Shoppers willbeableto park for freein Stafford andStone town centres on two key days in therun up to Christmas.

The freeparking offerfrom Stafford Borough Council aimstoencouragemore people to shop in town centres to boost tradefor local businesses overthe festive season.

Aspokesman forthe council said:“Parking charges have been waivedfor Stafford BoroughCouncil car parks from1pm Saturday (December11) andfrom the sametime thefollowing week (December18). “Thefreeparking period applies to all borough council run car parks in the town centres -exceptthe Riverside and Waterfront carparks in Stafford.”

Awinter wonderland is comingtothe centre of Stafford fromthe endof November into January of next year withice rink, live musicand Santa’s’ grottojust some of theattractions taking place in Victoria Park.

Councillor FrancesBeatty, CabinetMember for EconomicDevelopment and Planning,said: “These traditional freeparking afternoons have always provedpopularwith shoppers and retailers in the run up to Christmas Day. Andthis year we will have the added attractionofsomegreat entertainmentinour awardwinning Victoria Park –all themore reason to come to thecountytown. “We know that Stone is known far and wideasthe food and drink capital of the county andisalways an attractive place to carry out some shoppingthen relax withsomething to eatand drink.”

She added: “More than ever beforeour businesses need aboost after another verychallenging year for them andI hope people will support their local traders.”
