maintenance were $57,000 and as expected, the water/sewer fund missed the budget revenue by 7% due to the average billing during the water-meter change out. He further stated the 2020 audit is expected to be presented by the December meeting. Councilman Wayne Moore made the motion to accept with Councilman Michael Evans seconding the motion. Motion passed. 3. Citizens Opportunity to Speak: (The City Council invites persons with comments or observations to briefly address the Council for the limited purpose of determining whether the matter should be referred to staff for study and response and/or be placed on a future meeting agenda. State laws prohibits the City Council from considering deliberations on any item not listed on the posted City Council Agenda.): A citizen of Bonham spoke to raise a concern of people parking vehicles on sidewalks and the negligence of the City to do anything about a property on Maple and 10th that is unsightly and fostering a health hazard of rodents residing among the debris. Another citizen of Bonham spoke to protest the implementation of the creation of one-way street traffic noted in Item 7 on the meeting’s agenda. 4. Consider and take action to ratify and accept the fiscal year 2020-2021 BEDCo operating budget as approved by the Bonham Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors: City Manager Sean Pate touched on a few highlights in the absence of BEDCo’s representative Steve Filipowicz. He noted how their budget unanimously passed at their previous meeting; commended them on their commitment to the city with their covering a third of the cost of the new website design for the city; commented on the money they are putting into the Event Center and Tongrun International and their continued support of the City’s marketing department through the visitor’s center. us. I remember praying audibly for peace in my heart. And God answered my prayer with the warmth of his presence. He knew our needs, He walked with us. He had promised never to leave me nor forsake me. He was faithful and peace seemed to envelop my whole being. The passage of Scripture where the Risen Christ walks with His disciples on the road to Emmaus is better understood in the light of his experience.

Bonham, TX I close the article this week by recalling to mind a hymn that I have loved since a lad! The people of Providence Methodist Church in Mississippi used to sing it often. The lines mention “Walking with the Lord” When we walk with the Lord In the light of His word What a glory He sheds on our way. When we do His good will He abides with us still. When we trust and obey. Let us take courage from his walking with us. “Those who walk with God always reach their destination”

7. Discussion and presentation with Freese and Nichols, Inc. regarding Fannin County water study for Fannin County: Associate/Account Director, Stanford W. Lynch, P.E. with Freese and Nichols, gave a slide presentation regarding the water study involving a Regional Water Plan for Fannin County. He started with a history of the Regional Planning Process beginning with how Senate Bill 1 was voted on during the 75th Texas Legislature (1997) in response to intense drought conditions in the 1990s. It was after that time the Texas Water Development Board established 16 regional water planning areas with Fannin County falling in the Region C area. He explained how the state goes through the process of developing/ redeveloping water plans every five years for all of Texas by gathering and analyzing data; identifying existing and future water needs; evaluate current water supply and potential shortages in the future; develop water management strategies; recommend water projects to the state level. He explained their company does not implement projects, nor do they issue or modify groundwater production permits or issue surface water rights permits (TCEQ does that at the state level.) He explained where Fannin County’s water comes from, where it is used, where the water supply is and noted shortages existing in Fannin County and other parts of Texas. He explained the reason for his presentation was to address what the future water needs of Fannin County might be and what Fannin County can do to be proactive in addressing future shortages. He described water management strategies; touched on a possible future water treatment pump station in Leonard that could be used to provide water around 2030 to Fannin County; named some of the water supply entities existing in Fannin County today noting that NTMWD as the largest and concluded his presentation by saying the next step would be identifying with the county what is needed to create a Fannin County Water Supply Project Plan. In response to a question raised as to how soon the process can begin to develop a water supply plan, Mr. Lynch responded that as soon as there is a contract signed and ready to go,
Lynch stated his company is willing to compete with any other company to handle this plan for Fannin County. 8. Discussion and presentation regarding Texas A&M AgriLife Extension 4-H and Youth Development Program: Extension Agent, Jessica Richards with Texas A&M Agrilife Extension, thanked the Court for their support and introduced some of the participants in the 4-H and Youth Development Programs who recently competed in the County Fair and many other competitions. The first to speak was Kayla King who spoke on her interest in nutrition, sewing, and the projects, activities she has been involved with. Following Kayla was Caleb Arris who explained how he was the State Council Member for 4-H and described the events/competitions and projects he has been involved with and what a learning experience 4-H has been for him. Next, after Caleb was Carson Arris who stated he is the Health Youth Ambassador for the State of Texas and explained how part of his duties is to help educate children on how to be healthier. He noted the meritorious organizations he has been involved with (Feeding Fannin, children centers) and said overall 4-H has helped him to implement healthy ideas for his community. The 4-H Vice President and Fannin County Counsel President, Austin Newman, was last to speak and listed multiple awards and placements he won at the Fannin County Fair and other competitions. He seemed most proud of his Intermediate Herdsman Award and Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Hereford wins. He also listed a 1st Place win along with 4 Blue Ribbons, a Best of Show, and an Honorable Mention for his photography along with a 1st Place win for a Lego Build. After enthusiastic applause for the accomplishments of these young people with 4-H, a photo was taken of them with the Commissioners Court. 9. Discussion and report regarding Indigent Healthcare for September 2021: Fannin County Indigent Healthcare Director Mark DeMay, gave his report of the number of inbound calls, outbound calls, and in office appointments. He noted 14 people applied for care with 2 having been approved, 3 pending, and 9 were denied but referred to other programs they qualify for. As

903-623-0025 far as patient activity, there were 2 new patients, 4 renewals, 4 came off the program and the total active patient count was 22. Two people came off the program with one person qualifying for disability and 1 being removed from the program for non-compliance. In the claim category, there were 51 indigent claims paid at $11,021.52; 7 inmate claims at $1,722.06. Mr. DeMay noted how this amount was less than half of what was paid out in August and stated there is a downward trend as patients are getting healthy and going back to work. He further stated were over 20 medical conditions treated and 49 prescriptions filled. In the accomplishments category, on September 2nd, he met with Bill Wilson of the Behavioral Health Leadership Team to discuss options and resources for the Indigent as Indigent Care does not pay for mental health. Mark commented on Loren Hervey with TCC being a resource for Indigent Care. He noted that he is aware of and appreciates the services they provide and has referred some patients there, however he thought the community should be aware that because TCC has a contract with the state and Medicaid if you do not have Medicaid, you will most likely be placed on a waiting list and could be there for a long time. After receiving complaints from his patients, he said he did some research and discovered Child and Family Guidance Services in Sherman, has a grant and can take care of mental health services for Fannin County residents for free with no waiting list regardless of insurance or ability to pay. On September 9th he met with two other medical providers, and on September 29 met with the manager of Carevide. In conclusion, he was happy to note more providers are accepting indigent care patients. 10. Discussion, consideration, and action to approve Treasurer’s Financial Report for September 2021: Fannin County Treasurer David Woodson gave the Financial Report for September noting the total receipts had been $770,313.51. A motion was made, seconded, and passed to approve the report. 11. Discussion, consideration, and action to approve Treasurer’s Investment Report for September 2021: David Woodson also gave the Investment Report noting interest amounts received on the various county accounts. A motion was

made, seconded, and passed to accept the Report. 12. Discussion and report of monies collected by Justice of the Peace Precinct 3 office for September 2021; $6,385.00: No action needed. 13. Discussion, consideration, and action to approve a one-time severance of 2.789 acres from a 7.336-acre tract on S. Main in Ravenna: Fannin County Development Services Director Di Hopkins gave a report of everything in order for this action to be ap-
proved. A motion was made 5/19/15 Lane, by Commissioner seconded by Commissioner Self, and passed to approve. 15. Discussion, consideration, and action to award the culvert bid to Wilson Culverts: Fannin County Purchasing Agent Michelle Case explained how this was the only culvert bid that was received despite advertising for bids. A motion was made by Commissioner Lane, Seconded by Commissioner Self, and passed. 16. Discussion, consideration, and action to approve payment of bills: Sherry with the Fannin County Auditor’s office noted that the District Court’s office is over their budget by $70,000.00 with more attorney vouchers not yet received. After some discussion, a motion was made,
seconded, and passed to approve the payment of bills. 17. Public Forum: A citizen of Ravenna gave a detailed reason why he speaks out against the vaccines and asked anyone wishing to receive information to e-mail him at TheVoiceofFanninCounty@gmail.com. The next speaker also from Ravenna, asked anyone having had adverse reactions from the vaccine to e-mail her at the same email address. After she spoke Commissioner Magness gave the Covid stats as of 11:55 a.m. yesterday as: 63 active cases, 139 Fatalities and a 12% Hospitalization Rate. Continued

Sunday Morning Re-take
Hello everyone! What a wonderful service we had in God’s house Sunday morning! The spirit and fellowship were beautiful! Thank you to our guests for coming and presenting their work on the mission field. This reminds us of what the Lord commands of us in Matthew 28:18-20. “And Jesus came and spake unto them, “All Power is
given unto me in Heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.” Amen.” My hymn reference for this week’s message was written
by a man who had a very intense interest in missions, Daniel March. Hark, the voice of Jesus crying, “Who will go and work today? Fields are ripe and harvests waiting; Who will bear the sheaves away?” Long and loud the Master calls us, rich reward He offers free; who will answer, gladly saying, “Here am I, send me, send me”? Let none hear you idly saying, “There is nothing I can do,” while the lost of earth are dying, and the Master calls for you; take the task He gives you gladly; let His work your pleasure be; answer quickly when He calls you, “Here am I, send me, send me.” If you are looking for a good church home, we would be honored to have you come and visit us here at Central Baptist Church! We hope to see you this coming Lord’s day! Josh Stevenson Central Baptist Church Bonham, TX https://www.facebook.com/ cbcfannin

TxDOT’s “Drive Sober. No Regrets.” campaign urges Texans to celebrate fall football season without driving under the influence Oct. 8, 2021
driving facts can be 2/16/21 found at www.facesofdrunkdriving. com. The Drive Sober. No Regrets. campaign is a key component of #EndTheStreakTX, a broader social media and word-of-mouth effort that encourages drivers to make safer choices while behind the wheel, like wearing a seat belt, driving the speed limit, never texting and driving and never driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. November 7, 2000, was the last deathless day on Texas roadways. #EndTheStreakTX asks all Texans to commit to driving safely to help end the streak of daily deaths on Texas roadways.

AUSTIN – Football is a huge part of Texas culture, and with the new season upon us, TxDOT’s Drive Sober. No Regrets. Statewide Impaired Driving Campaign is encouraging fans to celebrate responsibly by always finding a sober ride. “Fall football is a timehonored tradition in our state, but one regrettable decision to drink and drive could turn game day into a jail time or a deadly crash,” said TxDOT Executive Director Marc Williams. ”Whether fans are tailgating with friends or celebrating their team’s big win, we want everyone to enjoy the season responsibly.” A person in Texas dies every nine hours and six minutes in a DUI-alcoholrelated traffic crash. Last year, 963 people in Texas were killed and 2,114 seriously injured because someone chose to get behind the wheel while
impaired. Drinking and driving is 100-percent preventable and can have serious physical, emotional and financial consequences that can last for years. Not only can a DWI hurt or kill someone, it can be expensive and cause legal hassles. It can create difficulty finding or keeping a job. It is shameful and embarrassing, and can result in a loss of trust and regret. A DWI crash can devastate the lives of victims and survivors forever. There are many sober ride options available. Designate a sober driver, call a taxi, use a rideshare service, stay put, call a friend or family member or use mass transit to ensure you don’t drive impaired. Throughout the fall, TxDOT’s Drive Sober. No Regrets. campaign will conduct outreach events at college campuses across the state in conjunction with football season. These events will include a video exhibit, featuring video testimonials of Texans who deal with the daily consequences of drunk driving, either as an offender or survivor. These powerful stories and drunk

18. Comments by County Commissioners and County Judge: Commissioner Lane said she hopes everyone had a great time at the Fair, congratulated all the kids who won, and reminisced of when her daughter won a prize for a picture with her cat at the Fair when
she was eight years old. She reminded all about this Saturday being a Great Day of Service, encouraged participation, and hopes everyone stays dry. Commissioner Self said he appreciated the 4-H kids coming out to tell their stories, was glad for a good turn out at the Fair, commented on the Burn Ban being lifted, noted the rain may delay some projects this week, and wished all a good week. sioner Lackey commented on a bad storm that brought down about 60 trees and said that even with the crew working all day Monday (on a Holiday) CR 2945 is still blocked due to the downed trees blocking the road. He noted several barns that were demolished in some areas. He hopes to have all the trees off the roads by this afternoon and commented on the problem of not receiving enough money to adequately maintain the roads, specifically noting the high cost of culverts and all the steady costs increases. He thanked all for coming. Commissioner Magness agreed with Commissioner Lackey on the problem of the high costs of culverts, maintenance of machinery, and the ever-increasing cost of fuel. He commented on the Fair and how the 4-H kids will be the leaders of tomorrow. He hoped everyone enjoyed Commissioners Court today and invited everyone back next week. 19. Adjourn: Motion was made, seconded, and passed to adjourn at 10:26 a.m.

Invasive Silver Carp Found in Texas Waters; 9/17/19 Anglers Urged to Prevent Bait Bucket Transfers
AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) received a report in late June that an invasive silver carp had been spotted in Choctaw Creek, a Texas tributary of the Red River approximately 15 miles downstream from Lake Texoma. A bow angler, Stephen Banaszak, first reported the finding and two specimens were provided to TPWD and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) who confirmed they were silver carp. “These are the first reports of silver carp from Texas waters, although they have previously been found in other areas of the Red River including just downstream from Lake Texoma in Oklahoma waters in 2019,” said Dan Bennett, TPWD fisheries management biologist. “Invasive carp pose a significant risk to Lake Texoma’s ecosystem and boaters and there is adequate flow and upstream river area for them to become established and reproduce in the lake if introduced.” Previously, bighead carp, another closely related invasive species, had been documented in the Red River and tributaries downstream of Lake Texoma. In addition, bighead carp were documented in the Sulphur River downstream of Lake Wright Patman and Big Cypress Bayou downstream of Lake O’ the Pines. To prevent the spread of these invasive species, which look much like shad when small, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission passed regulations making it
illegal to transport any live nongame fish from these water bodies. Anglers are urged to follow these rules to prevent introducing these species to other water bodies when using them as bait. “These invasive carp are not native to the U.S. but have been introduced and become established and problematic in numerous states, primarily in the Mississippi River Basin. Both of these invasive carp species are filter feeders and have the potential to cause significant changes in native fish populations by competing with other filter feeding fish species such as shad and buffalo, and even larval sportfish that also rely on plankton as a food source in their first couple of months,” said Monica McGarrity, TPWD Senior Scientist for Aquatic Invasive Species. “Silver carp can also pose a risk to humans, as they can jump up to 10 feet out of the water when startled by the sounds of watercraft, often jumping into boats, sometimes injuring boaters. When present in large numbers, jumping silver carp can be a significant hazard.” Young silver and bighead carp are similar in appearance to shad but can be identified by their low-set eyes—shad’s eyes are located near the top of their heads—and the lack of a long, whip-like segment on the dorsal fin. Silver and bighead carp are also similar in appearance to each other, but silver carp have silver, rather than gray, bodies and a ‘keel’ or ridge that runs the length of the belly from the anal
fin all the way to the throat, whereas the keel on bighead carp stops at the pelvic fin. Both species can grow quite large, with silver carp reaching approximately 3 feet in length and nearly 60 pounds and bighead carp reaching up to 4 and a half feet in length and nearly 90 pounds. Both species are easily confused with shad or even minnows when small. TPWD, in collaboration with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, and USFWS, is currently working with researchers at Texas Tech University and Auburn University to conduct research on invasive carp. The project will assess the population status and distribution of bighead carp and silver carp across the Red River Basin, including the Red River downstream of Lake Texoma and the Sulphur River, a major Red River tributary, downstream of Lake Wright Patman. The project will also collect baseline data on native fish populations that may be negatively impacted by the invasive carp. Anyone who catches either silver or bighead carp in Texas waters is asked to report the sighting with location information and photos to AquaticInvasives@tpwd. texas.gov. Silver and bighead carp are prohibited exotic species in Texas and must be killed upon possession by beheading, gutting, gill-cutting or other means or placed on ice. Neither species can be possessed live.
VALLEY VIEW – Ray Roberts Lake State Park is excited to announce the grand opening of a new Nature Center at the Johnson Branch of the park Saturday, October 9. “We are all very excited to open the new Nature Center to the public at last,” said Robbie Merritt, Park Superintendent. “This facility is the result of many years of vision and dedicated work by numerous park staff, volunteers, partner organizations, and private donors that have made it all possible. It will significantly enhance our public services at Johnson Branch.” In addition to the Nature Center tours, the park will host numerous activities for children and have booths
showcasing Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) programs, various outdoor recreation opportunities, and TPWD jobs. Area partners such as the Dallas Off Road Bicycle Association, Texas Master Naturalists, Texas Forest Service, and many others will also be on hand to interact with visitors. This project was made possible by a generous donation from the Araoz family in honor of Eulalia Araoz. “Their contribution has allowed us to produce a facility that will help educate and connect current and future generations to the wondrous natural and cultural resources here at Ray Roberts Lake State Park,” said Merritt.
Lake Ray Roberts is surrounded by the state park, wildlife management areas, wetlands and waterfowl sanctuaries. TPWD operates Ray Roberts Lake State Park under lease from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the cities of Dallas and Denton. Ray Roberts Lake State Park has nine developed units, including Isle du Bois, Johnson Branch, Jordan, Sanger, and the Ray Roberts Greenbelt. The Ray Roberts Lake State Park Johnson Branch is located at 100 PW 4153, Valley View, TX, 76272. More information on the park can be found on the Ray Roberts Lake State Park webpage on the TPWD website.

Migratory Game Bird General Rules 10/19/21 Valid Sept. 1, 2021 through Aug. 31, 2022 (TPWD)
Documentation All harvested migratory game birds not in the immediate possession of the person who harvested them must be tagged with a wildlife resource document until the birds reach the possessor’s personal residence and are finally processed. If a hunter’s personal birds have
been finally processed at a cold storage or processing facility and the hunter transports someone else’s birds, then a WRD must accompany those birds until they reach the possessor’s permanent residence. A person may give, leave, receive or possess (e.g. cleaning or storage) any species
9/8/20 of legally taken migratory game birds, or parts of birds, that are protected by a bag or possession limit, if the birds are accompanied by a WRD. All hunters must keep migratory game birds included in their bag or possession limit separate and identifiable from other hunters’ birds while in

the field or during transport to the possessor’s permanent residence, unless accompanied by a WRD. Processing of Migratory Game Birds Except for migratory game birds processed at a cold storage or processing facility, one fully feathered wing or head must remain attached to dressed migratory game birds (except doves) while being transported between the place taken and the personal residence of the hunter, the personal residence of another person receiving the dressed birds or a migratory bird preservation facility. Migratory game birds may be dressed for immediate cooking at a place other than a permanent residence (e.g., hunting camp). This does not include placing dressed birds in a cooler/refrigerator for later consumption while at a place other than a permanent residence. Hunting on Public Waters Waterfowl hunters utilizing public water are encouraged to contact a local TPWD Law Enforcement office or reservoir controlling authority for information on rules or permit requirements before hunting. On public hunting lands owned, administered, or leased by TPWD, a person is required to possess both a valid hunt-
ing license and Annual Public Hunting Permit to hunt migratory game birds. Licensed supervised youth under the age of 17 may hunt free of charge on these lands. For more information, check the TPWD Public Hunting Lands Map Booklet available at all TPWD offices, or visit the public hunting website. Emergency Rule Changes These rules may be modified to make them consistent with federal regulations or to protect the wildlife resource through emergency action by the TPWD executive director. Shooting Hours •One-half hour before sunrise to sunset except during the Light Goose Conservation Order and the Special Whitewinged Dove Season. •During the Light Goose Conservation Order: one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset. •During the Special Whitewinged Dove Season: noon to sunset. See Sunrise/Sunset Computations. Wanton Waste A reasonable effort must be made to retrieve any killed or wounded birds and any wounded bird retrieved must be immediately killed and made a part of the bag limit. After retention, the birds must be kept in an edible condition. Closed Areas
Unless otherwise specified, there are no open seasons on state wildlife preserves and sanctuaries, public roads and highways or their rights-ofway. More restrictive federal regulations may apply to National Wildlife Refuges open to public hunting. Closed Seasons It is a violation to hunt a migratory game bird or possess a freshly killed migratory game bird listed in these rules at any time other than as provided in the “OPEN SEASONS, BAG AND POSSESSION LIMITS” section. If no season is listed for a species, the season is closed. Vehicles It is unlawful to hunt from or by means of motor-driven vehicles and land conveyances or aircraft of any kind, except paraplegics and single or double amputees of legs may hunt from stationary motor-driven vehicles or land conveyances. It is unlawful to use motordriven land, water or air conveyances or sailboats to concentrate, drive, rally or stir up any migratory game bird. There is no open season for migratory game birds on public roads or the right-of-way of public roads. Start Your Fall Vegetable Garden Now
By Jacque Kyle, Fannin Co. Master Gardener
To ensure a crop of vegetables into Thanksgiving, gardens need to be planted in midsummer to early fall. Fall gardening has distinct advantages over spring gardening: it is very productive, crops mature as the days get shorter & cooler, higher quality in crops such as broccoli, cauliflower & lettuce, reduced watering needs due to more frequent rainfall, insect pests are declining, and the weather is more pleasant. Deciding to plant a fall garden includes pulling out some of the plants nurtured from spring through summer. It is recommended that all plants (and weeds) be re-
moved except okra, cherry tomatoes and pole beans if the foliage is healthy. Removed plants that are pest and disease free can go into the compost. Locate the fall garden where it will receive enough sun – “full sun” means at least 8 hours of intense, direct exposure. If plants such as tomatoes, peppers and squash do not get enough sun they have weak stems, grow spindly, drop blooms and generally don’t produce much. If using transplants, insure the health of the transplant with adequate watering without overwatering. They will survive hot temperatures and full sun IF adequate moisture is available to the plant. Overwatering will cause root rot and probably death of the plant. The advantage of

transplants is that they will shorten the growing period between planting & harvesting by almost a month. Do consider the growing period for each crop before planting. Cool season crops such as beets, broccoli, cauliflower, collard greens, lettuce, mustard greens, spinach, Swiss chard and turnips require at least two months from seed to beginning of harvest. Those requiring at least 3 months are cabbage, carrots, onions and squash (acorn, butternut). Warm season crops requiring 2 months from planting to harvest need to be at harvest stage before the first frost: Green bush beans, squash (yellow & zucchini). Those requiring 3 months are black-eyed peas, cantaloupe, corn, okra, pepper, potato, pumpkin, tomato and watermelon. The average date of first frost in our area is November 15. The fall gardening direct seeding guide from Aggie Horticulture has last optimum dates for crops to be planted in our region for fall harvest. August 1 is the latest date for bush beans, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, cucumber, and potatoes. Some that can be planted as late as August 15 are: carrots, Swiss chard, collard greens, and summer squash. A more complete list is available at the Fannin County Texas AgriLife Extension office or on the website aggie-horticulture. tamu.edu. Choose Vegetable Resources, then Guides, then Fall Vegetable Gardening Guide. If you have questions, call the Extension office at 903-583-7453.

For the Outdoor/Hunting edition, I thought I would stay true to the theme and submit a recipe for Venison.

3 cloves of garlic, minced ¼ c. soy sauce ¼ c. Worcestershire sauce ¼ c. balsamic vinegar Juice of 1 lemon Black pepper Bacon In a medium bowl whisk together all ingredients leaving the bacon for last. Put back straps in a zip lock bag and pour marinate over and put in the refrigerator for 2 hours but overnight is best! Wrap loins in bacon and secure
You don’t want to overcook your Venison. Medium rare is usually perfect. It’s some of the most tender and leanest meat you’ll will ever taste. This grilled Venison back strap gives filet mignon a run for its money for sure. Some people may think that Venison tastes “gamey.” I can assure you that with this marinade, you’ll never use that word again. Good luck to all the hunters and have a safe and successful season! Please send me your favorite or unique recipes to Fannin County Leader at 224 N. Main St. Bonham, TX 75418 or email me: fclsales@verizon.net

By Malinda Allison A new mural on the south side of the Honey Grove Library & Learning Center, funded by the Honey Grove 10/19/21 Industrial Foundation, celebrates Honey Grove’s rich history. Painted by well-known mural artist David Freeman, the mural is in the style of an old-time postcard. It of course features Davy Crockett, who camped in what is now Honey Grove on his way to the Alamo. While camping, Crockett found “bees and honey plenty” and thus gave the town its name. The mural also celebrates Honey Grove’s: * Historic church buildings and congregations * The many beautiful historic homes remaining in Honey Grove
* The town square and the historic buildings remaining on the Square * The restored City Hall * The newly restored Honey Grove Library & Learning Center * The rich tradition of education in Honey Grove and its public school * Honey Grove’s agricultural businesses, including cotton and ranching Malinda Allison, President of the Honey Grove Industrial Foundation, said: We are so happy to have partnered with the Honey Grove Library and Learning Center to create this beautiful tribute to Honey Grove for residents and visitors. Amy Patrick, a local realtor and member of the Honey Grove Industrial Foundation, said: Fannin County is growing and people are
looking at Honey Grove as a place to settle down. They will be impressed by the new mural. Rhonda Cunningham, Chairman of the HallVoyer Foundation which operates the Honey Grove Library, said: The Hall Voyer Foundation is pleased to be a part of the the preservation and restoration of Honey Grove. The mural symbolizes the rich history of the town and gives people a place to snap a picture to commemorate that history. Muralist David Freeman said: I was honored to be selected to design and paint this mural depicting Honey Grove’s rich history and bright future. Come visit the mural, take a photo in front of it, and post the photo on Facebook and Instagram with the hashtag #honeygrovemural.

Is Celebrate Recovery For Me?
Celebrate Recovery offers a person the opportunity to participate in a group where love and hope combine with God’s purpose to mend our lives. Ask yourself: • Are there things in my life that I do to hurt others? • Is there something I wish I could live without? • Is there something in my life that has gotten out of control? • Do I have a habit or hang-up from which I need to be freed? this initially was requested by the owner of The Feed Lot. Due to the many vehicles parked on Hwy 56 and attempted two-way traffic on Beech St, the original owner felt this necessary for safety reasons. Chief of Police Mike Bankston reported his observance of the situation and discussion ensued. After much discussion about the problem of parking in the area, Chief Bankston gave his recommendation that this action would be an easy solution to a safety issue while not adversely affecting any neighbor by restricting their flow of traffic. Mayor Compton ended the Public Hearing at 6:16 p.m. Motion was made by Michael Evans, seconded by Councilman David Odom, and passed to take action on the ordinance. 8. Cedar Creek EXCELLENT. Water lightly stained; 80 degrees; 1.10 feet low. Sand bass and hybrid bass are good trolling using rigs, slabs, and cut shad. Crappie are excellent in brush piles in 8-12 feet of water and bridge pilings using minnows and jigs. Catfish are good, drifting over humps with cut or live shad. Lavon GOOD. Water lightly stained; 78 degrees; 3.72 feet low. The leaves are changing colors, but the fishing remains consistent. Bluegill sunfish are good. White bass are slow schooling up. Try casting 1-ounce slabs in white. Crappie are good, trolling over submerged timber in water depths of 14 feet. Black bass are great using Tattle Tale worms, creature baits, and 3 foot and 12foot divers. The lake is down, leaving many of the structures high and dry, so they are starting to pull back into deeper water around the structures, making them

Faye and Scott will also provide a variety of cheeses and crackers for snacking. Since this pandemic is still lingering, we are requesting that guests bring finger foods that have been pre packaged and/or prepared (none of those home baked goodies as yet)...e.g. nuts, olives, fresh fruit or veggies, baked goods from the bakery, pre-packaged guacamole and other dips. TCOG Benefits Counselors Prepare for Medicare Open Enrollment Period
Free, personalized Medicare Counseling from October 15 through December 7, 2021
SHERMAN, OCTOBER 14, 2021 - TCOG’s StateCertified Benefits Counselors are ready to assist Cooke, Fannin and Grayson County residents in the upcoming Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP). Personalized assistance will be available starting tomorrow, October 15 through December 7, 2021, at no cost to you. “Medicare Open Enrollment is a time for any individual with Medicare to compare insurance plans to make sure they have the right coverage for the upcoming year,” stated TCOG’s executive director, Eric Bridges. “Our Area Agency on Aging counselors are available to give free, personalized Medicare counseling and assist in the selection of the best medical and prescription plan coverage.” Medicare health and drug plans can make changes to costs and coverage, as well as their list of in- network providers each year. TCOG’s Area Agency on Aging (AAA) Benefits Counselors are equipped to evaluate healthcare plans to find individuals better coverage with higher quality at a lower cost.
“It is important for Medicare Beneficiaries to check coverage costs and compare with a few other plans to ensure their choice best fits their medical and prescription needs,” stated Sheila Vaughn, one of TCOG’s benefits counseling specialists. “For most Medicare Beneficiaries, this is the only time of year to make these changes.” Bridges noted that any changes made during this time are not effective until January 1, 2022. In addition to providing one-on-one counseling, our Benefits Counselors are able to help with other services such as Advanced Directives, appeals for denied benefits and the evaluation of Social Security Benefits. They can also check to see if you qualify for Medicare Extra Help Programs. If you are a Medicare Beneficiary, we encourage you to call our AAA office to schedule a free, personal assessment to evaluate your specific medical insurance needs. Before deciding on a Medicare plan for 2022, discuss your options with one of our StateCertified Benefits Counselors. To schedule an appointment, call (903) 813-3505 or toll-free (800) 677-8264.
Texas DPS partners with Grayson College to train law enforcement
Denison, Texas Thanks to a partnership with the Texas Department of Public Safety and the U.S. Department of Justice’s Community Oriented Policing Services, Grayson College’s Texoma Regional Police Academy will serve as the host for a no-cost Interdiction for the Protection of Children training for area law enforcement. The Texas Department of Public Safety will deliver the training on Monday, October 25 and Tuesday, October 26 from 8 am to 5 pm in Grayson College’s Center for Workplace Learning Auditorium. Interdiction of the Protection of Children training is designed to make patrol officers aware of the variety of resources available to assist them in establishing the status of a child who may be missing, exploited, or at risk of exploitation and what courses of action are immediately available. On completion, attendees will be able to identify researchsupported indicators of an endangered child and a high-risk
threat to children. Attendees will also have a basic understanding of behavioral patterns of suspects and victims. The class is identified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) as course number 3275. “I am thrilled to have the excellent training from the Texas Department of Public Safety here on the Grayson College campus,” said Mary Pyle, Director of the Texoma Regional Police Academy (TRPA). “By working with experts in their respective fields, the TRPA is proud to bring the best in professional development and continuing education programming to local law enforcement.”
“Partnerships formed, like the one with Grayson College, demonstrate that working together makes a difference in the lives of children everywhere,” added Lieutenant Greg Reyero, Crimes Against Persons Training Unit, Texas Department of Public Safety. The TCOLE accredited Texoma Regional Police Academy (TRPA) at Grayson College offers area law enforcement continuing education opportunities through the College’s Center for Workplace Learning. Area law enforcement interested in attending this unique, no-cost training should register via the available courses link at grayson.edu/cwl. Those interested in the TRPA and its full-time and part-time police academy can contact Mary Pyle at 903.463.8703. The next police academy will begin January 4, 2022 and Corrections and Telecommunications Officer training is slated for 2022 as well.
