The ability to create a one-of-a-kind product is one of the calling cards of any successful brewery. With a multitude of recipes and varieties, a small microbrewery can make a name for itself when it can provide the consumer with an unforgettable drinking experience. But once a successful recipe has been established, ensuring its consistency is paramount. Abide Brewing Company is Newnan’s first brewery. It is currently in the home

stretch before officially opening for business. Thanks to some neighborly help, the task of ensuring consistency just got a little easier. After reading an article about the new brewery, members from The Yokogawa Corporation of America reached out to the owners of Abide. Their goal: To manufacture Yokogawa’s first in the world brewery automation and control system. As the senior applications manager for Yokogawa, Chris Burns saw the potential

Community leaders recently got a first look at Newnan’s inpatient rehabilitation facility at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital. The latest addition to the growing health care community in Newnan adds to the city’s reputation as a central health care location. HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital gave the more than 200 people in attendance, including Newnan Mayor Keith Brady and Piedmont Newnan Hospital CEO Mike Robertson, a tour of the state-of-the-art, 50-bed facility. Following tours, the crowd convened in the hospital’s rehabilitation gym, where snacks and light refreshments were served during commemoration speeches and the official ribbon-cutting ceremony. Newnan HealthSouth Hospital CEO Ilona Wozniak opened the ceremony, followed by Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce President Candice Boothby. HealthSouth officially began accepting patients on Dec. 2. The average stay in the rehabilitation facility is 14 days, and the facility has already seen as many as 32 patients. Physical and occupational therapists Ryan Morton and Gary Baker say that the gym is where patients spend much of their time, often working through up to three hours of physical therapy a day. Baker says HealthSouth is often for patients who’ve had strokes or orthopedic injuries and need to regain mobility and independence.

HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Newnan held its grand opening on Jan. 7.

“We have a team approach,” Baker said. “So there’s continuity and a good rapport. Patients see and work with the same people everyday.” HealthSouth began considering Newnan four years ago, according to Tarr, who was named executive vice president of HealthSouth in 2007. HealthSouth was denied twice for Georgia Certificate of Need, but Tarr and Brady both noted HealthSouth’s perseverance to build a rehab hospital in Newnan. “Our community rallied. That support led to the appeal and approval of HealthSouth coming to Newnan,” Brady said. Ground broke for the hospital on March 27, and by Dec. 2, the facility was taking its first patient. “We’re very excited to be here in Newnan.
