baby it’thes third coldissueoutside Dear dolly friends and enthusiasts, It is with great happiness that we present you our third issue. An issue dedicated to winter, cold days, warm clothes and fluffy knits, an issue with the taste of Christmas! We were still enjoying the last days of summer when we started working on this number and the theme came in the middle of a relaxed and fun talk with friends a couple of special friends to who i send my love right now! It just sounds perfect to celebrate this season with such a perfect line “Baby it’s cold outside” which is actually a beautiful song from 1949 by Margaret Whiting and Johnny Mercer and there is also a cover by Glee, make sure to go and check it out! As you can imagine this number is a translation of winter seen by our contributors around the world. Some of them are going through Summer now but as you will have the chance to see, they managed to mimic the cold days spirit in some perfect ways! There is also a lot of Christmas hints and the taste of snow here and there but always and forever the stars are our delightful dolls and their little miniature world. My usual thank you goes out to all those who kindly contributed to this issue, with their images and contents. Thank you never quite says eand we all gave a lot of ourselves to have this magazine here now, struggling with time schedules, weather and other adversities, but i also know that in the end we all had a lot of fun! Another thank you has to go to our beloved sponsors, that contributed to support the project and believe in the magazine as much as we do! We want to say that this is our gift to YOU this Christmas, from all of us who made it possible, much love!* the editor

Afterwards, Matilda had a warm cup of coffee, while thinking of a way to make her dear friend smile.

“Lets hug and tell each other stories, it will make us have so much fun! |

16

“It’s cold outside, our tummies are filled with food, what better way to spend the rest of the day!”

“…but Unni, I miss mom” said Song to Matilda. (*unni = older sister in Korean)

And all of the sudden the door opened, Mom had arrived! There was nothing more sweet in the world for Song than a warm hug from her mom in such cold cold afternoon. THE END*

MAB

GRAVES FEATURED ARTIST

Our featured artist this time is the sweet and pink colored Mab Graves. She was kind enough to answer a few of our questions and spare a couple of hours of her ever busy days! Mab is a Bythe collector and customizer and know for her hand painted custom cameos. www.mabgraves.com

Tiny Feet Please tell us a bit about yourself and where you come from. Mab Graves I am a 5 foot pink-haired painter. Painting is my passion, my obsession and my full-time job! I live in an old 1800’s tavern that has been converted into a loft apartment/studio. I spend my days painting and creating and running two small businesses – 15 hours a day, 7 days a week! I have two shops on Etsy - one sells my cameos, illustrations and paintings, and in the other I sell vintage and custom handmade dolls and doll clothing. My favorite things: My favorite city for creative inspiration is New Orleans and I try to take at least a couple trips down there every year to recharge and get inspired! My favorite colors are dusty pink, saffron yellow, glitter and clear. My favorite flower is moss. My dream pet would be either a fruit bat or a hedgehog with an eye patch. My favorite things are: Pop Surrealist art, Retro and Jpop toys, Blythe dolls, smooth river stones, and fairytale picture books.

TF When did you start collecting dolls? What was your fist one and how many do you have now? I only discovered Blythe in January. I was instantly enthralled as their sweet little faces looked exactly like the girls in my mind – and the girls that I paint! It was like seeing my paintings come to life! Instant love. I actually didn’t discover the doll community till this summer – I had no idea they were out there! I now have 5 girls – and all of them have candy-pink hair just like me. It’s a family resemblance thing :) I started creating special custom dolls a couple months ago just because I wanted to create little fairy tale, Candy land dolls like the girls in my paintings. I don’t take requests - I just create them organically as the inspiration strikes!

Mab keeps her cameo supplies in these beautiful wooden boxes.

Where Mab works on her Cameos and cutom dolls, such a nice vintage feel!

57

|

TF You also take custom orders, how did that start? MG I actually had to stop taking custom orders for cameos this summer because my waitlist had gotten so long and it was getting overwhelming with all my other “irons in the fire! I am hoping I will be able to open my wait list back up and start accepting new requests after the beginning of the year.

winter seaside by the

Photography by Jess

One cold morning a little girl took a walk along the water’s edge.

64

She flew her kite high in the sky, pretending that it was floating amongst falling snow flakes.

Oh how the little girl dreamed of a white winter, but it never snowed where she lived.

Whilst collecting shells, the little girl thought up a wonderful idea. “Since I can’t build a snowman, I will make a sandman!” She gave her sandman sticks for arms, used the shells she had collected as the sandman’s eyes and placed on a special pointy shell for his nose.

67

|

|

68

After play, the little girl made a warm fire on the beach.

69

|

There she sat daydreaming once again of a white winter.
