Breaking Ceremony for Yerrabella such a success. This mile stone event was the result of collaborative planning between our partnership and the City of Bonham. Just as our partners and the city rallied around us 6 years ago at the Holiday Inn Express ground breaking, this community showed up in a big way for Yerrabella as well. I believe in Bonham and its growth. I made promises to Roy Floyd that I would bring multi family housing to your town. I feel extremely fortunate knowing that you all have believed and trusted in me, and in our company, so that today we can come together and celebrate. I want to point out my sincere appreciation to Roy Floyd, Sean Pate, Steve Filipowicz, Mark Kinnaird, Joe
Howdeshell, Lance Capehart and all of the city staff. They have been the wind on our back to drive us forward with this project. Leinhart Construction and Diehl Construction, thank you for helping to get us started. I also want to recognize First National Bank of Gilmer for funding Yerrabella. To all of the partners that have believed and trusted in this dream, thank you for standing next to me as we start this new journey. And last but not least; my family. Without their support I would not be where I am today. Our focus is to provide quality and affordable roof tops for Bonham. In doing so, I believe we will be one step closer to creating additional economic development and prosperity to this amazing community.

Virus Update from your County Judge
By Fannin County Judge Randy Moore Influenza (FLU) Virus and Coronavirus (COVID-19) are now common words in every household. My hope is everyone will use “common sense” in meeting this new disaster. We have been vigilant many times in the past and have won the fight. My advice is summed up in one verse from 1Timothy 1:7; “for God gave us a spirit NOT of fear but of power and love and self-control.” I want to let all Fannin County citizens know that we are addressing this issue. It will be on the Courts agenda on this coming Tuesday. But right now I want to share with you some simple but important things you can do to protect yourself and your loved ones. 1. Get the facts. Not all news media explain the outbreak the same. As of Thursday, 3-12-2020 there were 25 people confirmed
with the Coronavirus in Texas. 17 picked up the virus out of state or country. 8 people caught it from these people and they are family. The Flu virus is much more disastrous to most people. The good thing is if you take precautions against the coronavirus you are also taking precautions against the Flu virus. 2. Please don’t panic! Many precautions are being made to get through this. Several from the County are on Daily updates from the DSHS and CDC. Yesterday, the Governor had a conference with all County Judges and Mayors. I will do my best to keep you informed. For now, buy what you need at the grocery store but if you find you have more than you need, take care of your neighbors. You might even make up little gift bags of hand sanitizer, Lysol spray, and such and take it to the elderly, medical clinics, churches, 911 responders, City and County Offices, Agri-Life Extension and USDA offices for examples. 3.Listen to what makes sense. Ask your Doctor, go to the website of the CDC or DSHS for information and listen to your City and County Leaders. a. If you are sick, stay home. b. Shy away from crowded events (shoulder to shoulder)
c. Listen to local closings such as schools, Nursing Homes, and possibly City, County and State Offices. Government Offices have not closed in Fannin County at this time. d. Call ahead to verify your appointment or to make sure the office or business is open. 4. Do this! a. Spray door handles and surfaces with a disinfectant. b. Elbow “bump” instead of hand shake. c. WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN!!!! Here are some web sites to stay abreast of the current trends and factual information regarding the Coronavirus. All About Horses: Grumpy Old Man
(Courtesy Hayes Equine, Denison, Texas) by Meghan Mendoza
As we head into winter, we always worry about our older horses weathering the storm. Winter time is very hard on the geriatrics, who often don’t have the reserves necessary to make it through the winter without losing body condition. Here are a few things to keep in mind when maintaining the older horse. Dentistry Chewing is the first step in digestion, and older horses are often desperately in need of dental care. From broken teeth to misalignments, these guys need a good, sedated oral exam with dental care yearly. Broken or diseased teeth should be removed and any waves, ramps, or hooks should be corrected to allow for more comfortable chewing. Some of these older horses need bite alignments, where the front teeth are filed down to allow the back teeth to grind more efficiently. By keeping the teeth as normal as possible, it helps to prolong the lifespan of the tooth, therefore prolonging the life of the horse. Feeding Proper nutrition is key for these aged horses. Because most older horses have dental issues, it’s important to feed them a diet that they can chew easily. Consider feeding geriatric horses an equine senior feed as it’s higher in calories and fat, and is made to dissolve quickly and easily. The thing to remember when
choosing one is that a diet needs to have at least 5% fat in order to cause weight gain. For thinner horses, choose a senior feed that’s higher in fat. It’s also important to check the feed for whole flakes of beet pulp. Beet pulp is a common additive to feeds to get horses to gain weight. However, the trouble comes when the horse chokes on the beet pulp. While a grain choke takes about 20 minutes to get undone, beet pulp chokes can take an hour or two because it expands as it gets wet, and it starts to solidify into a giant mass that makes it really difficult to get out. It’s also important to be discerning about the type of forage you’re offering your older horses. For horses without many teeth left, they may not be able to chew hay or grass very well. During your horse’s oral exam, be sure to ask about what the best type of forage is for your older horse. Some horses may need to be switched to a cubed or pelleted hay that has been soaked in order for them to avoid choking and to make sure they are getting the proper amount of nutrition from their forage. Gut Health As the horse ages, their gut flora changes. And since many older horses are being fed high-grain diets in order to keep the weight on them, it’s important to keep gut health in mind. Consider adding probiotics to the diet to help maintain healthy gut bacteria. Ask your veterinarian what s/ he recommends for a probiotic
supplement. Pain Management We are all familiar with the arthritic changes that age brings on. Your horse is no exception to the rule. Especially on those cold, damp days, some older horses may need some help to stay comfortable. Painful joints may keep horses from walking to the water tank, or make them prone to stocking up. Talk to your veterinarian about keeping some NSAIDs like Bute, Banamine, or Equioxx on hand for those stiff days. Blanketing Most horses don’t require blanketing, even on the coldest of days as long as they have shelter. However, older horses need some special considerations. Especially thin older horses. Elderly horses with little to no fat may need a blanket since they have no fat stores to burn to stay warm. And as always, never put a blanket on a wet horse. Always dry the horse off before you put a blanket on them. And one thing to remember is that if you have a shivering horse, they may not need a blanket. Putting some hay or forage in front of the horse will actually generate more heat through digestion than a blanket will. Going into winter, try to get those horses in a good body condition so they at least have some stores of body fat to live on if it’s needed. By maintaining good dental health and proper nutrition, your horse will be more likely to weather the winter in good health.

resurrection, His cross experience, and the purpose of His death. He became our substitute. He took our debt of sin upon himself and died our death on Calvary. By way of introducing this prophetic event, I would like to share a personal story out of my ministry in the mid 1950’s. It happened like this, Sadie and I were enjoying a very successful pastorate with the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Bryan, Texas. We were in to our fourth year. In a home visit with one of the new families, we were asked a very probing question. “Brother Bill, is Jesus
God’s son? Is he really the promised Messiah?” I was impressed to read Isaiah 53. In follow up visits, we made a study comparing its teachings with account of the cross in the New Testament. In time, the family became believers and the prophecy of the suffering servant (Chapter 53) became a precious passage to me. In four weeks it will be our glorious privilege to give praise to God for the Gift of His Son on the Cross as the payment for our debt of sin. Three days from then our Redeemer was risen from the grave. As Jesus died
Statement from the Mayor regarding the Corona Virus
Press Release - Mayor Roy Floyd urges the public to remain calm and be smart regarding Covid 19 human Corona virus. Although there are no known cases in Fannin County or the city of Bonham, you should be vigilant and practice good hygiene. If you feel sick restrict contact with others and stay home or seek medical attention if needed. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds to the wrist. If no water is available, hand sanitizer of at least 60% alcohol is the next best thing. If you cough or sneeze - don’t use your hands to cover your mouth. Cough or sneeze into the crook of your arm or into a tissue and promptly throw it away. Instead of shaking hands try the elbow bump. As always, the health, safety, and
protection of each and every citizen is our highest priority. Stay safe and stay smart. God bless you, your family and God Bless the United States.

Let’s read Isaiah 53 and the passages in the New Testament in preparation for observing God’s gift of eternal life. We can outline the scriptures as follows: The Lamb’s Life: Isaiah 53:1-4 • Not a man of outward appearance • A man of sorrows • He led an exemplary life The Lamb’s Death: Isaiah 53:5-9 • Suffered in our stead • Suffered silently • Suffered unjustly The Lamb’s Glory: Isaiah 53:10-12 • God’s plan and pleasure • His days prolonged and

He appreciates all the people that come to commissioners court and the interest they have in what’s going on. He said in the next week or two you should receive a Census 2020 form to fill out and it is very important to Fannin County to fill out. Census Bureau will never ask for your Social Security number, bank account info or money. I like recipes that have few ingredients, but are tasty. This week’s recipe fits the bill. It’s unique, simple, and tasty! I’ve even thought you could use the ingredients other than the chicken for a marinade, and then pour all in the pan to bake. It’s just a thought. APRICOT GLAZED CHICKEN 8 chicken breasts 1 (10 oz.) jar apricot preserves 1 (8 oz.) bottle Russian dressing 1 envelope dry onion soup mix Preheat oven to 350°. Place chicken in pan (skin side up). Combine other ingredients and pour on top of chicken. Bake, uncovered, for 1 hour. Please send me your favorite or unique recipes to 300 E. Russell Ave., Bonham, TX 75418, or take them by the Leader’s office at 224 N. Main St. in Bonham.

AUSTIN — Alicia Whipple, Auditor of Fannin County, has completed the Basics of County Investments Course presented by the Texas Association of Counties (TAC). The course meets the educational requirements of the Texas Public Funds Investment Act and includes presentations on products and services in the public funds markets and updates on the latest laws and strategies. Course topics include identifying cash flow needs, analyzing factors affecting the Texas economy and the Public Funds Investment Act. Course graduates are in a better
position to ensure the safety of principal, portfolio liquidity and appropriate returns — three key areas of concern for county investments. This training is required for membership in TAC’s County Investment Academy. The academy provides investment education through a variety of conferences and workshops. Through the training, attendees have access to accurate, in-depth information as well as a network of experienced county investors from across the state. The overall objective of the program is to safeguard public funds through the introduction of modern operational

Funds 3/17/20 Approved for Improvements at Jones Field in Fannin County PARIS – Texas Department of Transportation officials today announced that a $250,000 grant approved by the Texas Transportation Commission at its February meeting will fund improvements at Jones Field in Fannin County. The funds will be used for planned improvements, including design and engineering for pavement improvements through the city of Bonham and TxDOT’s Aviation Facilities Grant Program, which preserves and improves the state’s general aviation system. A consultant
for this project will be selected this spring, officials said. This year, TxDOT expects to provide approximately $60 million in funding for planning, constructing and maintaining community airports. Approximately 275 community airports in Texas are eligible for funding. Arrivals and departures from community airports account for more than three million flight hours per year, and provide aircraft facilities for agricultural, medical, business and commuter use.

US!
When one of you brings a sacrifice to ME, He must bring a perfect male from the flock, a lamb without blemish…and it will be accepted to make atonement for you. LEVITICUS 1:2-4
Press Release - Ricky Linex, wildlife biologist for the Natural Resources Conservation Service, will be a featured speaker at the Fannin County Master Gardeners Garden, Lawn and Home Expo on Saturday, March 28, at the Bonham Civic Center at 1100 W 5th Street, (corner of Hwy 56 and Hwy 121), Bonham. Ricky is the author of “Range Plants of North Central Texas, A Land User’s Guide to Their Identification, Value and Management” which is a plant identification book for Texas detailing various regional grasses, forbs, and woody plants. He will speak at 1:00 p.m. on “Invasive Plants: We Must Fight the Good Fight.” Of interest to those wanting to attract butterflies, hummingbirds and bees to their gardens, horticulturist Danielle Dunn will present a program at 11:00 a.m. on how to increase the pollinator population in the home garden, how to built habitats for pollinators, and how to create pollinator friendly gardens. Danielle interned with Dr. Mike Merchant, Urban Entomologist at AgriLife where she researched the attractiveness of different Texas landscape plants to native insect pollinators. At 9:30 a.m., Master Gardener Walt Goodwater will demonstrate how to grow micro-greens. He will show how to build and manage a small growing bed to produce a supply of nutritious small greens to enhance salads. He will give away a micro-greens growing set-up, including lights, to a lucky person attending his program. At 2:30 Walt will hold a workshop on growing micro-greens for fodder for cats to cattle. Learn how to grow your own cat greens or to provide fresh greens for your chickens, rabbits or other farm animals. Door prizes will be given away following each speaker session. Vendors will be on hand with a large selection of bedding and ornamental plants, yard art, home and lawn care products, services and equipment. Master Gardeners will be available to answer gardening questions, free literature available, and a Silent Auction round out the day. For more information about the event or about being a vendor, call 903583-7453, or email fanninmastergardeners@ gmail.com. Follow us on Facebook or visit our website at https://txmg. org/fannin.

Shilo Cemetery Volunteer Work Day #2 Saturday, March 28
Volunteers needed to help clean up this 170-yearold cemetery that has been neglected for over 40 years. Good progress was made on our first work day last month with piles of brambles, trees,
and undergrowth removed from parts of the cemetery; but many sections are still untouched. Our goal is to clear out as much as possible before a perimeter fence goes up in April.
Shilo Cemetery is located southeast of Bonham on the Blackmon’s property, about 1/3 mile north of CR-3015. Access gate will be open from 8 am to 4 pm. Please let us know if you can help

By Sharon Scott Fannin County Master Naturalist Thomas Jefferson once wrote in a letter to his daughter: “Good soil bids defiance to pests and disease.” Wouldn’t everyone love to have soil like that in their gardens! Fannin County has many soil types with the two most common being a sandy soil or Houston Blackland Clay. Although these two soil types are quite different in texture, they can both benefit from proper management of yearly application of mulches. (https://websoilsurvey.nrcs.usda.gov/app/ HomePage.htm) Initial soil building starts with applying mulch directly
1354 Clement Road • Paris, TX 903-784-2238 • 903-784-7800 Fax 903-785-6933 Mobile 903-782-6330 Charles Mallicote - 903-785-7191
to the soil, WITHOUT using any underlayment. Smaller pieces of mulch will decompose into organic matter. Larger pieces will eventually break down over time. Working the mulch into the soil speeds up the decomposition process. Decomposition does require nitrogen for the process. Adding a source of nitrogen will ensure there are adequate nutrients for growing plants AND decomposition. The choice of mulch is something to give thought to. Rubber mulch is popular commercially because it does not decompose. Pine bark mulch is very good but tends to move around by wind and water. In areas prone to water drainage, a no-float cypress mulch might be best. Hardwood mulch is a good all-around choice for beds and walkways. A yearly re-application of mulches is very important. The previous year’s mulch becomes the soilbuilding material for the next growing season. A fresh layer of mulch each year will keep down weeds and slow the rate of moisture loss through the summer. Game Warden Field Notes
Gesundheit! On Feb. 15, a Real County game warden assisted the Real County Sheriff’s Department on a call about a reckless driver that had been pulled over just south of Leakey. After the deputy made contact with the driver, he told the game warden the driver was acting very nervous. While the deputy was running the driver’s information the subject sped away and a pursuit ensued. Real County sheriff’s office, the game warden, the DPS trooper and the Real County Constable were involved in the pursuit. After pursuing the subject for about 5 miles south of Leakey the subject stopped and fled on foot. The driver ran towards the Frio river and jumped in the river. The game warden drove to the other side of the river to try and apprehend the subject,

but the subject made it back across the river. A bystander told the warden where the subject crossed the river again, and he and the other officers began a search for the subject. While waiting for the Edwards County sheriff’s office K9 unit to arrive, the game warden was continuing the search when he heard someone sneeze in the tall grass. The warden began searching the area where he heard the sneeze and shortly after found the subject in a ditch covered up with grass. The subject was apprehended transported to the Real County Jail. The subject said he fled because he was scared and was out on bond. He also had two bags of marijuana stuffed in his boots. What Happens at the Lake House On Feb. 8, Llano County game wardens responded to a shots fired call with deputies. Multiple callers stated an individual in a subdivision was shooting an automatic rifle at a buoy in the lake near houses and towards boats in the water. A rental house was located with eight people where the shooter was identified. The shooter admitted to hiding the rifle inside the residence. Consent was given to search the house which yielded the rifle, bags of marijuana, unprescribed Adderall, and psilocybin mushrooms. A total of five people were arrested for charges ranging from possession of marijuana, deadly conduct- 3rd degree felony, and possession of controlled substance 1>4 grams — 2nd degree felony.

Stephen Murden of Wise Funeral Home presents a donation of $1000 to Sandy Barber with the Fannin County Children’s Center for child abuse prevention efforts. Press Release - The Matthews Children’s Foundation recently donated $1,000 to the Fannin County Children’s Center for child abuse prevention efforts. Stephen Murden of Wise Funeral Home wrote the required letter of recommendation to go with the Children’s Center’s application and he was happy to be the one to present the donation check. “We are grateful for the continued generosity of Matthews Children’s Foundation and for Stephen Murden’s help and support in making this possible,” said Sandy Barber, Executive Director of the Children’s Center. “This gift will strengthen our ability to prevent child abuse in our community.” This donation, combined with generous gifts from the Glaser Family Charitable Foundation and the MW and Fair Miller Foundation, has helped the center purchase a new curriculum and supplies for child abuse prevention efforts with children and youth. The curriculum developed by the Women’s Center of Tarrant
County is called Play It Safe. Play it Safe is a child abuse awareness and prevention program that incorporates age-appropriate scripts and movies to teach children how to reduce their risk of sexual and physical abuse. It teaches them to recognize potentially abusive behavior, provides the tools to respond to threatening situations, and encourages them to report abuse to a trusted adult. It is an evidenceinformed, age-appropriate risk reduction program for Pre-K through high school age students. Each grade level’s interactive curriculum speaks to children in a way that they can best learn and respond. A more detailed list of what each class covers is available on the center’s website at www.fanninccc.org. The Children’s Center’s staff are available to travel to local schools, churches and day cares to teach the classes. To schedule, contact Andrea Lappin at (903) 583-4339 or andrea@fanninccc.org.
Museum Object of the Week By Fannin County Museum of History The Object of the Week at the Fannin County Museum of History is a Lucky Strike cigarette package that was found during the demolition phase of the Fannin County Courthouse restoration. This green Lucky Strike package was produced until 1942, when the background color was changed to white. Apparently the color change was made to modernize the look and appeal more to women smokers. The Museum has an interesting display of Courthouse artifacts, which is very much enjoyed by Museum visitors. Included in the display are patent medicine bottles, liquor bottles and a Coca-Cola bottle that was from the Bonham CocaCola plant. Visit the Fannin County Museum of History to see many more items. The Museum is open Tuesday-Saturday, noon – 4pm and is located just a few blocks south of the Courthouse Square.

Sending Six to State: Leonard girls again regional lift champs via record-setting efforts, five champions By Rich Hilliard CHICO -Avery Crossland set all four records in her weight class -- part of seven regional marks established and five individual championships won on March 7 by Leonard en route to repeating as Region VI Division III Girls Powerlifting Meet team champions. Crossland won the 259plus weight class via records in each category at the regional and for her combined amount: 475 squat, 260 bench, 370 deadlift, 1,105 total pounds. Crossland also received the following honors on the heavy platform at the regional meet: squat award, bench award, best overall lifter. Her efforts led Leonard which won the team championship with 47 points -- easily outscoring second-place Whitesboro (26) and third-place Bowie (24). Crossland equated one of five champions -- each of whom earned seven points toward her team’s score -and six total state qualifiers
from Leonard for the girls meet at the Extraco Center in Waco on March 20.
