Alan Jackson’s ‘Where I Come From’ concert deemed huge success

BY KATHERINE FUTCH news@newnan.com

n Saturday, June 26, Alan Jackson returned to Newnan, his childhood hometown. He, alongside seven other artists, played at the “Where I Come From” Tornado Benefit Relief Concert. The event had approximately 20,000 attendees. It was also livestreamed to create widespread awareness for the devastation caused by the EF-4 tornado in late March. Several vendors were also present at the event and provided drinks, food, and merchandise for the attendees. They donated their proceeds to the rebuilding of Newnan. Among the 20,000 attendees was Denise Ledford, a victim of the Newnan EF-4 tornado. The high-speed winds sent several trees through her home. “The fact that Alan Jackson hasn’t forgotten about his hometown despite his success is inspiring to me,” Ledford said. “It is a great thing that he came back and is doing this.” The community of Newnan

CONCERT FROM PAGE 1 son, lost his entire home to the tornado. It was a devastating loss for him and his family – it was a family home for more than 50 years. But instead of focusing on their misfortune, Jackson remained positive. “The aftermath was a lot of trees and a lot of messed up homes and a lot of displaced people,” he said. “But it was also a lot of these people showing up on the streets of Newnan saying, ‘what can I do.’ We were a part of a miracle that happened in this community: we all came out all right.” The performers were also passionate about the cause. Corbette Jackson, one of the opening artists, is originally from Newnan. One of the songs he performed, ‘Newnan Nights,’ thanked the people of Newnan. Another performer, Jared Ames, is a friend of Alan Jackson’s. He sings at Alan

Jackson’s bar in downtown Nashville. In between songs, Ames thanked the audience for being there. “It is great to be down here. Thank you all for coming out and supporting such a good cause.” Adam Wright, Alan Jackson’s nephew, also sang at the concert. He, like Jackson, grew up in Newnan. Despite living in Nashville for the past several years, he still considers Newnan to be his home. The storm devastated him, and he was thankful to be able to help support a good cause. “I hardly recognize the place after the storm came through,” said Wright. “I wanted to help put some roofs back on some houses and some food back on some tables.” Then came the moment 20,000 people were waiting for. Jackson made his show-stopping appearance. He said performing in his hometown was very special to him, especially since he was raising money for the rebuilding. “All of our childhood and young adult memories come from this area,” said Jackson. “We were so heartbroken when we saw what that tornado did.” Jackson continued, thanking the peo-

We appreciate all of you people that took your time to dedicate and volunteer,” he said. “Most of all, we appreciate all of you who have come out here tonight to help all those folks in need.” In the middle of Jackson’s set, Cornerstone Building Brands donated

$100,000 to the Coweta Community Foundation. Southtowne Chevrolet, the title sponsor of the event, also donated $105,000 to the foundation. These funds will go towards the rebuilding of Newnan. While the total profit is still under calculation, Jackson said that he suspected over $2 million was raised from the “Where I Come From” concert.

You must start declaring God’s goodness in your life. That is how God says we’re going to be blessed – when we start declaring His goodness. Learn to speak blessings over your life, your friends, your future. Remember, a blessing is not a blessing until it is spoken. If you’ll do your part and start boldly speaking blessings over your life and the lives of those around you, God will provide everything you need to live the life of abundance He wants you to have. He who pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor...He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity. Proverbs 21:21, 23
