Lake Ralph Hall Zoning Commission –Public Hearing – Regulations Manual
By Rose Schwartz
Thursday, January 26, 2023, a large crowd of the community came to Ladonia’s Fannindel High School Gymnasium to hear and be heard at the Zoning Commissions Public Hearing. At 5:30 p.m., Fannin County Judge Newt Cunningham first established Quorum of the Lake Ralph Hall Zoning Commission before opening the Public Hearing/Presentation. Noting that protests had been received and would be addressed, Judge Cunningham commented on the importance of public participation and the necessity of zoning despite the objections of those opposed to any form of zoning. He commented on former Mayor Jan Coopers departure from the board with newly appointed Commission Member Gregg Morris being at her seat and introduced the rest of the board members before having
Project Manager Daniel Harrison of Freese and Nichols, Inc. begin the power point presentation of the proposed Lake Ralph Hall Zoning Map and Regulations.
2. Presentation regarding draft Lake Ralph Hall Zoning Regulations and Zoning Map by Daniel Harrison of Freese and Nichols, Inc.: Mr. Harrison began by thanking all for their attendance and noted how the Fannin County Commissioners Court is the ultimate deciding authority for the zoning before explaining the role of the Lake Ralph Hall Zoning Commission. He then noted his presentation was categorized into six segments of:
(1) Purpose, Schedule & History; (2) Zoning Regulations Overview; (3) Review Changes to Draft #1; (4) Next Steps;
(5) Q/A; (6) Public Hearing and Recommendation. As he had in previous meetings, Mr. Harrison explained how the
purpose of the project (plan ning & zoning) is to enable people currently living or own ing property around a created lake to have a voice in how the lake area develops and protect the value of private property by preventing undesirable de velopment from occurring. The plan, though similar to Bois d’Arc Lake’s Regulation Manual, has key differences that came about from public input causing the plan to be tweaked to fall more in line with the community’s prefer ences. Differences like the size of lots for different types of zoning districts, ex: Bois d’Arc Lake’s A&R Agricul tural and Ranching minimum lot size is 5 acres whereas Lake Ralph Hall’s A&R Agricultur al and Ranching minimum lot size is 3 acres.

And a flexibility with the 5,000’ zoning area that takes into consideration property lines which makes it easier to determine whether or not a person’s property falls within the zoning area as well as the easing of setback requirements. Highlighting the zoning map, Mr. Harrison described each of the different zoning districts contained in the plan. To view the entire plan one can visit: https://freese.mysocialpinpoint.com/ralphhall/home or https://www.co.fannin.tx.us/ page/fannin.LakeRalphHall
. Before inviting public comment, Mr. Harrison addressed issues identified through protest letters received by the zoning commission. He began by noting the county zoning for this lake does not apply to those residing within the city limits of Ladonia and went
over a purpose statement for the Lake Operation District that was added as well as other revisions. In response to Judge Cunningham’s request for him to provide clarification on existing usage of properties in order to answer many concerns made known by citizens; Mr. Harrison stated the zoning is not being put in place to change what people are currently doing on their properties, but rather it is to manage the change that is coming. He noted that in the text of the zoning regulations table is verbiage addressing “pre-existing use” and attempted to assure attendees that the zoning allows existing use to continue forever. Commission member John Ed Shinpaugh helped to further clarify the “grandfathering” of the usage of the land by asking if the change of ownership of the land at a future time, changes the use. Mr. Harrison affirmed that regardless of who owns the land (heirs), the use of the land is perpetually connected with the land. Also clarified was the Shoreline management plan that is currently being worked on.
3. Hear Comments regarding the proposed Lake Ralph Hall Zoning Map and Zoning Regulations: Judge Cunningham asked those wishing to speak to keep time constraints as well as courteous consideration for neighbors, in mind with their comments reminding everyone that “being in disagreement is not a bad thing, it’s actually a healthy thing, it’s the way our democracy works.” After thanking Malinda Allison for her volunteering her time to serve as a keeper of the minutes, Judge Cunningham opened the floor to the speakers. The first to speak was Robert Milton who true to his word, politely asked, “if a person has farm use in any of those zones, and he doesn’t sell it, does it continue to be farm use?” Mr. Harrison as-
qualifying natural disaster events must apply for assistance before beginning reconstructive work. FSA’s National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and environmental compliance review process is required to be completed before any actions are taken. Submitting an application after reconstructive work has been completed may not qualify for ECP.
“Dealing with the impacts of natural disasters is never easy, especially when you have to consider the health and safety of livestock, so if you have an immediate need to begin restoring fences and want to receive ECP assistance, it’s imperative that
sured him that the usage would not change. Approximately 15 more speakers would follow with similar questions ranging from sub-division of their property to questions about whether there would be limitations of agricultural chemicals being used to questions about the type of docks that would be allowed on lake front properties. Some spoke to not ask questions but to rather make statements about their preferences on lighting restrictions, desires for the lake to retain a peaceful environmentally friendly status and for enforcement consideration for slovenly property owners whose properties fall in the category of being eyesores. Most of the speakers abode by the rules of conduct suggested by Judge Cunningham at the start of public comments.
4. Adjourn: A motion was made, seconded and passed to adjourn at 7:01 p.m.
On the same date at 7:20 p.m., Judge Cunningham opened the second portion of the Public Meeting of the Lake Ralph Hall Zoning Commission. Noting Quorum was established, Judge Cunningham stated that due to the large number of speakers during the Public Hearing portion, the Public Comment section of this meeting would not be necessary.
3. Discussion, consideration and action to approve minutes from the November 17, 2022, meeting: A motion was made by Commissioner Magness to approve the minutes with Commission Member John Ed Shinpaugh seconding the motion which passed.
4. Discussion, consideration and action regarding the Lake Ralph Hall Zoning Regulations and the recommendation to Commissioners Court: A motion was made by Commissioner Magness to recommend to the Commissioners Court the Lake Ralph Hall Zoning Regulations with Commission Member Shinpaugh sec-
you call our office for approval before you take any action,” said Lindsey.
FSA county committees will evaluate applications based on an on-site inspection of the damaged land, taking into consideration the type and extent of the damage. An on-site inspection does not guarantee that costshare funding will be provided. The 2018 Farm Bill increased the payment limitation for ECP to $500,000 per natural disaster event.
For more information on ECP, please contact the Fannin County FSA office at (903)583-9513 x2 or visit farmers.gov/protection-recovery.
onding the motion. Before the vote was taken a motion was made by Commission Member Jaylen Wallace to include an amendment to the rules to include lighting restrictions apply to residential properties as well as commercial. A motion for an additional amendment was made by Mr. Shinpaugh to include changes to the map in accordance with a protest by Mr. Chris Johnson on approximately 13 acres at 3395 on the south side of the lake. Judge Cunningham added to that amendment, if there are other properties that does not belong to the lake they should not be included in the Lake Operation District. The vote was taken on the motion with the amendments noted and the motion passed unanimously.
5. Discussion, consideration and action regarding the Lake Ralph Hall Zoning Map and recommendation to Commissioners Court: A motion was made by Mr. Wallace to recommend to Commissioners Court, with the exception of property on CR 3455 that is mostly out of the boundary line and CR 3335 with a similar lines issue and for any other properties not owned by Upper Trinity to not be zoned Lake Operation. Commissioner Magness seconded the motion which passed unanimously. After the vote, Daniel Harrison noted he and Project Planner Connor Roberts would work on a new map identifying the changes made to give to the Zoning Commission before it goes to Commissioners Court on February 7th. Judge Cunningham thanked Mr. Harrison for his efforts noting he believes everyone should participate in government in order for it to work and was sorry the commission couldn’t make everyone happy.
6. Adjourn Public Meeting: A motion was made, seconded and passed to adjourn at 7:29 p.m.

Manager Sean Pate, BEDCO Board Member Glenn Taylor and Bonham City Council Member John Burnett. After the introductions, Judge Cunningham read the Proclamation noting February 2, 2023, as marking the 175th anniversary of the City of Bonham. The Proclamation cites the date of February 2, 1848 when Bonham was incorporated as a city. Activities to commemorate the anniversary have been planned to take place on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at the City Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m and will include the reveal of Bonham’s 175th Anniversary Logo and a calendar of year-long celebratory events. Commissioner Lane made the motion to approve the Proclamation with Commissioner Kopf seconding the motion which passed. A photo was then taken.
7. Discussion, consideration and action to approve minutes from 12/07/2021 (R), 07/26/2022 (R) and 08/16/2022 (R) – County Judge for County Clerk: A motion was made by Commissioner Magness to approve with Commissioner Lane seconding the motion which passed.
8. Discussion regarding landfills in Fannin County – County Judge: Judge Cunningham began a discussion regarding a concern voiced in a previous meeting about landfills. He noted that in order to be pro-active and have
a say regarding possible future landfills in our county, an ordinance should be in place to protect the county by having requirements set up to “make our location less attractive, than somebody else’s, so they will go elsewhere.” Concluding with the statement that as far as he is concerned regarding windfarms and landfills, “I would rather have them go somewhere else.” He noted he placed this on the agenda to have the matter be given thought. Commissioner Magness agreed with Judge Cunningham adding that an ordinance regarding junkyards is also needed as records of a previous ordinance on junkyards has gone missing. Commissioner Lane also agreed with the Judge noting that Fannin County does not want a situation to develop like the City of Melissa with the placement of a landfill right in the middle of everything. Judge Cunningham noted he will research this matter and get back to the court.
9. Discussion, consideration and action regarding issuing a Burn Ban for Fannin County – County Judge for Emergency Management Coordinator: Fannin County Emergency Coordinator Troy Hudson spoke on behalf of Fannin County Fire Chiefs and noted that even with the forecast of rain, with the dry conditions being what they are, a majority of the county’s Fire Chiefs are recommending
10. Discussion, consideration and action to purchase a Case TV450B Skid Steer, Brush Grapple and a 5-Year/2000hour warranty from ASCO for $63,100.00 after receiving $41,500.00 trade in for 2017 John Deere Skid Steer
– Commissioner Precinct 1: Commissioner Lane explained how she wants to trade in an older Skid Steer to purchase a new one for her precinct in order to have a dependable piece of equipment that has a warranty on it and made a motion to proceed with the purchase.
Commissioner Self seconded the motion. Before a vote was taken, Judge Cunningham questioned how many Skid Steers are owned by the county which began an in-depth discussion of the concept of each precinct owning its own equipment as opposed to the concept of pooling equipment for use by all of the precincts. Opposing opinions were made which prompted Judge Cunningham to note that he was not recommending implementing the unit system, but to initiate a study of it in order to understand the numbers and know the best path to take for the county. Commissioner Magness made the point that there would always be four commissioners but with a unit system, a road commissioner requiring a salary of about $150,000.00 to $200,000.00 a year would be needed along with assistant personnel for that commissioner that would be an added expense for the county. Judge
Cunningham commented on last year’s $44,000.00 that was paid for an engineer to help with a subdivision plan that he felt did not need to be spent. More discussion ensued with Judge Cunningham asking the commissioners to take a hard look at where our county is and see if there might be a better way to do things with his noting that after a hard look is taken, it may be discovered that the current system is best, but it is good to have discussion. At the conclusion of the discussion, a vote was taken on the motion made to approve the purchase of the Skid Steer and the motion passed unanimously.
11. Discussion, consideration and action regarding assigning a generic email to each non-elected department – Commissioner Precinct 2: Commissioner Self explained he put this on the agenda due to the recent departure of a department head and the problem that arose of sorting through personal/business e-mails.
Fannin County Network Administrator Dustin Morrow came to the podium to discuss the matter and a detailed discussion ensued regarding the pros and cons involved with this suggestion and what the cost would be. At the conclusion of the discussion, it was determined Mr. Morrow and county department heads look at how the policy of e-mails can be tweaked to reduce the disruption that occurs when an employee leaves. Commissioner Self then made the motion to pass on this with Commissioner Magness seconding the motion which passed unanimously.
12. Discussion, consideration and action to approve the payment of bills – County Judge for County Auditor: A motion was made, seconded and passed to approve the payment of bills.
13. Discussion regarding water issues affecting Fannin County – County Judge: Judge Cunningham asked if there were any who wished to comment on this item and when no-one came forward, he noted the county does have water issues that will become more pressing with the passage of time. Stating that he is seeking as much advisement as possible, he asked that if there are any with ideas on this issue, to reach out to him with their suggestions.
14. Discussion regarding Fannin County road issues – County Judge: Donna Poslner, a resident of Precinct 2, first thanked the court for the work they do before sharing ideas and asking that a line item be added to the budget showing how much is spent to purchase on-road vehicles and how much is spent on road construction supplies and equipment.
She cited a desire for more transparency of county expenditures and better stewardship of taxpayer dollars.

Commissioners
Continued from page 5
After a discussion ensued that included comments about the average number of miles a day a commissioner puts on their vehicles (approximately 120 to 150 miles per day) and the wear and tear driving county roads puts on county vehicles, Ms. Poslner agreed that she is on the outside looking in but is talking with the commissioners to have a better understanding of the job being done. Judge Cunningham then commented how the county’s budgets need to be transparent and a need for there to be a focus on squeezing out waste going forward.
Commissioner Lane added her comments on the amount of funds going toward road and bridge from county taxes noting that for every $1,000.00 paid in county taxes, her precinct receives approximately $46.00 and expressed her belief that Fannin County Commissioners already do more for less. Commissioner Self echoed Commissioner Lane’s comments noting his belief that everyone who works for the county does more for the citizens and the betterment of the county than for the money.
15. EXECUTIVE SESSION: Personnel Matters- a closed meeting will be held pursuant to Sec. 551.074 of the Government Code for (1) deliberation of personnel matters regarding the appointment, employment, evaluation, reas-
signment, duties, discipline, or dismissal of a public officer or employee; or (2) to hear a complaint or charge against an officer or employee – regarding Development Services Position – County Judge for Commissioner Precinct 2: A motion was made, seconded and passed to enter into Executive Session at 10:35 a.m. After some time passed, a motion was made, seconded and passed to enter back into Regular Session at 11:15 a.m.
16. Discussion, consideration and action regarding Personnel Executive Session – County Judge: Commissioner Self made the motion to pass on what was discussed in Executive Session with Commissioner Magness seconding the motion which passed unanimously.
17. Comments by County Commissioners and County Judge: Commissioner Lane began by voicing her appreciation for everyone’s attendance, she stated good discussions were had and wished all a great week. Commissioner Self echoed Commissioner Lanes sentiments, noting it was good to see the community get involved and ask questions. He wanted it known he doesn’t mind answering questions and in the case of snow urged caution on the roads before wishing all a good week. Commissioner Magness brought up an e-mail sent out by County Auditor Alicia Whipple about comp time and an amount of $86,405.90 that he thinks ev-

eryone should pay attention to noting that he does not allow comp time hardly at all. He also brought up an article in the e-mail by TAC (Texas Association of Counties) about the new 2022 Commissioner Court Meeting Procedures Decorum that he recommends every Commissioner read. Commissioner Kopf noted he too received the e-mail Commissioner Magness referenced and stated he was upset by it noting his belief that this county needs to be run like a business. He mentioned he would prepare a report to show the benefits of paying overtime as opposed to granting comp time. He also appreciated all the discussion, stating a desire to earn the public’s trust and how he appreciates being able to do this job and hopefully make a difference. Judge Cunningham opined on how amazing it was that Bonham has been here for 175 years and how far we have come in that time. He noted he wants everyone to share their ideas and for there to be discussion on what the facts are. “We may not agree on where we want to be, but we can certainly agree on what the facts are before we make our decisions.” He concluded by noting that due to technical difficulties, a large portion of the zoom recording may not be available and thanked everyone for their attendance and wished God’s Blessings on all.
18. Adjourn: A motion was made, seconded and passed to adjourn at 11:22 a.m.

We’ve got all the ingredients for the best banking experience!
with Weesie
This recipe brings back so many memories from my dinner club days at the Country Club. My dear friend Elizabeth May loved this recipe and would request it when it was her turn to be the hostess.
I always loved making this dish for her and the others and thought I would share it with our readers.
BROCCOLI CHICKEN
2 lbs. chicken breast (about 8 pieces), boneless
4 slices Swiss cheese, cut in ½ slices
1 can Cream of Broccoli soup, undiluted
8 slices of fresh tomato
½ c. Pepperidge Farm Herb Seasoned Stuffing - not the cubes
2 Tbsp. butter, melted
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. This dish usually takes around 30 minutes depending on the size of your chicken breasts. You can use chicken strips also with this recipe. The original recipe didn’t call for this but Elizabeth always wanted the breasts rolled in bread crumbs and browned first before the casserole was put together. For those that remember her, you did what she said without hesitation! Spray your dish with cooking spray. Place chicken on bottom. Place ½ slice of cheese on each piece. Empty soup in bowl and stir. Then pour over chicken and cheese. Place tomato slice on each piece. Mix butter and stuffing until stuffing is moist. Sprinkle over the other ingredients. This dish can be served with rice.
I sure do miss Elizabeth May!

Chief Bankston Speaks to Kiwanis
By Mary-k Ashley Wilson
Bonham Police Chief Mike Bankston spoke to Kiwanis about counterfeit money.
While Bonham does not have a big problem with counterfeit money, Chief Bankston wanted to remind everyone to be cautious especially when receiving larger bills.
For instance, check closely that the bill does not say “for
movie use only.” These bills look real, but wording should be on the back side of bill. Look for any Asian stamp on bill, especially Chinese and North Korean.
Hold bill up to light and look Franklin’s image on bill. Also look for magnetic strips in bills. The important thing is to be cautious of large bills such as fifties and hundreds and even some twenties.
If you get money from the bank, it will be good because their money goes through several processes to make sure none is counterfeit. Use a counterfeit marker if you have one. The color will tell you if the bill is real or counterfeit.
Bonham Trade Days will be held Thursday through Sunday, February 9 through 12. This is the perfect time to find your sweetheart a delightful Valentine’s gift.

Doc was just getting up to leave the philosophy counter as Herb walked in. Herb was grinning and flexing muscles and had the look of eagles in his eyes. We stared.
“Herb,” said Doc. “You know, you can overdo a good thing.”
“Why Doc … whatever do you mean?”
“I realize that getting more exercise is your resolution for the new year, but a man your age … you need to pace yourself a little, that’s all. Don’t try to get in shape all at once.”
“Why Doc, I’ve never felt better in my life. Hey, you were so right to get me on this exercise kick. I’ve been
meaning to thank you. It’s just what I’ve been needing. What would you think about my playing some football in the spring? I mean, it’s just touch football, but I miss the ol’ razz-matazz, you know?”
Doc shook his head sadly and walked out. Herb started laughing and sat down with us and flipped his cup over for his morning eye opener.
“What was that all about, Herb?” Dud asked.
“A little joke I’m playing on Doc, that’s all,” Herb said. “You remember how Doc has been on my case to get more exercise and slim down some? Well, there was only one way to shut him up, so I started running. I bought a sweat suit and
started running. I run past his house each morning. Then, about an hour later, I run past his house the other direction, huffing and puffing and looking at my watch.”
“An hour? You run for an hour each morning?”
“Of course not,” Herb said, laughing. “I run past Doc’s house then walk the block to the library. An hour later, I run past Doc’s house and then walk two blocks home.”
We stared at him.
“What?” he said. “You know Doc’s going to worry about me one way or the other. I just thought I’d change it up a bit.”

WILLIE MAE FRY
Eve was born as an Army brat to parents George and Peggy Gerome on April 6, 1956 in El Paso, Texas. Eve and Jerry are not really date oriented, they mostly looked to the future. She didn’t talk or dwell too much on the past but a vivid memory of how she became a veterinarian comes to mind. While Eve was working at a pet store her manager told her she was too dumb to be a vet. She delighted in proving that person wrong. She jumped in with both feet and graduated in 1985 from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. She made Fannin County her home when the opportunity came up to work with Doc Witcher. She later purchased the thriving vet clinic from him and this sealed her love for the people of Fannin County and their furry four legged friends. Eve worked hard and grew her business with a deeply devoted care for the animals she served. Eve and Jerry share a once in a lifetime love and he feels compelled to share how they met.

SHIRLEY BEARDEN ROGERS
Jerry moved to Fannin County sometime around 1990 with his two Labrador Retrievers and used Eve as his Vet. Being new to the area and not big on going to church he wasn’t meeting people much less dating. One day he had the idea to place an ad in the local newspaper. His ad read something like this - “ Single 30+ white male wants to meet single 30+ white female.” He took this to the paper and stirred the girls in the office up. They were huddled together reading the ad and kept looking at him while whispering back and forth. About that time the editor walked in and asked what was going on. They handed the ad to him saying Jerry wanted to print it. He read the ad, looked at Jerry and told them to take his $4.00 dollars and publish it. He received three responses to the ad. One was name and phone number, one was from a girl that described herself as a pillow, the third one was from Eve. She sent a polaroid picture of herself dressed in a surgical gown with a full face mask, cap, and surgical gloves. Along with a resume stating the speed she could flip through tv channels, and reassuring Jerry that she had not ever murdered anyone. After reading the resume several times and laughing Jerry realized that he recognized those eyes. Eve had eyes that could look through a man’s soul. They were full of beauty and wonder. Jerry called her and the rest is history. She fondly remembered his Labs, and after 6 months of dating they were married. A lifetime with Eve wouldn’t be long enough. She will be fondly remembered for her strong work ethic, humble beginnings, devotion to animals, love for the great outdoors, and service to the people of Fannin County. Jerry and Eve had no children so the children of Fannin County became her children. She also had a farm full of animals that her and Jerry loved to take care of.
Eve is survived by the love of her life husband, Jerry, brothers Steve and Richard, sister Mary, niece Jessica and great niece Zia.
Eve was never big on receiving flowers. She would rather see them growing than in a vase. Eve was a big-time believer in charities and some of her favorites are Wounded Warrior Project, Tunnel to Towers, St Jude Children’s Hospital, and she also would donate to the smaller Zoo’s like the Caldwell Zoo in Tyler, Texas. Please consider donating in her name instead of sending or bringing flowers. Please join the family in honoring Eve’s life on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 2:00pm at Wise Funeral Home. Eve, I miss you more than you will ever know. Thank you for showing me the meaning of life and sharing your heart with me.
Love, Your husband Jerry Cash
Shirley Bearden Rogers passed away on January 24, 2023, from metastatic uterine cancer. Shirley was born on May 27, 1935, to James and Erma Bearden in Bonham Texas. SAVOY - Jacob Guzman, who in 2022 coached Savoy to its most single-season varsity wins in four years, will not return for a second season as head football coach.
Guzman has accepted the head football coach/athletic director position at Meadow ISD.
“[It is] a move that will put us closer to family,” said Guz-
man, also Savoy’s boys’ athletic coordinator, on Jan. 21.
The Cardinals started the 2022 season with a 4-2 record -- assuring having their most wins in a single varsity football season since their 5-4 bidistrict advance in 2018.
Savoy finished 2022 with a 4-6 record, going 0-3 in its first season in the new District 10-1A-I.
The Cardinals will remain in the geographically wide-

ranging 10-1A-I in 2023 with Campbell, Gilmer Union Hill and Saint Jo.
Guzman equated only the second head football coach Savoy has had since committing to six-man football in 2012.
Clay Wilson previously oversaw the program, coaching the Cardinals to six postseason trips in seven years -- the last being the aforementioned 2018 advance.

BONHAM - Almost 70 applied for Bonham ISD’s boys’ athletic director/head football coach and girls’ athletic director openings.
Per Bonham ISD superintendent Kelly Trompler on Jan. 21, applications received included 54 for the boys’ position and 15 for the girls’ position, the latter of which also includes coaching a team sport to be determined.
First-round interviews by
separate panels will begin soon to fill the positions, she said.
Also, per Trompler, each panel will include: “two district level administrators, two principals, one board member and one staff member.”
Postings for each Bonham ISD position first appeared on Dec. 14 on the Region 10 jobs board, with Jan. 20 as the deadline to apply.
In his second of three seasons as head football coach, Kyle Dezern in 2021 coached the
Purple Warriors to a .500 regular season, before a bi-district loss to Gladewater, an eventual regional semifinaist, ended the campaign at 5-6. Bonham advanced to the postseason as the 4-3 fourth-place qualifier from District 5-3A-I.
Two-win seasons preceded and followed the bi-district finalist effort under Dezern. Bonham will again be in 5-3A-I later this year for football and 11-3A for all other team sports other than soccer and powerlifting.
Lady Hornet s’ball star Dotson to compete for Grayson this season
By Rich Hilliard
Tori Dotson, whose relief pitching and bat in the 2021 Class 1A State softball title game led Dodd City to its first championship in the sport, will next vie for Grayson College in Denison.
Dotson will pitch for the Lady Vikings and wear No. 22 on her jersey.
Her Grayson career begins with road play to end January, before being at home to start the next month: Saturday, Feb. 4, Seminole State College (Okla.), 1/3 p.m.; Tuesday, Feb. 7, Paris
Junior College, 2/4 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 10, Dodge City Community College at THF Winter Blast, THF Park, Denison, Field D, 1:15 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 11, Northern Oklahoma College-Enid, at THF Winter
Blast, THF Park, Denison, Field D, 2:30 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 11, Tyler Junior College at THF Winter Blast at THF Park, Denison, Field D, 4:45 p.m.
Dotson helped Dodd City reach the 1A State softball tournament each season while in high school -- 2020 being the exception, due to COVID-19 prematurely ending that season just as district play had begun. In 2019 and 2022, the Lady Hornets reached the 1A State semifinals.
She received numerous softball accolades while in high school -- highlighted by being named most valuable player of the 2021 State softball championship game and the Texas Sports Writers Association 1A player of the year in the sport. Dotson also helped Dodd City win an undefeated 1A State girls’ basketball championship in 2021, after contributing during the Lady Hornets’ 2020 run to the volleyball regional finals.

First-half district play concluded Jan. 20 with most Fannin County boys’ basketball teams in the thick of the postseason races.
In 23-1A, Dodd City has resumed its dominance, following, in 2022 -- its first regional final appearance in a decade and first district title since 2019.
The Hornets finished the first half of district play on Jan. 20 at 7-0 with a 68-8 home win over Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy-Fate.
Dodd City began the second half on Jan. 24 with another district win to improve to 8-0.
Meanwhile, Fannindel, Ector and Savoy are also contending for the postseason in 23-1A.
In 14-2A, Sam Rayburn is vying for its first postsea-
son since 2018’s regional quartfinals advance, while Honey Grove is contending for its third-straight trip to the playoffs.
The host Rebels won, 7516, against Whitewright on Jan. 20 to finish the first half at 6-1 in district. The Warriors won, 60-12, at Trenton to improve to 4-3. Honey Grove then on Jan. 24 completed a sweep of state-ranked Wolfe City with a 60-49 win.
In 11-3A, Leonard is contending for a postseason spot, following a historic 2022 campaign -- first district title in boys’ basketball since 1998 and its second third-round advance in the boys’ sport.
Amongst the Tigers’ firsthalf wins was a victory over ranked Gunter, 40-38, on Jan. 3. They also forced overtime at frontrunner Pottsboro on Jan. 20, before falling, 57-53.

Environmental Improvements To Break Ground This Year
Press Release - Last spring
Upper Trinity’s Board of Directors approved a contract with Texas Mitigation Solutions (TMS) to restore areas near the future Lake Ralph Hall—construction required
LEGAL NOTICE
The Honey Grove Board of Adjustments will hear the following at the regular City of Honey Grove City Council Meeting, February 14, 2023 at 6:00 at Lyday Hall. Immediately following the City Council will hear from the Board of Adjustments and possible act on this variance request.
1. Application by Cole Guidinger, 901 Poplar, Honey Grove, Texas- to convert existing house into a duplex. This is a variance to the Single Family 1 Zone for this area.
to offset the environmental impacts of the new reservoir. Since that time, TMS has been working to finish designs so they can begin on stream restoration this spring.
The goal of this mitigation project is to restore a key portion of the former North Sulphur River to its original, winding path surrounded by healthy, forested floodplains. Crews will set up work trailers and identify the best areas to stage equipment and supplies. Then, site preparation will begin—removing invasive/nuisance plants and clearing and collecting trees to improve current stream designs. Stream construction should be underway by this summer.
