Reinstatement of 75% Capacity per GA-32 Dear Citizens of Fannin County, On October 7, 2020, Governor Abbott issued Executive Order GA-32. In this order, it

updates the thresholds for areas with high hospitalizations. This is defined as: Any Trauma Service Area (TSA) that has had seven consecutive days in which the num-

ber of COVID-19 hospitalized patients as a percentage of total hospital capacity exceeds 15 percent, until such time as the Trauma Service Area has seven consecutive days in which the

number of COVID-19 hospi07/02/19 talized patients as a percentage

of total hospital capacity is 15 percent or less. Fannin County is in Trauma Service Area E which now has

had more than seven consecutive days of under 15% hospitalization rate. The percentages may be viewed by clicking HERE, selecting the HospitalsRegional tab at the bottom and then scrolling to and clicking on Trauma Service Area E. THEREFORE, in accordance

with GA-32, as of today, February 17, 2021, the following are in effect: (1) All Fannin County restaurants, retail stores, office buildings, manufacturing facilities, gyms and exercise facilities and classes, museums, and libraries may return to a maximum of 75% occupancy levels. (2) Bars and similar establishments: The Opt-In Form to TABC has been sent, but we must receive a confirmation from TABC before continuing with opening. A notice regarding opening will be sent to all media as soon as the Opt-In notice is approved and received by the TABC. Additionally, all licensed hospitals in the Trauma Service Area may now continue with elective surgeries as set forth in Executive Order GA-31. The Health and Human Services Commission, the agency responsible for regulating hospitals in Texas, is separately providing notice directly to affected hospitals notifying them of the ability to resume elective surgeries located in TSA E. If the hospitalization rate goes above 15% for seven consecutive days in the future, Fannin County will again have to revert back to 50% capacity. Let’s continue to utilize best practices such as masks, hand washing and social distancing to keep our citizens safe and our level of hospitalizations down. It has been a blessing to see our communities work together in unity to help make it through these unprecedented times. Thank you. Sincerely,

Winter Storm Assistance, Programs2/16/21 Available From USDA

Programs and resources are available from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for rural communities, farmers and ranchers, families and small businesses affected by the recent winter storms. USDA staff in the regional, state and county offices are prepared with a variety of program flexibilities and other assistance to residents, farmers, ranchers and impacted communities. “USDA is committed to getting help to producers and rural Americans impacted by the severe weather in many parts of the country. As severe weather and natural disasters continue to threaten the livelihoods of thousands of our farming families, we want you and your communities to know that USDA stands with you,” said Kevin Shea, acting secretary of agriculture. “Visit farmers.gov or your local USDA Service Center to inquire about assistance.” USDA offers several risk management and disaster assistance options to help farmers and ranchers recover after they are impacted by severe weather, including those impacted by winter storms and extreme cold. Even before disasters strike, USDA provides tools for farmers to manage their risk through the Federal Crop Insurance Program, a public-private partnership between USDA’s Risk Management Agency and private companies and agents. For crops that do not have crop insurance available, the Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) is available through the local Farm Service Agency (FSA). This risk protection includes crop production loss and tree loss for certain crop insurance products. It is recommended that farmers reach out to their crop insurance agent or local FSA office for more information. Farmers who signed up for Federal Crop Insurance or NAP who suffer losses are asked to report crop damage to their crop insurance agent or local FSA office, respectively, within 72 hours of damage discovery and follow up in writing within 15 days. Livestock and perennial crop producers often have more limited risk management options available, so there are several disaster programs for them. Key programs include: •The Livestock Indemnity Program and the Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybee

and Farm-raised Fish Program reimburses producers for a portion of the value of livestock, poultry and other animals that were killed or severely injured by a natural disaster or loss of feed. •The Tree Assistance Program provides cost share assistance to rehabilitate or replant and clean-up damage to orchards and vineyards that kill or damage the tree, vines or shrubs. NAP or Federal Crop Insurance often only covers the crop and not the plant. It’s critical to keep accurate records to document the losses and illnesses following this devastating cold weather event. Ranchers are advised to document beginning livestock numbers by taking photos or videos of any losses. Other common documentation options include: •Purchase records •Production records •Vaccination records •Bank or other loan documents •Third-party certification USDA also can provide financial resources through its Environmental Quality Incentives Program to help with immediate needs and long-term support to help recover from natural disasters and conserve water resources. Assistance may also be available for emergency animal mortality disposal from natural disasters and other causes. FSA also has a variety of loans available, including emergency loans that are triggered by disaster declarations and operating loans that can assist farmers and ranchers with credit needs. Care for livestock and pets: USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) veterinarians are ready to work alongside partners to conduct on-site assessments to document the needs of affected ranchers. More information about protecting livestock is available on APHIS’ Protecting Livestock During a Disaster page. Information about protecting household pets and service animals can be found on APHIS’ Animal Care Emergency Programs page. APHIS has additional staff on stand-by to provide support should the situation escalate in severity or the number of affected livestock operations increase. Should it be necessary, APHIS has the expertise to assist with carcass removal and disposal, as well.

by Tommie Sue Turner This will be my last recipe to print in The Leader. I’ve done this for about 10 years, and it’s time to turn the page to a new chapter. The new chapter is a better one. Weesie Holland will be printing a recipe every week for you to enjoy. Weesie is a better cook than I am. I have many recipes that I have saved over the years, but that doesn’t mean I’m a good cook. Those of you who have been in my house have seen the sign in my kitchen that reads, “Many have eaten here. Few have died.”. Please welcome Weesie as your new “recipe guru”. I’ve put a lot of thought in what my last recipe will be. Baking pies is my favorite thing to do in the kitchen, so I’ll do just that. Although I still use my grandmother’s coconut cream pie recipe, this one sure caught my attention. I’m not going to print how many calories one slice has, but it must be delicious! When you have plenty of time, try this one.

Bring remaining coconut milk, whole milk, remaining ½ cup toasted coconut, vanilla, 1/3 cup of the sugar and salt to a simmer in a 2-quart saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally with wooden spoon, about 5 minutes to dissolve sugar. Press a sheet of plastic wrap directly onto the surface of filling refrigerate until filling is cold and firm, at least 3 hours or overnight. Just before serving, beat cream and 1 ½ tablespoons sugar in a chilled bowl, using electric mixer at medium speed until soft peaks form. Store in refrigerator. Please send your favorite or unique recipes to Fannin County Leader at 224 N. Main St. Bonham. The Fannin County Leader staff and their readership community will greatly miss Tommie Sue’s submissions each week. Not only did we receive a good recipe we also received a warm note from Tommie Sue about the recipe. She told us a story every week, many times including family facts or information about the person who may have submitted the week’s recipe to her. These past 10+ years have taught us a lot about Tommie Sue. She is consistent, creative, can be counted on and, has a big heart for family, friends, and neighbors. Thank you, Tommie Sue! Bonham, TX such a Bible I memorized my first Scripture passages. Adding other passages as I grew older brought benefits of great value. It was while I was in the military service doing combat duty in World War II that my plane was disabled and we were forced to parachute to safety. For the next nine months, I was a prisoner in Germany. At the time of my capture, the New Testament that I carried in my flight suit was taken and discarded. The only Bible that I had was that hidden in my heart. What a comfort it was! It was a light for

Awful glad.” Steve and the other members of the world dilemma think tank looked in amazement as this old camp cook and cowboy came over with the coffee pot and topped off their coffee mugs. Rio Grande 11/10/20 Valley Citrus Damaged By Freezing Weather By Jennifer Dorsett Field Editor, Texas Farm Bureau The extreme cold blanketing the entire state of Texas will have disastrous effects on the Rio Grande Valley citrus crop. Citrus growers like Texas Citrus Mutual President Dale Murden did their best to prepare for the cold spell but forces of nature are not always kind to farmers. “The wind was so strong that a lot of the irrigation freezing methods that we do with micro sprinklers and sprinkler systems just weren’t that effective because of the wind was blowing so hard,” Murden, a former Texas Farm Bureau District 13 state director, said. “But then the other side of it is you get down to 21 degrees, and you’re only going to warm the tree up a few degrees anyway.” If the temperature drops below 28 degrees for six or more hours, he said it’s likely the fruit will suffer damage, but not necessarily the trees. Murden estimated citrus harvest was about 55 percent complete when the cold weather hit, rendering the remaining fruit on the trees frozen and useless. “This year has been an unusual year to begin with. We’ve been in a drought for several years now. Then we had Hurricane Hannah, and we estimate we lost 10 to 20 percent of the crop at that time,” Murden said. “But all things considered, we were having a pretty good year. Prices were good. Quality was good, and the remaining fruit on the trees after the hurricane was good. Then, the ‘St. Valentine’s Day massacre’ hit, so you never know.” To add insult to injury, trees were beginning to bloom, which is the start of next year’s crop. So the current weather has now caused damage to two year’s crops. “Going into next year with a lighter crop poses its challenges and problems. You’re still going to have the same costs going into it, but also you go into it knowing you’re going to have less crop to be able to sell to the public,” Murden said. “So, it’s got to all be thought through and evaluated at this point. But it is what it is, and we’ll deal with it.” Although it was expected to warm up a little mid-week, another big freeze is expected Thursday and Friday. “The big unknown for us is we’ve got more freezing temperatures Thursday night and Friday morning,” he said. “Part of the problem was it was supposed to clear off, so that means we would thaw out all the ice that’s on the trees now. That could be

even a bigger challenge and problem for us.” But no matter what Mother Nature throws at the Rio Grande Valley citrus growers and farmers, they’ll survive— and keep farming.

“There’s always going to be a commercial citrus industry down here. We still have some growing businesses down here that are very committed to the industry and had actually been planting

new citrus in the last couple of years,” Murden said. “So we’ll weather the storm and make it keep going. And South Texas grapefruit will still be here for you.”

George and Marianne, first generation US citizens, lived their entire life in the desert Southwest which had a special beauty of its own. Starlit nights and glorious sunsets, they loved and thanked God for the home they had been given. Their parents immigrated to America when their families fled dictatorial forces in the land of their heritage. These immigrant families loved their new country, taught their children to love and respect their new homeland, but they never forgot from where they came. They spoke to their children of the green hills and valleys of their childhood, wild-flowers and snow-capped mountains, and clean, flowing streams of crystal-clear water. George and Marianne, both the product of these immigrant families, would marry and raise five children in America. George and Marianne worked hard to provide their children with a safe home, the advantages of education, work ethics, family outings and vacations, and Godly values that had been passed on to them from their parents and grandparents before them. But they never forgot the land their fathers and mothers loved. One day, they committed, they would return to their ancestral homeland. They spent countless hours with travel magazines and historical documents of the country they longed to see. They studied its government, its citizens and cities, its countryside, food, and entertainment. They even incorporated some of the recipes that had been handed down from their mothers into their weekly meals. They planned for and longed for the day they would set their feet in that country. They loved their American homeland; they were thankful they had been embraced by this land of opportunity for themselves and their children…. but Yes! They longed for another home. George had retired the previous month, and after a flurry of preparation and tearful, yet joyous farewell parties, they sat on Advantage Airlines flight 6600 bound for their dream home. As George and Marianne snapped their seatbelts, George peered out the window at the only home he had ever known. As they sat on that runway, George grabbed Marianne’s hand, smiled, and said, “LOOK, WE ARE STILL HERE, BUT WE’RE NOT!” Their perspective had changed. IN JESUS CHRIST, WE HAVE A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE. When we believed in God’s plan for salvation, YESHUA [JESUS] (His Name means God’s Salvation), The Bible tells us that “HE (God) raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:6. Although we love the place that God has given us here on this earth, it is not meant to last forever. It, like all of creation, has been infected with the first man, Adam’s, rebellion against God. Because of that original rejection of God’s perfect creation, the weeds and thorns have grown and the flowers wilt and die. Without this NEW BIRTH GOD GRANTED US IN JESUS CHRIST, ALL CREATION IS BORN TO DIE. And so, it will remain until Jesus appears again. “For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who His children really are. All creation, against its will, was subjected to the curse which brought death to every living thing. But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time [it also awaits new birth]. And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us. We were given this hope when we were saved, prepared for us by Jesus our Lord and Savior (If we already have something, we don’t need to hope for it. But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.) Romans 8:19-25. Our perspective has changed because of the HOPE that is in us. This HOPE is a real place, a place where all creation has been born again with no seed of death in it, a place where there is only life – for eternity. YET, WE ARE STILL HERE – BUT WE’RE NOT! For we have a different perspective. “THEN THE MESSENGER OF GOD showed me a River that flowed with the Water of Life – bright as crystal flowing from the Throne of God and of the Lamb (Jesus Christ) down the middle of the street of the New Jerusalem (Jerusalem means “flowing waters of Shalom [Peace]”. On either side of the river was a Tree of Life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month; and the leaves of The Tree were for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be any death [curse]. The throne of God and the Lamb shall be in the city, and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see HIS FACE, and HIS NAME will be on their foreheads. THERE WILL BE NO MORE NIGHT. No one will have need of lamps or sunlight, for God will shine on them. And in HIS GLORY, THEY WILL REIGN FOREVER AND EVER.” Revelation 22:1-5. We live in a world where sickness, death and violence increase around us, but we have been given the gift of a DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE. This perspective is available to everyone who accepts God’s Gift of Eternal Life by being Born-Again into Jesus Christ. Born without the seed of death, He overcame death for all of us. This gift is given freely to anyone who will believe and accept JESUS’ SACRIFICE AND PROVISION. Don’t understand? Accept HIM by faith, ask HIM for the Truth, and He will give you the Holy Spirit. “But when HE, the Spirit of Truth, comes, HE will guide you into all Truth. John 6:13. HE gives us the Perspective of Jesus Christ for “We have [been given] the mind of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 2:16. TODAY IS THE TIME FOR A NEW PERSPECTIVE, FOR “TODAY IS THE DAY OF SALVATION [YESHUA]” 2 Corinthians 6:2 Signed: Teri Sheddy

home improvement shows? After attending some recent Commissioners’ Court meetings and using information I gathered through a couple Open Records requests, I think so. Over the last four months, Fannin County Commissioners have concluded that the county’s historic courthouse under renovation won’t have enough room to hold the county’s District Court, District Attorney, District Clerk or the County Clerk’s Office when its finished later this year. Consequently, late last year, Commissioners decided to build them a new place to call home and went looking for an architect to design new space for its courts, DA, the Clerks and their staffs. In November, the county invited architects to showcase their qualifications to design a new “Justice Center for Fan-

Home improvement shows are a hot item these days. Millions of Americans follow shows like “Fixer Upper” and “Home Town.” Rehab experts who host those shows including Chip and Joanna Gaines; and Ben and Erin Napier have become stars and influencers across the county. So, what makes these home improvement shows and their hosts so popular? I think these design stars and their shows are wildly successful because in our hearts, most Americans long to one day own the home of their dreams. And, each week, “Fixer Upper” and “Home Town” demonstrate what is possible with a talented designer, skilled craftsmen and a modest budget. Find the right team to lead your building project and anything is possible. So, does Fannin County have anything in common with these

nin County.” In effect, Fannin county asked would-be designers like Joanna Gaines and Erin Napier to lay their cards on the table and show us why should they get a shot at the county’s new Justice Center. Potential Justice Center designers were instructed to describe their experience putting together other judicial facilities. Interested architects were, in essence, told to submit a detailed resume that listed projects they had done in North Texas and specifically identify their experience designing courtrooms. Designers were also told that they would be judged by a “Selection Committee” and that a handful of them would be invited to make in-person presentations about their vision for the project and qualifications of their firm. In short, the county seemed to lay out a very objective, nearly scientific, way to pick Fannin County’s future Joanna Gains or Erin Napier. Four local officials were picked for the selection committee. Edwina Lane, the county’s newest County Commissioner, as well as longtime Commissioner Dean Lackey were named to the Committee. So too were a couple folks with a very real interest in the project: County Clerk Tammy Biggar and District Court Judge Laurine Blake, both likely future occupants of a potential Justice Center. By mid-December, thirteen would-be Joannas and Erins submitted their resume packages to be considered for Fannin County’s project. The Selection Committee then went to work. The Selection Committee initially reviewed all thirteen packages so that it could narrow the list down to a group of finalists to invite for presentations. To be as objective as possible, the County Purchasing Agent

asked the Selection Committee to consider four factors for each designer: 1.) related experience, 2.) work performance, 3.) capacity to perform and 4.) familiarity with county budgeting and Texas construction bonding procedures. Over three-week’s time, the Committee narrowed the field of interested designers to just four finalists who were then invited to present their qualifications and discuss their vision for the Justice Center. We can think of this as the rough equivalent of the you and me sitting down with Joanna and Erin to figure out whether the “Fixer Upper” or “Home Town” team will get our job. Basically, a job interview. During and after these presentations, the Selection Committee considered the four factors and ranked each of the finalists. For finalists, Committee members were asked to record their thoughts on “Score Sheets” specially prepared by the County Purchasing Agent with plenty of room for notes. Three Selection Committee members – Commissioner Lane, County Clerk Biggar and Judge Blake - used Score Sheets to officially record their views and rank finalists for the project. After presentations, when Score Sheets were tallied, the Selection Committee voted 3-1 in favor of PGAL (www.pgal. com) - a large, award winning, international design firm – for the project. It’s worth noting that among a host of impressive projects, PGAL designed the Collin County Courthouse that’s home to our neighbor’s district courts, District Attorney and Clerk of Court and sits just 37 miles down SH 121 from Bonham. At a meeting of the Fannin County Commissioners’ Court on January 26, 2021, three selection committee members told commissioners that PGAL’s presentation was, “leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else,” and indicated that PGAL has “leadership and vision” and experience “primarily focuse[d] on new construction.” With glowing remarks like that, some might think this story ends there and that PGAL is hard at work designing a master plan for our new Justice Center, but not so fast. You see, the Selection Committee could only recommend which designer Fannin County ought to hire for the Justice Center project. The Committee was, in reality, sort of like your neighbor telling you his or her view on whether you ought to go with Joanna or Erin for your home improvement project. For all its effort and carefully crafted, objective process, the Selection Committee couldn’t actually hire PGAL for the job; it could only recommend the designer to County Commissioners. The Fannin County Commissioners Court would have the last say. Despite the fact that Commissioner Lane and Fannin County Judge Randy Moore supported the Committee’s recommendation to go with PGAL at the meeting, the rest of the County Commissioners’ Court actually went in another direction altogether. What? How could that happen given the amount of time and effort the Selection Committee had devoted to picking the most qualified designer for the project? The charge toward another firm was led by the only Selection Committee member who did not vote for PGAL in the first place – Fannin County Precinct 4 Commissioner Dean Lackey. During a half hour exchange that seemed only vaguely related to the detailed evaluation criteria used by the Selection Committee but did feature an interesting discussion of

one Commissioner’s grocery shopping habits, County Commissioners rejected the Committee’s recommendation and voted 3-2 in favor of Architexas (www.architexas.com). Readers may recognize that name. Architexas is a firm currently involved with the county’s long-delayed, over-budget courthouse restoration effort. In fairness to the three Commissioners who voted for Architexas, that outfit was one of the finalists the Selection Committee interviewed for the project. But the Selection Committee did not recommend Architexas to the Commissioners Court. Why? As one Committee member explained to Commissioners during the discussion, Architexas seems to have preconceived ideas about the Justice Center project while PGAL planned to ask for community input. The Committee member also noted that Architexas is best known for historic courthouse restoration not planning and building new construction Justice Centers. Finally, the same Committee member observed that residents of Fannin County might lack confidence in Architexas given its role in the courthouse restoration project since its costs now exceed initial projections. At a later point in the discussion, another Selection Committee member observed that PGAL isn’t the sort of outfit to put its name on “something shoddy” and it made no sense for the county not to pursue “top of the line” talent for its future Justice Center. Commissioner Lane seems to have summed up the majority view of the Selection Committee when she observed that PGAL was “planning for our future” when it discussed Fannin County and Justice Center project. Ultimately, the majority of County Commissioners were not swayed by the Selection Committee’s thinking. One Commissioner, unimpressed with PGAL’s “dog and pony show,” was concerned that the respected award-winning design firm might be trying to “weasel their way in where they’re on our payroll every year” with talk of a multi-year vision for Justice Center and proposed branding plan for the county. Commissioner Lackey, who did not use a written Score Sheet while sitting on the Selection Committee, announced that he voted for Architexas based on two previously undisclosed criteria – his view of Architexas’ relationship with the county and fear of doing business with a new company. “I don’t want to gamble on swapping to a new company,” said Lackey, “I want to award (sic) them when they’ve done a good job for me.” He also thought highly of Architexas because of its “historical stuff” and willingness to consider his suggestion that they use the “old [Fannin County] jail site” for the future Justice Center. With this endorsement, Commissioners A. J. Self and Jerry Magness joined Lackey in rejecting the Selection Committee’s recommendation and voted for Architexas. The Fannin County Commissioners’ Court had found its Justice Center designer. Joanna and Erin could just pack up their fancy presentations and head back to Waco, Texas; Laurel, Mississippi; or, wherever their hearts might desire. A close look at the qualification package Architexas gave the county in December 2020 reveals a couple interesting things. First, the award-winning firm known widely for restoration of vintage Texas courthouses, did not identify a single new construction “Justice Center” or courtroom de-

sign project that it headed up on its own. To plug this potentially damaging gap in its portfolio, Architexas told the county it would “team” with another design firm named HDR (www. hdrinc.com) because HDR has extensive experience with such projects. “Teaming” is a practice commonly used by government contractors to meet real or perceived shortcomings in their background and experience in hopes of landing new business. So, in this case, Architexas used this time-tested approach to address a shortfall of actual new build justice center and courtroom design experience in its resume. Second, and maybe even more interesting, at the top of page 18 of Architexas’ qualification package, the firm actually listed Commissioner Lackey, the only member of the Selection Committee to vote against PGAL, as a Work Experience “Reference.” Think about that for a just a moment and let it sink in. Would Joanna Gaines feel good about trying to land a design project knowing that one of her competitor’s “References” was going to sit on the group that would “objectively” judge her proposal? Hmmm . . . Everyone generally knows that you don’t just list anyone as a “Reference” when applying for a job. You select “References” very carefully. You only list “References” that you know will speak highly of you. References go to bat for you. To be fair to both Architexas and Commissioner Lackey, he does attend a meeting each week as Commissioners’ Court representative with a group that watches over the courthouse restoration project. But, then again, County Judge Moore often attends these same meetings. Yet, it’s also true that Commissioner Lackey has been there longer than anyone. There is little doubt that in the years since work started on the courthouse, Commissioner Lackey has formed an opinion about the contractor team on the long running project that includes Architexas. It’s likely that Commissioner Lackey is uniquely positioned to know Architexas and Architexas knows Commissioner Lackey. Probably a good reason for Architexas to choose Lackey as a “Reference” in their pitch for the Justice Center job. So, did other would-be Joannas and Erins, and their “Fixer Upper” and “Home Town” teams ever really have a shot at designing a Justice Center for Fannin County? Or was it just inevitable that Architexas would get the Justice Center design Project? Did we ever really need a Selection Committee of respected public officials to look at other potential designers for our project? Or was the Commissioners’ Court short discussion and vote for Architexas an objective way to decide on the best designer for the county’s next multimillion dollar, public works project? Time will only tell . . .

Ector (20-7, 13-1) assured its seventh-consecutive trip to the boys basketball playoffs. The Eagles advanced as the 23-1A champion -- their fourth district title in the last five years, and all with Blake Turner as head coach. Via the title, Ector earned a bi-district bye and a Region III-1A area-

round game -- Feb. 22 or 23 -- to start the playoffs. Last season, the Eagles advanced to the Region III-1A quarterfinals in boys basketball for the first time since 2017. Meanwhile, Dodd City qualified for its fifth-straight postseason. The Hornets secured the 23-1A runner-up berth with a 12-2 record -- going 7-0 during the second half of district play. Last season, Dodd City’s postseason prematurely ended in the area

round against Slidell, the 2019 state champion -- and a 2020 state finalist before COVID-19 prompted the cancellation of the 1A title game. The suspects were also cited for the following violations: Taking or Possessing species from a Wildlife Management Area, Failure to have an Annual Public Hunting Permit and a No Upland Game Bird Endorsement Violation. The Munchies Wardens were patrolling in Childress County for state law violations when they observed a vehicle with a Louisiana license plate traveling East on a rural highway. A traffic stop was conducted and during the initial contact with the driver, the warden’s pointed out that there was a small purple box with a marijuana leaf insignia on it that appeared to have “THC” written on the box. Warden’s had the driver exit his vehicle and questioned him about his trip across the U.S. During the investigation, the driver admitted to having some marijuana and THC edibles inside the vehicle. A probable cause search of the vehicle yielded several containers of THC wax, THC edible candy, marijuana and several drug paraphernalia items. The driver was booked into the Childress County Jail without incident and charged with possession of a controlled substance PG2 4<400G, possession of marijuana less than 2oz, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Celebrate Recovery offers a person the opportunity to participate in a group where love and hope combine with God’s purpose to mend our lives. Ask yourself: • Are there things in my life that I do to hurt others? • Is there something I wish I could live without? • Is there something in my life that has gotten out of control? • Do I have a habit or hang-up from which I need to be freed?
