Timmy Wakefield ABOUT ME
Hello and welcome to my portfolio. The projects you will see in this publication are various projects completed academically and professionally throughout my career as a designer. An important aspect of graphic design is to communicate effectively through customer interaction. A graphic designer then molds their words into a visual communicator on their behalf. Proving myself to be a great communicator and unrelenting customer service sets me apart from the rest. Pas-

Work & Play A project always begins with a conversation. In simple, day-to-day conversations you can really understand a person’s train of thought and they see things. At work, just talking to a client goes a long way in customer service, standards, fortitude, and integrity. This is my formula for superior customer satisfaction. You can be the best designer in the world, but without the proper people skills, it’d be worth nothing. Combining interpersonal relations with dedication is truly the key to my success. It’s more than just work that sets me apart. It’s those communication skills that really make a customer happy. Side-projects are usually an artistic release. Establishing friendships has been one of the best ways to combine work and play. Various projects are a willful testament to not only customer service, but fantastic friendships.

02 PROJECT NAME EXPLOSIVE DECOMPRESSION CLIENT NAME JOHN L. SHEPPARD CATEGORY BOOK COVER
DESCRIPTION Utilizing high quality, public domain imagery, Mr. Sheppard, my boss at the time, was an author of many books. He often struggled with book cover creation. His technical skills were limited so he often hired someone to create his cover. I wanted to get my name out there so I designed his book cover in what he calls, “the perfect visual representation for his story.”

DESCRIPTION My friend’s wife contacted me after seeing my extensive portfolio and expressed interest in my services. She gave me free reign on the project as long as I could effectively communicate graphically, what here business speaks out to people through the name. Through many renditions, I came up with this logo for her clothing company. It contains a faded pastel color palette to fit in with the name.

04 PROJECT NAME BUILDING 1 CLIENT NAME US NAVY CATEGORY PHOTOGRAPHY
DESCRIPTION Early in the morning, I was out looking for the perfect sunrise photo of our famous building aboard Naval Station Great Lakes. I truly wanted to capture the majesty of its architecture with the beauty of the fall ambiance surrounding it. After initial trial and error, I was able to capture stunning color, texture, and excitement of the building 1. Double exposure is not an easy technique. It takes patience, skill, and numerous other aspects to bring these elements together. Clarity and sharpness needed to be a huge factor so adjusting the ISO and f-stop accordingly made this photo that much better. With more than 1,000,000 views on various social media accounts, this is my pride and joy.

DESCRIPTION The goal with this was to create an advertisment using digital illustration. I wanted to tackle photorealism to not only test my skills, but to make it look like it was nearly real. Combining illustrative skills, textures, highlights, and shading, I was able to create a piece that reflected my advertising project. The logo needed to represent the fictional company. I wanted an interesting font coupled with a wordmark. Together these elements brought interesting yet professional contrasting results. The rough text with the smooth logo design creates a solidarity between the elements. The end result was an interesting double truck ad that resembled the client, it’s styleguide policies, graphic representation.

In Summary WHERE THE CREATIVE BEGINS
In summary, visual communication is something I’m very passionate about because the rules can be bent and broken. My Navy training has taught me to adhere to strict rules while freelance jobs and academic studies have taught me that design is so much more. My passion stems from childhood interest. While I have much respect for mathematics and science, I find beauty in art. I find peace and serenity when I’m creating even under strict circumstances. Customer service is at the top list of my requirements. Even when difficult customers want something done their way, my job is to assist them with informative and educational feedback. It is important to keep them happy, maintain high standards, and show enthusiasm even when the project might lack these qualities. Working in public affairs for the Navy has taught me a lot about effective communication, but academically, it has taught me something so much more valueable; an educated person has the ability to persuade to get a project heading in the right direction. Using these abilities combined with education has made my work top-notch professionally and personally and I am thankful for my academic and professional achievements.
