Ow ners Joh n a nd Lisa Shaak, who purchased the building over 10 years ago, are Coweta business professionals. The building was previously used as a church and has been the headquarters of an international company. The new 7,000 squarefeet Coweta co -work i ng space will have a modern look with brick walls, glass office walls, natural light and partial concrete floors.

Amenities will include a receptionist, mailboxes, coffee and a training room and copy services among others.

Professionals will be able to drop in for a day, have a designated work space or a private office space.

“Co-work i ng is h ip a ll over the world,” John said.

“After doing much research and visiting other co-working spaces, we decided to do it here.”

Lisa said the space will be a community of business people.

“Our motto is to create, connect and collaborate,” Lisa said. “It will be a great place to be creative. We want to build a community.

Some of the office spaces may seem small, but some can accommodate between two and four people. This is for anyone who is any age who embraces the new way of doing business.”

The business owners said they hope to have the new profession a l space open within the next 30 days.

“I believe that there exists a need for sma ll, sha red spaces that make data-rich services, meeting spaces and copying services avail-

able to local entrepreneurs,” Craver said. “The project w i l l prov ide work-fromhome professionals, independent contractors and frequent travelers with a social gathering space that concurrently allows for independent working. My hope is that the project supports

and incubates the great creative and entrepreneurial community in Newnan.”

Jon at h a n Melv i l le, a local web developer, has been telecommuting since January.

“I a m usua lly work i ng for agencies that design a website and I will take that

design and write the code that makes it work,” said Melville.

Melville said he did not realize how important it was to have contact with other human beings until he began working from home and was alone most of the work day, so he decided to

work outside of his home.

“I missed the experience of co-workers,” Melv i lle said. “I like the feeling of being able to get out of the house and change the mindset of separating work from home.”

Melv i l le has a off ice space, but said that busi-

ness professionals like himself will appreciate the new space.

He’s still there. When the 49ers played the Green Bay Packers on August 26, 2016, Colin was so happy on the bench he didn’t bother to stand up during the National Anthem.

Public outrage ensued, but Kaepernick didn’t back down. “I am not going to st a nd up to show pr ide in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” he said.

I don’t like what Kaepernick did, but millions of Americans have died to protect his right to protest his nation, his team, gluten intolerance, Donald Trump, Disney World and anything else he f inds oppressive. God bless them all.

It’s worth noting that Kaepernick was not so oppressed by his paycheck that he felt moved to donate his massive salary to the poor to protest income inequality.

This whole episode shouldn’t be a surprise. Kaepernick’s act wasn’t so much a protest as a reflection of a modern culture which shuns God but worships victims and victimhood. If “real” victims aren’t handy, new classes of victims are created. For example…

The only organized college protest I remember was led by some girls who bravely battled male oppression by shedding their brassieres. The blouses stayed on, but the “freedom march” was supported by every guy on campus.

Oppression has always been with us. But even if you’re a highly-paid NFL quarterback like Colin Kaepernick, nothing is more oppressive than ignorance.

When Colin’s NFL career is over and he looks for a real job, he may wish his university had spent less time preaching oppression and more time teaching self-reliance and common sense.

I can’t decide if stories like this make me nauseous or jealous. The only time I ever felt oppressed was in high school, when my mother wouldn’t let me grow my hair out like the Beatles. When I got to college I celebrated my liberation by resisting everything but temptation. Don’t ask how that turned out.

“It is truly a crisis,” said Bobby Cagle, director of Georgia’s Department of Family and Children’s services.

The issue isn’t fi n d i n g p e o p l e willing to be foster parents.

“We’re not failing to recruit foster parents. We’re failing to keep foster parents,” Cagle said Tuesday.

Cagle, who has been state director for two years, is in Coweta this week a s pa r t of his office’s “blueprint for change” roadshow.

Department officials are traveling all over the state holding meetings for the public as well as meetings with foster parents, local department staff, judges and law enforcement.

Coming of age “Morris from America” is for parents

A coming of age film about an American father and his 13-year- old son living in Germany, “Morris from America” is certainly a different take on the subject matter. It’s not for 13 year olds given certain mature elements (drug use and sexuality), but, this is a good film for folks raising 13-year-olds.

Curtis can’t bring himself to remove his wedding band. His wife may have passed away, but Curtis (Craig Robinson) still holds onto his loving memory of her. And every day he’s reminded how wonderful she was as he raises their son Morris (Markees Christmas). Being a parent is hard enough, but having to do it alone, while living in Germany certainly complicates things.

Curtis is determined to impart upon the boy his life experiences. And this means giving Morris freedom to evolve.

A fish out of water drama, “Morris from America” makes for really unique viewing.

The perspective is unlike films we’ve seen

Overly Familiar “Morgan” Fails to Startle

“Complete Unknown” is Actors Showcase

thriller with science fiction and horror elements, “Morgan” just can’t achieve the lofty arthouse heights of last year’s excellent Alex Garland film “Ex Machina.” And that’s a real pity, “Morgan” sports a cast of incredibly talented and recognized faces including Paul Giamatti, Toby Jones, and Rose Leslie (of HBO’s “Game of Thrones”).

But unfortunately, the fine actors are given little to do. Giamatti does get to chew the scenery in one tense scene, but the rest of the cast only participate in dull expositions—often round table type discussions. It’s as if the budget influenced the narrative and the bulk of the cast only worked a day here and there limiting what could be done with them.

Appearing once again bruised and beaten and this time adorned with an eyepatch is Jennifer Jason Leigh, who took quite a beating last year in Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight” on her way to an Oscar nomination. She is sadly underused.

I wanted to see more of her, which was really frustrating. Something more meaningful should have been done with this level of talent.

Elegantly lensed and oozing with unwarranted self-importance, “Morgan” attempts to be clever by surprising us with unexpected violence and plot twists. But instead of being startling, it ultimately feels overly familiar falling into old tropes (like fist fights and jump scares) that exploit the cast to attract the horror market often seen on VOD or television. This makes “Morgan” a wasted opportunity.

With a killer cast and a producing team that has been responsible for some of the biggest and most important science fiction films in history, “Morgan” marks the feature debut of Luke Scott, director Ridley Scott’s son. And while the film does have visual flair that will remind viewers of the Scott’s father’s work, the narrative fails to elevate above routine horror/thriller material.

In “Morgan,” a corporate risk management consultant named Lee Weathers (Kate Mara) is sent to an isolated research facility to investigate and assess the potential dangers of an artificially created being. Grown in a hidden lab, scientists have brought to life Morgan, a translucent skinned creature that resembles a teenish girl. Morgan grew at an alarming rate, but her level of maturation lagged. It sure didn’t help that the eclectic team of doctors are socially stunted themselves transferring their neuroses onto their creation.

And because Morgan brutally attacked a member of the research team, it is up to Weathers to decide if shutting the project down is in corporate’s best interest. This means that Morgan’s existence might have to be terminated.

In an early conversation with Dr. Lui Cheng (Michelle Yeoh), Weathers acknowledges that this is not the first time this experiment has been attempted. And the last time things did not turn out well. One imagines in that circumstance the artificially created being also turned on it’s creators.

having the characters deal with issues of race and youth in a foreign setting. Robinson (“The Office” and great on TV’s “Mr. Robot”) is terrific as the father struggling with his loss and finding the right balance as a parent. And Robinson’s work with Christmas is very special making you believe their relationship is genuine.

A small drama about meaningful issues, “Morris from America” is worth visiting.

She used to be Jenny, but now, she’s Alice.

Tomorrow, she might be someone else.

“Complete Unknown” is a tiny drama from director Joshua Marston, who burst onto the scene with his Sundance darling “Maria Full of Grace” back in 2004. Based on his work mostly in television since that time, he’s honed his skills and made connections. It appears that he likely traded on those connections to assemble an impressive cast for such a small narrative that might be better suited for the stage.

Taking place largely over the course of one evening, we meet Tom (Michael Shannon) and his beautiful wife Ramina (Azita Ghanizada) as they prepare to celebrate Tom’s birthday. Tom has an odd job that he vaguely describes as “writing emails.”

And complicating their relationship, Ramina will soon leave town to study the art of jewelry making. The open question is whether Tom will go with her. But the birthday party gets confusing when Alice (Rachel Weisz) shows up as Tom’s friend’s date. You see, years ago, Alice wasn’t Alice and Tom knew her as Jenny.

Incremental and challenging, “Complete Unknown” is fascinating early on. Toying

around with the idea of leaving one’s present life behind and creating a completely new identity, the movie succeeds despite its mundane limitations. It is ultimately a movie that will maintain interest based on seeing great actors inhabit authentic characters.

Do you like the life you have? Can you throw that life away and start a new one?

“Complete Unknown” suggests that starting fresh isn’t always the right answer.
