From my LiFe to yours: A Look at Life
By Bro. Bill Beasley
John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
COOKING IN FANNIN COUNTY by Tommie Sue Turner
In less than a month we will be electing presidential leadership for our country. Their term will last for the next four years. Not many who have served us are still alive but history helps us to hold in our memory some of their contributions. For most of the past calendar year our party nominees have been busy in their campaigns. A thing that I will remember is listening to the debate and
reading their multiple ads. They have held before us their opponent’s life – the successes and failures, the fruits and flaws, the good and the bad. I have thought along the way that I have little or no control of their records – but brought to my attention is the importance of our life, yours and mine. Keeping in touch with the Maker of life, the mission of our lives, and the Master of life is very important. The Bible often speaks
one in, and I think it will be a really good one. Thanks, again, for sending in these delicious recipes for us to enjoy.

Press firmly into well greased 15 x 10 inch jelly roll pan. Bake at 450° for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly. Cool thoroughly before cutting into bars. of life. The Book of James asked the question “What is your life?” Paul likens life to a builder, a farmer, and a warrior. Because of the two forces that are for and against, life is often a battlefield. We are confronted by the thief, who is the stealer of life and the Good Shepherd who is the giver of life. Please look at John 10:10 with me. The life we can have in Jesus is abundantly richer and more complete. It can be so because life in Christ is lived on a higher plane.

Is Celebrate Recovery For Me?
Celebrate Recovery offers a person the opportunity to participate in a group where love and hope combine with God’s purpose to mend our lives. Ask yourself: • Are there things in my life that I do to hurt others? • Is there something I wish I could live without? • Is there something in my life that has gotten out of control? • Do I have a habit or hang-up from which I need to be freed? He expressed his desire to get input from the citizens of Fannin County. Judge Moore said “The

Bring Back American Economic Stability
Following Bush’s Great Recession, Obama/Biden led a recovery that created 11.3 million jobs and unemployment fell to 4.3%. Biden knows how to restore our economy.
Trump’s failed policies have led to 8.4% unemployment and a $27 trillion National Debt. His tariffs have been disastrous for American industry and have bankrupted farmers.
Expand Affordable Healthcare and Pandemic Response
Obama/Biden established policy and infrastructure to fight pandemics--Trump dismantled them. Biden will expand affordable health care and cover pre-existing conditions.
Trump lied to the American people about COVID-19 despite being warned of the danger - now 220,000 DEAD. He is sueing to end ACA to deprive 30 million of health insurance
Honor Our Military and Veteran Heroes
Biden’s son, Beau, won a Bronze Star for service, and Biden honored his friend, John McCain. Hundreds of Generals, Admirals and national security officials have endorsed Biden.
Trump is a draft dodger who called McCain a “Loser” and our fallen soldiers “Suckers”. Russia put bounties on our soldiers and Trump did nothing to challenge Putin!
Empower Working Americans
Biden will not raise taxes on hard-working American families earning less than $400,000 per year, but will make sure that billionaires and wealthy corporations pay their fair share.
The Trump “tax cuts” went almost entirely to the rich and he paid no taxes most years. He used bankruptcy to cheat the small business people who built his enterprises.
Community Safety and Equal Justice
Biden supports increased resources and reforms so that policing is less dangerous for officers and the community and excessive incarceration is reduced.
Trump has inflamed tensions and emboldened supremacists to violence. He has ignored FBI warning about our greatest terrorism threat to our country - White Nationalists.
Renew American Values
Biden has lived his life with faith and family values. He pushed through the Violence Against Women Act. Jill Biden will be a exemplary role model as our First Lady.
Trump bragged of grabbing p***y, cheated on all 3 of his wives, including Melania Trump, and paid a porn star $130,000 to hide his infidelity from voters.
Restore America’s World Leadership
Biden is an effective negotiator who is respected by both our allies and adversaries. He will allow America to once again establish the world leadership that has been sorely missing.
Our standing in the world has fallen under Trump since he has alienated our Allies and aligned with Russia. The world sees the US with pity and scorn. They are laughing at us.

THE
DEMOCRATIC SIDE
“Without prefix, without suffix, and without apology, I am a Democrat!” -- Speaker Sam Rayburn
WOMEN DESERVE BETTER Priority Health Care for Women and Children In 2011 the Republican Texas Legislature cut 2/3 of the funding for family planning and women’s reproductive health care in a state already last in health insurance. By 2012, maternal mortality had risen to 14.6 per 100,000 women. In 2018, that number had grown to 18.5 per 100,000. Statistics for women of color are up to twice that. These statistics are as bad as the numbers in many third-world countries and far worse than those in wealthy, developed nations like the U.S. In a rush to punish Planned Parenthood for the 3% of their work involving (legal) abortion, Republicans turned over taxpayer funds to their incompetent cronies who had little or no experience in women’s health care or family planning. Democrats will make sure that there is adequate funding for women’s health and that it goes to those qualified to provide it. By accepting the billions of dollars in Medicaid reimbursement due toTexas under the Affordable Care Act, Democrats will fund programs and restore rural hospitals that will reverse these horrible trends. Republicans have rejected this money simply out of spite.
Democrats Will Keep Our Word To Women In order to pay for the 2017 Republican tax cuts for the richest 1% and wealthy corporations, Trump and his Republican enablers have planned massive cuts to programs which provide aid to children and poor- to moderate-income families. Particularly hard hit will be single mothers already struggling to make ends meet. Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LHEAP), the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), and the Affordable Care Act (ACA), all Democrat-supported programs, are now in jeopardy. And thanks to Gov. Abbott and Lt. Gov. Patrick, Texas has reduced payments to local food banks by 44%, hurting both rural families who need food during the COVID-19 pandemic and the farmers who are paid to provide it. The East Texas Food Bank, alone, will lose 615,820 meals per year, and farmers will have 738,984 pounds of produce left unsold.
Needed Legislation Won’t Die Under Democrats Majority Leader McConnell and our lickspittle Senator Cornyn have allowed more than 400 pieces of House-passed legislation to languish in the Senate without allowing an up-or-down vote. Four of these bills would have the most direct and positive impact on women. The Child Care for Working Families Act would insure that all families have access to affordable child care. The Family and Medical Insurance Leave Act would provide up to 12 weeks of paid leave for qualified workers. This could be used for a newborn or adopted child, the serious illness of a family member, or the worker’s own medical condition. The Paycheck Fairness Act and the Pay Equity for All Act would create wage equity for similar work across genders, and significantly reduce poverty for working women and their families. Currently, for every dollar earned by a white male, women earn only 80 cents. For black women, it is only 63 cents and for Latinas only 54 cents.
R-E-S-P-E-C-T Democrats will never grab women by anything other than the hand!

AUSTIN ¬– Fatalities from crashes involving pedestrians are on the rise in Texas and now account for nearly one in five of all of the state’s traffic deaths. Last year, 668 people died in pedestrian-related crashes in Texas, up by 5% from 2018, and more than 1,300 were seriously injured. Crashes involving bicyclists in 2019 also claimed the lives of 68 people and seriously injured 313. These numbers follow an alarming trend that has seen pedestrian and bicyclist fatalities increase over the last five years. Safety officials attribute a primary cause of the increase to people’s widespread failure to follow state laws designed to protect pedestrians and bicyclists. To that end, TxDOT is kicking off a new public awareness campaign this month that urges all Texans to drive smart, walk smart and bike smart . “Whether you’re behind
the wheel, on foot, or riding a bicycle , we’re reminding Texans to make traffic safety their number one concern when they’re out and about,” said TxDOT Executive Director James Bass. “The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us the importance of looking after ourselves and others in our communities, and we’re asking the public to apply that same responsibility to safely sharing the road and obeying traffic laws.” Almost half of all pedestrians and cyclists who died last year on Texas streets and highways were between the ages of 21 and 49. Most were living in urban areas, and the majority—73% of the pedestrians and 90% of the cyclists --- were male. No matter how Texans choose to travel, TxDOT wants them to know and follow state laws for safe driving, walking and biking. Drivers should take specific steps to protect pedestrians and bicyclists who are more likely to be killed or
seriously injured when involved in a crash with a mo-

RUFUS WHITAKER HIGH, JR.
Rufus Whitaker High, Jr., 88, left this earth on Thursday, October 8,2020, at his residence in Savoy, Texas, and now rests in eternal, painfree peace with his God in Heaven. R.W., as he was known, was born August 11, 1932 in Dallas, Texas to Rufus and Velma High. He graduated from Adamson High School and soon enlisted in the US Navy. After his discharge, he joined the Dallas Police
Department in 1955 where he served for 21 years. Upon his retirement, he opened High’s Corner Feed Store in Duncanville, Texas, until he returned to law enforcement joining the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office (DSO) in January, 1980. In 1988, while working at the Dallas Sheriff’s Office, he met a widow lady at the copy machine – he said he fell in love with her before he even knew her. She was Lenda Kennedy Hagins, who worked in the felony court system. That began a 32-year love story that most couples only dream about. R.W. retired from DSO in 1993 and began building them a home on Lenda’s farm in Savoy, Texas. They married in Galveston March 7,1997, she retired in June that same year, and they spent their retirement years enjoying the casinos, their golden retrievers and raising miniature donkeys. R.W. is survived by his wife, Lenda, of Savoy; step-children

to stay to watch their documents shredded. The shredding event is not intended for businesses. Participants will be limited to the back of a truck or interior of a car. No trailers of documents will be accepted for shredding. The shredding event is sponsored by Douglass Distributing. Keystone Enterprises will provide electronic waste collection. They will accept anything that has had a current running through it, including small appliances, electric and battery-operated lawn equipment, batteries and battery chargers, lighting, fans, televisions and monitors of any kind, and large appliances. Refrigerators and air conditioners must be drained of freon before they are brought to the site. For a full list of materials accepted, visit our website or the Facebook event. Strategic Materials will provide a container for glass bottles and jars of any color. Plate glass and glass dishes, bakeware and cookware will not be accepted. Strategic Materials processes recycled glass for use in a wide array of products, creating efficiencies for their customers while conserving earth’s natural resources. Glass takes 1,000,000 years to fully degrade in a landfill. Recycling glass takes 30% of the energy required to produce new glass from raw materials. A six-pack of beer bottles creates enough fiberglass insulation to fill a standard wall cavity. The container from Strategic Materials will be on the parking lot from Friday October 23 through Sunday October 25. Individuals and businesses are invited to bring glass bottles and jars to add to the container at any time during the weekend. Choctaw Nation is a lead-

ing recycling partner in Texoma. They will provide a container and will accept Styrofoam, paper (even shredded paper), flattened cardboard, plastics 1,2&5, ink and toner cartridges, cell phones. Cardboard boxes from the shredding event will be flattened and added to the Choctaw Nation container. The container will also sit on the parking lot over the weekend, and individuals are invited to add to it over the weekend. While the containers for Strategic Materials and Choctaw Nation will remain on the parking lot until Monday morning, the other recycling events are restricted to the event hours. Due to social distancing restraints, we will have a minimal number of volunteers on site. Recycling participants should expect to unload their own materials. Masks will be required. Those leaving documents to be shredded will not be allowed to stay on site to watch. For more information, please check our website www.earthdaytexoma.org

State laws mandate stopping for pedestrians in crosswalks, yielding the right of way to pedestrians and cyclists when turning, and passing cyclists at a safe distance and giving them room to ride. Pedestrians should cross the street only at intersections and crosswalks, obey all traffic and crosswalk signals, and always use sidewalks when available. If there isn’t a sidewalk, pedestrians should walk on the left side of the street or road, facing oncoming traffic. Like drivers, bicyclists are required to obey all traffic signs and signals, including stopping at red lights and stop signs. State laws also dictate that those who ride bicycles must use hand signals when turning or stopping, ride with traffic, use bike lanes or ride as near as possible to the right-hand curb, and when riding at night, make sure their bikes have a white light on the front and a red light or reflector on the back. More than 3,000 traffic crashes involving pedestrians occurred last year in Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio, resulting in 287 fatalities. These cities also saw more than 1,100 bicycle crashes that resulted in 30 deaths and 113 serious injuries. “Be Safe. Drive Smart.” and TxDOT’s pedestrian and bicycle safety initiative are key components of #EndTheStreakTX, a broader social media and word-of-mouth effort that encourages drivers to make safer choices while behind the wheel, like wearing a seat belt, driving the speed limit, never texting and driving and never driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. Nov. 7, 2000 was the last deathless day on Texas roadways. #EndTheStreakTX asks all Texans to commit to driving safely to help end the streak of daily deaths on Texas roadways.

Fannin County high school cross country runners will vie for trips to regionals in November at various district meets this month. The District 11-3A Meet will be Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Bells. The varsity girls will race at 11 a.m., followed by the varsity boys at 11:30 a.m. The district includes Bonham, Leonard, Bells, Blue Ridge, Gunter, Howe, Pottsboro and Whitewright. The District 14-2A Meet will be Saturday, Oct. 24, at Trenton. The varsity girls will run at 10 a.m., with the varsity boys at 10:30 a.m. The district includes Honey Grove, Sam Rayburn, Trenton, Celeste, Merit Bland, Tom Bean and Wolfe City. The District 23-1A Meet will be held Wednesday, Oct.
28, at Miller Grove. Start times are to be announced. The district includes Dodd City, Ector, Fannindel, Savoy, Campbell, Miller Grove, Fruitvale and Greenville Pioneer Technology and Arts Academy. Those teams and individuals who advance past district will compete Nov. 9 at the regional races in Dallas at the Jesse Owens Memorial Complex. The State races will be Nov. 23 in Round Rock at Old Settlers Park. Last fall, Fannin County again had participants competing until the end of the cross country season at State. Class 1A Dodd City resumed its cross country program, advanced both its girls and boys teams out of 23-1A to the regional meet and then one individual from each to
State. Additionally, 3A Leonard advanced a girl and 2A Honey Grove a boy to run at Round Rock. All eight participating Fannin County schools in 2019 qualified teams or individual runners for regional competition. In the old 10-3A, Leonard’s girls won the varsity title, while Bonham advanced its boys team and an individual girl. Trenton won the old 13-2A girls title and qualified two boys as individuals. Honey Grove also advanced its girls and boys teams, out of 13-2A, while Sam Rayburn did likewise in the old 12-2A. Ector advanced its boys team from 23-1A. Also, Ector and Savoy each qualified an individual girl.

Dodd City’s Lindsey Mauppin started her high school cross country career last fall with a freshman-year trip to State in Round Rock. Photos by Rich Hilliard By Rich Hilliard As district volleyball reaches its final few matches, the postseason picture has become clearer regarding Fannin County teams. In 16-2A, Dodd City, which started play assured of a trip to the Class 1A postseason as one of the few 1A teams in the district, will advance as the grouping’s No. 1 seed to the 1A playoffs. Through play on Oct. 13, the Lady Hornets (13-4), who ranked No. 25 in the combined 1A-2A poll by the Texas Girls Coaches Association on the same date, were tied for third
place in the overall 16-2A standings with 2A Tioga with a 7-4 district record. Dodd City’s district results include home-and-home sweeps of 2As Wolfe City and Trenton, a split with 2A Tioga and a first-half win over 2A Sam Rayburn. The upcoming postseason will be the 26th for the Lady Hornets’ volleyball program in the last 31 years. Additionally, 1A Savoy will go to the 1A postseason as the No. 2 seed from 16-2A -- the Lady Cardinals’ sixth-consecutive postseason. Meanwhile, 2A Trenton remained on course to garner a 2A postseason berth
via 16-2A -- also a sixthconsecutive playoffs trip for the Lady Tigers. Elsewhere, Bonham in 11-3A remained in the hunt for a berth and thirdstraight postseason trip. League slates for both districts have been scheduled to conclude on Oct. 27. The postseason will commence with bi-district matches Oct. 29-31.

Photo by Rich Hilliard By Rich Hilliard Bonham football senior Brant Stuber has been selected as an Unsung Hero Award recipient, an honor bestowed per a partnership between Texas Farm Bureau Insurance and Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. Besides a $500 scholarship, Savoy’s Hannah Myers hits near the net during District 16-2A volleyball.
Stuber will receive recognition at a school pep rally, Friday night football game and at TexasFootball.com. In 2019, Stuber earned second-team notoriety as an outside linebacker and also helped quarterback the Bonham Purple Warriors.

By Tina Moore - Open Arms Homeless Shelter held an appreciation reception for volunteers on Tuesday, October 13, at Trinity Baptist Church. The shelter has been open since June and depends on volunteers to keep the doors open. Four daily shifts at the shelter leaves a need for volunteers to cover 120 shifts each month. Open Arms is so thankful for our volunteers. Visit our website: oashelter. com to volunteer. Area churches and community members have blessed the shelter with, not only volunteers, but also with an abundance of gifts: monetary donations, donations of goods, and the preparation and serving of meals. THANK YOU so much for your service.
