Firearm safety equipment now tax-free in Texas
11/2/21
By Jennifer Whitlock-Field Editor, Texas Agriculture Daily
As of Sept. 1, firearm safety equipment in Texas is tax-free,
thanks to a bill passed during the regular session of the 87th Texas Legislature. Items designed to ensure the safe handling and storage of a firearm—such as gun safes, firearm lock boxes, barrel locks, trigger locks, arms safety training manuals and electronic publications of the same nature—are now exempt from sales tax, according to Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts Glenn Hagar. “Senate Bill 313 exempts firearms safety equipment from
sales and uses tax, which is 6.25% for the state and mostly, depending on the city, another 2%. So that’s 8.25% potential savings for anyone who wants to purchase something to
better secure their firearms,” Hegar said in an interview with the Texas Farm Bureau Radio Network. His office is working on updating the agency’s website, where the final rule regarding items qualifying for exemption should be published within 30 days. With hunting season in full swing, the effective date of the bill is timely. “If we can utilize this exemption as another mechanism to incentivize
Texans to make sure to keep their firearms in a safe manner or having them in a gun safe or with a trigger lock, that is money very well spent,” he said. “It’s at a little fiscal cost to the state, but the health and safety of other individuals and our kids is way more important than a few million dollars into the state treasury.” Retailers should already be aware and prepared to offer customers the exemption, and no special certificate is needed. Hegar noted the Texas Retailers Association has been working to make retailers aware of any legislative changes from the last session, but there may be some smaller retailers who have not yet been informed of the tax changes to firearm safety equipment purchases. If that happens, he said the best way to inform a retailer would be to refer them to the Comptroller website after the final rule is posted. Alternately,
Sunday Morning Re-take
Hello everyone! We had a wonderful service in God’s house Sunday morning! The spirit and fellowship were beautiful! The Bible tells us in Psalm 33:12, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom He hath chosen for His own inheritance.” The problem in our nation today is that America has forgotten the Godly foundation upon which she was built. Our trust should be in the Lord Jesus Christ. No one on this earth can give us what the Lord can give us, and what He’s already promised us. To go along with our message this week, our hymn reference was written by Edgar Page and Ira D. Sankey in 1876. I hope that you can say that this is your testimony. “Simply trusting every day, trusting through a stormy way; even when my faith is small, trusting Jesus, that is all. Trusting as the moments fly,
trusting as the days go by; trusting Him whate’er befall, trusting Jesus, that is all.” If you are looking for a good church home, we would be happy to have you come and visit us here at Central Baptist Church! Visitors are our

exemption. “Like myself, many Texans grew up hunting and fishing, and we really enjoy the outdoors and sporting activities,” Hegar said. “But we also want to incentivize people to continue to practice
firearm safety. This sales tax exemption on gun locks and safes and other trigger or barrel locks goes an extra step to ensure our youth continue to enjoy hunting, enjoy the outdoors, but are safe and secure, as well.”

Bonham, TX the sacrifice of thanksgiving and will call upon the name of the Lord”. – Psalms 116:17 “I will pay my vows unto the Lord now in the presence of all His people.” - v 18 “In the courts of the Lord’s house, in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem. Praise ye the LORD.” - v 19
By Bro. Bill Beasley Psalms 116:1, 2, 12-19 It was early in the morning of November 1st , I was awakened to the thought that once again we had entered into “Thanksgiving” month. For a long time November has held a very
special place in my heart and that for several reasons. And right then and there, while I was still abed, I had a prayer of remembrance for the special occasions and the beautiful times God had provided. The month of November is remembered as our wedding anniversary month, the month of my initial commitment to church related service, the finishing of my military service, and sadly the remembering of my wife’s death AFTER we had enjoyed 67 years of marriage. In the midst of these times, Thanksgiving Day has helped to keep our faith focused.

Since a lad, I have enjoyed Thanksgiving as not only being a legal holiday with wide acceptance, but a holy day with great spiritual teaching as well. To me, the giving of thanks is more than seasonal – it is life changing. During the years of my ministry, Psalms 116 has given to me the most solid teaching available on our responding to God’s goodness. It is a Psalm of David. And in verse 12 we hear him say “What shall I render unto Him for all His benefits to me?” And in this entire chapter, He makes the response that we need to make “I will offer to thee

Tuesday, October 26, 2021, County Judge Randy Moore called to order at 9:00 a.m., the Regular Meeting of the Fannin County Commissioners Court. Quorum was established as all County Commissioners and County Judge Randy Moore were present. Invocation was led by Pastor John Dennis of the Leonard Church of Christ. Pledges were led by Judge Moore. 4. Introductions: There were no introductions. 5. Discussion, consideration and action regarding Courthouse Restoration: Judge Moore read the update as follows: EXTERIOR – Installing stone pilaster on West entry; Patch, point up, and install veneers on North side; Install stone veneers along base of building on South and West sides; Beginning fiber/data vault installation (Sparklight). INTERIOR – Painting walls on 3rd and 2nd level; Millwork installing window extensions on 3rd level and wood cladding on beams in courtroom; Plaster patching various areas and cleaning up; Installing phone/data cabling throughout; Electrical completing various final connections and install of lighting; Ceramic tile installed in 2nd and 3rd level bathrooms. 6. Discussion, consideration and action regarding establishing a Reinvestment Zone and a Payment in Lieu of Taxes Agreement (PILOT) with Belltown Power for a battery storage facility in Fannin County: Austin Willis with Belltown Power returned to the Commissioners court to take part in a discussion with the Court to assist them in the decision regarding this agenda item. A discussion ensued with statements and questions coming from the court and various citizens in attendance regarding the differences between solar fields and a battery storage facility; how the battery operates; and what role the county has to do with this project. Judge Moore noted that how the company operates is the business of the company and that this discussion was only to determine if the county would be establishing a Reinvestment Zone and a payment in lieu of taxes agreement with Belltown Power. Commissioner
Lackey clarified by saying that if the agreement was not reached, Belltown Power would have to pay a larger amount in taxes than what they would if the agreement was reached. Judge Moore agreed with Commissioner Lackey’s summation and said that if an agreement was not in the best interest of the county a contract would not be created though he believes that it would be in the best interest of the county. A citizen from Leonard called in to ask if they would be considered tax exempt to which Judge Moore replied they were not. Another citizen in attendance asked if taxpayers would be paying for the cost of the building of this facility to which Judge Moore replied that it would not be costing the county anything. The cost of the facility would be solely on Belltown Power. Another question about a potential hazmat spill was answered by Mr. Willis with the assurance that language has been added to the contract with the landowner to cover that. Judge Moore stated today was just to determine whether they continue to move forward with steps to possibly come to an agreement with Belltown Power. Commissioner Magness made the motion to establish a Reinvestment Zone and a Payment in Lieu of Taxes Agreement between Belltown Power for a battery storage facility in Fannin County. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Lane and passed. 7. Discussion, consideration and action regarding KFYN Radio Tower: Fannin County Network Administrator Dustin Morrow began the discussion by explaining the tower is an AM tower that is approximately 173 foot tall and was built in 1948. He further explained how because the lease was changed, the owner of the tower had decided to discontinue leasing the land and had offered the county to keep the tower in lieu of him having it torn down. Discussion ensued about whether it could be an asset to the county during which time Dustin listed all those who were consulted for their thoughts and what the cost to the county would be to have it torn down if at some time its usefulness was nonexistent. The maintenance of the tower, possible liabilities

of the county, and possible revenue from leasing space was discussed. A citizen from Leonard called in with a question about leasing revenue and offered information about a tower climber. Fannin County District Attorney Richard Glaser questioned whether it could be considered a donation to the county as a fixture on county land with non-renewal of a lease, becomes the county’s option to have the lessee have it torn down or for the county to keep it. He also spoke of the liabilities that could exist in keeping the tower. After some discussion where it was determined there would be no cost to the county to have it taken down if it was decided there was no profitable reason to keep it, motion was made by Commissioner Magness to accept the tower and further determine what the county should do with it. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Self. Commissioner Lane questioned why the motion was needed as Attorney Glaser had noted it was already owned by the county. Judge Moore asked Fannin County Auditor Alicia Whipple if the lease contract was up which would mean the county was already the owner. Ms. Whipple stated it was not over till the 31st. After more discussion a vote was taken on the motion and motion passed. 8. Discussion, consideration and action to rent a steel wheel roller from ASCO Equipment, Inc. for one month at $3,300.00 for Precinct 1: Commissioner Lane stated this was needed for work on the roads and made a motion to approve the rental. Commissioner Self seconded the motion and motion passed. 9. Discussion regarding Road and Bridge salaries/ starting pay: Commissioner Lane began a discussion regarding the need for the county to pay a higher salary for workers who have certification like a truck driver with a CDL License. She spoke about the openings that exist in Pct 4 and Pct 1 and how she believes this may help in getting qualified certified workers on board. Commissioner Lackey agreed it would help but talked about how unless the budget is increased for Road and Bridge, higher salaries would reduce
the capital needed for supplies and equipment to get road work done. He added how something needs to be done to address the increases that continue in material. Judge Moore agreed with Commissioners Lane and Lackey and Commissioner Self noted if starting pay goes up, raises will also be needed for those who have already worked for the county for years. Discussion concluded with all agreeing that this was a matter where discussion did need to be continued. Judge Moore thanked Commissioner Lane for putting this on the agenda and reminded all, the county’s insurance was worth around $13,000 a year and was one good thing the county offered. 10. Discussion, consideration and action to approve payment of bills: Motion was made, seconded and passed to approve payment of bills. 11. Public Forum: The first citizen to speak, a citizen of Pct 2, first thanked the Commissioners for all the work they do and then spoke about work at a cemetery she and her husband take care of that is in Pct 1. The second citizen, the Director of the Open Arms Homeless Shelter in Bonham, spoke to thank the court for a $1,000 donation they had made to his shelter. The next citizen to speak, a citizen of Ravenna, quoted II Timothy 4:2-4 and spoke about the vaccine patent’s association with artificial intelligence. Another citizen from Ravenna, spoke about an extremely toxic chemical in the Covid-19 tests that are being used on the public and administered in our schools. A citizen attending via zoom called in to say the county should create a formal outline for addressing potential reinvestment zones. 12. Comments by County Commissioners and County Judge: Commissioner Lane thanked everyone for coming and commented on the upcoming events occurring Saturday the 30th. Commissioner Self also thanked everyone for coming to the meeting. Commissioner Magness spoke about the cost of the labor involved from the calls to move branches from roads and how it would be nice if more information was known on the size of the fallen foliage. Commissioner Lackey

Time Change and Alzheimer’s By Scott Finley - Daylight Saving Time will come to an official end at 2 AM on Sunday, November 7, 2021 when we set our clocks to “fall back” one hour. Of course, nobody sits up to do it at that time; we turn our clocks back before we go to sleep on Saturday night, or we do it in a panic on Sunday morning! The net result of this exercise is that we gain an extra hour of sleep. However, if you have friends and family in Arizona and Hawaii, these states do not observe this clock manipulation. Let’s look at research about
the relationship between sleep issues and dementia risk. ● Sleep apnea may cause Alzheimer’s-related masses to build up in your brain and increase your risk for memory problems. ● Regular healthy sleep may help your brain clean itself of dementia-causing lesions. ● More frequent use of sleep medications may be associated with higher risk of dementia. ● Research suggests that poor sleep habits in mid- and late-life may increase the risk for developing demen-
tia. Sleep disturbances are common among people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, including changes in sleep schedule and restlessness/wandering during the night. It has been reported that up to 45% of people with dementia may have sleep problems. Many people with Alzheimer’s wake up more often and stay awake longer during the night. Those who cannot sleep may wander, be unable to lie still, or yell or call out, disrupting the sleep of their caregivers. Experts estimate that in late stages of Alzheimer’s,

Letter to the Editor Dear Editor, On October 26th, the FDA approved emergency use authorization for the covid vaccine for children ages 5-11. In the coming days, weeks, and months, parents will be lining up at clinics and doctors offices to vaccinate their children. Despite the mass hysteria induced by the corporate media, facts are still facts, and science is still science. The truth is, children are 10 times more likely to die of suicide than covid. They are also more likely to die from the seasonal flu than covid. The number of children in America that have died from covid alone is less than 100. Also, the CDC and FDA have admitted that the covid vaccines do not prevent
infection nor do they stop the spread, so any arguments to the contrary are simply emotional hysteria and political pseudo science. Vaccine adverse reactions are no secret. One of the biggest concerns from doctors and health experts about vaccinating children is the risk of myocarditis (heart inflammation). This information was presented to the FDA panel publicly during their hearing, but the concerns of doctors presenting this information fell on deaf ears. Long-term effects are still unknown. Do not take my word on any of this. Research the information for yourself. Talk to your health care professional. I promise you that the info I
have stated is not being hidden, but it is definitely not being covered sufficiently by the corporate news media, politicians, and bureaucrats in Washington. Do what you believe is best for your children, but do not put your faith in government. Open your hearts to Jesus Christ, and know that lives of your family and children are in his hands. Press Release - As work finishes on the dam, Bois d’Arc Lake continues to gradually fill from 510 feet to the 534-foot full level. These elevation markers are measurements of the lake’s water level above sea level (0 feet). Once it fills to the 534-foot level, the lake’s depth will range from 70 to 20 feet deep. The shallower areas are still filling and not yet safe for recreational uses, including boating. Recreational activities will open after the lake is completely full and key safety requirements are met.

Checking in on Bois d’Arc Creek
Press Release - Scientists count fish types & numbers in Bois d’Arc Creek. This October, NTMWD collaborated with its contractor Freese and Nichols and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to conduct a second round of biological monitoring of Bois d’Arc Creek (the first round was conducted in August). The monitoring is part of the District’s permit requirements. During monitoring, scientists count the types and amounts of fish and aquatic insects to develop a picture of the creek’s overall health and its ability to support aquatic life. They catch and release various types of fish—including Photo by NTMWD. channel catfish, white crappie and bass—and record the quality of their habitat (see image to right). Preliminary results from the samplings show that the creek continues to support a diverse community of fish and insects. The creek will again be monitored in the third, fifth and 10th years since the lake began to fill.

Press Release - Pipe ready for installation - coated & lined to carry water from Bois d’Arc Lake. Steel water pipelines are designed with various corrosion protection measures to help them last up to and beyond their 50-year life
expectancy. Since pipes are buried in soil and wet conditions, which can be highly corrosive, both the new raw and treated water pipelines have: 1) An outside polyurethane coating to protect them from the corrosive na-
ture of the soil. 2) A mortar lining to protect them from rusting, strengthen the pipelines and help water flow through them efficiently. 3) Test stations installed along the pipelines to help monitor and track corrosion rates. “This also helps NTMWD regularly check and maintain the pipeline over its life,” explains Construction Manager Winston Silvia, who oversees the pipeline installations. With these and the District’s proactive maintenance measures in place, both pipelines can begin service with a long life expectancy.

Monoclonal Antibody Therapy Information
By Senator Bob Hall
There is a relatively littleknown but widely available treatment for COVID-19 that is safer, more effective, and already available to many individuals: monoclonal antibody therapy. This therapeutic is available at both private and government locations, and is always completely free at the latter. You and your family members should be aware of this treatment option, which can be life-saving and keep you out of the hospital. Monoclonal antibody therapy is a COVID-19 treatment option available to certain Texans who either have the illness, or who are at an exceptionally high risk of becoming ill. It works by infusing COVID-19 antibodies into a patient’s bloodstream. These antibodies target the coronavirus spike protein, resulting in a hindrance of the virus’ ability to adhere to and infect cells, therefore boosting the immune system’s response to COVID-19 and slowing the infection. Monoclonal antibody therapy requires a prescription, but
if you do not have a regular healthcare provider, you may call 1-877-332-6585 to speak with the Combat COVID-19 Monoclonal Antibodies Call Center for further direction. You qualify for monoclonal antibody therapy if: 1. You have tested positive for COVID-19, and 2. You have had mild to moderate symptoms of the disease for 10 days or less, and 3. You are at high risk of becoming seriously ill. Criteria for being high risk can include being overweight, pregnant, diabetic, etc. In addition, you must also be at least 12 years of age, and must weigh at least 88 pounds. You may also be able to qualify for monoclonal antibody treatment without a positive COVID-19 test if: 1. You are not fully vaccinated or don’t have enough protection from the vaccine, and 2. You have been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19. According to testimony at a recent Texas Senate hearing, monoclonal antibodies are safe and highly effective. An online map of infusion
centers available to the public may be found at https:// meds.tdem.texas.gov/. There are presently 24 state-sponsored infusion centers, and nearly 400 private locations. The treatment is completely free at state-sponsored locations. At the private locations, Medicare/Medicaid and some insurance policies will cover the cost. The number for the Infusion Hotline is 1-800-742-5990. You may call this hotline to set up an appointment with a state center, or to ask about the option of having a mobile infusion team deployed to help. For more information on monoclonal antibody therapy, visit https://www.dshs.texas. gov/coronavirus/therapeutics.

MORE SPEED. MORE RELIABILITY. MORE VALUE. Texas Crop and Weather Report — Oct. 25, 2021 CENTRAL: Temperatures were above normal and no rainfall was reported. Winter grazing pastures were stressing from lack of moisture in some areas. Some producers will replant oats due to the lack of rain. Cattle remained in good condition without supplemental feeding and stock tank levels held steady. Many producers were making final cuttings of hay. Armyworms continued to be a concern. Most counties reported good soil moisture and overall rangeland and pasture conditions. Overall crop conditions were mostly fair. EAST: Scattered rain fell across the region. Counties reported very dry soil. Subsoil and topsoil conditions were short to adequate. Cooler temperatures moved into the area. Winter forages looked good for those that received rain. Pasture and rangeland conditions were fair to good. Grass in some areas was turning brown. Marion County producers were finishing up their last cutting of hay. Volunteer ryegrass started to emerge in Cherokee County. Livestock were in fair to good condition. Cattle prices continued to decline. Producers were selling spring calves. Fall calves were being born. Wild pigs were active in some parts of Gregg County. Upshur County continued

predator and pest control. NORTH: Topsoil and subsoil moisture levels varied from adequate to short and were decreasing. A cool front brought a small amount of rain with cooler temperatures. The rain received was not enough to help dry soil conditions or decreasing pond levels. Bermudagrass pastures continued to decline due to shorter days, cooler nights and dry conditions. Stockpiled grass supplies were diminishing. Cotton harvests were in full swing. Some winter wheat was planted, but some producers were waiting due to the threat of armyworms. Weather
fluctuations caused some stress on livestock, but overall they were in good condition. Feral hog activity increased. WEST CENTRAL: Days were warm and nights were cool. Conditions were beginning to dry out. Cotton bolls were opening, and farmers began applying harvest aids. Stock tanks were still full, and pastures remained green. Producers were busy planting wheat and oat fields. Armyworms were terrible this year, and farmers were fighting to control them. Cattle prices were not very encouraging, but the sheep and goat market seemed good.

LINDA LEE LESLIE
or to the boarding program at The Hockaday School, Att: Development Office, 11600 Welch Road, Dallas, Texas 75229 (online at www.hockaday. org/makeagift.) Linda’s full obituary is posted at the website of the Cotten Funeral Home in New Bern.
LARRY DON DYSON SLEEP TIGHT, OUR LOVE Linda Lee Leslie, 79, of both Bailey, Texas and New Bern, N.C., passed away in her home in New Bern on Oct. 21 after a long illness. Linda had deep family roots in both Texas and New Bern, was a nonprofit fundraiser in Washington, D.C., and North Carolina, and served as managing partner of her family farm in Fannin County. Her ancestral roots in Bailey go back to her great-great grandfather Joseph Fenner, who received a land grant after serving in the Texas War of Independence as a member of Shackelford’s Company under Colonel James Fannin’s command in 1836. Because he was on a scout party, he and a handful of others survived the Goliad Massacre although his brother Robert Fenner died in the battle. That family history led Linda to New Bern in the early 1990s, after her cousin, the late Ruth Leslie Barrett of Bonham, determined the Fenner progenitors – Richard and Anne Coddington Fenner – immigrated there from Dublin, Ireland, in 1757. A lawyer from a prominent legal family in Dublin, Richard served in several positions under then-North Carolina colonial Gov. Arthur Dobbs. Two sons, Richard Jr. and Linda’s great-great-great-great grandfather Robert, were officers in the Second Regiment, North Carolina Continental Line during the Revolutionary War In 1992, Linda and family partners purchased the thendilapidated property that her Fenner ancestors acquired in 1759, returning it to family ownership for the first time in two centuries with plans of an academic restoration. The Fenner house continues under restoration today. For more than a half century, Linda was an ardent advocate of women’s equality, and she also wrote historical travel stories that were published in The Washington Post, The Dallas Morning News, the Boston Globe, The Tennessean in Nashville and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Born in Sherman, Texas, on Dec. 21, 1941, to John T. and Mary Nell Lipsey Leslie, Linda grew up on her family farm in Bailey and attended The Hockaday School in Dallas. She earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in history from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Linda is survived her companion of 39 years, Bill Choyke; her son, J. Rodney Brister II, and his wife Priscilla Non and granddaughter Elizabeth Anne Brister, all of Washington, D.C.; and her daughter, Linnie Lee Brister of North Texas and her significant other John Carter. She was proceeded in death in 2012 by her younger sister Doris (Sallie) Leslie, and her parents. Celebrations of Linda’s life will be in Texas and New Bern in the coming months. The family requests that any donations be made in her name to either The New Bern Academy, c/o Tryon Palace, P.O. Box 1007, New Bern, NC 28563 (online at tryonpalacefoundation.org);
Larry Don Dyson passed away on October 21, 2021. He was born October 2, 1944, in Durant, OK to the late Ralph and Emma Faye Hawkins Dyson. He was a lifelong member of Yuba Baptist Church. He was raised in Yuba, OK and graduated from Yuba High School in 1962. He was a proud Yuba Roadrunner and was very active in 4H and sports. He took great pride in being from Yuba, working closely with his father, his uncle, brother, and cousins on the family farm. Following graduation from high school, Larry went to Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He was a member of the Sigma Tau Fraternity and remained close friends with many of his brothers throughout his life. He loved rodeos and bull riding. He often said that 3 things got in the way of his rodeo career: his height, his width, and his Mama. Larry had a 44-year career in the automobile business, with the last 21 years being at Larry Dyson Motors in Durant, OK. Because he was such an outgoing, people person, his customers and employees became family. His employees called him boss, but he was always their friend and supporter. Larry was very active in the Durant community with Kiwanis, Lions Club, SEOSU Presidential Partners and SEOSU Rodeo Boosters. He was also a Mason belonging to lodges in Durant and Bonham, TX. He was also a member of the Shriners. Larry Dyson Motors sponsored American Legion Baseball from 1998 to 2014. Larry took great pride in knowing that his support of the program enabled many players to earn college scholarships. He also mentored students and athletes from Southeastern. Thanks to cell phones and social media, Larry has kept in touch with many of these Southeastern students and enjoyed following their children in their sporting events throughout his retired years. Larry was inducted into the SEOSU Rodeo Hall of Fame in November of 2019. This was one of his proudest moments. He was recognized for his many contributions to the rebirth and success of their program. Larry had a lifelong love for horses. He and Judy remained active in breeding and racing thoroughbred horses. He absolutely loved being at the track and if he couldn’t be, he would watch on tv or online. He was well respected and loved in the racing community. The names Rare Cure, Tricky Crew, Enough Sal, and Cat Daddy will always be a part of our family. He also loved the land and the crops. He loved cattle and dogs. He loved old country and western music and old gospel music. He
had a great love for all sports and especially when his grandchildren were playing. If he couldn’t attend their games, he would find them online. He also had a great love for Las Vegas. He was known at the blackjack and craps tables and in the sporting book, especially during the National Finals Rodeo. The Golden Nugget in Las Vegas was one of his favorite places to be. If you knew Larry, you were a friend. He loved his friends, telling stories and talking on the phone to them. During his retired years, his phone would start ringing at 7:00 am and he’d talk nonstop about cars, sports, horses, grandkids and so much more. He also loved a good Dyson family reunion. He never missed one and he often took the floor and gave a speech. He was very proud of his heritage. If you knew him, you also knew that Judy, his kids, grandchildren, and great granddaughters were his pride and joy. He tried his very best to keep up with each and everyone’s activities and interests. He was their Pa and the strongest man they will ever know. On August 3, 2004, Larry suffered a spinal cord injury in a farming accident. He was given a 50% chance of walking again. He spent the past 17 years proving them wrong. He worked hard every day to get stronger, to be able to walk again and be able to get in his truck and go do the things he loved. This will be his legacy he leaves his family. His grit. His attitude. His fight. He never complained. He just worked every day to make the best of his situation. He is our hero. Larry is survived by his wife, Judy, of 40 years. His son, David Dyson and wife, Shana of Elk City, OK. His daughter, Tracy Dyson, of Bonham, TX and his daughter, Karla O’Hara and husband, Patrick, of Edmond, OK. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Dustin and Kelly Ford, Bailey and Layton Ford, Corbin and Jacy Dyson, Berek and Kelsey Dyson and Colin Dyson, Sydney, Will and Drew O’Hara, Chelsea and Tyler Downing and Hudson. And great granddaughters, Lake, Harper and Dyson Ford and Mia and Halle Dyson. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Keene of Richardson, TX, and brother, Ralph Dyson of Ft. Forth, TX. He was their baby brother and he loved them very much. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. A celebration of the life for Larry Dyson was held at the Boyd Baptist Church in Bonham, Texas on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Larry’s name to the Bonham Animal Shelter or the Rodeo Team at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses, aides, and therapists who helped Larry. You are true heroes. SPORTS SPORTS Few Fannin County teams make 2021 v’ball playoffs
By Rich Hilliard
Only a few Fannin County volleyball teams will compete in November in the postseason. Dodd City has advanced as District 16-2A’s top seed to the Region II-1A postseason. It will be the Lady Hornets’ 27th postseason in the last 32 years. Last fall, Dodd City advanced to the regional finals for the first time in the sport since 2001. Savoy has advanced as 162A’s No. 2 seed to the Region II-1A postseason. It will be the Lady Cardinals’ seventh-consecutive postseason, after being a bidistrict finalist last fall. Meanwhile, Bonham on Oct. 26 forced a play-in with Whitewright for the fourth and final postseason berth in 11-3A with a 25-20, 25-12, 24-26, 2518 road district finale win over the Lady Tigers. The play-in winner will face 12-3A champion Prairiland on Monday or Tuesday in the Region II-3A bi-district round. The Lady Warriors, a 2019 Region II-3A quarterfinalist, sought to make their third postseason appearance in the last four seasons. Last fall, COVID-19 prompted the forfeiture of Bonham’s last three district matches. An ensuing fivegame fourth-place play-in loss to Bells left the Lady

Bee Careful! A swarm of bees attacked a rancher utilizing an open top bulldozer to clear brush from his property when he inadvertently ran over their hive. Unable to be removed from his vehicle, a ranch hand covered him in blankets and called emergency services for assistance. Supported by local EMS, Sheriff’s Department, and Eldorado Volunteer Fire Department, Schleicher and Sutton County Game Wardens responded to the incident. The volunteer fire department sprayed down the area to remove some of the bees. One of the responding wardens, an avid beekeeper in his spare time, applied his knowledge to reach the rancher. Wearing his personal beekeeping suits, the wardens and sheriff were able to remove the man from the bulldozer. Since the area was inaccessible to EMS vehicles, the wardens cleared their truck and transported the severely
stung operator to EMS vehicles who were waiting to take him to the hospital. He recovered from his injuries. Tubin’ to the Oldies Real and Uvalde County Game Wardens received a call about a 67-year-old man who had been separated from his family while tubing down the river. After interviewing the family and the outfitter, wardens determined that the tuber failed to exit at the designated area and continued downstream. One of the wardens drove to a nearby ranch where he launched a drone in an attempt to locate the tuber. At the same time the other warden spoke to the foreman of the ranch and requested assistance in locating the tuber. The foreman spoke to a group of tubers who said they saw the individual. The information was relayed to both wardens and based off their tips, the wardens located the individual and returned him to his family.

Mother Knows Best Over the Memorial Day weekend, game wardens conducting water safety patrols were sent videos of a male jumping off a red and white boat, harassing and capturing a Canada Goose. Despite efforts to locate the boat and the individuals involved, wardens were unable to track them down. Two months later while conducting a water safety check on a different boat, the same wardens who initially received the videos noticed several of the occupants on the vessel wearing identical hats to those in the video. One of the Wardens humorously asked about the hats and if they knew the individual who had caught the goose in the video. The occupants confirmed they knew him and affirmed their knowledge of the “goose video”. They pointed to a male in the back of the boat and identified him as the “goose capturer”. The Wardens asked the identified male to join them on their boat for further questioning. The male admitted he was the one in the video and said his mom had warned him that he was going to get into trouble. He added, “I should’ve listened to my mom!” Wardens explained to the individual the definition of “Hunt,” according to Texas law is “To capture, trap, take or kill, or any attempts thereof.” Accordingly, the individual was issued a citation for “Hunting Canada Geese in a Closed Season.” He was also issued a written warning for “Hunting Canada Geese by Illegal Means and Methods.” The goose survived.
