“The Word Became Flesh and dwelt Among us” John 1:14

Sunday Morning Re-take

Hello everyone! We had a wonderful service in God’s house Sunday morning! Thank you to all of our visitors for coming to worship with us, and we hope to see you again! We had another full choir, which is truly a blessing. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.” I’m sure that we’ve all either heard or used the expression “Let go and let God.” God wants us to come to Him with our burdens, and to seek out His will for our lives. He has a plan for all of us, but it’s up to us to trust Him, and Him alone, to guide us. This week’s hymn reference was written by Somerset Corry Lowry in 1893. “Son of God, eternal Savior, source of life and truth and grace,Word made flesh, whose

birth among us, hallows all our human race, you our head, who, throned in glory, for your own will ever plead: fill us with your love and pity, heal our wrongs and help our need. Son of God, eternal Savior, source of life and truth and grace, Word made flesh, whose birth among us hallows all our human race, by your praying, by your willing that your people should be one, grant, O grant our hope’s fruition: here on earth your will be done.” If you are looking for a good church home, we invite you to come visit and worship with us here at Central Baptist Church. We hope to see you this coming Lord’s day! Josh Stevenson Central Baptist Church Bonham, TX https://www.facebook.com/ cbcfannin

In the Words of John in his gospel Jesus is presented as The Light, as the Word, and as the Lamb. Some of the names given unto him are Jesus, Savior, Word, and Emmanuel. The Birth of the Manger King The story of the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem is one that we enjoy hearing about over and over again. There has never been a birth in the history of mankind that has been filled with such meaning. Jesus was born once for All people for All time. His birth is exalted by each of the gospel writers. Stating that Jason Walker and Jason Royce were nominated in a past meeting he asked for a motion. A motion was made by Kevin Hayes to split the council’s votes between Jason Royce and Jason Walker with 165 votes going to each. A motion was seconded by Councilman Michael Evans and passed. 8. DIVINITY CANDY 2 large egg whites 3 c. sugar 2/3 c. water ½ c. light corn syrup 1 tsp. vanilla 1 c. chopped pecans Place egg whites in the bowl of a stand mixer, let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, line 3 cookie sheets with wax paper. In a large heavy saucepan, combine the sugar, water and corn syrup, bring to a boil, stirring constantly to dissolve sugar. Cook, without stirring, over medium heat until candy thermometer

Mr. Pate asked Bonham’s Chief of Police Mike Bankston who confirmed what the city manager said. He added that there is a variety of things the money can be used for from cameras in high drug usage areas to vehicles designated for drug enforcement and agreed with Mr. Pate that the City of Bonham should apply for this money. Cities that apply for this money will be receiving amounts based on the number of drug offenses filed in their cities. A motion was made, seconded, and passed to take part in the Opioid Settlement. 9. Consider and take action on a resolution stating the City of Bonham elects to become eligible to participate in tax abatement agreements: Sean Pate explained how this is the first step to start the process to establish a tax abatement agreement. He added that this is mainly involving the effort to keep Tongrun in our area as Oklahoma made them lucrative offers to lure them away. A BEDCo representative attending the meeting concurred with Mr. Pate on why this incentive is needed and how it benefits Bonham citizens. Michael Evans made the motion to take action on the resolution stating the City of Bonham elects to become eligible to participate in tax abatement agreements. A motion was seconded by Kevin Hayes and passed. 10. Adjourn: Motion was made, seconded, and passed to adjourn at 6:14 p.m. reads 252 degrees (hardboil stage). Just before the temperature is reached, beat egg whites on medium speed until stiff peaks form. SLOWLY add hot sugar mixture in a THIN stream over egg whites, beating constantly and scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Add vanilla. Beat until candy holds its shape, 5-6 minutes. (Do not overmix or candy will get stiff and crumbly) Immediately fold in pecans. Quickly drop by heaping teaspoons full onto prepared pans and let stand at room temperature until dry to the touch. Store between sheets of waxed paper, in an airtight container at room temperature. This should make around 60 pieces of candy. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas! Monday, December 13, 2021, Mayor HL Compton called to order at 5:30 p.m., the Regular Meeting of the City Council after Pastor Henry Shelton of the Trinity Baptist Church of Bonham, led an Invocation. A quorum was established. Mayor Compton asked all to keep Councilman Bill Chapman and his family in prayer as they are currently in quarantine. Councilman David Odom was also absent, Councilman Tim LaVergne II was running late. 1. Consider and take action to approve minutes of the November 8th regular meeting: Motion was made, seconded, and passed to approve minutes. 2. Consider and take action to accept the financial report for the month ending November 30, 2021: City Manager Sean Pate read a report from the Director of Finance Dave Struchtemeyer. He went over how in the first few months of the fiscal year the general fund typically runs in a deficit position due to the majority of revenues being generated December through March. He touched on the Water/Sewer accounts noting that November was the first month for collecting the drainage fees and how Hayter Engineering will be looking into a master drainage plan in the upcoming months for the City of Bonham. After his brief review, a motion was made, seconded, and passed to accept the financial report. 3. Citizens’ Opportunity to Speak: (The City Council invites persons with comments or observations to briefly address the Council for the limited purpose of determining whether the matter should be referred to staff for study and response and/or be placed on a future meeting agenda. State law prohibits the City Council from considering deliberations on any item not listed on the posted City Council Agenda.): A citizen residing on CR 3065 in Bonham spoke to express his belief that Texas law prohibits the city from denying citizens the right to use whatever company they choose for temporary dumpsters and how he will be taking the city to court over their excluding the use of his company’s temporary dumpsters and will be seeking compensation for the lost wages he has

incurred. Next to speak was a citizen of E. 6th who spoke of an offensive neighbor and his intrusive use of cameras and microphones and other menacing actions towards his neighbors. She believes the city should write an ordinance to address the intrusion of privacy and unneighborly actions coming from the abuse of multiple cameras and microphones with one’s neighbor. Last to speak was a resident of Cedar St who offered to donate acoustic material he is not using or needing, to improve the acoustics in the Roy Floyd Center if the city agrees to cover the cost of labor in getting the material hung in the Center. 4. Consider and take action to accept the resignation of David Odom, Councilman Ward 1: Mr. Pate spoke about how Mr. Odom had to regretfully tender his resignation to accept a lucrative job offer in Houston. A motion was made, seconded, and passed to accept his resignation. 5. Consider and take action on a Specific Use Permit for 501 W Russell (old golf course) to change the zoning from Single Family Residential to Planned Development: Director of Community Development Mark Kinnaird, explained how the owner of the property on W Russell, Gaylon Hammett and his partners, have requested that zoning regarding that property be changed from Single Family Residential to Planned Development. David A. Kalhoefer with Peloton gave a presentation to the council with visual examples to best represent their proposed development plan for the area. After taking questions from the council regarding drainage issues, Mr. Kalhoefer described the plan their environmental scientist suggested to best address any drainage issues. He also assured the council that they would be submitting those drainage plans to Hayter Engineering. After the drainage issue was discussed, the type of commercial building was discussed as were the residential structures. Councilman Kevin Hayes made the motion to change the zoning from Single Family Residential to Planned Development with Councilman Wayne Moore seconding the motion. Motion passed. 6. 7 Tips For Avoiding Water Damage 9/13/16 And Water Loss This Winter Texas Water Development Board Article - What can we expect this winter? Unfortunately, it’s hard to predict. The National Weather Service has declared that La Niña conditions are currently in place, which typically means we’ll experience a drier and warmerthan-average winter. But La Niña conditions were in place last year as well. “We can’t predict whether or not we’ll experience another exceptional winter weather storm like Uri because they are such unusual events and a much bigger wild card in terms of forecasting,” says Texas Water Development Board Hydrologist Dr. Mark Wentzel. Even though we can’t always predict extreme winter weather in advance, weather forecasts provide us some time to prepare. Before the mercury drops, it’s important to be proactive and take precautions to check for leaks and avoid water damage in and around your home, your pool, or RV. Here are seven Texas Water Development Board tips to help you avoid costly repairs and unnecessary water loss this winter season. Tip #1: Protect your pipes - Burst pipes are one of the most common causes of property damage during the winter and can cause thousands of dollars in water damage—easily $5,000 or more, according to the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety. Water pipes have the potential to freeze and burst when the outside temperature reaches 20 degrees or below. Protect outdoor faucets and exposed pipes by wrapping them with rags and tying with bungee cords or zip ties. You can also purchase foam or fiberglass pipe wrap designed to be used on exposed pipes. Remember that the goal is to prevent frozen pipes in unheated spaces, so you should be mainly concerned with exposed exterior pipes and pipes in unheated garages, attics, and crawl spaces. Usually, it’s not necessary to insulate pipes that run through interior walls. Handy helper: Electric heat cable kits keep your water pipes from freezing by automatically adjusting their heat output based on temperatures. Tip #2: Examine the exterior - Water can do serious damage when it’s flowing where it shouldn’t be. It’s

a good idea to step outside and take a look at your roof, gutters, and downspouts. Broken shingles or damaged flashing can be a sign that water might be penetrating your roof. Also, consider grabbing the ladder and cleaning the leaves out of your gutters to allow rainwater to flow properly. You might also need to add extensions to your downspouts if the water isn’t running far enough away from the foundation of your house. Handy helper: Gutter guards prevent leaves and debris from clogging your gutters while allowing rainwater to flow through. Tip #3: Look for leaks - In addition to looking for leaks around toilets, under sinks, in and around showers and tubs, and near water heaters, you can perform a whole house water leak check using your water meter. Larger leaks can often be detected by performing a simple check that involves turning off the water inside and outside the home, recording a water meter reading, waiting 15 minutes, and reading the meter again. If the meter records any water use during the test, it might be due to a large leak or a combination of small leaks. Handy helper: Smart leak detectors and water shut-off valves allow you to control and monitor your pipes through a smartphone app. More advanced models let you turn off your home’s water supply from anywhere. If your water meter is “smart” or digital, check with your utility about tracking your water use through an app or customer portal. Tip #4: Stop the sprinkler - Be sure to shut off your sprinkler system during the winter months to help conserve water and prevent damage to the system if temperatures drop below freezing. If your system has a main shut-off valve, you can turn off the water supply there as well. Wrap exposed pipe with insulation to prevent a cracked or busted valve. If your area is prone to prolonged freezing temperatures, you might want to drain the underground pipes before the first freeze. If water is left in sprinkler system lines or valves, it could freeze and expand, causing components to burst. Consult the owner’s manual for your irrigation system and consider contacting a professional before winterizing

your system. Handy helper: Use an air compressor to force air through the irrigation system to remove excess water through the sprinkler heads. However, unless you are an expert, this might be best left to professional irrigation specialists. Tip #5: House the hose Now is also a good time to drain any water hoses and store them indoors. Make sure you insulate faucets after removing hoses. Handy helper: A garden hose reel can make reeling up an unruly hose much simpler and keeps things tidy. Tip #6: Protect the pool -Properly winterizing an inground pool can ensure your system is in good shape next summer. While different types of pools require different approaches, some off-season tips apply to most pools to ensure the health of your pool water: remove debris, scrub pool walls, clean filters, and balance pH levels before covering your pool or shutting down the pump (if your pool and climate are suited for a system shutdown). Consult your owner’s manual or a pool services professional for other specific winterization steps for your pool. Handy helper: Talk to your pool services professional about pool winterization kits to preserve your pool water between seasons. Tip #7: Ready the RV - Recreational vehicles afford owners the freedom to hit the road and have somewhere cozy to spend the night. But if you don’t make the effort to prevent problems when your RV is stored for the winter, you could face problems down the road. Winterizing your travel trailer or motorhome is critical to avoid costly repairs. First, make sure you follow the advice provided in your owner’s manual. The most important step to take is purging the entire water system by draining your black and gray water tanks and the water heater lines. Some experts also suggest adding antifreeze to your toilet, sink, and shower lines. Handy helper: Thermostatically controlled heating pads will heat holding tanks and are designed to stop your fresh water and waste storage systems from freezing.

Fannin County Public Facility Corp Board of Directors Meeting 6/30/20 File Name: MasConRoofing091918 2x2 Date Created: 09/19/18 Date Modified: September 24, 2018 3:51 PM

By Rose Schwartz Tuesday, December 14, 2021, Fannin County Commissioner Jerry Magness called to order at 11:19 a.m., the Fannin County Public Facility Corporation Board of Directors Meeting. In attendance at the meeting were Fannin County Sheriff Mark Johnson, Fannin County Commissioners A.J. Self, Jerry Magness, and Dean Lackey. Fannin County Judge Randy Moore was not present. Commissioner Magness noted that Quorum was established. 3. Review and approve minutes from previous meetings: Motion was made by Sheriff Mark Johnson to approve the minutes with Commissioner Self seconding the motion. Motion passed. 4. EXECUTIVE SESSION: Consultation with Attorney, a closed meeting will be held pursuant to Section 551.0725 for deliberation regarding contract negotiations where deliberation in an open meeting would have a detrimental effect on the Public Facility Corporation’s interests with a third party; and Section 551.071 of the Government Code regarding consultation with an attorney to seek advice on pending and contemplated litigation, settlements, and other matters, which are confidential under the Disciplinary Rules of the State Bar, on which the duty of the attorney of the County under the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional conduct clearly conflicts with the Open Meetings Act, regarding the financing and the operation of the Fannin County Detention Center and Operation and Management Agreement: This item was passed on. 5. Review, discuss and take action to authorize the purchase and funding of the acquisition of certain surplus jail furniture, fixtures, and equipment for utilization in the Fannin County Detention Facility to be reimbursed and funded to the County under the existing Facility Operation & Management Agreement: Attorney Herb Bristow with Haley and Olson P.C. explained

that the contractor of LaSalle Corrections contacted him regarding the locating of surplus equipment that would align with the standards at the Detention Facility. Having located such equipment in Newton County, he noted that LaSalle Corrections will be purchased from Newton County at a cost of $149,200 (paid for by LaSalle Corrections) 176 Steel Double Bunks, 31 Stainless Steel Combo Commodes and 66 Steel Tables. Arrangements have already been made to have the equipment picked up for delivery to the Fannin County Detention Facility for installation when everything is ready for that to happen. Noting that the first step in having the equipment delivered and installed is for the Board to authorize the installation of the equipment in the facility and authorize the funding of it through the funds in the construction process. Attorney Bristow went over why this equipment is a good choice and asked for action from the board to proceed with this acquisition. A motion was made by Sheriff Johnson and seconded by Commissioner Lackey to purchase the equipment for $149,200 and have the equipment picked up and delivered to the Facility. Motion passed. 6. Consider, discuss and take action regarding Operator payments to be made under existing Facility Operation & Management Agreement; reconciliation of obligations; approve, review and ratify requisitions: Attorney Bristow then asked for approval of payment for invoice for the time period of 11/1 to 11/30 of Fannin County’s administration fee of $27,557.50. Commissioner Self made the motion to approve payment of requisition 1214B with Sheriff Johnson seconding the motion and motion passing. 7. Review, discuss and take action related to the operation of Fannin County Detention Facility including any update on capital improvement requests for detention facility and requisition requests from Operating Reserve Repair Contingency Fund held by

Sheriff Johnson made the motion to approve requisition 202112-14F for $871,583.10 with Commissioner Lackey seconding the motion. Motion passed. In addition to the operating expenses, Attorney Bristow asked for approval for payment of requisition 1214E for construction services for the same time period of 11/1 thru 11/30 in the amount of $99,207.00. Commissioner Lackey made the motion to pay requisition #2021-12-14E in the amount of $99,207.00. A motion was seconded by Sheriff Johnson and passed. Attorney Bristow then noted that approval was needed on requisition 1214D which mirrored the previous requisition stating that the previous action was to pay funds into the Capital Improvement Account and this requisition was to pay it out to LaSalle Corrections for the construction services. A motion was made by Commissioner Lackey to pay requisition 12-2021-12-14D in the amount of $99,207.00. A motion was seconded by Commissioner Self and passed. 8. Review, discuss and take action to request modifications to the connected sheriff’s office and sallyport area as a capital improvement under the Facility Operations & Management Agreement: Attorney Bristow stated no action was needed on this item but the update for the board was the request to redo the office area in the sallyport area while the construction is ongoing for the new beds. He noted that LaSalle’s contractor will be having the architect do a walk-through of the area to determine the best approach to accomplishing their goals. At this time no action is needed. 9. Review, discuss and take action to review and adopt annual audit report: Attorney Bristow noted that

First Presbyterian Church Bonham Hosts Longest Night Service

The name of the Longest Night service comes from the season... December 21st marks the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year. But the name, “ Longest Night ”, also describes the feeling many of us have during this season. The long, dark winter nights, memories of past experiences and situations can become overwhelming. Job loss, health is-

sues, the end of a relationship, the death of a loved one, all of these things can turn this season into a time of pain with a magnified sense of loss. In this service, we invite you to listen. We invite you to pray. We invite you to sing. We invite you to meditate upon the pain and anguish you may bring and we invite you to offer your pain to the Christ Child. And

we trust that you will find hope and comfort in knowing you are not alone. First Presbyterian Church is located at 818 N. Main Street in Bonham. The service begins at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, December 21 in the sanctuary. If you would like more information about this service, please call the church office at 903-583-2014.

The group completed an eye-

opening 16 week workshop for people who lack resources. The 2021 Getting Ahead graduates began their journey in August with Patty Kreider facilitating their study “Getting Ahead in a Just Getting’ By World”,

known as investigators, took an in-depth look at themselves and the impact of poverty in their own lives and after a period of self-reflection, they investigated poverty in our community. The session ends with each investigator creating a personal plan, based on his or her goals and dreams, to build a better future. Sonya Elmore, Getting Ahead graduate and co-facilitator, was the guest speaker for the graduation ceremony. Elmore’s journey from generational poverty and drug abuse to sobriety and financial stability was inspiring to those in attendance. Elmore shared how the Getting Ahead program helped her realize her own potential and move forward to a better paying job,

on her way to the life she has always dreamed of. She encouraged the graduates to pursue their own dreams. Ryan Varnadore, graduate from the spring 2021 class, shared how her family has benefited from her participation in Getting Ahead. As she passed the torch to the new graduates, Varnadore stated “It changed my life and my goals forever. I hope that you all have really taken the time to let all the knowledge sink in, for I know you too will be forever grateful for it.” Kreider and Elmore then awarded each investigator a certificate and a yellow rose. District Judge Laurie Blake offered words of congratula-

an engraved bois d’arc pen custom-made by David Keene. Graduate Brittany Boykin stated “Being a part of Getting Ahead has led me to understand, no matter how hard life gets and the obstacles thrown at me there’s always a way to overcome them. Look toward your community for resources, and understand the options around you. The past struggles are behind you, and the way to GET AHEAD is to press on and persevere. “ “The Getting Ahead program has been an eye-opening experience. A lot goes into our community I would’ve otherwise not known about.” said Jessica Davis. Donna Woodsworth credits

Getting Ahead with helping her talk with other people. “I have already been adding other people into my group. Adding people is an asset for me.” said Woodsworth. Graduate Katherine Williamson shared “This Getting Ahead class has opened my eyes to the different facets and realities of my economy, my community, and my ability to make changes in my life.” “The Getting Ahead class has given me insightful and powerful knowledge to better myself.” said graduate Tania Pena. “This in return has boosted my confidence to go after my goals.” Graduate Cathy Davis said “The Getting Ahead program has given me choices to do better for myself - places to go if I need the help to change things in my life to better my life.” Louise Goodwater provided beautifully decorated cakes for the reception that followed the graduation ceremony. The Getting Ahead program is for people who are living in poverty or unstable situations. It’s about building economic stability for themselves and a better future for their communities. The idea of “getting ahead” means action and movement – getting ahead of where they are now, toward a future that they really want. The program is sponsored by District Attorney Richard Glaser and the Fannin County Ministerial Alliance. Getting Ahead Fannin County is currently accepting applications for their 2022 spring session, scheduled to begin on February 7 at the Bailey Inglish Early Childhood Center. Learn more at https://www.facebook. com/GettingAheadFanninCo. Citizens from throughout Fannin County are also invited to attend a Bridges out of Poverty workshop on Friday, January 28, 2022. This one-day seminar helps attendees increase their awareness of how economic class impacts life experience, resources and stability. Week of December 15, 2021 Cooper GOOD. Water lightly stained; 56 degrees. Fall fishing is holding steady. Largemouth bass are good on deep diving crankbaits, black or red plastic worms, chatter baits, and football jigs. The white bass and hybrids are good over humps and flats using silver or white slabs and chartreuse swimbaits. Crappie are fair with minnows working brush piles and timber in 16-25 feet of water. Catfish are good on punch bait and chicken liver. Fork FAIR. Water lightly stained; 62-64 degrees; 3.17 feet low. Largemouth bass are good with spinner baits and chatter baits working on windy banks in 3-4 feet of water. Viper XP jigs are good on wood near creeks and ditches in 4-6 feet of water. Suspending jerkbaits are good near points and creeks with timber in 4-7 feet of water. Report by Lake Fork fishing guides Jason Hoffman and Marc Mitchell. The crappie bite is good between the 154 and 515 bridge on creek channels. They are feeding up on bait, so they are shad and happy, if you will. Fish deep in 45-55 feet of water with fish

suspended around 20-30 feet on top of timber. Success with small one-sixteenth ounce hand ties with a weight above it, but if they are biting add a minnow. 154- 515 bridge on creek channel in timber two months. Jacky Wiggins, Jack Wiggins Guide Service. Ray Roberts FAIR; Water lightly stained; 57 degrees; 0.73 feet low. White bass are moving quickly in 20-28 feet of water on main lake points biting on one-ounce silver and chartreuse slabs, with better luck on smaller slabs because the smaller size is most similar to what they are feeding on. The bass are moving quickly, so the bite is best on the bottom using Alabama jigs in 30-35 feet, letting the bait hit bottom and slowly reeling up. The bite is best while the wind is blowing and dies down when the wind does. Crappie are good on main lake brush piles 20-30 feet on minnows, with bigger fish in the Buck Creek area in the standing timber around 20 feet with bait suspended in the 10-12 feet of water. Tawakoni GOOD. Water lightly stained; 57 degrees;

Channel and blue catfish continue to bite on the South end of lake in 23-35 feet of water using worms and punch bait. Bigger catfish are best if you anchor and fancast with cut bait. White bass are good on the flats in the mornings. Striped bass have moved to hump edges and flats. Crappie should improve as the water temperature declines using minnows and jigs. Report by Keith Parks, Messin’ with the Fish. Eater size channel and blue catfish are good in 40 feet of water mid-lake and in the trees using punch bait. Trophy catfish are good in 30-32 feet of water drifting over points and edges using gizzard shad. Report by James Evans, Whisk’R Fish’N Texoma EXCELLENT. Home Country: Slim Randles

Visiting residents of a rest home this time of year sounds like a worthwhile project. Tell them hi for me, okay? Mabel Adams was sitting in the day room at the Rest of Your Life retirement home when the children came in. She smiled and so did all the others in the room except for two who didn’t know what was going on. The old-timers in the home knew the kids were coming and had put up Christmas decorations around in the day room and on the doors of their own small apartments and on themselves. Mabel had been reminded several times by the staff that morning that the kids were coming over, this being necessary as Mabel’s memory isn’t what it used

to be. And she put a sprig of imitation holly in her hair and tied a red ribbon on the other side. The little girl smiled and walked over to Mabel. “Are you a grandma?” she asked. “Why, yes dear, I am.” “I brought you a present, Grandma,” she said, handing a box to Mabel. Mabel opened it and was delighted at the sandalwood-scented hankies inside. “Why thank you so much, Honey!” she said. “And what is your name?” “I’m Candice. I’m four.” “Well, Candice, merry

Christmas to you. Have you been here before?” “Well … no, I guess. Mom said this is where the grandmas are and we can have fun bringing presents to the grandmas.” “I see,” Mabel said. “Well, Candice, come over here, dear and let me give you a hug. There!” Sometimes, it isn’t the cost of the hankies, or the fun wrapping them up. Sometimes it’s just a child’s smile and a small taste of love that makes us treasure Christmas.

NORTH Soil moisture ranged from very short to adequate with sporadic and drizzling rain reported. Temperatures dropped to the mid-40s. Oat conditions were very poor to excellent while winter wheat conditions ranged from fair to excellent. Pasture and rangeland conditions were mostly fair to good, but some counties reported very poor conditions. Livestock were in good condition. in-season. The biggest producer concern was the high cost of fertilizers and whether investing in costly inputs with the strong La Niña conditions will pay off. There have been several announcements of industries buying and building on key Blackland farming areas. A new Samsung facility alone will claim 1,250 acres of historically prime soil, and land values are exploding, which is triggering industrial, commercial and residential land sales.

CENTRAL Weather remained dry. Winter wheat was slowly being planted under cooler conditions. Producers reported difficulty obtaining their choice wheat varieties. Ideally growers will plant by Dec 1. Soil moisture conditions were still very good and much better than last fall. Unplanted fields were being cultivated to destroy heavy volunteer grass and weed growth. Some planted fields with excessive volunteer weeds may be difficult to control

The 12/19/17 Reason For The Season Matthew 2 (KJV) 2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. 2:3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 2:4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. 2:5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, 2:6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. 2:7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. 2:8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also. 2:9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. 2:10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh. 2:12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. 2:13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream,

saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. 2:14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: 2:15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was

spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. 2:16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.

At the close of another year, we gratefully pause to wish you a warm and happy holiday season. Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Homes 2022 North Center, Bonham 903-583-5555 803 East Main, Honey Grove 903-378-2291

2:17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, 2:18 In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not. 2:19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord ap-

peareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

12/19/17 2:20 Saying,

Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child’s life. 2:21 And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel .

2:22 But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee: 2:23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

May the spirit of Christmas bring you and your family hope, happiness and love.

SPORTS SPORTS Enrollment decreases elsewhere will affect Fannin Co. 3A, 2A football districts

By Rich Hilliard Whether Fannin County football programs will remain grouped with current district competition won’t be revealed until Feb. 3 by the University Interscholastic League. However, the release of maximums and minimums on Dec. 8 for the classifications -and divisions within -- by the UIL gave clues. Of the current members of Bonham’s 5-3AI, Howe won’t return after submitting a 349 enrollment. The minimum to stay in 3A-I districts will now equate a 360. Howe will drop into 3A Division II (250– 359) -- where it will possibly resume its dis-

trict football rivalry with Leonard. District 8-3A-II -- where Leonard competes -- will also lose a member: Whitewright. A 239 enrollment will move Whitewright into 2A Division I (164.5–249). That move will possibly place Whitewright into a district with Trenton and the current members of 5-2A-I. Trenton’s current district will have room: Lindsay (153.5) and Collinsville (157) will drop to 2A Division II (105–164.4). Honey Grove’s 6-2A-I will also lose a current member: Celeste (150).

First-team selections from Bonham included: Mason Rodriguez, quarterback; Jeren Ross, running back; Cade Bowser, wide receiver; Angel Esquivel, linebacker; and Dustan Sewell, linebacker.

HG’s Butler, Trenton’s Stogsdill head Fannin THSCA Academic All-Staters

By Rich Hilliard

Honey Grove’s Jonas Butler made the first team and Trenton’s Wyatt Stogsdill placed on the second to lead Fannin County football players this fall to receive All-State Academic recognition from the Texas High School Coaches Association. Honorable mentions from Fannin included: Marco Delgado, Mason

Rodriguez, Cade Bowser, Hagan Weissert of Bonham; John Wayne Wheeler, Clayton McClain Cook, Damien Jay Brown of Leonard; and Jaden Wilson of Honey Grove. Besides being athletes, the recognition considers their additional excellence in the following categories: GPA (grade point average), class rank and ACT/SAT score.

Bonham junior Alli Kirkpatrick has earned an All-State volleyball selection in Class 3A from the Texas Girls Coaches Association for the 2021 season. She equates one of only 50 players -- throughout all of 3A -- to receive the honor. Kirkpatrick, who also garnered the 11-3A hitter of the year award this year, amassed 566 kills and 347 digs during the season for Bonham, which forced a play-in for the fourth and final district postseason berth with and before falling to Whitewright. Meanwhile, Leonard junior Abby Cavender

will be an alternate for the TGCA 1A-4A Red All-Star Team. All-State TGCA academic selections from Fannin County included: Alexus Osborn, Alejandra Soto and Paizley Vaught of Bonham and Paiton Sudderth and Reagan Whitehouse of Leonard. All are seniors.
