NTMWD Presents Adopted Shoreline Management Plan To Fannin County Plan for Bois d’Arc Lake balances water supply and environmental protection with recreational uses
WYLIE, TX – Nov. 17, 2020: The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) presented the adopted Shoreline Management Plan (SMP) for
Bois d’Arc Lake to the Fannin County Commissioners Court today. The NTMWD Board of Directors approved the plan at its October 2020 meeting. The SMP
07/02/19 protection of the future reservoir
will guide use of the shoreline up to the 541 ft. elevation, which is owned by NTMWD and includes the 100-year flood level. The plan is designed to balance
as a source of drinking water and wildlife habitat with safe recreational uses and sustainability. “In addition to being a criti-
cal new water source for North Texas, Bois d’Arc Lake will have a major economic impact on Fannin County,” said Rodney Rhoades, interim NTMWD
from everyone at the
Utter Family Dealerships
executive director. “Much work has gone into striking the right balance to protect the future lake and shoreline while providing economic and recreational opportunities,” Rhoades added. In addition to protecting the lake as a key water source and recreation amenity, the SMP will: • Offer a shared vision for the lake and its proper use; • Create shoreline classifications to help NTMWD properly consider and balance different factors affecting the lake and shoreline; • Provide direction for private property owners on approved uses of the shoreline; and, • Promote appropriate and safe recreational uses of the lake. NTMWD will manage uses allowed on the shoreline through shoreline use agreements with property owners. Activities that may be authorized include boat docks, fishing piers and placement of recreational facilities on the adjacent shoreline, such as picnic tables, patios, BBQ pits and more. Conditions will be verified through a site visit as part of the approval process for shoreline use agreements. Fees for shoreline use agreements are also included in the plan. District staff will soon begin developing the processes required for obtaining shoreline use agreements. Applications will not be accepted until this process is complete and the NTMWD Board approves the accepting of applications. NTMWD has posted the approved SMP on the Bois d’Arc Lake website (https:// boisdarclake.org/construction/ bois-darc-lake-shoreline-management-plan).

Hello Care Partners,
The Holiday season is quickly approaching and with everything we do to prepare to share these special moments with Family and Friends, it can be very time consuming. In addition, staying safe from the current Covid-19 pandemic, adds even more difficulty to our limited time. At Transcend Hospice of TexOma we understand how important Family is and how making the best of each moment is crucial. It is never easy to discuss and begin Hospice services during these times of celebration. Our approach is simple. We look at each person needing our services as Family and will provide the care they need just as we would for one of our own. This allows the Family members of a hospice patient to not only be a part of their loved one’s care but gives them extra time, knowing the patient is receiving exceptional care and allows them the time to prepare and share in the holiday celebrations. If you know of someone who has a debilitating illness that is treated by the most medications possible, give us a call. We would be honored to provide the professional care they deserve. Please contact us at anytime for information or a consultation on hospice criteria and benefits. Billy G. WHOEVER CLINGS TO HIS LIFE WILL LOSE IT; AND WHOEVER LOSES THEIR LIFE FOR MY SAKE WILL FIND IT. Matt. 10:39
JESUS TO THE CHURCH IN SARDIS: Revelation 3:1-6. To the angel of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of the One who holds the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation for being alive, yet you are dead. Wake up and strengthen what remains, which is about to die; for I have found your deeds incomplete in the sight of My God. Remember, then, what you have received and heard. Keep it and repent. If you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know the hour when I will come upon you. But you do have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their garments, and because they are worthy, they will walk with Me in white. Like them, he who overcomes will be dressed in white. And I will never blot out his name from the Book of Life, but I will confess his name before My Father and His angels. He who has ears that can hear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The Letter to Sardis is the shortest letter that Jesus wrote to the churches in Revelation just prior to revealing God’s plan for the world. Jesus had no words of encouragement, only warning. Sardis thought they were alive and well because they were living on their past glory and reputation. The plight of the city of Sardis gives insight into the mind and thinking of the Sardis citizenry that brought them to this point. Sardis’ past was one of luxury, but Sardis was destined to become an obscure village with extensive ruins. Sardis was a city on a mountain surrounded with steep cliffs. The topography of the city was thought to be impregnable to its enemies. With only one narrow entrance into the city, Sardis was so sure they were protected they became arrogant and complacent, refusing to protect the entrance to their city. They went about their daily lives and gave no thought to the enemy that lurked at their gate. They had been attacked and conquered twice to no avail. They refused to heed the warning and made no significant changes to security. The Church of Jesus Christ was operating with the same worldview. The Church in Sardis upheld a stellar reputation in the community. Their programs were well received; they probably had activities for every age group. They certainly were heavily involved in the community for their reputation was one of being an ALIVE organization. But they had lost their purpose and their message. Jesus said……………. YOU ARE DEAD! What you are doing, Sardis, does not measure up. You are lacking. Sardis escaped the community’s criticism because they had taken on their habits. They fit in, and in so doing, broke the first of God’s Commandments, “You shall have no other Gods before Me.” Exodus 20:3. We know this because the idolatrous worship of one Cybele, the mothergoddess, demanded that her subjects maintain strict physical cleanliness, approaching her only in gleaming white robes. However, her worship services were sensual in nature and morally debased. Her followers engaged in sexual immorality and the darkest of celebrations. Jesus addressed HIS congregation by calling attention to their Spiritual Clothing. They were stained with friendship with the world. The Church of Sardis had mingled their worship of the One True God with idolatry. They were accepted by the world but rejected by their Savior on whose name their church was built. Their light had gone out. Their epithet: HERE LIES SARDIS. THE LIGHT OF THE SPIRIT HAS GONE OUT. Yet, Jesus said, there are still a few in Sardis who are not stained by the world. They, He said, were worthy and would walk with Him in White. And to those in His church who are in the world’s coma, He said, “WAKE UP!” Strengthen yourselves…Remember what You received from ME and REPENT. (Turn around and go the other way). The Mercy and Grace of God in Jesus Christ is an incredible gift, but it does not permit us to abuse His Grace by adopting the world’s way, which will always conflict with God’s Spirit. We were given a commission by Jesus Christ Himself to tell everyone the Good News that His death for us provides HIS eternal life to anyone who will embrace HIM. Jesus said to HIS BODY (His Church), “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 Like Sardis, the City on the Hill, the Church of Jesus Christ will either shine in the present darkness, or it will, like Sardis, plummet into obscurity because the Light of the Life of Jesus has gone out. Lord Jesus, You are King of Kings, Lord of Lords and the Only Living One. Help us, Your church, that YOU have called out from this world for the sole purpose of bringing in a harvest of men, women, and children into your Kingdom. Please unite us in YOUR purpose. Strengthen us by Your Spirit. Please renew our minds so we are focused on Your Mission. Open our eyes that we can see our own complacency. Please test us so we can see areas of sickness that bring death to your church. Put us under Your light so we can see what You see. Holy Spirit, please help us to understand your constant presence. Teach us about the limitless Love of God – Jesus Christ. Help us to be your priests on this earth – to Love like You Love and to Forgive like You forgave us. Please give us an appetite for Your Word and discernment to understand. Please teach us how to dress ourselves in Your Armor, as you have equipped us with all the necessary tools needed to live out the life You gave us. Lord, we do not want to have a form of godliness. We want to be filled with Your Spirit and Power for YOUR GLORY. We don’t want to be empty-handed when You return. Please prepare us in readiness. In Jesus Name, we pray. Signed: Teri Sheddy

17th at 9:00 a.m. A quorum was established as three Commissioners and the County Judge were present. Commissioner Whitlock was absent. The invocation was led by David Woodson. The pledges were led by Maj. James Manis. There were no Introductions and no one spoke in Public Forum. 6. Discussion, consideration, and action regarding the Fannin County Declaration of Disaster Proclamation for Covid-19: Judge Moore expressed disappointment over not having better news regarding Covid-19 numbers in Fannin County. Citing numbers obtained from the DSHS website, he said as of 4:55 p.m. Monday 16th, there were: 896 total
cases, 57 active cases (with 11 of those being in prison), 827 recovered cases and 24 fatalities. Those numbers bring the current hospitalization percentage to 13.42%. The Judge noted that if that number hits 15% and stays there for seven days, there may be a need to revisit the shut down of some facilities with bars being an example. He did note however that some on the active list will be dropping off this Friday as they reach their 2-week quarantine. Testing for Covid-19 will be available 11/19 thru 11/21 in Honey Grove, 11/30 thru 12/03 in Bonham and 12/7 thru 12/11 in Leonard. Times are generally 9:00 a.m. thru 5:00 p.m. Judge Moore noted testing in other locations (such

Motion to extend Proclamation one week was made, seconded and passed. 7. Discussion, consideration and action regarding the Covid-19 Response and Continuity of Operations Plan for Fannin County: Judge Moore exhorted all county workers to continue with high caution to prevent Covid-19. Motion was made, seconded and passed to extend Operations Plan for one week. 8. Discussion regarding NTMWD’s Shoreline Management Plan for Bois d’Arc Lake: Billy George with the NTMWD expressed his appreciation to come before the Commissioners Court to share the current status regarding Bois d’Arc Lake. Before introducing Galen Roberts to
give the presentation of the recently adopted “Bois d’Arc Lake Shoreline Management Plan”, he noted that Jason Stroup was recently hired by Lake Manager Jennifer Stanley to lead the permit coordination efforts for the lake and referred those desiring more information after the presentation to contact Public Relations Representative, Jeff McKito and/or their website for more info. Afterward, Galen Roberts, the Technical Support Manager for the project, came to the podium to expound on key elements of the Shoreline Management Plan. He emphasized that though the SMP has been completed and adopted by their board, it is a living document with potential for revisions. He touched on the Shoreline Classifications: Restricted, Environmentally Sensitive, Limited Development, Dock Capable and Public Access/Commercial. He also explained the four different Agreement Types (permits), the criteria involving permits, terms and conditions, and costs involved for adjacent landowners in obtaining the permit/permits they desire. Ending on the note that the goal is still to balance a great drinking water lake with safe recreational use and sustainability for the community. After his presentation, Judge Moore asked how the funds obtained from the permit costs would benefit Fannin County. Billy George fielded that question with the response that basically the fees would offset all of the costs resulting from the implementation of the permit program and private dock programs and was not out of line with permit costs currently in place at other lakes. He gave Lake Ray Hubbard as an example of a lake where five year dock permits currently are costing $2,000 to $2,800. It was also made known that permit applications are not available just yet, but will most likely be made available sometime in 2021. For further information and to view the specifics contained in the SMP is: https://boisdarclake.org/ construction/bois-darc-lakeshoreline-management-plan. 9. Discussion and update regarding Courthouse Restoration: Judge Moore did not receive a construction update but did note that he could tell there has been more stonework going up. His observation was shared by Commissioner Lackey who also noted more steel framework has gone up over doorways on the East side that would support the balcony area. 10. Discussion, consideration and action to approve Treasurer’s Financial Report for October 2020:

On November 29, 1941, I followed through with that plan by making a public commitment before God and my community to surrender my life to church service. God had other things in mind for me for Pearl Harbor Day came one week later and my college preparation and that dream was put on hold. The next three years of my life were given to military service. the joy of working together for His glory and building a beautiful family together. I am thankful for his gift of love and family. As our society becomes increasingly secular, the actual “giving” of thanks to God during this holiday season can easily be overlooked. May God grant that He may find us grateful every day for all of His gifts, spiritual and material. God is good and every good gift comes from Him. For those who know Christ, we can be thankful that God works everything together for good even events we would not necessarily consider good. No holiday is comparable to Thanksgiving. We do not

With the pandemic surging faster than ever in the world, who can we blame? We’ll have to leave it with the individuals who refused to protect themselves, or anyone else for that matter. If wearing a mask, distancing ourselves, and not frequenting places where masks were not required would have helped, why all the fuss about having to wear them? The argument is we’re free, nobody is telling us what to do!! I’m not wearing a mask, and even if it does protect you from

me, I don’t care! We’re told it’s airborne, it stays on surfaces. What you’ve touched, somebody else has touched. Lots of people are losing their lives, who thought masks wouldn’t help. But maybe masks would have. Life or death – you choose! Another thing I don’t understand is: Do we want freedom? Do we really think it free? Lots of Veterans Know It’s not!! Why would a “free” nation trade the kind of lifestyle we like for a “Socialist regime.” It didn’t work in any other country. That’s why America has so many different kinds of people coming here in whatsoever way they can get here. Why are people so blind? Ask the different kinds, why? Edith Fuller

WHY CLEAN YOUR CAR? Your automobile is an investment. To protect your investment, regularly removing harmful elements is essential. Over time, the sun, heat, cold and ice can dull your car’s luster. By removing these you will prolong the appearance and maintain that “just bought” look that first attracted you. Ultimate Washes are a great way to protect your investment. Judge Blake, Judge Moore and Sheriff Johnson delivered meals to sponsors for this year’s Justice Is Served which raised more than $60,000 for the Fannin County Children’s Center. Press Release - The 16th annual Justice Is Served was different in many ways due to the pandemic. “One thing that was not different was the generosity of this community,” said Sandy Barber, Executive Director of the Fannin County Children’s Center. “Fannin County turned out BIG for kids from hard places. Once again, we are grateful and so encouraged by such an awesome show of support.” Early estimates are that the event raised at least $60,000 to sustain the services provided by the Children’s Center, including CASA and the Children’s Advocacy Center. By comparison, it was the third best year ever. This event raised $66,000 to $67,000 in each of the last two years. This year’s event was a 3-day virtual event and the leaders of the nonprofit were not sure what to expect. The first day of the event was the baked goods auction which raised a record breaking $4,475. The rest of the items traditionally in the silent auction were in an on-line
auction that lasted two days. On the third day of the event, there was a live stream starting at 7 pm on Saturday night. Board President Steve Collida and Barber acted as hosts for the program. Fannin County Game Warden Randolph McGee was the auctioneer for the evening. A 5-day getaway to Broken Bow donated by Sunshine Dental raised $3,000 in the live auction. The Courage Item donated by the Board of Directors sold for $2,550. This mystery gift turned out to be a trip to the Gaylord Resort with spa and meal packages. A lastminute auction item of a fishing trip on Lake Texoma with the Game Warden brought in the highest bids of the evening of $3,200. The raffle winner was announced during the live stream. Samantha Farris won the guided fishing trip on Lake Texoma that was donated by Jason Garner Custom Welding. Before the Saturday night live stream, ten honorable servers delivered dinner to some of the event sponsors. Fannin Coun-
ty Judge Randy Moore, 336th District Judge Lauri Blake, Judge Charles Butler, District Attorney Richard Glaser, Fannin County Sheriff Mark Johnson, Judge Bob Clemons, Judge Kenneth Karl, District Clerk Nancy Young, Juvenile Probation Chief Brandon Caffee and Adult Probation Chief Corey Baker delivered
dinners and desserts prepared by local restaurants. The Children’s Center also premiered several new videos during the live stream that tell the stories of the services they provide and their dreams for the future. For more about the Children’s Center, go to www. fanninccc.org.

VENITA MATLOCK
Born August 6, 1937 to Alexander “A.A.” and Bernettie Taylor Matlock, Venita Matlock’s address changed for the last time on November 16, 2020. She is now in her heavenly home with family and friends who have gone before her. Venita lived her entire life in Fannin County, only two places of residence. She lived for 60 years at the family home place and 23 years at Seven Oaks Nursing Center in Bonham. Venita moved to Seven Oaks when she was 60 years old. She loved taking care of other residents who were not as mobile as she was, frequently making trips to the vending machines for them. Venita won the hearts of many staff members at Seven Oaks. Her life would have been very different without Mary Caldwell, PT Sandy Stevens, Kathy Bateman (Sylvie) and so many nurses and aides over her 23 years of residence. The family thanks you immensely. A singer of old, old songs, Venita loved Little Jimmy Dickens’ music and knew most of his songs by heart. Aunt Nita was a treasure to her nieces and nephews. When they were growing up, she was growing up with them. If anyone had candy or ice cream, she would always say, “Arithmetic says to divide!” She would follow that with a giggle, every time. Aunt Nita made trips to Grandma and Grandads’ a lot of fun. In later years, when she and her brother Earl were the last residents at the home place, Aunt Nita continued to cook meals as if she was cooking for Cox’s Army. There was always fried chicken and then whatever else went with it. Over the years, a lot of people have taken care of Venita. She would need a ride to church if Earl wasn’t going. She rode with friends from Sandy Baptist for years, Rachel Cunningham, mostly. Then, when they moved their membership to Corinth Baptist, Loreen Walker was her primary way to and from church. Loreen would go to Seven Oaks to get Venita and then take her back after services many, many times. The church trips on Sunday were a highlight of her life. She loved staying in touch with the friends she had there. Sharing old times and old memories was a favorite past time for Venita. She had a very sharp memory of her childhood years, always good for a sweet story about Grandma, Grandad, Earl and the other brothers and sisters. Venita was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, William Earl, Luther James, John Clide, Junior Alexander; sisters, Mary Ettie Matlock, Barbara Young, Pauline Underwood Lockaby and Merle Blake. Also preceding her in death, precious to her, were; a niece, Vivian Elaine Blake and nephews; Cleatus Alexander Meek, Robert Matlock, Jimmy Luther Underwood, David Ray Blake and Henry Earl (Bo) Underwood. She is survived by one sister, Vivian Meek of Bonham; nieces, Shirley Blake Byrne, Marilee Young Samuelson, Donna Young Wallace, and Connie Meek Estes; nephews, Tim Meek and Jackie Underwood; as well as many extended family members and a host of friends. The family will announce a gathering at a future date for family and friends. Venita’s was a life worth celebrating. She was a happy person and brought a lot of joy to those around her. Her smile, her love, and her antics will be missed. Thank you to Wise Funeral Home for their caring and compassion.

ASA JOE NORMAN
CHARLES EDWARD STONE, JR.
Lee Alan Westbrook, funny man, serial hobbyist, and fixer of all things died on Thursday, November 12, 2020. He was born to Morris and Berniclee (Bea) Westbrook on August 7, 1955 and is one of four siblings. Much of Lee’s youth was spent running around The Farm in Elwood with older brother, Robert Westbrook, 11/24/20 and younger brother, Michael Westbrook. In his adolescence, his younger sister, Sandra Daniels, looked up to him as a talented trumpet player, and was inspired to join the marching band herself because of his example. Lee met his former wife of 37 years playing tennis in 1975. They were married in ‘76, and had three daughters together between the years of 1981 and 1990: Chrystine, Nicole, and Petra. He was a family man, working at his own automotive upholstery shop during the week, and returning home to his family every night, in time for dinner. He passed his dry wit and sarcastic, but fun, humor to all three of his children. He tickled them until they cried and teased them endlessly, laughing when they got frustrated. He kept a beautiful yard, decorated grandly for Christmas, and had a fondness for cooking. He was so proud when his first grandchild, Haylea, was born in 2000, and doted on her accordingly. In the early aughts he moved on to a job in aviation upholstery, and most of the family moved to the St. Louis area. Lee returned to Texas about eight years ago, and began to build a home on The Farm, that same piece of land on which he ran around with his brothers, and where his parents lived. He took care of the farm as his dad passed, and then his mom, and though they’re gone, he’s turned a bit of undeveloped earth there into a beautiful haven for himself, and continued making improvements to his abode there, to the pleasure of his only local daughter, Chrystine, and his second grandchild, Max. He began a vegetable garden, kept bees, and attempted to feed local wildlife. He finally got that Harley he said he always wanted. He went to local dances before gathering restrictions began, and took up pool at the Bonham VFW after, playing there, and then at Juba’s when the VFW closed temporarily. He loved talking to his non-local kids on the phone, and wished to visit them, and to get his know third grandchild, Aubrie, better, and to meet baby Daxton, grandchild number four. Those of us who knew him well will remember Lee’s snap of a laugh, and the way he admired us, and cared for us. We’ll remember how goofy he was, how handy, and what he achieved during his lifetime. We’ll think of him when the weather changes, and during a beautiful sunrise or set. When the moon is full, and when the night sky is clear. We’ll think of him when we see orchids or taste inferior tomato soup or salsa. We’ll keep him alive in our hearts and our stories, as time moves on without him. We’ll think of him, and we’ll think well.

RAVENNA, Texas – Ravenna Volunteer Fire Department now has a new 3,000-gallon water tender thanks to a cost share grant through the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program administered by Texas A&M Forest Service. The tender also has a remotecontrolled deck gun, back-up camera and can pump water from a pool or other water source. “This new addition to our fleet will help to meet any challenges that we may have had in water availability in the more remote places of our protection area,” said Ravenna VFD Fire Chief Andy Walker. Ravenna VFD and other mutual aid departments work together to offer fire service to
their communities and rural areas. “The tender will not only benefit our department but the surrounding departments that we mutual aid with,” said Walker. “It is important to be able to function as one unit when responding as a mutual aid department so we trained together on this tender allowing us to work as a well-oiled machine when the call comes for a big wildland or structure fire.” Fire Chief Walker appreciates community support even in these uncertain times of COVID19. “This year we missed our fund raisers but some of the community still sent in a few donations,” said Walker. “Hopefully in the near future we can have
an event and show off our new tender that is so important to fire suppression in our area.” Texas A&M Forest Service is committed to protecting lives and property through the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program, a cost share program funded by Texas State Legislature and administered by Texas A&M Forest Service. This program provides funding to rural Volunteer Fire Departments for the acquisition of firefighting vehicles, fire and rescue equipment, protective clothing, dry-hydrants, computer systems and firefighter training. Triumph Via Teamwork: DC’s Mauppin returns to State x-country after layoff due to COVID-19 quarantine
By Rich Hilliard
DODD CITY -- Making it to State in any sport equates an accomplishment. Nothing guarantees a repeat trip will follow. Making it back to the Class 1A State girls cross country competition would have been an accomplishment for Dodd City’s Lindsey Mauppin. However, it also seemed most likely. Last fall, she placed 25th in 13:06.7 in the 1A State girls race and earned all-state honors in 1A in cross country from the Texas Girls Coaches Association. But the sophomore encountered an obstacle -- one all too common in 2020 -- en route back to Round Rock: COVID-19. Mauppin, who had led the Lady Hornets team thus far this season, had to enter a COVID-19 quarantine with other family members in late October. “She ran at Commerce (on Oct. 17) and then at the regional meet (on Nov. 9), but had to miss (the practice meet) at Miller Grove and district,” said Dodd City head cross country coach Bruce Mauppin, who joined daughter Lindsey and son Brody, a junior, in the quarantine. In the meantime, Lindsey Mauppin, while at home, could only try to stay ready -- and hope. “My brother (Brody),” she said, “ran with me every day to help me practice.” However, whether she would have a chance to run again at

On Nov. 9, Lindsey Mauppin finished sixth in the overall standings of the girls 3200m Region III-1A race in 13:39.64 at the Jesse Owens Memorial Athletic Complex in Dallas to individually qualify. “It’s amazing [to advance again]. I could not have done it without my teammates,” she said. “They got me to regionals to compete.” “It hurt her not competing versus the boys at practice,” said Coach Mauppin. “For her to maintain her workouts while at home, it shows a lot about her -- how she stayed in shape and competitive. “Also, her teammates had to finish in the top two at district for her to have Dodd City sophomore Lindsey a chance to run at reMauppin runs on Nov. 16 as part gionals to give her the of her preparation for a second- opportunity,” he said, straight trip to the Class 1A State “I’m as proud of her girls cross country competition on teammates as I am of her.” Nov. 23 in Round Rock. Junior Tori Dotson garnered six kills with a dig and an ace, junior Kylee Graves had four assists and three digs and sophomore Rion Baccus made four kills with a dig for Dodd City, which bettered its previous two postseason campaigns in volleyball by two rounds. Sophomore Camryn McCarley added two blocks for the Lady Hornets who will graduate only the aforementioned seniors off the 2020 team.

Volleyball team falls just short of being 1A DC’s latest State squad Class 1A Dodd City. It’s happened in girls basketball thrice, softball twice and once in baseball. Dodd City’s deepest postseason volleyball advance in 19 years ended just short of State on Nov. 13. And, it took a 2019 1A state semifinalist to do it. No. 3 Blum assured itself of a second-straight trip to State -- and second in the last four seasons -- with a 26-24, 25-18, 25-13 defeat of No. 5 Dodd City at Mabank High School in the Region II-1A volleyball final. Announces SB 197 by Senator Jane Nelson will help countless animal rescue groups across the state Austin Texas – November 18 – Texas Pets Alive! is thrilled to announce that Senator Jane Nelson (R-Denton/ Tarrant Counties) has introduced Senate Bill 197, which will exempt nonprofit rescue groups from paying sales tax on adoption fees. Texas Pets Alive! is a nonprofit 501(c) (4)

organization purposed to protect and further the No Kill movement in Texas to end the killing of homeless pets. “The spirit of this law is to exempt rescue organizations as they work to find forever homes for stray animals. This is the right thing to do and will help connect more animals to people who will love and care for them,” Senator Nelson said. “At a time when the human-pet connection is more important than ever, Senator Nelson seeks to make it more feasible for more pets to be adopted at a lower cost,” said, Lorri Michel, board member of Texas Pets Alive! Michel added, “We are so excited and grateful that Senator Nelson has introduced this bill which will help rescue groups across the state and lower the cost of pet adoption fees.”
