NEWNAN THEATRE COMPANY Located at 24 First Avenue, Newnan Theatre Company (NTC) offers summer programs for kids of all ages. (See ad on page 31)
KidsCamp 2019 invites children entering 1st through 5th grades to design and build sets, write skits, create characters and put on a show. Campers work with theatre professionals, teachers and college theatre students during Drama Boot Camp, Monday–Friday, culminating with a Friday afternoon showcase demonstration. A half-day option is available for children entering kindergarten. Cost includes a KidsCamp water bottle and T-shirt. Half-Day KidsCamp is held 9 a.m.–12:30 p.m. with a light snack provided and costs $175 per child per week; $25 off for siblings. Full-Day KidsCamp is held 9 a.m.–5 p.m. with morning and afternoon snacks provided and costs $275 per child per week; $25 off for siblings. Costumes, props and make-up are provided. Each week, there’s a new theme: 1. WEEK ONE: June 10–14, Ancient Egypt 2. WEEK TWO: June 17–21, Wondrous Wizards 3. WEEK THREE: June 24–28, Everything is Awesome

NTC Backstage 2019 is for students entering or currently in grades 6 through 8. The two-week
course takes campers through the ins and outs of stage production with intensive education in various aspects of theatre, including script writing, stage management, set building, operating lights and sound, and more. Cost of camp includes a Backstage water bottle, T-shirt, and certificate of completion. Workshops are held 9 a.m.–5 p.m. with morning and afternoon snacks provided. Cost is $350 per child per session; $25 off for siblings (includes those attending KidsCamp). This summer’s workshop themes are:

Musical Theatre Camp: Campers combine musical and artistic talents while increasing their performance experience. Disney’s The Jungle Book Kids invites rising 4th–6th grade students for camp June 17–21. Theatre Camp for middle school students, those rising to grades 6–9, focuses on Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jr., and is scheduled for June 24–28. The camps run Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m.–5:45 p.m., ending with a complimentary performance for family and friends at 5 p.m. on Friday. Cost is $200 per camp. BACKSTREET COMMUNITY ARTS In downtown Newnan, Backstreet Arts offers free studio time to provide a creative environment for adults who may benefit from the healing powers of art and community. Located at 19-B First Avenue, Backstreet believes that “art saves lives.” The studio welcomes everyone but particularly reaches out to veterans, at-risk teenagers, disabled adults, low-income individuals, and those who have experienced trauma, illness or grief to practice art in a comfortable, non-intimidating atmosphere. Backstreet Community Arts
Located at 1741C Newnan Crossing Blvd., Bubbles and Brushes invites children and adults to play with paint and craft supplies to create masterpieces. The family art studio provides a stress-free environment to get messy and creative without the cleanup. Become a member and get free or discounted admission to certain programs. Summer camps for kids in kindergarten to age 12 involve painting, drawing, mixed media and ceramic projects that are fired in the studio’s kiln. SUMMER CAMPS AT CHILDRENCONNECT CHILDREN’S MUSEUM, NEWNAN
Located at 30 Temple Avenue, ChildrenConnect Museum is a creativity workshop for children and families. Each month, a new topic is explored through activities that engage curiosity and spark creativity by encouraging children to engineer, build, develop and refine their own projects. Kids share their projects as temporary exhibits in the museum. This year’s camps include:
Session 1, June 3–7, Safety City – For ages 4 to 6, this camp features a different safety topic each day. Students are introduced to a representative from Newnan City Police, Newnan Fire Department, Georgia Poison Control and Newnan Utilities. Topics include water, fire, electrical, poison, bicycle, pedestrian and playground safety. Graduation on the last day of camp begins at 11 a.m. This half-day camp, 9–11 a.m., costs $35.
Session 2, June 10–14, Thinking and Creating Outside the Toy Box – For ages 6 and up, this camp
brings children’s imagination to life with challenges and idea building followed by each child constructing toys/ hobbies that are uniquely their own. With a 2-to-1 ratio, each child will have plenty of help and encouragement as they learn to think outside the toy box. This full-day camp, 9 a.m.–4 p.m., costs $240.
Session 3, June 17–21, Beading and Crafting Camp – Young artists ages 4 and up will explore a
variety of art to foster creative expression, fun and great-looking projects through painting, jewelry making, cutting, drawing and assembling craft pieces. The halfday camp, 9 a.m.–12 noon, costs $125.
Session 4, June 24–28, LEGO® EV3 ROBOTICS –
Children ages 6 and up combine LEGO® EV3 ROBOTICS with the Sphero Bolt robotic ball to enable robotic movements while learning the basics of coding, programming, problem-solving, collaboration and fine motor skills. The half-day camp, 9 a.m.–12 noon, costs $175 and the full-day camp, 9 a.m.–4 p.m., costs $240.
Session 5. July 8–12, Do-Re-Mi Art Camp – For ages
5 and up, the camp uses visual art, music and literature as inspiration for lessons that excite creativity while making connections between art and music. Campers explore classic musicals, jazz (American and Latin), classical and rock & roll music. They use a variety of art supplies and techniques to explore concepts including color theory, movement and rhythm, symmetry and proportion. The half-day camp, 9 a.m.–noon, costs $125.00 and the fullday camp, 9 a.m.–4 p.m., costs $240.
Session 6, July 15–19, Super Taster Food Science and Package Design Camp – For children ages 6 and up, the Food Science camp features hands-on sensory experiments and development of food products from

STONEBRIDGE DAY CAMP AT NEWNAN CROSSING AND BAILEY STATION StoneBridge’s STEAM 2019 Summer Camp is filled with fun, age-appropriate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) activities to keep children happy and busy all summer. The fun includes in-house field trips, onsite presentations from High Tech and a performance by the Atlanta Drum Academy, as well as the Reptile Guy and Fabulous Fitness Fridays. THE BEDFORD SCHOOL’S SQUIRREL HOLLOW CAMP
An accredited private school in Fairburn, The Bedford School reaches children with specific learning disabilities and ADD/ADHD. NEWNAN JULY 4TH PARADE AND FESTIVITIES Celebrate Independence Day during the Fourth of July Parade on Thursday, July 4. The Parade begins at Veterans Memorial Park (Temple Avenue Park) at 9 a.m. and winds down at Greenville Street Park between 9:30 and 10 a.m. Main Street Newnan asks the community to meet at Veterans Memorial Park by 8:30 a.m. There's no cost to participate and registration is not necessary unless a motorized vehicle is being used to pull a float. All registration forms should be submitted to Main Street Newnan one week before the parade. The Newnan Rotary Club will host Fourth of July festivities at Drake Stadium starting at 5:30 p.m. on July 4. Admission is free and concessions will be available for purchase at 6 p.m. The event includes musical entertainment, children's attractions, fun and fireworks until dark. The annual 4th of July BBQ in Moreland has been going strong since 1947. YMCA CAMPS, NEWNAN Summit Family YMCA offers traditional summer day camp each week this summer for children ages 5–12. Camp activities focus on four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. CHATTAHOOCHEE BEND STATE PARK, COWETA COUNTY Chattahoochee Bend State Park encompasses nearly 3,000 acres along the Chattahoochee River with an extensive network of hiking trails and mountainbiking trails. The park features two developed campgrounds and several platform tent sites along the river. A day-use area has well-shaded picnic tables and a boat ramp, playground and picnic pavilions. Bicycle and canoe rentals are available. In early summer, thousands of blueberries planted at the park’s visitor center are ripe for the picking. Fishing is free for city residents with a Georgia fishing license; out-of-towners may purchase a permit from city hall for $10 a day or $40 for the year. BROWN’S MILL BATTLEFIELD HISTORIC SITE, NEWNAN The Brown’s Mill Battlefield Historic Site is a 100-acre park on the site of the 1864 Battle of Brown’s Mill.
