I’ve heard quite a few of her stories and her imagination as an artist comes through in her writing. I know everyone will enjoy what she reads for us. The other two plays are short but light-hearted and I know audience members will get into the spirit with the guessing game. We may even add some music to the evenings festivities.” For more information about the Dessert Theater on Friday at 7 PM, call the Creative Arts Center at 903-640-2196.

From my LiFe to yours: 5/2/17 Trusting in the Master Builder
By Bro. Bill Beasley Genesis 1:1 Genesis 2:18 In the beginning of all that we know as the
world universe was the existence of mighty God. I like to think of Him as being the world’s Master Builder. Likewise, I consider His Word, the Bible, as being the user’s manual. While our cultures are continually changing, the principles given to guide us are eternally applicable. Some of the churches in our area are using as their Bible Study curriculum the Book of Genesis. If you are familiar with
this book, then you will remember this begins with a focus on the family. I think this to be quite interesting. I am convinced that our home life is to be the number one emphasis in the way churches go – the way our schools go – and the way our society goes. When God placed Adam in the Garden of Eden, the only thing that was not good in all of creation was Adam’s “aloneness.” God fixed that. He made
TPW Commission Thanks Texas for Approving Prop 5
S. Reed Morian, Chairman of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission, issued the following statement regarding the results of yesterday’s election where voters overwhelmingly approved Proposition 5, a constitutional amendment dedicating revenue received from the sales and use taxes collected on sporting goods to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Texas Historical Commission: “We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the people of Texas for voting to approve Proposition 5 and thus securing the future funding of parks and historic sites across this state for generations to come. With this constitutional amendment, voters have given the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Texas Historical Commission a chance to make real progress towards addressing the needs of parks and historic sites statewide. “On behalf of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission and the 3,200 men and women of the department, I would like

to thank Governor Greg Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Senator Lois Kolkhorst, Representative John Cyrier and the Texas Legislature for making this a priority last session and building the tremendous legislative sup-

Eve – a helper, a partner, and an ideal friend. The family needs a spirit of togetherness. Another point of concern in today’s homes is that of “foundation.” Only when our homes are built on the “solid rock” will they withstand today’s tempests. The Bible gives us God’s plans, specifications, and materials to use. May God help us get it right with Him. Trust the Master Builder as we commit our homes to Him.

Stephen Geiger, Chief Operating Officer with Rayburn Country Electric Coop gave an update for the transmission line projects at the raw water pump station and the Leonard water treatment plant. He stated that the transmission line route has been approved and that it was not decided by the commissioners in Austin which is the usual way a route is decided. The route was selected by all the affected land owners in Fannin County by coming together and picking the route. This was a non-contested route. Mr. Geiger stated that this is the first time and probably the only time in his life that he will see a community come together and decide where a route will go. Mr. Geiger also stated that with the installation of the new transmission lines, that power outages of all types will be reduced in the area. This entire project is expected to be complete March of 2020. 8. Discussion regarding the retirement of Mary Bloodsworth, head of Environmental Development – Commissioner Precinct 3. All the commissioners thanked Mary for her hard work and dedication that she has given while she was employed by Fannin County, and congratulated her on her retirement. A round of applause followed.

Oakwood Cemetery News
By Deidra Jackson
October was a busy month at Oakwood Cemetery in Honey Grove. Since October is one of our semi-annual cleanup months at Oakwood, old and faded floral tributes were removed to make room for new ones. Memorials were given for Yvonne and Margie Dobbs. Volunteers worked very hard on two headstones. One was for a young boy who was born on October 11, 1853, and died on
his eleventh birthday in 1864. The other headstone belonged to a World War II veteran. Neither had family members still living to care for their graves. We are pleased to say that there are several families having the headstones of family members either leveled or cleaned or both. Also if you have a family member buried at Oakwood who does not have any kind of marker on their grave, please consider such a gift for the coming holiday season.

lock: Reflected on 2-19-19 a friend that is having a rough time and has no family. He stated that he was deeply touched by the simple favor of taking his friend to Dairy Queen. Everyone should strive to be a better man/woman than they were yesterday; do something for someone else. Commissioner Self: Looking forward to the rain that is coming in. Encourages everyone to tell Mary their appreciation for the service she has given to the county. Commissioner Magness: Hates to see Mary retire and stated she was a good employee and needed to be recognized for her service. Thanked everyone for coming. Commissioner Lackey: He has received multiple phone calls from citizens in the county concerning lake and pipeline contractors using the county roads that they live on. He stated that these are public roads; we have no control over who uses the roads in the county. They have just as much right to use them as anyone else. He requested that the citizens of Fannin County try to understand this. Reminded everyone to attend Justice is Served next Saturday, November 16th; it’s a great cause for our kids. Commissioner Lackey also stated that his new granddaughter was born last Tuesday; he and his wife are tickled to have her. Judge Moore: He went to a retirement party and presented one of David Keene’s Bois D’Arc pens to Doug Franklin who retired from the Upper Trinity River Water District in Ladonia. Bill Wilson was recognized for facilitating several meetings concerning the mental health issue in Fannin County; he’s had good response and a lot of people are becoming involved. He also went to the funeral of Bill Lindsay, the Mayor of Denison who died recently, representing the commissioners’ court. The commissioners are looking for a new location for the adult probation office due the deterioration of the current building. 25. Adjourn. 10:20 am

Among the factors impacting downtown parking are the construction/restoration of the Fannin County Courthouse, the need for local business owners to strongly encourage their employees to park in available parking lots rather than “at the front door” where customers prefer to park and “wayfinding” signage to assist drivers not familiar with downtown Bonham in finding their way to numerous nearby parking options or through downtown to other local destinations and attractions. Wayfinding signage will indeed receive more attention (and resources) with an eye to clear out some elements of visual clutter while offering a consistent visual reference to help guide shoppers, travelers and guests to our community! Likewise, direct business-to-business (B2B) conversation and consideration is the single most impactful means to address the availability of local

downtown parking and the distribution of WHERE that parking is. The overarching topic impacting an array of current and future concerns remains housing. Specifically the limited ‘workforce housing’ options presently available in the Bonham market directly impacts; the ability of the city to attract & retain local first responders, BISD’s recruitment and RETENSION of first and second year teachers and coaches, industries’ ability to fill existing jobs and the private sector’s staffing of new ones as more retail stores and restaurants open their doors in Bonham. Martin Sanchez together with Dr. McBroom and Sanchez Group colleague Rick Chaffin presented a veritable tour de force to all on the critical “inputs” builders & developers must address for this stock to expand. Many of these on-going challenges will be addressed in the coming months in preparation for the first of its kind in Bonham – Bonham Developers Conference that the City and BEDCo will cohost in cooperation with The Sanchez Group on Friday April 17th next year. While primarily focused on residential, select commercial and industrial developers will also be among invitees. Art Painting Party November 21 at the Creative Arts Center
Press Release - The Creative Art Center’s monthly Art on the Town Painting Party will be Thursday, November 21 from 6:30-8:30 PM and features a Christmas-theme painting project called Christmas Lambs. The whimsical theme is an original by Di Hopkins who will teach the class. As is customary, all art supplies are
included in the $35 price, and guests are invited to BYOB and snacks if they wish. When the evening is finished, participants will take home a finished painting. Add a garland of holly or poinsettia around the painting and it can even be a door decoration or make a wall or nook festive for the season. In December, the CAC will offer a Christmas ornament painting party on Thursday, December 5 from 6:30-8:30 PM. Plans are to have a fire pit in the garden, roast s’mores and decorate or paint ornaments of two different types. The cost is $25 and 3 ornaments will be provided. For more information on these and other activities at the Creative Arts Center, see their website at www.creativeartscenterbonham.com or call 903-640-2196.

One question presented to the Sheriff candidates was totally not necessary. Do you think it is fitting to bring your personal dog to work? Of course it is as long as it doesn’t interfere with work. Many people in different professions take their dogs to work. They boost morale tremendously. The question, I believe was asked to try to discredit Mark Johnson because he takes his dog Bella to work everyday. I have met her and watched her interact with people and she brings nothing but a smile on their face and is very well behaved. How does that question
inform the people what the Sheriff candidates plan on doing if elected to protect and serve the people of Fannin County? Nothing! I, for one, will vote for Mark Johnson because he has proven he is compassionate and kind to everyone. He cares what happens to the people in our county and runs the Sheriff’s office very professionally. He spends a lot of his own money to make the department a better one. I am curious, who submitted the questions? Lynn Delcamp Bonham

Sunset Advisory Commission Invites Public Input on the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department
AUSTIN – The Sunset Advisory Commission is reviewing the mission and performance of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and welcomes public comments on whether the agency is still needed and ideas to improve its operations and services. The Texas Sunset Act requires the Sunset Commission to periodically review TPWD and recommend whether to continue the agency and change state law to improve the agency’s efficiency and effectiveness. The Legislature ultimately will decide whether to continue TPWD and adopt Sunset’s other statutory recommendations. The Sunset Commission also may adopt management directives for TPWD that do not require statutory change.
The Sunset process has three stages. First, Sunset staff will evaluate TPWD, seek public input, and issue a report recommending solutions to problems found. Second, the Sunset Commission will hold two public meetings: a hearing on the staff report and the agency, and a decision meeting to adopt recommendations to the Legislature based on the report and public comments. Third, the Legislature will convene in January 2021 and will consider Sunset’s statutory recommendations in a Sunset bill for TPWD. Here are several ways to provide comments and suggestions to Sunset staff on TPWD’s mission, operations, and services: •Send an email to sunset@ sunset.texas.gov
•Submit comments online at www.sunset.texas.gov •Send a letter to Sunset Advisory Commission, Attn: TPWD, P.O. Box 13066, Austin, Texas 78711 •Call (512) 463-1300 to speak to Danielle Nasr, project manager of the TPWD review Please provide your comments by December 2, 2019, to ensure Sunset staff can fully consider your input while conducting their review. Comments submitted before the staff report is published in June 2020 will remain confidential. Stay informed! Visit www. sunset.texas.gov to sign up for email alerts on the Sunset staff report and the Sunset Commission’s public meetings on TPWD.

TPW Commission Approves Regulation Changes for 10/29/19 Freshwater Trotlines and Other Related Gears AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission approved changes to the regulations on passive fishing gear (jug lines, minnow traps, perch traps, throwlines, and trotlines) to facilitate the removal of abandoned gear from public waters, make the presence of passive fishing gear identifiable to all users of public waters, and minimize the unintended take of aquatic resources. Before approving the proposed changes, commissioners, in response to public input, reduced the valid period for gear tags from 10 days to six days (instead of the proposed four) to shorten the time between angler inspections of their gear and reduce the negative impacts of abandoned passive fishing gear in Texas public waters. Scientific investigations conducted by the department show that fish mortalities as a result of “ghost fishing” (the continuing of effect of unattended passive gears) can increase after four
days. Such devices can continue to fish and represent a danger to fish and other aquatic organisms when they are abandoned. Requiring the gear tag and the accompanying gear to be checked more frequently than 10 days should reduce those unintended mortalities. “Current regulations do not require the removal of the fishing device from the water when the date period on gear tags needs to be updated. Reducing the number of days from 10 to six will not change that, but it does require the angler to check the gear and retain or release any resource that is caught,” said Jarret Barker, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Assistant Commander for Fisheries Enforcement. “The device can remain in the water while the gear tag is updated.” In addition to the changes in the length of the valid period for gear tags, changes were made to information required to be displayed on the gear tag. Anglers were given the op-

Pepé Le Chew The Mount Pleasant law enforcement office received a call from a man in the Winfield area who needed advice. He and his 5-year old grandson were outside and there was a small, young skunk eating food with their cats. His grandson started hand feeding the skunk, and after a minute, the skunk bit him on the finger and toe. The caller wasn’t sure how to handle the situation and asked if a game warden should come pick up the skunk. The office clerk advised the caller to take the grandchild to the hospital immediately and told him what to do to have the skunk checked for rabies. Later that week, a local vet office called the Mount Pleasant law enforcement office to let them know the skunk tested positive for rabies. The incident was reported to the department of health services and the local sheriff’s office.

tion of including the 12-digit customer number from their license instead of their address. “This allows some anonymity so someone can set out their gear without disclosing their personal information to other anglers while still allowing game wardens to identify the gear’s owner by using their customer number,” Barker said. Other approved changes add the requirement that minnow traps, throwlines, and trotlines have floats attached to aid in distinguishing active fishing gear from abandoned fishing gear and litter. All floats used on juglines, minnow traps, throwlines, and trotlines must be at least 6 inches in length and not less than 3 inches in width. For these four gears, floats for recreational anglers can be any color other than orange, while commercial fishing license holders will be required to use orange-colored floats. These changes will go into effect on February 1, 2020.

Flew Too Close to The Sun Cherokee, Anderson and Houston County game wardens executed a search warrant after receiving information about an individual who admitted to a friend he had been shooting deer from the road and confessed to shooting a deer in the Davy Crocket National Forest from the roadway. The individual was also heard saying his “deer season never ends.” The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department was asked to assist in the entry of the house because the suspected individual had previously been involved with shooting at police and fleeing. Upon entry of the suspects home, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were found along with poor living conditions. Inside the residence were two adult females, one adult male, and two juvenile females ages 9 and 16. Charges filed by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department included: possession of controlled substance and paraphernalia and endangering of a child – state jail felony. The male individual was also currently on parole at the time of the execution of the search warrant. Game wardens are investigating the poaching of deer. On The Lam On Oct. 14, a Schleicher County game warden received a call from a concerned citizen about a “big turtle” in the middle of the highway on Toe Nail Trail. Upon arriving at the scene out in the middle of a very rural part of the county the game warden found a large sulcata tortoise just hanging out on the farm to market highway. After a newspaper article, Facebook postings and multiple phone calls the game warden was able to locate the sulcata tortoise’s owner. Apparently, the large tortoise had escaped his enclosure by pushing on a weak spot of a fence and had been on the lam in the West Texas countryside for 10 days. Another happy ending in Eldorado, Texas.

The following situations hopefully will help you differentiate the emergency from the nonemergency. Diarrhea Pipe stream, watery diarrhea is an emergency. By Rich Hilliard Bonham and Dodd City have advanced to the volleyball regional quarterfinals. Bonham defeated Grand Saline, 25-22, 25-23, 25-20, in a Region II-3A area-round match at Rockwall on Nov. 7 to advance. Bonham will play District 9-3A co-champion Gunter (3311) in the regional quarterfinals -- where the Lady Warriors last reached in 2008 -- on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Denison High
School. Bonham, the 10-3A runnerup, defeated Pilot Point, 25-19, 25-15, 35-33, in bi-district play at Pottsboro on Nov. 5, to start its second-straight postseason. Dodd City defeated Graford, 25-10, 19-25, 25-22, 25-9, on Nov. 7 in Region II-1A arearound play at North Central Texas College at Gainesville to advance. The Lady Hornets, the 122A champion, will play Bryson on Monday at 6 p.m. at Lindsay in a regional quarterfinal
rematch. Last year, Bryson won en route to the state semifinals. This postseason equates Dodd City’s eighth-consecutive -- and 25th in the last 30 years. Meanwhile, Prairie Valley defeated Savoy, 3-0, in the Region II-1A area-round on Nov. 7 at Valley View, ending the Lady Cardinals’ fifth-consecutive postseason. In other Region II-3A bidistrict volleyball, Gunter defeated Leonard, 25-21, 22-25,

25-7, 25-14, on Nov. 4 at Denison High School. Leonard defeated Bells on Nov. 2 in a 10-3A volleyball play-in to secure the district’s third-place postseason berth and a fifth-consecutive and overall postseason. Bells, which lost to Ponder in bi-district play on Nov. 5,
Trenton’s first-time advance leads Fannin ‘19 football playoffs quartet

By Rich Hilliard Fannin County will have four teams in the Texas high school football postseason later this month. Only seeding remained to be determined for most, after games on Nov. 1. Class 2A Trenton has assured its first football postseason -after several decades (1940-54 and 1960-2011) of program dormancy of the varsity sport at the school. The Tigers will advance via either the No. 3 or 4 berth out of District 5-2A-I. Class 3A Leonard has secured the runner-up berth in 9-3A-II, after a rare postseason absence
last fall. The advance equates the Tigers’ ninth in the last 11 seasons -- all coming with Shane Fletcher at the helm. Leonard will play Troup on, Friday, Nov. 15, at Forney ISD Stadium in a Region III-3A Division II bi-district game at 7:30 p.m. Class 2A Honey Grove assured its third-consecutive postseason last month and could enter the playoffs as the 6-2A-I champion, pending the outcome of the Warriors’ regular season finale against Bogata Rivercrest on Nov. 8. A district title would be Honey Grove’s first since 2012. Class 1A Fannindel has
secured its third postseason and could also enter the playoffs as a district champion, pending the outcome of the Falcons’ game against Forestburg on Nov. 8. Fannindel Fannindel won the same district last fall. The bi-district round of the playoffs will occur Nov. 14-16. Note: Information regarding long-past Trenton football history provided by former Herald Democrat sports editor Bill Spinks.

advanced as the fourth-place team, after defeating Blue Ridge on Nov. 1. Leonard, Bells and Blue Ridge each finished with a 6-6 record in 10-3A volleyball, necessitating the play-in matches. Leonard went 4-2 during the second half of district play to surge into the postseason
picture. In Region II-2A, Collinsville defeated Trenton, 25-6, 25-17, 25-15, in bi-district play on Nov. 5 at Howe. Trenton qualified as 12-2A’s No. 3 seed to the 2A playoffs for its fifth-consecutive postseason.
Classification ADM limit to decide whether Bonham remains in 3A
By Rich Hilliard
Whether the maximum to be in the current Class 3A for athletics gets increased again by the University Interscholastic League for the upcoming realignment or not, Bonham would remain in the classification. Likewise, Bonham would stay in 3A Division-I for football. The 499 Average Daily Membership (ADM) submitted by Bonham on Oct. 25 -- a.k.a., Snapshot Day -- for the 2020 realignment again positioned the school near the current ‘ceiling’ -- an ADM of 504 -- to stay in 3A. Bonham’s ‘snapshot’ this fall represented an increase of 11 compared to 2017’s submission -- which led in the 2018 realignment to the school’s first drop in classification since 1982. The 504 maximum ADM to be in 3A for the 2018 realignment continued a steady increase this decade for each biennial reshuffling: 479 (2016) and 464 (2014). The same happened in 2012 (449) and 2010 (429) -- when the current 3A was called 2A, before the addition of a 6A.
Conversely, a decrease in the maximum ADM to stay in 3A could lead to a return to 4A-II for football and 4A overall for Bonham. A possible fit for Bonham in football would be in the current 5-4A-II -- which will be losing a couple of members. Matt Stepp of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine reported via tweet on Nov. 1 that Dallas ISD’s Lincoln and Roosevelt, members of 5-4AII, will be “opting up” into 4A-I. Other current 5-4A-II members with its reported ADMs for the upcoming realignment include Caddo Mills (520), Farmersville (545), Nevada Community (719) and Sunnyvale (584). The maximum ADM to stay in 3A in the 2020 realignment will also affect Van Alstyne, a districtrival for Bonham in most sports. Van Alstyne submitted a 517. Parameters for each classification should be released by the UIL later this year. Note: ADMs for current District 5-4A-II football member schools obtained via Dave Campbell’s Texas Football online website.
