New Windsor Community Day celebrates its 10th anniversary By Matt Veronesi and Patrick Mangan The saying that we hear from a lot of people is “New Windsor Community Day is not your average Community Day! Our first Community Day took place on Saturday September 26th, 2009. It was a successful event with 2,500 people attending. We had 30 vendors including two food vendors, a couple of bounce houses, one band playing live music that performed on the back of a flatbed tow truck where the drummer actually tumbled off the back of. Luckily he was not hurt. We finished the night with fireworks and everyone had a great time. We were very happy with the first event but decided that day that we wanted to grow it and make it better

every year. We had many new different attractions over the years to keep the growth happening such as professional wrestling, two live entertainment stages, a zip line, a stunt jump, a mechanical bull, an arcade trailer, a remote control race car track, a petting zoo, pony rides, a tethered hot air balloon ride, singers from popular TV shows such as American Idol (Tim Urban), X-Factor,(Nick Dean) and the Voice(Caitlin Caporale), a carousel, a mechanical swings ride, a climbing wall, tons of bounce houses, the Tumblebus, big slides, a magician, a clown, a juggler, super heroes and princesses, helicopter rides, parachute jumpers, a chance to win a new car, pie eating and cannoli eating contests, and a bigger and better fireworks show Continued on page 6

Continued from page 4 every year. Last year New Windsor Community Day took place on Saturday August 26th. We had over 40,000 people attend during the day which was an all-time record crowd. We had 200 vendors, 25 food vendors, a beer and wine tent, and amazing attractions. Some of the exciting new attractions last year were the Orphaned Wildlife “Bear Country” Exhibit where Community Day Patrons had the chance to walk through a big tractor trailer where they could get up close to watch live bears. It was a major hit with everyone loving it, and we had people come from as far away as Maine to see the bears. We also added the Kyle Busch M& M NASCAR where patrons could sit in and see under the hood of

Good Guys with big families! It must be a Texas thing By Matt Veronesi and Patrick Mangan Once again on Stage 1 this year we will have two performers coming all the way from the great State of Texas! Twenty-nine year-old Tim Urban will once again be our Master of Ceremonies on all day at Community Day and will perform two different times during the event as well. The other performer from the Lone Star State is heartthrob Shelton Taylor, 18, who returns for the second consecutive year. Besides being incredible singers another thing they have in common is that they both come from big Texas families. Tim Urban was born on May 1st 1989 to his parents David and Doris. Tim is one of ten children growing up in Duncanville Texas. He always tells

the story has his family only had on bathroom that they shared and they would have to have scheduled times for everyone to use the shower. Tim was on Season 9 of American Idol, in which he finished seventh out of 100,000 people who auditioned that year. That was Simon Cowell’s last season on the show and he was particularly hard on Tim. But Tim never ever let the criticism get him down, and his infectious smile went on to win the hearts of the judges. Ellen Degeneres was so moved by one performance that she ran on stage and gave Tim a big hug. We first met Tim when we booked him to perform in our Summer Concert Series in 2011 which was the summer after he was on American Idol. Tim was living in Los Angeles California at the time pursuing his singing and acting

career. We hit it off right away and he has been coming back to New Windsor every year to perform since. Tim Urban is one of the nicest most genuine people you will ever meet. And though he has been on television with millions of people watching him you would never know it by talking to him. We know that a lot of that is because of his amazing mother and father, and all of his brothers and sisters. Tim who his living back in his home state of Texas and is married to a wonderful woman named Kate and has two beautiful daughters Bella (3) and Nora (2), all who have made the trip to NY this year for New Windsor Community Day. born and raised in Bulverde, Texas, and his music career up to this point has taken him throughout the country over the past two years. As his fan base has grown to well beyond 100,000 followers, he has had the opportunity to sing and play shows all over the country;
including singing the National Anthem at the Staples Center in Los Angeles for both the LA Clippers and the Los Angeles Lakers professional basketball teams. He has also performed during the NBA Playoffs for both the San Antonio Spurs and the Utah Jazz on their home courts,

as well as at Major League Baseball and Professional Soccer games. We first met Shelton last year when we booked him to perform at New Windsor Community Day. He did an amazing job performing on stage and was wonderful signing autographs and taking pictures with everyone when his performance was over. We have stayed in touch with him since Community Day and are thrilled to have him come back again this year. Shelton like Tim Urban has an amazing mother and father, and extremely talented brothers and sisters who all have some artistic talents whether it be singing, dancing, photography etc. So whether it is the small town Texas family values or just the fact that we have been extremely blessed with two amazing performers who have come to New Windsor for New Windsor Community Day, who both are great people as well. Thank you to Tim Urban and Shelton Taylor’s parents who have done an amazing job raising their sons. You can see Tim Urban and Shelton Taylor on Stage One at New Windsor Community Day!
