Nearly all the states that surround Texas have adopted this law, and the DNA will go into a national data bank so the chances of finding and prosecuting the criminals are much better. In the state of Louisiana, they take DNA even for speeding. The new Texas law will take DNA for numerous crimes, but not just traffic tickets. From my LiFe to yours: 5/2/17 The Holy Spirit at Work
By Bro. Bill Beasley John 3
It was during the Summer Revival 1949 that the most glorious conversion took place. My wife had been the soloist for the morning service. She had sung “You Must Be Born Again”. When I finished my sermon and extended the invitation she came forward and said to me “Bill, I sang the song, but I have never been born again”. I counseled with her and she received her salvation by faith. I had the privilege of baptizing her near in a pond
Project Will Replace Five Rural Road Bridges in Fannin County PARIS – Texas Department of Transportation officials today announced that work to replace five rural road bridges in Fannin County will begin Oct. 14. Contractor Stateline Construction LLC was granted 218 working days, weather permitting, to complete this project valued at more than $1.3 million. The target date for completion of this project is August 2020, officials said. The contractor will replace bridges at these locations: CR 4250 at Freeman Creek, CR 5060 at Lee Creek, CR 3810 at Loring Creek, CR 5025 at Delba Creek, and CR 4920 at a tributary of Indian Creek. Road closures will be in place during construction at each location, officials said. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and to remain alert and pay special attention to all signs, barricades and traffic controls, and reduce their speed as they approach and travel through any work zone. They should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation sys-
at the Hephzibah Baptist Church. Needless to say I am sure this community will always hold a dear place in my heart. Others were saved, the Holy Spirit was allowed to do His work. The thought for this week is right out of a Jesus conversation with Nicodemus ‘Ye must be born again”. If you have not been, you can be today. One of the things that I remember about the dear people in the rural churches where I did pastoring, they love their church. They serve with simple faith. The

helped us in our growth. One of the needs we have in our church today is for an infilling of the Holy Spirit. The Bible says “Be not filled with wine wherein is excess, but be filled with the Holy Spirit”. Ephesians 5:18 Too often we are powerless because we neglect Him and His strength. Heart of God speaks to us through them. Yes there is the promise of hope in time of our need. There is the promise of help in time of our weakness. Psalms 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want. Psalms 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, signed into law in December 2017, provides significant economic incentives to invest in low-income communities, e.g. Fannin County, and other qualified census tracts throughout Texas and the USA. The economic incentive encourages money investments in three ways: 1. Deferral of tax on capital gains (long term capital gain is a profit on assets sold after at least one year ownership.) An example would be a family farm with a very low cost basis sold to North Texas Municipal Water District. Gains on stock and bonds or other financial assets are also eligible. Deferral of capital gains tax can be achieved if some or all of the original profits are re-invested in a qualified opportunity fund (QOF) within 180 days of the closing on the original sale; and, the election to defer is made with the tax return filing for the year of the sale. In turn, the QOF must invest in the Opportunity Zone (OZ), under strict guidelines. 2. A subsequent step-up in 1st East Side Street (Hwy 34) Honey Grove, TX -Potential building site, lots 6 & 7 block 23................$10,000 1007 Legend Avenue - Bonham (lot 20) located in Legacy Ridge Country Club.........................................$28,000

basis for some capital gains. (A step-up in basis allows the asset cost to be brought up to the fair market value of the sale, effectively negating any income tax on the transaction.) If the deferral is properly executed then 10% or 15% of the gain can be permanently eliminated through the step-up in basis, meaning no profit would ever be realized on that portion. 3. And finally an exclusion of all income taxes on the capital gains from the QOF if the investment in the community continues for at least 10 years. The original capital gains investment would then be taxed on termination of the QOF, but there would be no tax on the profits from the investment in the QOF. This legislation, which ends in December 2026, motivates private capital to invest long term in the most needed areas for jobs and income in the US. Potential investors can realize a synergistic benefit when combining this tax law with opportunities associated with the two new reservoirs in Fannin County. What happens if the project goes over budget? County Judge Carter stated that “I don’t anticipate that happening……..in an emergency situation, commissioners could possibly look to THC for an additional $560,000, which would bring THC’s total contribution to $6,000,000 to this project, the maximum allowed under this program. The other option would be to dip into the county’s reserves. (16 January, 2016) How long would it take to complete restoration of the Fannin County Courthouse? Carter said restoration of this historic structure would require at least three years. This would be a lengthy and complicated process.” “It could take four years,” Carter stated. (16 January, 2016). Judge Carter was correct about one thing: this project was going to be a complicated process……. A self-inflicted burden which could have been avoided by awarding the project in its entirety to a General Contractor who specialized in historical building restorations as opposed to awarding the project in “piece-meal” (multiple phases) to multiple contractors. What is most disturbing is that the Commissioners Court had a choice…..they knew before going into this venture that the project was going to be complicated……..but yet the Commissioners Court led the people to believe that they were best qualified to administer and manage the project………the results has been a serious misjudgment of their abilities. It may be assumed that the intent was for political purposes. Politicizing the project prevented the project from being awarded to a General Contractor as it should have. In-house management of these immense responsibilities could not be sustained after the first stone veneer panel was removed. After two years (+/-) of failure in managing the project the Commissioners Court decided that it was time to employ the services of a professional project manager
(Turner Construction)……… with no vested interest in the project. The Commissioners Court should have considered amending the construction period services of the Architect of Record to include project management on behalf of Fannin County. Who knows the design/construction documents better than the architect who does have a vested interest in this project; their professional reputation is at stake? Mismanagement blunders and unforeseen site conditions have plagued the restoration project from the very beginning because of misguidance and the lack of “in house” experience. Not anticipating the project from going over budget was a fatal mistake. Not anticipating unforeseen site conditions was a fatal mistake……..not including contingency funds for unforeseen site conditions change orders was a fatal mistake. Three (+) years later the restoration completion cost is estimated at $25,669,841.77 ($26,000,000), $7,659,450.18 ($8,000,000) over the original budget because the unanticipated was not anticipated. Writing a negative article is not by any means a pleasure especially on such an important project as the courthouse restoration project. Articles like this don’t get the job done……………but an article like this may help prevent the problem from reoccurring in future projects. Maybe these articles will help citizens understand the gravity of electing candidates that are qualified to manage the business of their county; candidates that have the good sense not to engage in managing matters they are not qualified for………..……as with the “restoration project”. FCL dtd 8-27-19: According to Commissioner Lackey the Texas Historical Commission (THC) states that (quote): they are just praying we finish the thing (unquote). That same Commissioner states (quote) I don’t care if the inside is finished or not (unquote)……… no wonder THC is praying that the restoration project gets finished when they read comments as such from an elected

official in or out of context. Commissioner Lackey stated that “I have never laid eyes on a timeline”. Figurative speaking a schedule and timeline is fundamentally one in the same…….the distance between start and completion is a “timeline”. Is Commissioner Lackey not the “mouthpiece” that represents the people of Fannin County and manages communication between the principles, i.e. COUNTY CONTACT? Some folks may say: you’ve got to keep a positive attitude and they are absolutely right……it’s the only way this project is going to be completed………however; it was no fault of the citizens that the Commissioners Court went into this venture unprepared and unqualified. How are citizens expected to maintain a positive attitude when an elected official states that he does not care “if the inside gets finished or not”? Well…….the citizens of Fannin County care; there is a great deal at stake: commerce; light industry jobs; expansion of “mom & pop” businesses; visitors; and tourism, and for the simple enjoyment of the people of Fannin County. The blunders of the Commissioners Court can be resolved by the people at the ballot box. VIVA FANNIN COUNTY.

From antiques to bistro chefs, clowns to western boots, clothing to furniture…even statues of the Blues Brothers. The Junksters has it all. And the prices are nothing to laugh about. Healthy aging starts with your cells. One way to keep cells healthy is to give them what they need to function properly—from the inside out. And one of the most important ways of doing that is with a coenzyme called nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD). Scientists say all human cells naturally produce and use NAD to maintain healthy mitochondrial function—an important
component of healthy human aging. Over time, however, the body’s supply of NAD starts to decrease. Recently, a scientific breakthrough by Dr. Charles Brenner, at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, isolated nicotinamide riboside (NR), a supernutrient thought to be key to boosting NAD.

Don’t go to a nursing home; hire us and stay in your own home! found that NR could increase NAD in mice and that those mice experienced many health benefits such as improved blood sugar levels and cholesterol levels, reduced nerve damage and resistance to weight gain. Dr. Brenner found that when NR gets to work in the cell, it helps form NAD and gives sirtuins—the cellular repair−promoting proteins—a “pep talk,” to work overtime so
cells stay strong.
10/15/19 Studies are under way on the
positive effects of NAD levels on other age-related health problems including fatty liver disease, weight gain, insulin levels and brain function. To live your best life, it would seem, you should think cellular. To learn more, visit www. aboutnad.com.
In the early 2000s, a Dartmouth College research team discovered NR was not only an effective way to increase NAD, but to improve health in general. The team, led by Dr. Brenner,

Good Ideas On Aging Well (NAPSI)—May is Older Americans Month! Staying connected to the community is a key ingredient to healthy and successful aging. But for many older adults, staying connected can be difficult. Fortunately, older adults and their caregivers can contact the Elder-
care Locator to learn about local programs and resources that can help them stay engaged and active in their communities. Programs funded through the Older Americans Act provide older adults with many ways to stay active and involved in the community. For example, exercise classes, educational programs, volunteer opportunities and other health and wellness activities are available to older adults in communities around the country. Need more help than that?
The Eldercare Locator can also connect you to local resources designed to help older adults maintain their independence at home, such as transportation, in-home assistance with daily needs, home modifications and assistance with healthy meals. The Eldercare Locator is a
free service of the U.S. Administration for Community Living that is administered through the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging. Contact the Eldercare Locator at (800) 677-1116, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday and online at eldercare.acl.gov.

Two New $1 Million Research Grants Focus on Metastasis of Melanoma
The American Cancer Society (ACS) and Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA) have selected two new promising projects in a second round of funding under a partnership between ACS & MRA. The first grants funded through the partnership, in 2018, focused on advancing research to reduce side effects resulting from cancer treatments with immunecheckpoint inhibitors. This year’s grants will support two interdisciplinary teams to
better understand and manage metastasis of melanoma and other types of cancer. The new grants, each funded at $1 million total, will go to teams led by Michael A. Davies, M.D., Ph.D., at University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and Eva Hernando, Ph.D., at New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Davies will lead a team that brings together investigators from various specialties, and from two of the largest melanoma centers in the world (MD Anderson and Melanoma Institute Australia). The team will explore whether molecular and immune features of individual melanomas can predict which patients will develop central nervous system metastases. They will
also test an experimental new treatment for brain metastases, IACS-010759, which is currently in clinical trials. The team will determine whether the drug can improve survival in combination with FDA-approved targeted therapies. The team will also test the drug in patients with other cancers (i.e. lung cancer, breast cancer), to see if it can improve treatments used for brain metastases from those diseases. Dr. Hernando and her team will investigate the role of amyloid beta in brain metastasis. Dr. Hernando’s lab has analyzed the protein content of melanoma that had spread to the brain, and found, surprisingly, elevated rates of Amyloid Processing Protein (AAP), the same protein that plays a central
role in the development of Alzheimer’s disease. The team will investigate how APP, which generates amyloid beta, influences melanoma growth within the brain microenvironment; determine the therapeutic potential of targeting APP using antibodies and compounds that have already being tested clinically in Alzheimer’s patients; and assess if APP is required for brain metastasis of other tumors, such as lung and breast cancers. The grants are funded under a joint agreement between Melanoma Research Alliance and the American Cancer Society that began in 2018. Each organization will contribute $1 million to support the two teams over three years. By combining funding and networks, the
groups can help deliver breakthroughs faster. The new multiyear grants go into effect January 1, 2020. “This is a serious area of unmet medical need. In fact, almost 40% of patients with metastatic melanoma already have detectible brains metastases at diagnosis,” says Melanoma Research Alliance President & CEO Michael Kaplan. “Further research is desperately needed to better understand the unique biological features that facilitate the spread of melanoma to the brain and support the growth of metastatic cells once there. Moreover, identifying markers that predict metastatic spread as well as potential new treatments for brain metastases are essential for improving outcomes for
patients.” “For melanoma patients, the spread of metastases to the lungs, liver, and brain is a serious and often deadly result,” said William Phelps, Ph.D., senior vice president of Extramural Research for the American Cancer Society. “Being able to prevent metastasis or treat metastatic tumors in patients with melanoma would be a crucial development and could save many lives from this aggressive form of cancer. These two teams of investigators will take advantage of recent rapid growth in our knowledge about cancer spread to explore new treatment options for late stage melanoma.” For more information about the partnership, please visit www.cancer.org/MRA.
American Cancer Society Launches New Campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
/PRNewswire/ -- The American Cancer Society (ACS) is teaming up with celebrity ambassadors this month to encourage their families, friends, fans and followers alike to “Get #YOUnited” in the fight against breast cancer by purchasing celebrity designed merchandise and giving donations. With this new campaign,
ACS has engaged notable pop culture figures to become ambassadors in championing this fight, such as mega producer DJ Khaled, multi-platinum artist, global philanthropist French Montana, three-time Grammy nominated artist Jhenè Aiko, and singer and actress, Kristin Chenoweth. While hundreds of thousands
of ACS’ “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” participants will be rallying in their local communities throughout the month of October, these key influencers will leverage their celebrity platform to promote the “YOUnited” theme on social media – joining ACS’ collective national movement to raise awareness and funds

To support the campaign’s mission, each celebrity ambassador and pairing took part in a “Get #YOUnited” compelling PSA and designed an exclusive team T-shirt in support of breast cancer patients, survivors, and those affected by the disease. Strides Against Breast Cancer walk events near them to further support the cause. Khaled, Montana, Aiko and Chenoweth have all been affected by cancer. Leading this national movement is a priority for them to use their influence and platform to activate fans to team up and get #YOUnited to help eradicate breast cancer. “I met my friend, Nalie, several years ago when she was battling cancer and did the dance challenge to UNFORGETTABLE. She’s an inspiration to me, always positive and always smiling,” said Montana. “That’s why ‘Thriver’ best describes her. This is my gift to her and the others out there living with breast cancer.” “I’ve been very open about the important people in my life that have been affected
by breast cancer. My mom has survived it several times, my aunt is a survivor and several close friends of mine went through their cancer journey,” said Chenoweth. “Anytime I can support those in this fight I will. This is something very important to me.” The “Get #YOUnited” campaign officially launches marking the kickoff of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Letter to the Editor
Dry - Docked at Lake Bonham I would personally like to congratulate the City of Bonham for the new dock they had built at the lake. Only one problem, it’s not useable now that the lake level has dropped. It’s just like the fishing pier next to it. From a boat to the walkway on the pier is about 3½ to 4 feet. Seniors and handicap persons can’t use it at all. Also it doesn’t extend far enough out because boats that do try to
pull up to it hit bottom. It’s useless. I spoke with a man who just built a floating dock that’s longer and wider and he spent $8500. I’ve heard the dock we got cost more and can’t be used by the people who need it most. I’m a fit 70 year old but can’t climb up the dock. Guess I’ll have to wait till we have some big rains before I can take my boat out fishing again. The old floating dock
Blessing of Animals
Woof! A message from Father Rob and Diana’s dogs, Annabella and Fiona: “Wow! We get to come to the Blessing of Animals Celebration on Saturday, October 19th, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in the parking lot at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 7th and Star Streets in Bonham. We’ll try not to get excited and bark. We are usually pretty good, so come and join us and our folks. There is also a Bake Sale in the Parish Hall right by the Blessing of Animals.” Father Rob tells us that, “At a previous Blessing of Animals he heard an unfamiliar sound, a high-pitched scratching or chittering from somewhere in the congregation. At first he couldn’t make it out. It sounded like someone, a very little someone, scratching on his cage. When he moved closer he recognized that the sound came from a small bag hanging around a young lady’s neck. At the Blessing of Animals he was able to peer down to the bottom of the bag. It was our friend, the sugar glider, sounding the alarm. No doubt, if he were a sugar glider he’d be sounding the alarm too. There were a lot of “threatening” animals around. All kinds of animals, horses, and dogs, and cats, and even little sugar gliders; all animals big and very small, are welcome at the Blessings of Animals” At the Blessing of Animals the Church declares, “Little children love one another, love all things, love the little animals and great, and bless God’s creation.” And so we bless the animals with the true love of God, who is our steadfast love wrapped around us; a fire in our hearts and minds. Why not? Christ the Lord became one of us to redeem us from our many sins, and to remake us in his image; he who is the Son of God the Father loves all that he has made; every last savage among us, and tells us that the wolf shall lie down with the lamb. did need replacing but not with something that can’t be used and is just like the fishing dock you already have. Somebody didn’t think this out. Sincerly, Walter Reed Bonham, TX

AMY ALLYSON CARSON Amy Allyson Carson, 55, of Bonham, Texas passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2019 in Dallas, Texas after a brief illness. Amy was born August 18, 1964 to Raymond and Alexis Clark in Lawrence, Kansas. In the words of her mother, “Amy was born to two twenty-year-olds, so it’s not an exaggeration to say we grew up together.” She spent her early years in eastern Kansas with her parents and three younger siblings Maggie (Robert), Beca, and David (Michelle). She graduated from Olathe North High School in 1982. As a young adult she had the opportunity to live in various states as a military wife before moving to Texas in 1995. Amy met her husband, Thomas Carson, in Bonham. They wed on June 6, 1997 in the living room of her parents, surrounded by their children, family, and closest friends. They lived the majority of their marriage in the community of Carson before moving to Bonham in 2012. Amy was the mother of six children: Cathy Huebner (Greg), Lucas Templer (Amy), Nicholas Templer (Rachel), Casey Holly (Josh), William Carson (Ashlund), and Jacob Carson. From her children she became a Mimi to her thirteen favorite people, her grandchildren Amelia, Stella, Serenity, Rylie, Scarlett, Zoe, Mason, Lila, Samuel, Monique, Tessa, Melvin, and Charlie plus two who are to arrive this month, Eleanor and Matilda. Professionally she worked as an office manager, most recently at VPG with her closest friend Shelia, where her work family meant so much to her. She was seen as a second mother to many of “her guys.” The biggest joy in Amy’s life was her family. She spent all her days ensuring every person around her had their needs and wants met. She lived to love people well. Amy is survived by every person she loved; her husband, parents, children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends, who will all miss her dearly. A private service for family and friends will be held in the coming week. In lieu of flowers and gifts, Amy’s wish was for donations to be made to her favorite charity, The Isaiah Closet, Inc.

By Rich Hilliard Former Trenton cross country coach John Orozco received a letter years after the Tigers won the Class 1A boys state championship in 1999. It came from a former runner from another North Texas high school. “I wanted to let you know that one of your runners I ran against did something unusual,” recounted Orozco regarding the content of the letter. “I was struggling and your runner came from behind me. We were in the last mile and he told me: “You can do this.” I was at my breaking point. That did so much for me. I [finished and] got to move on [to the next round]. It spoke highly of the type of runners you had.” Orozco revealed that former Trenton runner praised by the competitor was Robert Verde -- whose finish 20 years ago as a Trenton junior at Round Rock led the Tigers to a state title. “They were just a good group of kids,” said Orozco. Trenton, which had qualified for the four-consecutive previous 1A State boys meets -- finishing 5th in 1995-97 and 3rd in 1998 -- won in 1999 with
66 points -- 53 ahead of secondplace Henrietta Midway. “We had had teams with individuals who were top runners before and felt like we had championship calibur teams, but finished 3rd or 5th at State,” said Orozco. “We had a few younger runners [that year] and some more with experience with success and who knew what it took. “They may not have been the top runners on any of the teams, but they knew what it took to get there and kept working hard,” he said. “We never did anything different or any major extra preparation. They put the extra into what they did, knew what it took for an individual and team to get to the next level and saw what they were able to do. “Things fell right at the right time and they were able to surprise themselves.” Junior Robert Verde’s 6thplace finish led the Tigers, earning one of eight bronze medals awarded that year at State. Other Trenton team members and their finishes included senior Trevor Presley, 19th; junior Erik Ruble, 23rd; sophomore Robert Powers, 32nd; sophomore Jose Verde, 44th; sophomore Keith Griffin,

Class 1A Dodd City rose two spots to No. 8 on Oct. 7 in the 1A-2A poll by the Texas Girls Coaches Association. Class 2A Crawford remainded atop the 1A-2A poll which also included No. 11 Collinsville of District 11-2A. Bushland continued to lead the
3A rankings where the bottom half of the poll remained heavily populated by Region II-3A teams: No. 13 Van Alstyne (103A), No. 15 Commerce (13-3A), No. 17 Pattonville Prairiland (13-3A), No. 21 Gunter (9-3A), No. 22 Mount Vernon (13-3A), No. 23 Elysian Fields (15-3A), No. 24 Edgewood (12-3A) and No. 25 New Boston (14-3A).

61st; and senior Ruben Verde, 78th. Team scores at cross country meets equate adding up the ordinal place finishes of the Top 5 runners per squad. The removal of runners who qualified individually from other schools for the State meet improved the ordinal finish of each Tiger runner from the aforementioned -- and thus aided Trenton to the championship. “All took it up a notch and just believed,” said Orozco. “To see it, you have to look back on it and see it all come together for the end result,” he said. “You can’t see it until it’s over. You couldn’t point it out at that moment. “But once it had happened, all the pieces of the puzzle fit together.” Now the Homeless Liaison for Tom Bean Independent School District, Orozco has helped run cross country meets at Trenton ISD the last couple of years. “I’m excited to see teams afterward at Trenton carry on the tradition,” said Orozco. “I’m glad to see those guys know they have the opportunity to lay a foundation,” he said. “To see them carry on the tradition is exciting.”
