Indulging FAMILY FEATURES
T
he hustle and bustle of the holiday season – from office parties to family gatherings – often leads to over-indulging and deviating from a healthy lifestyle; luckily, it’s still possible to enjoy many of your favorite holiday dishes while reducing carb and sugar intake. And the numbers don’t lie – numerous studies show that low-carb eating can be a healthy lifestyle option for people who want to lose or maintain their weight. When you control your carbohydrate intake, you start burning stored fat as your fuel source instead of carbohydrates. Low-carb eating results in more effective weight loss and better
health markers, such as a decrease in your risk of heart disease and diabetes. Plus, a low-carb lifestyle, such as Atkins, can be customized to your individual needs to help you lose weight and keep it off. In fact, with the wide variety of foods to choose from in a lowcarb lifestyle, it’s easy to find plenty of the festive foods and recipes you like so you can skip the stress this holiday season and simply focus on celebrating. These recipes – favorites of actress Alyssa Milano, who started her own journey on the Atkins program – show how easy it is to make and enjoy low-carb dishes packed with flavor. Find more low-carb recipes to share this holiday season at atkins.com.

Wickstrom takes shot at building on Vikings’ wrestling tradition
By DONNELL SUGGS The Newnan Times-Herald The blaring screech of the whistle hanging from Chris Wickstrom’s neck is the obvious giveaway of a man in charge. But by stature, Northgate High’s firstyear head wrestling coach still looks like he can get out on the mats in the Vikings’ wrestling room. While not new to coaching, Wickstrom is getting his first chance at leading a program of his own after spending time in the Columbus area, including the past two seasons at Harris County. He hopes to take hold of the reins of a program that has made giant wrestling roots in Coweta County through the program’s first head coach Adrian Anderson, who retired after the 2012-13 season, which closed with Tyler Askey winning the last of four individual state titles at the school. “You can’t escape the tradition,” said Wickstrom after practice recently. “It makes me feel good that there’s a great wrestling tradition here at Northgate.” Wickstrom has big expectations to meet and isn’t shying away from them.

Can-A-Thon collects over 210,000 items By SARAH FAY CAMPBELL sarah@newnan.com
The 32nd annual Coweta Can-A-Thon raised over 210,000 in food items and cash equivalent. The food – and money – goes to the Coweta Community Food Pantry, which feeds needy Cowetans all year long. The total is down slightly from last year, said Carolyn Harrison, Can-A-Thon committee chairwoman for the Newnan Junior Service League, which puts on the annual event. Last year, the total was around 215,000. This year, there were actually 10,000 more food items collected, but monetary donations, which are calculated at three cans per
