Walking Dead execs tour new local playground By SARAH FAY CAMPBELL sarah@newnan.com One of the top executives at AMC Studios – the division of AMC Networks that produces original shows, including “The Walking Dead,” was at Senoia’s Seavy Street Park Monday to see the improvements that were made possible in part by a donation from the television giant. Stefan Reinhardt is the co-head of AMC
Studios. Also on hand were Walking Dead executive producers Tom Luse and co-producer Amy Beth Barnes. Last year, the studio donated $150,000 to the park project, in thanks for the community’s cooperation with years of filming, which can sometimes inconvenience residents. In October, location manager Mike Riley told the county that Luse had approached him about doing something for the city. Riley
met with City Manager Richard Ferry to see if there were any projects with which the studio could help. The city had big plans for the playground upgrades at the park, but not quite enough money for them. The city had budgeted $350,000 for the project, and the bids came back at $465,000. The city could afford infrastructure upgrades, but no new playground equipment. And because of liability concerns,

the city would have to take out some old steel play structures, including the popular – but dangerous – merry-go-round/roundabout. With the donation from AMC, the city was able to complete the upgrades, and add some new equipment. The Senoia Optimist Club donated money for new swings. “Senoia is a special place,” said Reinhardt.
