editorial Dear dolly friends and enthusiasts, It is with great excitement and pleasure that we deliver to you another issue of Tiny Feet. The chosen theme this time was “The Circus Parade” a small homage to Carnival and all things Circus related! It is often now that we see popping here and there customized dolls with Circus inpiration or seamstresses that dedicate their work to making related sundries. So why not have a number compiling some of these amazing dolls and works? And so here it is! Our invited featured artist was the one that made me do this, well not literally but her work inspires so many and for this theme we had to have her join, i told her that myself. We’re happy Celine accepted the challenge as did all our other contributors with their dedicated work and quality. Celine shows us some of

her custom work in progress images, talks about her work and inspirations, make sure you read her interview! After the success of our previous numbers i am confident enough to say this one is another excellent piece of work! With a great variety of Blythe doll customs, from exceptional artists. This time we bring another Blythe how to, a mask template and step by step instructions so anyone can make one, this was a sweet contribution from the talented Christy Bodily. There are Circus scenes, stunts, fabulous events and even a sideshow to glaze your eyes! As usual we all need to send out a big thank you to everyone involved in yet another issue. From all the contributors to the sponsors that kindly support the magazine! THANK YOU!* On a final note I would also like to announce our new website, this time with new features. welcome Today at the “Medianoche Theater” is being performed “Le Cirque des Curiosités” After traveling the world finally came into the small and hidden town “Le Cirque des Curiosités”. Just outside the county, in the meadow nearby of the recondite forest. They rehearsed and showed their extraordinary show, everything was strange and changing in this magnificent Circus.

the tale of

|

|

FEATURED ARTIST Celine is best known in the doll world as Citron Rouge, she is a French young lady that collects dolls for years and has lately been working on modifying BJDs in a very unique way... for this issue we had to have her featured as her work is itself an inspiration.

celine

CITRON ROUGE

Salut Celine! Thank you for accepting the challenge to be the featured artist on our 4th issue and for dedicating your time to bring us a little insight to your world. Tiny Feet (TF): Please tell us a bit about yourself and where you come from, and the kind of work you do? My name is Céline aka Jade. Citronrouge. I’m a 32 years old woman living in the south of France, between the sun and the sea. I have been working professionnaly as an illustrator and graphic designer since 10 years and personnally as a doll artist for only a very few years.

TF: Where do you find inspiration for your custom girls and photo-shoots? My inspiration comes from various domains. Some themes followed me since my childhood, others since my teenage years and others again since I was a young woman. I’m impassioned by mythologies, tales & legends, sirens, horror and erotic arts, BME (extreme body modifications) and natural human differences. I’m fond of cinema, too, and watch a lot of movies each week. But despite all these, my main inspiration is just the music. All the emotions i put in my creative works born though music, independently of different media. media. |

34

TF: What materials do you see yourself working with the most and why? I don’t have a preference. I appreciate working with both vinyl and resin. If sometimes these two can inspire me different things, i work exactly in the same way. No difference. I couldn’t work exclusively with only one of the two. I’d miss the second a lot. TF: When did you start collecting dolls? What was your fist one and how many do you have now? I’ve been collecting dolls for 7 or 8 years but have been giving them an artistic dimension for only 4 years. My first dolls were a Latte and a Raphia Pullip. I found these two girls very pretty but honestly absolutely had no idea what to do with them. I was curious to try changing their face up but with no real precise idea, just curiosity and hazardous discoveries. Only some years later with Blythe dolls, i was really inspired and decided trying to do something interesting (in my opinion obviously). I started with 60’s-like customizations and pics. And finally some years later again, i bought my first BJD and found this media quite perfect for some themes i loved for a very long time. Today, after a little over 1 year, i completely transform my dolls in a definitive and sculpture-like way. My current collection generally counts 4 or 5 dolls, no more because when I make the turn around I follow my way starting a new project. 35

|

|

TF: What do you like most creating a whole concept of a doll for yourself or an order for someone else?

TF: Tell us about the stories behind your dolls, how does everything start and how do you build a character?

Without hesitation, complete customization for my own projects. I’m always very glad by challenges people propose to me through the commissions but a full customization it’s just a big pleasure and work because you transform it completely and finally give it a soul. It’s a little caricatured but each finished project is kind of like a birth of a character and its universe and you’re the one who has done that. With full customization, a doll passes from being an object to being an imaginary person.

There’s absolutely no unique process in the creation. The project could start with an idea, a piece of music, a blank mold, an accessory etc...depending my current mood. And generally when i take my subject i start building the character step by step. In conclusion it’s a common way of work which could start with so many different things.

36

TF: What are your plans for future dolls? In short : always more and more sophisticated modifications with a lot of different materials. I’m not the kind of person who likes planning these creations. Spontaneity and fun ! TF: I had to choose you for the Circus theme as i think it is so related to your work, tell us about the dolls you prepared specially for our issue? The dolls are in fact conjoined twins called Anatie and Anatée. Two lovely, shy and clumsy girls. The other children really like them very much but often can’t stop laughing at them ‘cause their orthodontic head gears and harelips make them lisp. The little girls love candies and sugar sweeties but the most of the time, sugar gets stuck in their head gears. As they are really joyful twins, people see them as tiny clowns. But children stay children and they love to play anywhere and anyhow and undoubtedly being dirty. Unoa faceups by Celine 37

SUPPLIES NEEDED TO MAKE THE MASK: Print the mask template (on previous page) on a cardstock Scissors Tacky Glue A clip Eyelets An eyelet setter (I use a crop-a-dile) Braiding Cord/ String/ or Yarn Things to embellish your mask. (I use Acrylic paint and colored pencils) Gel Medium

2 Cut out the template. Decide what animal you would like your mask to be. Paint and embellish the mask to look like the animal you are wanting. Glue the center cut between the eyes together with tacky glue. Clip together until glue is dry.

3 Fold the two bottom cuts back making a point. Glue the side of the mask to the bottom cut tacky glue. Clip together until glue is dry. Repeat on other side. NOTE- If your animal has ears this is the time I cut out some ears, embellish them, and glue them to the top of the mask.

|

56

Brush gel medium on your mask to seal it. Let it dry.

4 Pierce a hole on each side of the mask for an eyelet. Set the eyelet in the hole. Push braiding cord through the eyelet and tie a knot on one end. Make sure the cord can not slip through the eyelet.
