By Bro. Bill Beasley The setting for this week’s writing began in Greensboro, North Carolina. It was a very memorable time in many ways. Time wise it was something that was taking place in early October, 1945. I had been sent there to receive my discharge from military service. With the war over in Japan, I had been notified that I would need to claim my preservice job in December. This would mean a move back to Texas. The most memorable decision was one to be made in my heart. I did not want to go back to Texas without Sadie. For

Laying the Foundation

After a short honeymoon to the Gulf Coast we moved to Port Neches, Texas and began the joy of establishing our home and growing our marriage. One of the first decisions that we made after moving was to become a part of a local church. The First Baptist Church of Port Neches received us as members and nurtured us through the first years. The thought that I have today for every family is to include the local church in your plans for building a strong home. The church will help you to build your home on God’s word and enjoy regular worship with others.

From my LiFe to yours: 5/2/17 the past three months our relationship had grown to the point that I felt marriage was in the making. We had been laying a good foundation. I was thinking proposal time – and I wired Sadie that upon my arrival in Mississippi I had something to tell her. I think she had the same feeling for the moment I returned she asked, “What do you have to tell me?” I shared with her that my discharge date had been set and that my job was waiting, then my proposal “I do not want to go to Texas without you. Will you be my wife?” She accepted and we planned the wedding for Nov 15, 1945.

What is Celebrate Recovery? The purpose of Celebrate Recovery is to fellowship and celebrate God’s healing power in our lives through the Eight Recovery Principles found in the Beatitudes and Christ-Centered Twelve Steps. These steps guide the recovery of those wanting to leave behind hurts, habits, and hang-ups. Examples include dependency on alcohol or drugs, low self-esteem, depression, anger, abuse, broken relationships, pornography and any other life experiences that affect our peace and joy with God. As we progress through the program we discover our personal, loving and forgiving Higher Power, Jesus Christ.

Rep. Ratcliffe statement on Trump Ukraine call transcript WASHINGTON – Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-Texas) issued the following statement today on the release of the declassified, unredacted transcript of President Trump’s telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy from July 25th, 2019: “The special counsel wrongfully flipped the legal burden of proof to require President Trump to conclusively determine his innocence. Now Democrats have done the same thing to our national security. The transcript conclusively determines, despite Democratic promises to the

contrary, that there was no quid pro quo. No mention of military aid. No violation of the law. But to conclusively prove his innocence, a classified and privileged conversation between a foreign head of state and our president is now in the public view. In their desire to undo the 2016 election and destroy President Trump, Democrats have today unequivocally and irreparably harmed our national security and compromised an important ally. Instead of forming an impeachment line, Democrats should consider forming an apology line.”

BONHAM, Texas—Morning Star Academy will host a children’s concert on October 18th at 5:30 PM on the academy lawn. Entertainer Eddie Coker is famous for his highly interactive and engaging concerts aimed at helping children of all ages develop emotional intelligence. His unique programs touch on the areas of character building, the fostering of kindness and empathy, physical fitness, and helping children to architect, from an early-age, a “core” of selfvaluing; a self-valuing that is essential in dealing with the world they live in. Morning Star is pleased to announce that through their

This week is the week of the annual Fannin County Fair. Now anyone that has grown up in Fannin County or lived here long enough knows that the fair is a big deal. No, it’s not as large as a lot of other county fairs, but it’s our fair. It’s the fair where youth bring in their cows, goats, lambs, rabbits and chickens that they have fed and trained all year for the livestock competition that is held this week. It’s the fair that girls from the age of little toddlers to high school seniors put on their prettiest dress and biggest smile and via for that coveted title of Miss Fannin County. It’s the fair where young to old enter that special craft item that they’ve worked so hard on or the baked or canned good item that they’ve tested recipe after recipe until they came across the right one to have a chance at winning that blue ribbon. I’ve lived in Fannin County all my life, as did my children. I have memories of going to the Fannin County Fair when I was a kid and taking my children when they were kids. The fair back then was held at the old armory in Bonham. I remember the rides, the games and the glorious smell of food and music filling the entire area of the

The ten most powerful two letter words: IF IT IS TO BE, IT IS UP TO ME

armory grounds; the livestock were kept under the pavilion and the princess, duchess and queen contests were held at the overflowing standing room only amphitheater. I remember school clubs having their booth setup with games to play and selling all types of food to raise money for their clubs. Ahhh…. sweet memories. A lot has changed since those days. The fair is held in a different location, the carnival, games and booths are different than they were back then, and of course a lot of new faces will be at this year’s fair compared to last year. But some things will remain the same. Regardless of where the fair is held, you will always see people you know, year after year, watching the livestock competition, cheering for their princess that is competing and eating that unmistakable fair food of onion blossoms, funnel cakes and cotton candy. It’s a place that you can catch up with that friend you haven’t seen in a long time or realize how much little Johnny has grown since last year. Regardless, our fair is a place where family and friends gather year after year, where memories are made and memories are shared and that is something that will never change.

Photos by Christina Brown By Christina Brown On Saturday, September 21, 2019, between 100-150 dogs came to the Bonham MultiUse Complex to compete in Top Dog Racers Flyball. The competition attracted dogs and their owners from all over the Texas and Oklahoma area which made up 13 teams. You may ask what is Flyball? Well I didn’t know either, so being a dog lover I had to check it out. Flyball is an organized team sport for dogs and their people. It is the fastest growing dog sport today, and after witnessing the competition I can see why. It’s about speed, jumping and the dog’s desire to compete. Flyball is a fast pace race between two teams consisting of six dogs (four will run and 2 alternates). The dogs race in parallel lanes which includes a set of four hurdles. At the end of the lane they retrieve a tennis ball from a spring loaded Flyball box, then returns to the finish line with the ball. As soon as that dog crosses the finish line, the 2nd dog is allowed to start the same course and so on. The team that successfully runs all four dogs with the best time is declared the winner. Winner or not, this is by far not a quiet sport. Every dog knows why they are there and they take it very seriously. There may only be 2 teams of 4 dogs at the starting line, but when the command to start the

race is given, every dog in the multiplex knew what was happening and voiced their excitement as if they were cheering on their competitors. It doesn’t take a special type of dog to compete. All ages, sizes and breeds of dogs competed Saturday, from a little white poodle to Whip-

pets and Border Collies. So if this is something you might be interested in for you and your four legged family member, I recommend that you check it out. It is a fun sport for you and your furry friend to share whether it be in the backyard or at a competition.

Thief

For the second year, someone stole a beautiful Fall saddle wreath from our parent’s grave at Willow Wild. To the person who did this, I hope you are proud of yourself! You have proven to be the lowest of human beings. My sister bought and put that wreath there. While you are driving around stealing From Graves, she is working hard for her money! It is a shame that a family cannot honor their loved ones with a pretty gravesite because of people like you! Enjoy the flowers and remember this - You Reap What You Sow. By Sheila Bewley
