‘Twang Shebang’ returns to Alamo By MAGGIE BOWERS maggie@newnan.com The Alamo recently played host to a country music event that is quickly becoming a favorite amongst residents and friends. Despite varying tastes in music throughout the city, crowds of locals gathered for the secondannual Twang Shebang, a country music-i nspi red showcase, held Saturday night in the downtown restaurant and bar. Performances included local artists ranging from novice musicians to well-known entertainers – all playing to benefit a good cause, a Newnan-based community outreach organization, Bridging the Gap. More specifically, the $1,000 profit generated from the recent music event will go toward “Christmas in Coweta,” a program offered by the

nonprofit that assists in providing gifts for underprivileged children throughout the county. “‘Christmas in Coweta’ helps families who may not be able to afford presents for their children and teens,” explained event organizer Kris Youmans. Youmans, the lead vocalist and guitarist for the Kris Youmans band, not only established the event which was held for the first time in 2015, but performed with her band during the showcase. “The program had already reached the maximum number of children it was able to help for 2016,” Youmans explained. “So our band decided to host this event to help out.” Alison Wallace, Bridging the Gap executive director, addressed crowds before the event on Saturday, noting that there were more than 200 children placed on a waiting list to

receive gifts this year. Wa l l a c e h a s s a i d t h a t t h e program is not simply about local kids receiving toys, but also allows for a lasting relationship between t he outreach orga n i zation a nd community members in need. Wallace noted that her own family is a musical bunch. She and her husband Kevin met in Nashville, where they were both professionally writing and performing country music. Though Wallace herself did not perform Saturday, as she had during the fundraising concert’s debut, several local musicians did take the stage to perform old and new country music hits. “The Newnan music community is amazing in that they give of their time and talents without hesitation when needed,” said Youmans.
