Unintentionally attracted ork which was created by Anselm Kiefer, I decided the world of Neo-expressionism. On the other hand, n’s “Men in Skirts” triggered my interests and urces of my group of people.
Neo expressionism origins in Germany. The early image of neoexpressionism is also affected by Van Gogh and Art Brut. Comparing to expressionism, artists of neo-expressionism focus on their intensive emotion more than the traditional Realism and the proportion. On the other side, Art Burt affected them about using “original and rough concepts.

Trying to transfer the idea of changing 2D to 3D inspired by Georg Baselitz, I made some samples with calico by sewing lots of layers with different ways. The left sample suited the line strokes of my collages well and encouraged me to do more experiments.
People started to wear tunic dress since Egypt and ancient Greece. At that time, they did not recognize their outfits as “dress” because that was the way they dressed. If we check the time around 14 century, men did no less decoration and detail designs on their garments than women. Delicate embroidery, laces, fancy buttons and the volume of their “dress/skirts.” It is quite obvious that men used to dressed in a fancier way than modern men hundreds of years ago
According to my group of people, there are many straight lines and silhouettes from their skirts and dresses. I also tended to create the volume of the garments and keep the movement of the bodies.
To maintain the shape and support the volume, neoprene is the chosen basic fabric. However, the normal sewing machine cannot present the finishing in a plat and neat result without steaming. Because the basic fabric with hundreds of organza layers cannot be ironed. Therefore, I tried many different ways amd finally decided to use flat-seaming machine to solve the problem.
Considering the volume of inner side of sleeves and the body side part will squeeze together, different height of layers should be planned carefully.
