Heritage Honors 2018
Dear Seniors, It is only fitting that I write this letter to you as I sit in the new administration building watching you participate in your final Jubilee. I have heard you and your classmates talk about many of the “lasts” you have experienced this year—the last time you played football under the stadium lights, the last time you competed with your teammates for a region volleyball championship, the last time you will be a “big” to a “little” at Halloween, or the last time you searched for the elusive golden egg. Lasts can be hard, but they can also be powerful reminders of all the wonderful experiences you have had here that have molded you into who you are today. I hope you treasure all the lasts your life brings. It is bittersweet to watch you go. Some of you have been here since you were three years of age. Many here remember a lot of your “firsts”—the first time you learned how to swing all by yourself, the first time you were able to speak on stage without trembling, the first time you spent the night in a covered wagon, the first time you went on an interim trip, the first time you got all dressed up for prom, and the first time you received a college acceptance letter. Firsts can be exhilarating but also a little scary at times. I hope you have a life full of many more firsts. As you celebrate your commencement today with your family and friends, I want to remind you that the word “commencement” means a beginning or a start. So, with all the firsts and lasts you already have in your rich history here at Heritage, you now start a new journey. My wish for you is that this journey is filled with thrilling firsts and the most memorable, meaningful lasts. We look forward to hearing all about your new adventures in the months and years to come. And remember, you will always have a home here in The Grove. Sincerely,
Mrs. Skelly Head of School
