A 2015 graduate of East Coweta High School and the Central Educational Center (CEC) recently created a new truck wrap logo for the Newnan Police Department’s new community resource officer program. “I talked to [School Superintendent] Dr. Barker about the project and wanted someone to do it with a fresh outlook and younger perspective,” said Newnan Police Ch ief Douglas “Buster ” Meadows. The Newnan Police Department (NPD) purchased a new pickup truck for the Community Resource Officer (CRO) program and wanted it to have a softer touch with the community than a police car. “It’s a police vehicle, but I wanted it to seem more approachable,” Meadows said. From there, Natalie Hynson, the graphic communications teacher at CEC asked her senior student Hannah Nichols about doing the project for the police department. Nichols had done other design work before, like business cards and logos, but nothing on this scale. “I originally thought it

When she found out what it was, she asked, “What exactly is a car wrap?” Once she determined what she needed to do, Nichols implemented what she had learned in her classes and began taking her idea for the truck and simplifying it until she could not simplify it any more. Two main tenants of the new CRO program are communication and building relationships. Nichols and Newnan’s CRO Edward Lee wanted to incorporate both of them into the design.

To i mplement com munication and trust, Nichols chose to have two arms, coming together to shake hands. One is a police officer’s arm, and the other is a community member. She also put a bridge decal on the back window of the truck. The bridge design is based on Newnan’s Salbide Avenue bridge. She felt it showed people communicating, blending and coming together. “We’re trying to do things with community,” said CRO Lee. “We want to build this
