Summer Redneck Games East Dublin

This year’s edition of Redneck Games is set for Saturday, July 10 in East Dublin, Ga. What started in 1996 as a goofy way to raise money for charity has evolved into a nationwide phenomenon. Jokes that rednecks were going to host the ‘96 Olympic Games in Atlanta led to a group of volunteers putting together a ridiculous schedule of “Redneck Games” that same summer for locals to compete in. They expected 500 to show up, but got 5,000 and the rest is history. The events include the Hubcap Hurl, Bobbin’ for Pigs Feet and Redneck Horseshoes (toilet seats). The Games take place in Buckeye Park in East Dublin. Admission is free, parking is $5. Call 478-272-5546 or visit www. summerredneckgames.com

And after completing the float, enjoy an afternoon of music, food and fun for the entire family at the Powers Island festivities. Park your vehicle at MEAG Power at 1470 Riveredge Pkwy. in Sandy Springs, which is located near Powers Island, and catch the free shuttle to Morgan Falls Dam to begin your river journey. The $3 entrance fee will be waived. Call 678-538-1200 or visit www.visitsandysprings.org
