PRESORTED

FAITHFUL

Before Jesus’ final message to John as to what the last days would hold for those alive on the earth, He addressed seven churches in Asia Minor who were in close proximity and represented the gathering of believers which consisted of mainly non-Jewish [Gentile] believers, yet were established by the disciples of Jesus and Jewish believers in the Messiah, Yeshua (Jesus). Through the teaching of the prophetic scriptures of Moses and the Prophets, and as witnesses to the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead, they were able to reveal God’s Mystery of the ages from beginning to end – the Mystery of Jesus Christ. That is why Revelation is written; it is the Revealing of Jesus Christ. Revelation 1:1 These congregations of believers in Jesus Christ were not only churches of a physical nature and location, but would supersede natural time and location by the Spirit of God and become a message to the churches through the last centuries and just prior to Jesus return to earth. They were a foreshadowing of what the Body of Christ – the Church – would look like just prior to His Return. Why would He send these messages to the church? Because He wanted them to be ready to meet Him, face to face. Because He has a reward awaiting the Overcomer (the Victor) and He wants us to have it. “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with Me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.” Revelations 22.12. Last time, we looked at Ephesus, a church who started strong in their love and devotion but had become complacent. They had become a gathering of believers who were going through the motions but were no longer stirred by their heart’s passion – their love for their Savior, Jesus Christ. In His letter to Smyrna (Rev. 2:8-11), Jesus gave no such criticism. Actually, it is the only gathering of believers for which He had only words of encouragement. Although Smyrna was in an affluent area in the Roman Empire known for science and medicine and touting a population of 200,000, Jesus said they were “afflicted” and living in “poverty”, yet to HIM, they were rich. Their name – the church in “Smyrna” may give us more insight into their earthly plight. The word, Smyrna, means Myrrh. Sound familiar? Myrrh is a strong, bitter herb – a gift that was presented to Jesus at His Birth (Matthew 2:11) and used to anoint the Old Testament temple which is a foreshadowing of the Eternal Temple, the Body of Christ and the Priesthood (Exodus 30:23-30). The metaphor is the Anointing of the Holy Spirit needed to perform any spiritual service acceptable to God. The bitterness of Smyrna’s circumstances was a result of their uncompromising service to their Savior by the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus was familiar with their bitter life full of hard, difficult, and dangerous situations in which Smyrna found itself. They were not only abandoned and persecuted by the unbelieving world around them, they were the victims of traitors that called themselves true believers in God. Why? Because of their belief and acceptance of Yeshua, God’s Salvation in Jesus Christ, and their staunch denial of anyone or anything that compromised their uncompromising dedication to HIM. They would not “go along to get along” even when it led to persecution and death. They believed Jesus’ Word, “I AM the Way, The Truth, and The Life. No one comes to God The Father except through Me.” John 14:6 – and they lived it! What Jesus did not say to these believers is, “Everything is going to be ok. I am going to wipe your enemies out and lead you forth as victors on this earth.” The biggest problem His own people had with Jesus is that He did not come as a conquering King (the first time), He did not set up an earthly kingdom (at that time) and He did not fight back when deserted by the world, his own countrymen, and even by his own disciples, friends and family. Prior to His crucifixion he told Pilate, “My Kingdom is not of this world…. My Kingdom does not have its origins here.” John 18:36. Yes, Jesus understood the plight of Smyrna believers who truly represented His Body. His advice to them? “Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.” [You will share in My resurrection.] Revelation 2:11. This is not a popular message. Jesus did not come to get us out of it, He came to lead us through it. We have suffered little persecution for the Name of Jesus. Not only is it coming, it is already here. Jesus told us that prior to His return, “They will hand you over for persecution, and they will kill you. You will be hated by all nations because of My name.” Matthew 24:9. Across our nation, crosses are burning, houses of worship are looted and vandalized by mobs and many are closed by state and local governments while their church leaders are persecuted and drug into court if they choose not to obey. In these bitter times, can we stand with Smyrna and be anointed with the same persecution they were willing to suffer for the name of Jesus? Jesus left us these words. “Be careful! Do not spend your time feasting and drinking. Do not be too busy with worldly things. If you do that, you will not be able to think straight. And then that day might come when you are not ready. So be ready all the time. Pray that you will be strong enough to escape all these things that will happen. And pray that you will be able to stand before the Son of Man.” Luke 21:34-36 (ICB)

We are made to wonder how much longer a loving God will exercise his patience with us and delay the return of His Son to claim His own. We can be sure that if it were not for His being our hope this world would be a hopeless place. Someone said, “The secret of coping with our hope-

to live, since he only weighed 1 lb, 13 oz. at birth, a wonderful Christian lady from the Metroplex made a beautiful prayer quilt for him. Bad Moon Rising, Bringing Creedence to Bonham

Sat. Oct. 17th @ 8pm

Bad Moon Rising began in 2008, after lead guitar player, Steve Combs, attended a live concert featuring legendary John Fogerty. Steve decided to share his love of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s music, creativity, and idealism. He then formed a band with individuals who also shared the passion to keep the music alive. After a few years of performing festivals, fairs, bike rallies and corporate shows as an opening act, Bad Moon Rising was able to take on the responsibility of being the main attraction. Bad Moon Rising decided to incorporate different instruments to expand their horizons and make the music sound as close to

the record as possible. Bad Moon Rising takes pride in what they do and want people to be able to close their eyes and feel like they’re living the music again. > Steve Combs - Lead Guitar, Lead Vocals, Harmonica, Keys > Chris Combs - Rhythm Guitar, Dobro, Keyboard, Vocals > Jason Akers - Bass Guitar > Thomas Chaney - Drums Bad moon rising Venue: Powder Creek Pavilion (903)227-1911 520 S. Treating the Inevitable: Equine Emergencies

Fighting Fire Ants in the Fall

By Linda Brinlee, Fannin County Master Gardener With autumn rainfall comes new fire mounds, however finding fire ant bait may be difficult during the fall months. AgriLife Extension recommends the two-step methodbroadcasting the area with a selected bait product then treating individual mounds. When fire ant bait is difficult to find, or for those who wish to use other methods, Wizzie Brown has put out an article “Natural, Organic, and Alter-

native Methods for Imported Fire Ant Management” published by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. In his article, W. Brown mentions several methods to control individual mounds. He does mention that though these methods may kill a mound, they may not necessarily kill the queen. Methods discussed include •Pouring very hot or boiling water over the mound. It takes about 3 gallons of hot water to eliminate 60% of the mound. •Home remedies such as

•Improve Performance •Decrease Sickness & Stress •Increase Fiber Digestion •Decrease Labor Cost

aspartame, baking soda, cinnamon, club soda, coffee grounds, grits and Malt-OMeal, and molasses failed to document control of fire and mounds. •Gasoline, diesel, and other petroleum products are strongly discouraged. They are dangerous to use, can seriously pollute soil and groundwater, and are not EPA-registered pesticides. •Use of soap and other cleaning products not labelled for pesticide use are strongly discouraged also. Manufacturers of these products do not support uses that are not specified on the label and will not assume liability for any problems that may arise with their unregistered use. Insecticidal soap is labeled for limited uses but is not registered for use on

fire ants. •Botanical insecticides labeled for fire ant control can be used to treat mounds. Some of these are pyrethrin mixed with diatomaceous earth, rotenone and pine oil products, and products with orange oil derivative d-limonene. •Diatomaceous earth labelled for by EPA for pesticide control can be used on ant trails. D.E. does not usually eliminate the entire colony. Forms of DE not labeled for use as a pesticide, swimming pool filter grade or treated D.E., should not be used as a pesticide. The article includes many other methods not mentioned above. For additional methods and those specifically mentioned as organic look up Wizzie Brown’s article under agrilifeextension.tamu.edu.

by Meghan Mendoza It seems like our horses are always trying to find new and inventive ways to hurt themselves. It never fails that when I just finish paying off one vet bill, the next vet bill comes in because somebody decided to run through the fence or gash their face open or colic. One thing we can do, however, is to be prepared for those emergencies when they happen. This not only helps the horse, but helps you, the owner, stay calm because you already have everything you need and can treat your animal while you wait for your vet to arrive. So here are a few supplies you should have on hand, and what you can do for your horse in certain emergencies while you wait. In your emergency kit you should have:•1 dose Banamine (flunixin meglumine)•Bute (phenylbutazone)•Antibiotic ointment•Antiseptic spray•1 tube of eye ointment•Nonstick bandage (Telfa™) or gauze squares•3 gauze rolls•1 roll sheet cotton, 12” tall by 18” long•3 Vetrap ™•1 small bottle of Betadine•Digital thermometer•Pliers or wire cutters •Flashlight Now, while you’re waiting for the vet to arrive, there are some things you can do to prepare no matter what the emergency. First off, make sure the horse in question is caught and up in a stall or small pen that is easy to get to. In emergencies, it’s nice to be able to pull the vet truck right up to the barn or into the pasture where the horse is if the ground is dry enough. Make sure there is plenty of light. Nothing is worse than trying to sew up a horse by the light of a headlamp. Bring extension cords and work lights, flashlights, or headlights into the area where the vet will be working if there is no electricity. Make sure that your barn/ house/driveway/pasture area is visible from the road. Finding a new place is hard enough, and in the dark it can be almost impossible to locate a driveway if it’s not marked very well. Turn on as many lights as you can, and if possible, station someone out at the road who can flag down the vet as they drive by. If nothing else, put a car or truck at the end of the driveway with the headlights on to indicate where the vet should go when they arrive. So what do we do to help our horse in the 1-2 hours it’s going to take our vet to get there? Well that depends on the emergency. Here are the most common emergencies we see and what you should do about them while you wait: CUTS AND LACERATIONS Clean the cut well with betadine and water. Apply antibiotic ointment down into the

wound or use antiseptic spray. If it is bleeding profusely, you will need to pack cotton down into the wound, place a layer of cotton on top, and wrap tightly with Vetrap or an ace bandage to apply pressure to stop the bleeding. This can be left on for 2-4 hours to get the bleeding under control, and then a regular bandage can be applied. A clean maxi-pad or diaper may also be used. HOW TO APPLY A BANDAGE: 1. Apply a layer of antibiotic ointment to the wound 2. Cover the wound with a nonstick pad 3. Wrap a layer of sheet cotton over the pad 4. Wrap a gauze roll over the sheet cotton to hold the pad and cotton in place 5. Place Vetrap™ over the gauze and cotton for a secure bandage Check out our Youtube channel for videos on how to wrap wounds! COLIC If the horse is pawing, lying down, or rolling repeatedly, then he probably has colic. Colic is a broad term meaning “bellyache” in horses. This can be caused by gas, food being stuck, the gut not working, or sometimes a twisted gut. If your horse is exhibiting these signs: 1. Take away all feed and hay, water is ok 2. Give Banamine orally. If you have liquid, give 1cc per 100 pounds body weight (a 1000# horse would get 10cc). If you have paste, the dose is marked on the tube. 3. Walk the horse slowly for 1 hour (it will take about an hour for the Banamine to work), but don’t continually walk all night as this will just exhaust the horse 4. If the horse is feeling better in 1 hour, he can have some grass and water (no feed or hay) 5. Monitor closely for 24 hours. If the horse is still exhibiting signs of discomfort or pain at any point in the following 24 hours after the Banamine, CALL THE VET! NAIL IN FOOT If you discover a nail in the foot or hoof, DO NOT PULL IT OUT! Call your vet immediately and have them x-ray the foot first. There are many structures within the hoof capsule that are very sensitive to infection. If one of those is affected by a nail, it can cost your horse his life. EYE INJURY If your horse has one eye squinting, half closed, and tearing, he probably has a scratch on the cornea or is experiencing eye pain. Call your vet within 24 hours (DON’T WAIT AND SEE!!!), as a corneal scratch can deteriorate rapidly (in as little as 2 days) and then it becomes a race to save the eye. 1. Eye ointment can be applied in the affected eye at the discretion of your veterinarian (make sure it does not have dexamethasone in it!!!) Acceptable ointments include Triple Antibiotic (neomycin, polymyxin, bacitracin), SSD, or Itraconazole. 2. Give Banamine orally CHOKE Excessive drooling, feed or saliva coming out the nose, or the horse tensing up his neck really tight can indicate that your horse is choking. He is allowed to try to clear it himself for 20-30 minutes. After 20-30 minutes, if he’s still choking, it’s time for the vet to come out and help. Banamine can be given orally while you wait, even if he can’t swallow it. If there is ever any doubt as to whether it’s an emergency, call your veterinarian right away. They’ll be able to help you determine if it requires an afterhours call or not.

Hearing Continued from page 14

Perhaps it’s even more apparent that how well you hear affects how well you live.

For Kelly Baker, of Sherman, things like answering the phone at work became a problem. “I’m a healthy person and yet I didn’t go have my hearing checked until I knew I had to do something,” Kelly said. “My hearing had been deteriorating for years.

To this day, I don’t know what took me so long.” Kelly’s appreciation for hearing well again is evident. “When you can’t hear, you end up having to interpret what everybody is saying, and it’s easy to get it wrong,” he said. “You miss so much. Now

I can hear conversations. I can answer my phone. I can go outside and hear the birds. Every day of my life is improved! What’s keeping you from hearing well? If it’s financial, you have

options. Your insurance coverage may help with the cost of new hearing aids. You may have end-of-year benefits that will expire in 2021. With all the choices available today, your hearing health depends on your being an educated consumer. How you get your information, what

you choose, and who you buy from can have enormous implications for how satisfied you are with your new hearings aids (and the price you paid for them). Have your hearing checked by a qualified professional and see the difference hearing well again makes.

THE

DEMOCRATIC SIDE

“Without prefix, without suffix, and without apology, I am a Democrat!” -- Speaker Sam Rayburn

CHARACTER COUNTS I have voted in every Presidential election since I came of age in 1964. I’ve voted for Democrats. I’ve voted for Republicans. And in 1992, I even voted for my old boss, Ross Perot who was a...well, I don’t think he had a party. I may have even voted for Nixon in 1968. If I did, I have subliminally blocked it out. It’s an obligation that I have taken seriously even though in retrospect I’m pretty sure that my single vote was never the deciding vote. Yes, I do have strongly held opinions on the pressing issues of the day, and at this point in my life they tend to have a progressive tilt. But that’s not why I’ll not be voting for Trump this coming November 3rd. I first expressed my view on Trump in an article I posted on my website in 2016 entitled “Why I Would Never Vote for Trump.” (http://garyjfernandes.com/why-i-would-never-vote-for-trump/) I won’t take you through the details here, but I cited three reasons for my no-Trump-vote. First, Trump discriminates. Trump has discriminated against blacks and other minorities his whole life. Second, Trump objectifies and demeans women, and third, Trump mocks people with disabilities. The evidence for each of these assertions is readily available to all who would look and are in my judgement incontrovertible. Taken one at a time, or even taken together, you may conclude that these are not a basis which should determine one’s vote for the highest office in the land. What I concluded in 2016 and reaffirm here today is that character, or absence of character, counts and perhaps should be determinative in our selection of Presidents. Trump falls abysmally short on the character metric. In fact, one could say that Trump manifests a prime example of absence of character. He should not have been elected in 2016, and certainly should not be elected again in 2020. Some years ago, I was speaking with a man who is deeply involved in real estate development in New York and internationally. I asked him if he knew anyone who had done a deal with Trump. He answered that he knew many people who had done a deal with Trump, but none who had done two. There are certainly many other reasons that we should do everything we can to avoid another four years with Trump, but in my judgement, absence of character is disqualifying at the outset. --Gary J. Fernandes, Honey Grove, TX

CHARACTER COUNTS PART 2

Trump hosted an unmasked super-spreader event to introduce a judge who would vote to give the government control of your body while taking away your health care. When he got the virus that had not miraculously disappeared as he said it would, he checked in to a military hospital for government-funded treatment that is not available to any other American. The $750 he paid in taxes would have covered approximately 12 minutes of that treatment--the rest was financed by us, the taxpayers who do contribute our fair share. Now, after receiving benefits that no one else in the world would be able to access, he has the nerve to say, “Don’t be afraid.” That’s scant comfort for the 215,000 who have already died, and the 200,000 more who are predicted to die by January, 2021. The new Republican slogan: Trump’s Life Matters--Yours, Not So Much

VOTE! VOTE NOW! There’s a reason they are trying so hard to keep Democrats from voting, but your country needs you now more than ever. Millions in other states have already voted, and it’s our turn to have a voice. Use yours! Use it early!

TMC Bonham Hospital Recommends Flu Vaccine

Press Release - As we continue to fight the battle against COVID-19, it’s important to look ahead to this year’s Influenza (Flu) season and understand the differences between the two viruses. According to The Centers for Disease Control (CDC), flu and COVID-19 are both contagious respiratory illnesses, but they are caused by different viruses. COVID-19 is caused by infection of a new coronavirus (called SARS-CoV-2) and flu is caused by infection of influenza viruses. Because some of the symptoms of flu and COVID-19 are similar, it may be hard to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone, and testing may be needed to help confirm a diagnosis. Flu and COVID-19 share many characteristics, but there are some key differences between the two. Most notably, people with COVID-19 have experienced shortness of breath and a loss of taste and smell. Experts believe it’s likely that flu viruses and the virus that causes COVID-19 will both be spreading this fall and winter. Researchers also believe that it is possible to have flu, as well as other respiratory illnesses, and COVID-19 at the same time. Diagnostic testing can help determine if you are sick with flu or COVID-19. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, reducing the spread of respiratory illness-

es, like flu, this fall and winter is more important than ever. According to Jaime Littrell, MLS, Infection Prevention Coordinator at TMC Bonham Hospital, “This has been an eventful year, but there are things we can do to keep ourselves safe. One of the simplest things is to get your flu shot.” CDC has worked with vaccine manufacturers to have extra flu vaccine available. Those manufacturers have already begun distributing flu vaccine and will continue to distribute vaccine throughout the season. It’s recommended getting a flu vaccination in September or October, however getting vaccinated anytime during the flu season can help protect you. Although getting a flu vaccine will not protect against COVID-19, flu vaccines have been shown to reduce the risk of flu illness, hospitalization and death. Flu vaccination could not only reduce your risk from flu, but could also help conserve potentially scarce health care resources. CDC recommends that all people 6 months and older get a yearly flu vaccine. TMC Bonham Hospital is partnering with CVS Pharmacy to offer flu vaccinations at the hospital on Thursday, October 15th from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. To register for this event, visit https://www.cvs.com/vaccine/intake/clinic/covidscreener/covid-qns

TRENTON -- Class 2A Trenton again lacks a luxury this volleyball season that the two 1A teams in its district continue to enjoy. Unlike the 1As, who will again garner two of the three available 1A postseason berths per University Interscholastic League 2A volleyball district, the Lady Tigers have to earn a trip to the 2A playoffs. To do so means competing with five other 2A teams in 16-2A -- for one of only four available 2A postseason berths. Trenton took another step toward its sixth-straight postseason on Oct. 6, completing a home-and-home sweep of 2A Wolfe City. The 3-1 win improved the Lady Tigers’ overall district record to 4-5, which also includes a 16-2A firsthalf win over 2A Sam Rayburn.

Fannindel entered the Class 1A-II Top-10 rankings on Oct. 5, as compiled by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football for the Associated Press. A 5-0 start earned the No. 10 spot for the Falcons who defeated Tyler Willowbend, 47-0, on Oct. 2. Balmorhea (4-1) led the poll, followed by No. 2 Richland Springs (4-0),

No. 3 Motley County (4-1), No. 4 Calvert (3-2), No. 5 Groom (5-1), No. 6 Klondike (6-0), No. 7 Jayton (5-1), No. 8 Follett (6-0), and No. 9 Strawn (4-2). The Oct. 2 win equated Fannindel’s first game since a 74-24 victory over Grayson Christian at Savoy -- ruled a final following a Falcons’ touchdown in the opening seconds of the third quarter -- on Sept. 18.

Previous wins for Fannindel this season include: Aug. 28 at Fruitvale, 45-0; Sept. 3 at home against Campbell, 52-6; and Sept. 11 at home against Leverett’s Chapel, 33-12. Of these games, only the last one went the full four quarters. All have been non-district victories for the Falcons who will start District 101A-II play on Oct. 23 when Forestburg visits.

Box 1027, Windom, Texas 75492, has applied to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to renew Texas Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (TPDES) Permit No. WQ0010666001 (EPA I.D. No. TX0072711) to authorize the discharge of treated wastewater at a volume not to exceed a daily average flow of 32,000 gallons per day. The domestic wastewater treatment facility is located approximately 0.25 mile southwest of the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 1743 and State Highway 56, in Fannin County, Texas 75492. The discharge route is from the plant site to an unnamed tributary of Burnett Creek; thence to Burnett Creek; thence to Bullard Creek; thence to Bios D’Arc Creek; thence to Red River Below Lake Texoma. TCEQ received this application on July 15, 2020. The permit application is available for viewing and copying at Windom City Hall, 406 Main Street, Windom, Texas. This link to an electronic map of the site or facility’s general location is provided as a public courtesy and not part of the application or notice. For the exact location, refer to the application. https://tceq.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=db5bac44afbc468bbddd360f8168250f& marker=-96.006388%2C33.5625&level=12 ADDITIONAL NOTICE. TCEQ’s Executive Director has determined the application is administratively complete and will conduct a technical review of the application. After technical review of the application is complete, the Executive Director may prepare a draft permit and will issue a preliminary decision on the application. Notice of the Application and Preliminary Decision will be published and mailed to those who are on the county-wide mailing list and to those who are on the mailing list for this application. That notice will contain the deadline for submitting public comments. PUBLIC COMMENT / PUBLIC MEETING. You may submit public comments or request a public meeting on this application. The purpose of a public meeting is to provide the opportunity to submit comments or to ask questions about the application. TCEQ will hold a public meeting if the Executive Director determines that there is a significant degree of public interest in the application or if requested by a local legislator. A public meeting is not a contested case hearing. OPPORTUNITY FOR A CONTESTED CASE HEARING. After the deadline for submitting public comments, the Executive Director will consider all timely comments and prepare a response to all relevant and material, or significant public comments. Unless the application is directly referred for a contested case hearing, the response to comments, and the Executive Director’s decision on the application, will be mailed to everyone who submitted public comments and to those persons who are on the mailing list for this application. If comments are received, the mailing will also provide instructions for requesting reconsideration of the Executive Director’s decision and for requesting a contested case hearing. A contested case hearing is a legal proceeding similar to a civil trial in state district court. TO REQUEST A CONTESTED CASE HEARING, YOU MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS IN YOUR REQUEST: your name, address, phone number; applicant’s name and proposed permit number; the location and distance of your property/activities relative to the proposed facility; a specific description of how you would be adversely affected by the facility in a way not common to the general public; a list of all disputed issues of fact that you submit during the comment period and, the statement “[I/we] request a contested case hearing.” If the request for contested case hearing is filed on behalf of a group or association, the request must designate the group’s representative for receiving future correspondence; identify by name and physical address an individual member of the group who would be adversely affected by the proposed facility or activity; provide the information discussed above regarding the affected member’s location and distance from the facility or activity; explain how and why the member would be affected; and explain how the interests the group seeks to protect are relevant to the group’s purpose. Following the close of all applicable comment and request periods, the Executive Director will forward the application and any requests for reconsideration or for a contested case hearing to the TCEQ Commissioners for their consideration at a scheduled Commission meeting. The Commission may only grant a request for a contested case hearing on issues the requestor submitted in their timely comments that were not subsequently withdrawn. If a hearing is granted, the subject of a hearing will be limited to disputed issues of fact or mixed questions of fact and law relating to relevant and material water quality concerns submitted during the comment period. TCEQ may act on an application to renew a permit for discharge of wastewater without providing an opportunity for a contested case hearing if certain criteria are met. MAILING LIST. If you submit public comments, a request for a contested case hearing or a reconsideration of the Executive Director’s decision, you will be added to the mailing list for this specific application to receive future public notices mailed by the Office of the Chief Clerk. In addition, you may request to be placed on: (1) the permanent mailing list for a specific applicant name and permit number; and/or (2) the mailing list for a specific county. If you wish to be placed on the permanent and/or the county mailing list, clearly specify which list(s) and send your request to TCEQ Office of the Chief Clerk at the address below. INFORMATION AVAILABLE ONLINE. For details about the status of the application, visit the Commissioners’ Integrated Database at www.tceq.texas.gov/goto/cid. Ribbon Cutting for Sliters Glory Acres

10/13/20

Press Release - The Honey Grove Chamber of Commerce had the Ribbon cutting on Saturday, August 22, 2020, for Jimmy and Jeanette Sliter’s raw goat milk dairy. They are the nicest people you could meet and the proud owners of Sliters Glory Acres. Jeanette’s grandfather, IB Duck, owned a cow dairy in Buffalo Gap, Texas so this back ground for her helped in

them opening a goat farm. Located 13 minutes north of Honey Grove at 240 David Crockett Trail, Honey Grove Tx 75446. Their phone number is 903-905-0790. They are open Monday-Friday 8AM till 5:00PM and closed on Saturday and Sunday. They are licensed by the State with monthly on-site inspections and testing. DSHS #483219. For those of you that have

not heard of this wonderful place I would highly suggest you pay them a visit. When they bought the place around 12 years ago it was just an old fishing cabin on one acre. They acquired another acre and totally transformed the whole place into a beautiful business. About 8 1/2 years ago they bought two female Alpine Nubian goats that happened to be pregnant. They named them Jingles and Fluffy. They had their first two babies on Christmas Eve. They now have 28 goats and have some really awesome products at great prices. They of course have regular and flavored milk, yogurt that comes in several flavors, goats milk soap, colostrum on request, and the best purified well water you can get. They employ four full-time employees so be sure and say hi to Bryan & Jessie Robinson and Michaella & Josiah Friesen. The place has so much to see and offer I can’t list it all but the Facebook pictures should give you a look at this incredible business. Their motto is “To God Be The Glory”. Do you think a Cardiac Catheterization procedure can be performed through your wrist?

Press Release - This notion holds true, when it comes to advances in Interventional Cardiology. When was it the last time that anyone heard that a Cardiologist can perform a Cardiac Catheterization procedure through a patient’s wrist rather than the groin area? Today, only 5% of Cardiologists in the U.S. can perform Cardiac Catheterization procedure (Cath) through the radial artery in the wrist. This procedure is called Trans radial Catheterization Procedure. So why is a Cardiac Catheterization procedure done? Cardiac Catheterization is a non-surgical procedure, which is done to diagnose Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). Cardiologists do this procedure to evaluate the blood flow to the heart and heart’s pumping ability. In this procedure a thin tube called catheter is inserted in the artery and guided to the heart. A special dye is injected through the

catheter. The x-ray then shows if any of the coronary arteries are blocked. If the arteries are blocked then the Cardiologist may do an angioplasty to open up the blocked arteries by the use of stents. Normally, Cardiologists will do the Cardiac Catheterization procedure by inserting the catheter in the femoral artery in the groin area. But now Cardiologists are beginning to do the Tansradial Catheterization procedure by inserting the catheter in the radial artery of the wrist of the patient. Benefits of Transradial Cath versus Femoral Cath procedure: · In case of a femoral cath procedure at the groin area, there is a slightly higher risk of bleeding at the catheter insertion site after the procedure compared to a radial cath procedure involving the radial artery at the wrist site. · After the Transradial Cath procedure the patient can get up from bed and move around soon

after the procedure while in the case of a femoral cath procedure through the groin area the patient needs to stay still and requires bed rest for at least 6 hours after the procedure. Who is a candidate for Transradial Catheterization Procedure? Most heart patients can have Transradial Catheterization procedure if they pass the Allen Test. In an Allen Test a Cardiologist compresses the ulnar artery for a few minutes and then compares the color of the two hands. Next, the Cardiologist then compresses the radial artery of the patient for a few minutes and compares the two hands again. If the Cardiologist sees that the blood circulates well through the ulnar and radial arteries, the patient is considered clear for the Transradial Cath procedure. What to expect during a Transradial Cath Procedure: During the procedure, you will experience slight burning when

the medication is injected into your radial artery at the wrist. After the procedure a tight band (Hemoband) will be placed just above the injection site. You will be asked to move your arm/ wrist for 2 to 3 hours. After the bleeding stops the band will be removed and you will be sent home with specific instructions on when to return to your normal activities, usually you are back to your normal life in 3 to 4 days. Dr. Khalid Shafiq at Paris Cardiology Center is now offering Transradial Catheterization procedure at the Cath Lab at Paris Cardiology Center Cath Lab (2620 Spur 139, Paris, TX) as an outpatient procedure and at Paris Regional Medical Center. Transradial Catheterization procedure is the evolving trend for most outpatient procedures including diagnostic Cardiac Catheterization procedures and Cardiac Intervention procedures.

Halloween variety show to feature regional talent and haunted location PARIS, Texas — According to stories and legends passed down for decades, the over centuryold Plaza Theatre in Paris, Texas is home to a friendly poltergeist known as Annabelle. Volunteers tell of footsteps and mysterious noises late in the night. Props and tools have been known to disappear, only to reappear minutes later. On Halloween 2020, Paris Community Theatre and Circus Vaudevillian are dedicated to investigating these claims, and are inviting audiences to join them from the comfort of their favorite streaming service. Beyond the hunt for the spirit known as Annabelle, the live stream will be used to feature artists and arts organizations from across North Texas in an event called the All Hallows Eve Extravaganza. “Most businesses are facing severe hardships,” said Circus Vaudevillian Founder Josh Maxwell. “But artists and arts organizations are especially hard hit. According to Americans for the Arts, 60% of an arts organization’s revenue traditionally comes from earned income

such as ticket sales, rather than direct donations. With live events almost impossible, local organizations across the US are facing a crisis. We want to make North Texans aware of some of the great artists and organizations in their own backyard who need their support.” “It’s going to be a fun night,” said Sarah Stogner-Dickinson, Paris Community Theatre’s Artistic Director. “We’ve led haunted theatre tours numerous times and Annabelle usually gets a little more playful around Halloween. Add in the music, comedy, and variety entertainment and it’ll be a great event for the whole family.” Artists and arts organizations interested in participating are encouraged to visit Circus Vaudevillian’s website CircusVaudevillian.com for more information, or contact them via email at contact@ circusvaudevillian.com. The event will stream live on multiple platforms (including Facebook and YouTube) on October 31st, starting at 8:00 PM.

IndieFlix Shines the Light on Anxiety with Must-See Documentary, “ANGST: RAISING AWARENESS AROUND ANXIETY” SEPTEMBER 30, 2020 — IndieFlix, a leading independent online streaming platform, along with its non-profit arm, the IndieFlix Foundation, is sparking a global conversation about anxiety through screenings of its brand-new documentary, “Angst: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety.” On October 19, the Fannin and Grayson County chapters of Texoma Behavioral Health Leadership Team (TBHLT) will hold a special online screening of the documentary via Zoom to open up a dialogue between local families, community leaders and experts. The event will feature a viewing of the 56-minute film, followed by an informative panel discussion, led by Karin Gornick, Emmyaward winning producer and Executive Producer of Angst, with special guests: Vanita Halliburton, Grant Halliburton Foundation; Aileen Hayes, Sherman ISD; Jennifer L. Hughes, PhD, MPH, Center for Depression Research

and Clinical Care at UT Southwestern; Jason Isham, Integrated Behavioral Health at Children’s Health; Krisha Martin, MSSW, LCSW-IPR, TMC Behavioral Health Center; and Grace Thomas, LCDC. Producers Scilla Andreen and Karin Gornick have one goal: to start a global conversation and raise awareness around anxiety. Through candid interviews, they utilize the power of film to tell the stories of many kids and teens who discuss their anxiety and its impacts on their lives and relationships, as well as how they’ve found solutions and hope. The film also includes a special interview with Michael Phelps, a mental health advocate and one of the greatest athletes of all-time. In addition, the documentary provides discussions with mental health experts about the causes of anxiety and its sociological effects, along with the help, resources and tools available to address the condi-

people have with anxiety, it also reveals their hope for the future. Noah, a teenager in the film, describes it this way: “Anxiety doesn’t define me. It’s not just a curse; it also gives me strength.” “Everybody needs to know that anxiety disorders are real, common and treatable instead of viewing them as a personal choice or something to be ashamed of,” said Dr. Jerry Bubrick, Senior Director of Anxiety Disorders Center, Child Mind Institute. “Getting help early is crucial in giving people the tools they need to feel better. We just need to start the conversation.” “We felt it was important to make a movie that could raise awareness to open up the conversation and provide hope,” said Andreen, IndieFlix CEO and “Angst” Producer. “So many people struggle with anxiety and have trouble talking about it. We want to change that.” Anxiety disorders impact 54 percent of females and 46 percent of males, with age seven being the median age of onset, according to the World Health Organization. While anxiety disorders are highly treatable, only one-third of those suffering receive treatment. Everyone involved in the development of “Angst” has a personal experience with anxiety – from the producers to the interviewees. “The conversation surrounding mental health really hits home for me,” said Michael Phelps. “Many people don’t understand how debilitating mental illness truly can be, and even more than that, how common it is, yet people are afraid to have the serious discussions about it. I welcomed the opportunity to be a part of ‘Angst’ to further the dialogue around mental health and to help people understand the impact anxiety has on our mental state and encourage people, especially kids, to ask for help.” “Angst” screens in schools and communities across the world. The IndieFlix original film is expected to reach more than three million people around the world, through 25,000 community and school screenings. Its purpose is to bring together disparate members in conversation and action to improve the delivery of mental health services by chipping away at existing silo delivery and encouraging collaborative efforts that expand mental health service availability and effectiveness. Additionally, the TBHLT seeks to wipe out the stigma of behavioral health issues by talking about them and stressing the widespread and common nature of depression, anxiety, and other conditions. Supported from the start by the Texoma Health Foundation and the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute, the Texoma Behavioral Health Leadership Team meets monthly and believes the development of collaborative relationships leads to understanding, significant change, and impactful improvement in the community’s mental health.

Children's Museum Silent Auction Goes Virtual Fundraiser Celebrates One Year at New Location October 3, 2020 (COMMERCE, TEXAS) – The Northeast Texas Children's Museum will host its first virtual event. This event is a Virtual Auction and bidding will begin on October 12 at 8:00 AM and end on October 17 at 8:00 PM. The 2020 Virtual Silent Auction will reflect the changes created by COVID-19. The social gathering of previous Silent Auctions will be replaced by an online bidding platform. Pictures of each item will replace the hands-on approach of the physical Silent Auction. Friendly, in-person bidding competitors can now bid with a click of a phone, tablet, or computer to update each bid. The Virtual Silent Auction will be sponsored by Charles Schwab of Greenville. "Although we will miss seeing our friends and supporters, there are advantages to the online Silent Auction. We hope to reach bidders who might not live close enough to attend the Silent Auction in Commerce. For some this will be a more convenient way to bid. We will have items displayed at the Children's Museum for anyone who would like to see them," said Becky Adams, cochair of the event. The Virtual Silent Auction will also celebrate one year for the Northeast Texas Children's Museum at 100 Maple Street. "A year ago we were challenged with moving and opening a new building. Now a year later we are challenged with all the changes caused by COVID-19. It has been a tumultuous year for the Children's Museum as well as so many others. The Virtual Silent Auction will hopefully provide funds to meet these challenges," said Beckey Thompson, also co-chair of the event. Bidders at the auction will find all kinds of items for bidding. Handcrafted, one of a kind items, have been

donated by talented local people. Original art work will be available for bidding. Other items will include floral arrangements, furniture, home accents, holiday décor, and jewelry as well as unique experience packages, and much, much more. Children's experiences and items will also be a highlight. The event will be limited to 100 items. Raffle tickets are also on sale for $5.00 each or 5 for $20.00. In addition to purchasing these from a member of the Board of Directors, tickets can be purchased online from the museum's website at netxcm.com. There will be four $250 gift cards given to four different winners. These gifts cards have been donated by Cypress Bank, Inwood Bank, Guaranty Bank and Trust, and Alliance Bank. The drawing will be at 4:00 PM on October 17. The museum is currently open to the public Wednesday through Saturday. Private groups can be scheduled Wednesday through Sunday. If scheduling a private group, no other visitors will be permitted to enter the Children's Museum. Attendance is by reservation only for the morning session from 9:30 to 12:00 or the afternoon session from 1:00 to 4:00. Visitors can reserve their spot online at netxcm.com. Over fifty play areas for young children are open for creative and imaginative play. The Northeast Texas Children's Museum is beginning its eighteenth year of operation. The Children's Museum experienced great success during the first 2 1/2 months of 2020 with over 8,000 visitors. Although the current COVID environment definitely halted this growth, the Children's Museum is looking forward to 2021. For questions, call the Northeast Texas Children's Museum at 903-8866055.

JAMES “JIM” ROBERT MOORE

WILLIAM JOSHUA IDELL

Funeral services for William Joshua Idell, age 31, of Ivanhoe, TX were held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Calvary Baptist Church. Rev. Lyn Holly officiated. Interment followed

Bonham-A memorial service for James “Jim” Robert Moore, age 68, of Windom, TX was held at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 9, 2020 at First United Methodist Church in Bonham, TX. Rev. Dana Coker officiated. Mr. Moore passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at his home with his wife by his side. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home Bonham, TX. Jim was born in Fort Worth and grew up in Arlington, Texas, the youngest of four brothers. Their parents, PawPaw Max, and

Granny Lou, (as they were fondly known by their grandchildren), raised the boys with love, a whole lot of patience, and a firm hand as needed. Jim was not much of an academic scholar, but at a young age was a genius mechanic. Anything with a motor that he could take apart, he could put back together. His first car was a ’58 Chevy, which he constantly worked on, even when it was running perfectly. During high school, his love of streetcar racing began. He was a truck driver for over 20 years and later a diesel mechanic for Graham International. He worked in multiple roles for Galan Murray, serving in various jobs “all things mechanical”. He was genuine, humble, and capable of doing anything needed to build, construct, and help. He moved back to Fannin County in the early 1990’s. He married his favorite wife, Kay, in 2008. Their relationship started with a Christmas party at Graham International, and their love story grew from there. They built a life together in their house in Windom on 25 acres. Jim loved to mow, fish with Kay, and drag race when he was not working on Kay’s “honey-do-list”. He will be especially missed by his greatniece, Alex, who fondly called him “Suckerman”, because he gave dumdum suckers to Alex. He faced the evil of cancer in 2009, and it again reared its ugly head in a strong way in 2017. Since then, he made the most of his time as best he could, as his health and strength allowed. In recent years, he and Kay renewed their 10th year wedding vow, and they went fishing as often as they could. Another joy for him was serving as a crew member for drag racer Keith Hall. Jim and Kay were members of First United Methodist Church of Bonham. Throughout his lengthy treatment, and multiple hospitalizations, he had the nurses and staff treating him as “their favorite”. His sense of humor and his ability to “cut up” even when circumstances were horrific, are both a testimony to his character. He was one of those people who if you ever met him, you never would forget. He was a man of adventure, not constrained by typical conventions. He leaves behind those who loved him deeply. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 12 years, Kay, stepson Adam, and grandson Blake. He is survived by brothers, Ron Moore of Bonham, Chuck Moore and wife April of Arlington, Wayne Moore and wife Brenda of Bonham, and uncles, aunts, nieces, and nephews, too many to name and many friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, many aunts, uncles, and nephews, Chris Moore and Rob Moore. Special thanks to friends, Warren & Janell, Lindsay, Wayne & Brenda, and Heart to Heart Hospice. In lieu of flowers/ plant, please make donations to Children’s Medical Center of Dallas.

Letter to the Editor

You know, when we moved to Fannin County, back in 1992, you could not drive down the road without getting “a wave” by everyone you passed by. Fannin County is a friendly and loving community and always has been. Nowadays though, people do not seem to wave, as much. I don’t know why. Everyone has a lot on their minds and the many new folks moving in, are still learning, “the wave”. However, I drive by a house every day with a dummy sitting on a tractor and waving to all who drives by. It always puts a smile on my face as I wave back, and drive on by. So much so, I decided to get one of my own, a waving dummy, to hopefully put a smile on everyone’s face, as they drive by. My dummy, is a mannequin whose arm does not bend. It is duck taped (just another reason for good ole’ duck tape), up in the air, WAVING. Recently, you may have seen my mannequin on social media, posted by a civil rights attorney from another city and state. This civil rights attorney referenced my mannequin and our business to white supremacy, and terrorism. How can that be legal? He doesn’t know us. WE ARE CHRISTIANS AND WE LOVE EVERYONE. WE ARE NOT WHITE SUPREMACISTS OR TERRORISTS. God Bless You All! The Roof Doctor Tom and Jodi Hunt
