If punters trusted themselves to back winners on the field, so did Fashion in the Field entrants who also hoped to win big at the recent Lindauer Ladies’ Race Day held at Pukekohe Park. Once again, the weather shone as did the fashionistas and, as usual, it was the bubbles, the food and the company as well as the glamorous fashions and the racing which ensured another successful and effervescent event. SOUTH photographer Wayne Martin focused on some of the ‘stars’.

IN THE WARS
Born into confl ict in Afghanistan and raised in refugee camps in Pakistan, Arian has been on the front lines his entire life. As this memoir reveals, after contracting a deadly disease and ‘experiencing the power of medicine’, he decided to dedicate his life to healing others. An inspiring book, In the Wars provides great insight into challenges most of us will never need to face and proves triumph is often born of adversity.
WOMEN & MONEY – MASTERING THE STRUGGLE
Money may make the world go around but, if this is a man’s world, women need to be on song particularly with it in order to become fi nancially independent. A comprehensive guide to making the most money and, perhaps more importantly, making the most of money, this book is intended to help those seeking fi nancial wellbeing.
KNOCK KNOCK
When opportunity knocks, it’s wise to answer, but many of us are less than thrilled to see someone clutching a clipboard on our doorsteps. For more than 20 years, Trish Palmer was an interviewer and area manager for market research companies. As this witty book reveals, her encounters have been heartbreaking, wonderful and weird too, involving everything from bare bottoms, angry cats and foulmouthed parrots, to the well-to-do and some who are barely managing to get by.
