Streusel Topping

Mix together brown sugar, oats, flour and cinnamon until evenly combined. With fingertips, blend in butter pieces until small clumps form and butter is well incorporated, about 2 minutes. Sprinkle topping evenly over fruit and place back in oven uncovered. Bake until streusel is lightly browned and fruit is tender, about 30 minutes. Remove from oven and let set 5 minutes before serving.

The Newnan Times-Herald has launched its new, improved website. The site is at the same location – http://times-herald.com – but has some new features, faster speed and more improvements coming. “There’s a lot going on ‘under the hood’ that makes for a faster experience reading it – especially from a mobile device,” said Jonathan Melville, the newspaper’s IT coordinator. Initial discussions about the new website began about a year ago, as the newspaper staff began planning for this year’s 150th birthday celebration for the newspaper. Melville said he has been working steadily on the new site for about four months. “It was a pretty big undertaking for

a small paper,” Melville said. Melville said more and more readers are accessing the newspaper using cell phones. Determining “the best way to display information for our readers” was a big part of the planning process, he said. In many ways, the new site is like the old one. “The goal wasn’t to do a radical redesign. It was to take the best parts and keep them and to improve the parts that could use some improvement,” Melville said. “This is a top-notch website and is much more user-friendly for those on smartphones or tablets,” said Publisher John A. Winters. “Jonathan and the newsroom have done a great job getting this site ready to launch.” There are some features that will be added soon – including a search function and a way for readers to access Associated Press stories.

Local Kasheva Hill is said to have “a heart for teens in need,” and for the past two years, Hill has been working from within Coweta to satisfy her heart’s desire. The Newnan resident founded New Beginnings, a licensed nonprofit organization dedicated to helping pre-teens and teenagers in need build a stable foundation as they transition into adulthood. Hill pursued Criminal Justice throughout her college career, and had planned to serve her community. It wasn’t long after finding employment in public safety, however, that Hill found herself unfulfilled and sympathetic to the repeat juvenile offenders and troubled teens she so often came across.

Hill began to help several of the youth, assisting them with obtaining work permits and advising them on job openings. “I simply wanted to help,” Hill said. “I felt called to lead these young people in a new direction, and to set them up for success.” It was a local Juvenile Court judge who gave Hill the encouragement she needed. “It was Judge [Joseph] Wyant that finally convinced me I could really make a difference,” Hill said. New Beginnings provides an abundance of resources to community teens, including spiritual guidance, food, clothing and hygiene products, shelter and school supplies. In addition, the nonprofit works directly
