Is Celebrate Recovery For Me?

Celebrate Recovery offers a person the opportunity to participate in a group where love and hope combine with God’s purpose to mend our lives. Ask yourself: • Are there things in my life that I do to hurt others? • Is there something I wish I could live without? • Is there something in my life that has gotten out of control? • Do I have a habit or hang-up from which I need to be freed? For some time now, they’ve had someone, presumably an employee, standing at the entrance to verify each person coming in has a mask on. Well, that’s fine except once inside, many people just take them off and begin their shopping. Hard to figure out the Walmart logic on that one. With so many people reported to carry the virus with no apparent symptoms, if they’re

not wearing a mask, they can easily infect other customers who are indeed wearing the simple little masks everyone else might be wearing. Only an N95 mask will protect us in that instance. I recently asked a mask less customer why he wasn’t wearing one. He angrily replied, because he didn’t believe all the nonsense about the virus. More than once I’ve complained to the store

manager about the issue. He simply replies , “ well, we can’t make people wear masks inside the store “. NONSENSE SIR ! Of course you can. When all else fails you can politely ask them to leave. Having Leukemia with its resulting impact on my immune system you can bet your boots Walmart doesn’t get very much of my business anymore. Philip Conrad

Giving Thanks for Christmas

By Bro. Bill Beasley

“The people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in shadow of death a light has dawned.” - Matthew 4:16 NASB With the observance

COOKING IN FANNIN

COUNTY

by Tommie Sue Turner

of Thanksgiving Day we have been reminded once again what a giver God is. With the pageantry of the Christmas season already upon us we are caused to rejoice in the truth that life’s greatest gift has been extended to us in the birth of the Christ child. It is not too early to give thanks for Christmas. I have already

been enjoying the Christmas movies on the Hallmark channel. While most of them leave a good feeling in my heart, occasionally there are some who missed grasping the reason for the season. In Dr. Charles Reed’s book “Daily News from the Good News” he tells of hearing a person who chose to call the activities associated

had an error in it. It should be sour cream instead of some cream. This error is my fault, and I hope it doesn’t cause any of you any problems..

Mix. Fry in 2 tablespoons oil. Cover until potatoes start to get tender. Uncover and brown.

I like to try unique recipes that appeal to me, and Lorraine Melton of Randolph, sent one in that you’ve got to try. I would think it would be more of a summer recipe, but there’s no reason why you can’t cook it now. For those of you who like to experiment with new recipes, this is it. Thank you so much, Lorraine, for sending us this recipe. FRIED GUMBO

ing would be more conand would save on fuel, as well as time. Lackey believes the railroad is important for the growth of the County. He stated the County needs industry. Judge Moore asked about an estimated cost. Lackey said it could be $6-$8 million project but it is doable. Dale McQueen spoke on the Transload Facility and said there is an active railroad in the County now, in Trenton. He said it would be convenient for Greenville, McKinney and Fannin County towns. McQueen also mentioned bringing in large industries could have a negative impact on the companies already here. It’s possible a large industry could wipe out the employee base for local companies, causing them to possibly leave the County. He agreed a Transload Facility is a good idea but suggested the location might be reconsidered. 15 Discussion, consideration and action to award furniture proposal for the Fannin County Courthouse-Purchasing Agent Michelle Case said there were 6 bids received for the proposal. She recommends a local furniture store, Past & Present Furniture, in Bonham, to supply the furniture. They would be using JSI Industries, made in America. Ms. Case said the owner, Casey Davis, is very excited at the prospect of being involved in the history of the courthouse. The funds for the furniture are included in the courthouse restoration budget. The guesstimated $250K should completely furnish the courthouse. The furniture would not be delivered until September 2021, likely, but getting everything ordered would be the best plan. Commissioner Self asked to see the other bids before making a decision. The item was tabled so the Commissioners may take a look at all the proposals and see some of the furniture before any approvals. 16 Discussion, consideration and action to contract with Sparklight Business for fiber internet service at the Fannin County Courthouse - Purchasing Agent Michelle Case explained while

10 Discussion, consideration and action to approve the Interlocal Agreement between Fannin County and the Regional Public Defender Office Local Government Corporation, on behalf of Lubbock County, for legal defense services to indigent defendants and authorize County Judge to sign on behalf of the County – Judge Moore said the County receives grant funds which help pay for some of the expenses. The Court moved to approve the Interlocal Agreement. 11 Discussion, consideration and action to choose a replacement for Bob McCraw of the Bois d’Arc Lake Zoning Commission – Judge Moore asked for a hand vote for candidate A or B. Candidate B, Matt Titsworth, was a unanimous vote by the four Commissioners. Motion carried. 12 Discussion, consideration and action regarding the move of Adult Probation offices to the south jail – Purchasing Agent Michelle Case said the construction is done. The painting and carpet are the last things to be completed before the offices can move. An estimated one month time frame to finish was projected. There was no action to be taken by the Court. 13 Discussion, consideration and action to convey any and all rights, title and interest to Albert G. Brown, Trustee to the following tract of land: a part of the R.H. SURVEY, ABSTRACT NO. 936 – The Court determined there was no reason to deny the conveyance. The motion carried. 14 Discussion regarding possibility of a Transload Facility in Bonham – Commissioner Lackey wanted to see if the other Commissioners would be interested in getting rock locally from a Transload Facility. Lackey said the railroad to Bonham would need to be repaired and to use for transporting the rock. He said the four Commissioners buy approximately 500 railcars of rock each year. Haul-

2630 N. Center Street • Bonham, TX 75418 construction is ongoing, Sparklight can easily lay the lines and would be more cost effective. The 5/26/20 contract they are proposing is $710 monthly for 36 months, beginning when the courthouse is occupied. The cost will be reduced after the 36 months but no actual figure was given by Sparklight. There is no other option for fiber optic internet, at this time. The motion to approve the contract carried. 17 Discussion, consideration and action regarding personnel or supplies for Covid-19 from the CARES Act Grant or other funding – Purchasing Agent Michelle Case said she has a deadline of December 15th to submit the detailed amounts of what the County has paid for regarding Covid-19. She is working on detailed spreadsheets to submit. Ms. Case said she did not know if the Majestic 6 Theatre would ever be used for jury trials because they keep getting pushed back. Judge Moore asked about the Grand Jury using the theatre. The Judge asked for confirmation from District Attorney Glaser. Mr. Glaser confirmed Judge Blake’s courtroom is being used for Grand Jury. 18 Discussion, consideration and action to approve payment of bills – The motion to pay the bills carried. The meeting adjourned at 10:05 a.m.

WHY CLEAN YOUR CAR? Your automobile is an investment. To protect your investment, regularly removing harmful elements is essential. Over time, the sun, heat, cold and ice can dull your car’s luster. By removing these you will prolong the appearance and maintain that “just bought” look that first attracted you. Ultimate Washes are a great way to protect your investment. There’s something about a winter moonlight walk, Doc thought, as he smiled his way through his neighborhood. He looked at the light coming from the windows of each house. Each house warming its family. It would be about supper time now. Maybe I can sniff just right

and see if I can guess what is cooking. But that could be construed as detective work, and this is definitely not the time for work. Oh no. Not when you can look through the lacy, filigree patterns of dormant twigs high in the trees and see them play sacred music with that

technology can touch the lighting of the world when it’s dark. Not the geniuses in Hollywood or anywhere else. Doc stopped and looked up. This, he thought, is the real thing. The genuine article. Oh, we can make lights so bright they blind people, but this is something completely different. This is a light that enchants people. Yes, Doc thought, as he turned back toward his house. It’s true. OBITUARIES We think of you in silence, We often speak your name, But all we have are memories, And your picture in a frame.

LOYD DAIL JOHNSON

Honey Grove, Texas – Loyd Dail Johnson, born August 22, 1936, in Ladonia, TX, went home and met his Lord Jesus on November 21, 2020 and is now with his parents Doil and Gladys Johnson, sisters Edna Ruth Pickard and Clara Nell Valentine and beloved daughter Shelby Jane Johnson. A 1955 graduate of Ladonia High School, Loyd remained a lifelong supporter and loyal Rattler, always looking forward to reconnecting with friends and classmates at the annual Ladonia Rattler Reunion, which he helped organize in later years. His friends and family will remember Loyd’s penchant for hosting a party, his perpetual humor and love of a good story and a long laugh. Loyd was a graduate several times over from East Texas State University (now Texas A&M University--Commerce) having earned a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, with a minor in Art, and a Masters in Secondary Education, the latter of which he often reminded family that his wife of 61 years, Jane Johnson, was mostly responsible for. His teaching and coaching career began in Dodd City, Texas and eventually continued at Bells, Princeton, and Sam Rayburn ISD’s where he taught History and Science, and alternatingly coached football, basketball and track & field. In 1958 he met the love of his life, then Martha Jane Horton of Lannius, whom he married on May 29, 1959. On their anniversary each year Loyd would remind family members of proposing to Jane on the basketball court, promising her that he would marry her if she could make ten free throws in a row. Family members remain glad that he saw fit to give her several attempts. A man of seemingly endless talent and interests, and lifelong entrepreneur, Loyd always had a variety of projects and careers going simultaneously. In addition to coaching and teaching, in the 1960’s he began selling insurance and earned his Texas Real Estate Sales License. Longtime residents of Bonham will remember Loyd as the owner and operator of The Steak Out Restaurant and The Roller Rink through the 1970’s. He founded Fanninland Realty on the Bonham Square in 1974, which still operates throughout North Texas today. Loyd loved the land and working the land. He founded the LOJO Ranch in Honey Grove, Texas and was deeply proud to have helped develop a new breed of award-winning cattle, the Limoree, along with his friend and co-partner Jonas Barcellos of Uberaba, Brazil. In life Loyd enjoyed evenings fishing at a good pond, driving throughout his ranch to look at his cattle, and watching all manner of sports, especially basketball and football. He enjoyed a lifetime of traveling across the country and world, and especially enjoyed recounting his travels to family. Being blessed with wonderful friends and always sharing stories, Loyd especially relished his mornings socializing with friends at cafes and coffee shops in Sash, Honey Grove and Lamasco. Above all other pursuits in life, Loyd held his family highest and foremost. Kindhearted, considerate, and helpful to all, he was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather to the end. He spared no opportunity to tell his children and grandchildren how incredibly proud he was of them all, and how blessed he felt by his family. He was and remains deeply loved. Loyd is survived by his wife, Jane, and daughter, Tessie Johnson Nolan and husband Luke Nolan of Frisco, and son, Chris Johnson and wife Jeri Lea Hope Johnson of Bonham; grandchildren Jacob Nolan of Houston, Drew and wife Emily Nolan of Fort Worth, Audrey Jane Nolan of Fort Worth, Cole Johnson of Honey Grove, Callie Johnson of Bonham, Jessika Compton, Lauryn Compton and Aidan Straub of Bonham, and great-grandchildren, Eli Compton and Eva Ford of Bonham. Honey Grove Cowboy Church Pastor Tracy Williams of Manchester, TX presided over the celebration of life, that was held outdoors on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at 11:00 AM at LOJO Ranch -- 11953 FM 100, Honey Grove, TX. A private burial immediately followed at Willow Wild Cemetery in Bonham, TX. Pall Bearers were LOJO Ranch employees Faustino Chaverria, Roberto Chaverria, Larry Wolfe, Gary Lassiter, Craig Taylor, Wesley Ayers, Dale Horton, and longtime friend Edwin Anderson. Music was provided by Loyd’s longtime friend, cowboy musician and poet, Robert Joe Vandygriff of Lipscomb, TX. Memorial donations can be made to First United Methodist Church at 801 Star Street, Bonham, TX 75418, C/O Shelby Johnson Memorial Youth Fund, or Willow Wild Cemetery PO Box 159, Bonham, TX 75418.

DC’s Mauppin finishes 10th; betters State XC time, place By Rich Hilliard

ROUND ROCK -- Beforehand, Dodd City sophomore Lindsey Mauppin prioritized bettering her time over placement in her second advance to the Class 1A State girls cross country competition at Old Settlers Park. She managed on Nov. 23 to do both: Mauppin finished 10th in 12:59. Last fall, she placed 25th in 13:06.7 in the 1A State girls race and earned all-state honors in 1A in cross country from the Texas Girls Coaches Association. The second State appearance completed a cross country season which, for Mauppin, during late October was interrupted by a family COVID-19 quarantine which held her out of Dodd City’s last warm-up meet and District 23-1A competition. After the Lady Hornets advanced again past district, Mauppin returned on Nov. 9. She finished sixth in the overall standings of the girls 3200m Region III-1A race in 13:39.64 at the Jesse Owens Memorial Athletic Complex in Dallas to individually qualify again for State.
