Upper Trinity Receives Recognition for Water Conservation Plan “Water conservation is a part of Upper Trinity’s long-range water supply plan to provide for the future water needs of our growing area,” stated Larry N. Patterson, Executive Director of Upper Trinity. “Our conservation program has many successful education and outreach programs, including Water My Yard, demonstrations for students and teachers, irrigation system checkups and others.” AWE maintains the G480-13 Water Conservation Program Operation and Management Standard (G480 Standard), which is a voluntary standard that can be adopted by water providers at their own discretion. The G480 Standard describes the elements of an effective water conservation program that helps to ensure a water provider is maximizing the water efficiency and

Thank You!
This a huge thank you to so many who have helped others during this Christmas season. Many individuals donated time, presents, food, coats, heaters and money. With these donations we were able to help more than 300 children have presents for Christmas, more than 100 families have a Christmas dinner and 48 people have heaters. Besides individuals, there are several businesses that were very generous to this project: Clayton Homes-Bonham donated the lion’s share of the money for Christmas gifts, Bluebonnet Meat Company-Trenton donated all of the baking hens for Christmas dinners, several churches in the county donated other food for the Christmas dinners and the M W and Fair Miller Foundation made a generous donation and Walmart donated not only heaters but helped get all of those families checked out on shopping days. Again, thank you from the crisis center and the citizens of Fannin County who were the recipients of your generosity.

Letters 2-19-19 to the Editor
Letter To The Editor
We have noticed that wearing a mask around Bonham and other places around Fannin County is done very little. We went to Walmart today (Wed., 12/30/2020) and noticed that over half of shoppers were not wearing masks. I asked the lady at the door of Walmart what she did, she said she counted people and gave masks to people that wanted one. She said that masks DO NOT have to be worn in Walmart because there is NO mask mandate in Fannin County. That explains why Covid cases are at 1,777 or higher. THANK YOU FANNIN COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT FOR PUTTING THE PEOPLE OF FANNIN COUNTY IN DANGER! On a different subject, Bois d’ Arc Lake is going to be a disaster. Anytime you pump 108 million gallons of water a day there won’t be enough water left for recreation, to fish or launch a boat
Letter To The Editor
unless it rains ¼” every day for a year. Take a look at Toledo Bend and what it’s been thru for the past several years. No water, marinas closing and no place to launch a boat. Think about it people, this is going to be a royal cluster. Rusty Shackelford
903-378-2304 having the proper papers. I won my age group at a Dallas Triathlon and on my five trips to Israel, I swam four miles across the Sea of Galilee. I’ve made 13 mission building trips to Japan, and one to Kyrgyzstan (near China.) It may be a hundred years behind the world; a lumberyard delivered wood on a wagon pulled by horses. I’m retired form LTV where I designed the tool for the Space Shuttle nose cone. My “Bucket List” is to get the name “LBJ Freeway” in Dallas, Texas changed to “JFK Freeway” because I believe the book, “LBJ and the Kennedy Killing” written by my friend, James Tague of Bonham, Texas. His book proves LBJ had JFK murdered by LBJ’s employee, Mac Wallace, whose fingerprints were found in
the “Snipers Window.” I was one of 16 people that went to Tague’s funeral 5 months after his book was published. It’d hard to explain why I believe Covid-19 is only the common flu we have every year because the Leader (to protect itself) told me I couldn’t quote what some doctors and “experts” have proved, but only what I think. At one time I drank the “Cool Aid” and paid $200 to be tested negative for Covid-19. I believe reported deaths by heart disease and cancer are down because the government pays hospitals money if it’s report the person dies of the virus. I believe: “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32) American needs to be free again. Rex Ray

Rex Ray’s Memories and Belief About Covid-19
Our father, Dave Ray, was in World War I. Because of his age, he was rejected for World War II until Sam Rayburn got him in the Army as a Chaplain. He wanted to go to Vietnam, and kept trying to see LBJ until the Secret Service told him, “Listen old man; go home, or we’re putting you in jail!” When he was in World War II, at a first aid tent, doctors said they couldn’t stop a soldier from bleeding to death. The soldier asked him to write a letter to his family saying: “Yesterday, I thought I was going to be killed. I prayed to Jesus to save me. He stepped into my heart and I was so happy, I thought I’d live forever. Don’t know why I was hit today, but tell my mother, I’ll meet her in heaven.” His family was broken hearted after receiving a telegram telling their son was killed in action. They knew he wasn’t a Christian. After receiving Dad’s letter, the soldier’s mother wrote him: “You’ll never know how much your letter meant to us.” I was named after our uncle, Rex Ray who was a missionary to China 30 years. Since I am 88, I’ve traveled many roads. After the war, we were with our father where he attended the Nuremberg Trials, stood where Hitler shot himself, and was restrained behind the Russian Iron Curtain for not

Running Life’s Race

perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before Him He endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” - Heb. 12: 1-5 We are standing on the threshold of the New Year. I trust that you have had a glorious Christmas-
Sauté onion and bacon in butter. Cook until soft, not brown. Add potatoes and water. Cook until tender. Add flour, cook 2 minutes. Add milk. Cook 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Add cream and clams. Cook until hot. When I went to my “homemade” recipe book to get a soup recipe, I saw this one, and decided to start the new year off with it. It’s an old recipe, but a good one. I hope you enjoy it.
time, and that you and your family have stayed well. New Year’s Day is now behind us, and the challenges of the New Year lie ahead. For my Bible passage this week I have selected Hebrews 12: 1-3. It gives to us a timely thought that a Race has been set before us, and that our Christian Life is like the running of that race. It follows that great chapter on the Heroes of faith, and we are challenged by their example.
CLAM CHOWDER 1 cup chopped onion ½ cup diced (fried) bacon ½ cup butter 1 cup diced raw potatoes ½ cup water 2 tablespoons flour 2 cups milk 1 cup cream (whipping cream) 2 – 8 oz. cans of clams
Please send me your favorite or unique recipes to 300 E. Russell Ave., Bonham, TX 75418, or take them by the Leader’s office at 224 N. Main St. in Bonham.

The successful running of our race demands personal preparation and readiness. Two things come to my mind: namely, a letting go of life’s hindrances, and letting God be our helper. A helpful inventory of the past 12 months will determine what our life has been and what changes need to be made. Are there some things that should be laid asideweight and be- setting sins? Are we dressed in proper spiritual attire for running to be made easier? How committed and focused are we? Are we keeping our eyes on Jesus?
Keep in mind that we “hold out” by holding on CALVARY UNITED to Him. He it is who is the 4/21/15 PENTECOSTAL Author and Finisher of our CHURCH faith. Guided to some degree by examples set by our neighbors and peers across Texas and working very closely with BEDCo’s counsel our Emergency Assistance – Round 1 grant program took shape, a task force of the board was established to set the guidelines and a budget amendment was passed by the Directors and ratified by City Council to re-program and supplement BEDCo’s advertising and marketing fund into grants. In the first half of May, a total of $49,600 was awarded to 31 eligible Bonham Small Business ‘EA – Round 1’ grant applicants in the form of a $1,600 check to the business for essential business expenses, and ‘consistently with the laws of the State of Texas.’ Recognizing the prolonged nature of this pandemic threat [#6] BEDCo rolled-out the robustly funded Small Business ‘EA – Round 2’ Loan Program with $150,000 in funds to loan eligible (and creditworthy) Bonham businesses. The maximum loan amount was $10,000 for 48-months at 0% APR with a 120-day payment deferral. The application period ran through the end of FY2019 {Sep 30, 2019}. We

did discover that even 0% APR loans in uncertain times attract far fewer ‘loan’ applicants than ‘grant’ applicants. For all the uncertainty and complexities of trying to run a business during a pandemic try to imagine being a bi-national corporation with expansion plans and a facility already purchased in your would-be new host community where the clock is running out on a ‘six figure’ performance-based incentive your firm has authorized. Now close the international border between those two bilateral nations to all but essential traffic. You have a glimpse of what the management team at Dairy Manufacturers, Inc (DMI) is coping with. [#5] BEDCo’s board approved and the City Council ratified a 16-month extension to the performance agreement with DMI. [#4] Somewhat similar situation for Saratoga Investments, LLC although that is for potential commercial instead of manufacturing development. And while there is no international border, there has been unflagging resistance by long-standing prospective ‘end-users’ to travel even from the Metroplex to Bonham to evaluate signing on with them to develop BEDCo Lot 1. BEDCo approve a 3rd contract

Bonham/BEDCo 2020 ‘Top Ten’ 3/7/17 Development Accomplishment 1/3/17
December 26, 2020 · Press Release - Covid, CoVid, COVID; the year that was, and the year we ALL could have done without! In approximately sequential order I hope to re-cap for you BEDCo’s series of actions and initiatives to this wholly unprecedented {in ‘our’ lifetimes} ‘global catastrophe.’ Keep in mind that while this was, is and remains a community-wide threat to you and your neighbor’s lives and livelihoods, there are multiple vaccines coming our way – so please do not get careless now! You may not view yourself as particularly vulnerable, or part of an elevated risk population segment but whether you recognize it or not, you do know people who are! Keep socially distancing, wash your hand frequently and wear the darn mask! If not for your own sake then for the cashier or grocery bagger at the supermarket, the customer service worker at the drive-thru, the delivery driver you see so often just down the block, or those steadfast USPS mail carriers whose route pass by your home, shop, or business five to six time a week with such regularity that we can thoughtlessly take them for granted. Wear it for the sake and safety of ‘our’ First Responders, healthcare workers and other caring for those who may be in crisis! When it is your turn in the weeks and months ahead be sure to get the vaccine – both rounds so we all can get back to something approach what we once called ‘normal.’ As the pandemic reached north Texas [#10] in March, staff granted a 120-day loan repayment suspension (no interest or penalty) to those Bonham manufacturers with ‘notes’ to BEDCo. This was done earlier enough (before April payments were due) so they could maximize their cash reserve. BEDCo’s board unanimously ratified this action. In early April [#9] BEDCo underwrote ‘Breakfast on us’ as a simple but tangible ‘thank you’ to those who help make our own Saturdays more enjoyable! All those Bonham police, 9-1-1 dispatchers, firefighters/EMS, TMCBonham staff ‘on-shift’ and those USPS letter carriers on duty were included. This effort was mounted with the Breakfast Stop and Stay Grounded Coffee

I have heard a wise man say, “when you own your own land you control your own destiny.” Whatever that destiny may ultimately be, for Bonham it will involve re-integrating our newly restored Fannin County Courthouse into the civic and commercial rhythms of downtown Bonham! Therefore, high on the 2021‘To Do’ list is inviting proposals [RFQ’s = Request for Qualifications] from a broad array of professional and design firms to assist us in developing a Downtown Bonham Master Plan that will maximize the cultural, social, and economic benefits for not just Bonham but all of Fannin County! Brookshires dispensing Covid Vaccines Press Release - Christmas came early for Judge Lauri Blake and her husband Randy. While shopping for 11/3/20 Christmas dinner groceries, the Brookshire’s pharmacy
COUNTY LEADER’S
announced a few Covid vaccines were available for anyone interested. These limited vaccines were being offered to ensure none are wasted. Judge Blake and her husband signed up and received the Covid vaccine. Other shoppers who expressed interest in also receiving the vaccine were able to sign up for future distributions. First responders are top on the list to receive the vaccine. When a batch of vaccine, 9 doses per batch, is made ready for distribution, it is thawed for an hour and then used or it is wasted. Because no other first responders were available to receive the remaining doses for the day, the public was invited to sign up. “I was surprised and pleased to be able to receive the vaccine on Christmas Eve. Definitely an early Christmas present for us!” stated Judge Blake.

DAVID ALLEY 1/5/21
Telephone- David William Alley passed away Wednesday, December 23 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison at the age of 54. He was born June 5, 1966 in Lima, Ohio to the late Raymond and Mary Ann (Potts) Alley. David worked at Clayton Homes in Bonham and was a member of the Bonham Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. David was a more profound man than he allowed others to see. He saw beauty in everything around him, as reflected by the landscapes and sunsets captured in photographs during the introspective walks he liked to take at the close of every day. He saw life as a grand adventure, and was attracted to motorcycles and music, as though some voice inside him whispered that his time here would not be long, and he needed to cover as much ground as fast as he could while he was here. He put little value on monetary gains, but great value on time around the dinner table with family and friends and appreciated the simple pleasures of great food and great company. He liked to read and gather knowledge about anything and everything. He treated every person he met as a member of his own family and will be remembered as man who loved all he met and was loved by all in return. In short, he was a man who lived life to its very fullest and left behind the greatest of all legacies: simply the fact that he was a good man. can loan it to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for the ShareLunker selective breeding and stocking program. These anglers can call the ShareLunker hotline at (903) 681-0550 to report their catch 24/7 until April 1, 2021. Anglers who catch and donate one of these 13+ lunkers earn Legacy Class status, receive a catch kit filled with merchandise, a 13lb+ Legacy decal for their vehicle or boat, VIP access to the Toyota ShareLunker Annual Awards event and a high-quality replica of their lunker fish. These anglers will also receive entries into two separate drawings; a Legacy Class Drawing and the yearend Grand Prize Drawing. Both drawings will award the winner a $5,000 Bass Pro Shops shopping spree and an annual fishing license. Anglers who enter data for any lunker they catch greater than 8 lbs. or 24 inches during the calendar year 2021 also receive a catch kit, a decal for their vehicle or boat and an entry into the year-end Grand Prize Drawing to win a $5,000 Bass Pro Shops shopping spree and annual fishing license. ShareLunker entry classes include the Lunker Class (8lb+), Elite Class (10lb+), and Legend Class (13lb+). Once a lunker is reeled in, anglers need to enter the catch data on the Toyota ShareLunker mobile app – available for free from the Apple App Store and Google Play – or on the Toyota ShareLunker online app at TexasSharelunker.com. In addition to providing basic catch information, anglers can also provide a DNA scale sample from their lunker bass to TPWD researchers for genetic analysis. The Toyota ShareLunker Program is made possible in part by the generous sponsorship of Toyota. Toyota is a longtime supporter of Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, providing major funding for a wide variety of fisheries, state parks and wildlife projects. of the GAC with ArkansasMonticello. Ouachita Baptist will start play at Harding University. Bennett, a 2018 Leonard graduate, returns for her junior year at Ouachita Baptist (Ark.), where last season she appeared in all 28 games, started 17, averaged 4.1 points,. 2.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists and made 29 3-pointers. Additionally, Bonham’s Josh Ukpe, a 6-3 190 sophomore guard, is back for Southern Arkansas University’s men’s basketball team, which starts play at Henderson State (Ark). Ukpe, a 2019 Bonham graduate, got into five games and played 17 minutes as a true freshman during the 2019-20 season for SAU -- which is favored to win the men’s Eastern Division of the GAC. Elsewhere, Austin College’s women’s basketball team will look to follow up a banner 2019-20 season with a 12game slate of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contests during the first two months of 2021. Teams will travel to an SCAC rival or play host each weekend during the
regular season, which extends through February, with a game on Friday and Saturday. The ensuing SCAC women’s tournament will occur at AC, with a chance to garner the SCAC automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. Lindsay Carter, a 5-9 senior forward and 2017 Dodd City graduate, returns for her second season at Austin College, which will start play by hosting Dallas Jan. 15-16. Coming off the bench, Carter hit 16 3-pointers last season, as AC was a first-time SCAC women’s basketball champion and played in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. She transferred to AC from Concordia University in Austin where she played her first two seasons of college basketball. February will then mark the start of the third season of the collegiate volleyball for Alyssa Davis, a 2018 Leonard graduate, at Centenary College of Louisiana of the SCAC. Centenary will play host to Austin College on Feb. 20 to start the spring volleyball sea-

She also had 244 digs. Meanwhile, a few 2020 Fannin high school graduates will start their collegiate athletic careers -- delayed a semester due to COVID-19 -- during the first two months of 2021. Bonham’s Averi Reeves, a 5-10 outside hitter, will begin her freshman season for Southeastern Oklahoma State volleyball on Jan. 26 at Oklahoma Baptist -- part of a 10week, 10-match divisional slate for Great American Conference schools that extends through March. Trenton’s Kaiden West will start his college football career with a four-game slate in February for Austin College which will play as an affiliate member of the Southern Athletic Association.
