The City of Bonham (City) is gearing up for an “out of this world” experience on Monday, April 8, 2024. For the first time in 146 years, Bonham will be in the Path of Totality during

the “Great American Eclipse”. The last solar eclipse that Bonham, TX experienced totality was on July 29, 1878, and there will not be another until 2044. Bonham can expect a little

more than 3 minutes of totality, which makes our city a great viewing option. These are the steps that we have taken to prepare for an influx of visitors and the safety of our citizens:

1. City Hall will be open to assist Bonham PD, Bonham FD, & Fannin County Department of Emergency Management.

2. City employees will be assisting the Parks and Recreation Department to manage all City Parks, Ball Fields, and Lake Bonham. See Fannin County on page

Fannin County Commissioners Court – Words of Warning & Advice

Tuesday, March 26, 2024, Fannin County Judge Newt Cunningham called to order at 9:00 a.m., the Regular Meeting of the Fannin County Commissioners Court. Quorum was established with County Judge and all County Commissioners present, apart from Commissioner Magness. The Invocation was led by Pastor Andrew Malone of the 1st Baptist Church of Bonham. Pledges were led by Major James Manis, Retired.

4. Introductions: Judge Cunningham welcomed and recognized GOP Candidate Elect for Commissioner of Precinct 1, Troy Waggoner.

5. Public Forum: Judge Cunningham commented on the meeting being held later in the day from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Solid Rock Church on Hwy 121 regarding the problem of child sex trafficking. He then spoke about a report from the Texas Historical Commission regarding the removal and destruction of historical markers. He issued a warning of dire legal consequences for destroying or being in the possession of a historical marker that is State property. ROUTINE ITEMS:

6. Approve payment of bills – County Auditor: Fannin County Auditor Alicia Whipple stated the bills for the week were $138,395.70. A motion

was made by Commissioner Kopf to approve with Commissioner McQueen seconding the motion which passed.

7. Emergency Management Services (EMS) report for February 2024 – Scott Ridling, Fire Chief: Judge Cunningham’s Administrative Assistant Lisa Loiselle, first noted this agenda item should read “Medical Services” before Bonham Fire Chief Scott Ridley gave his report. He reported a slow February with 366 calls, a fully staffed department with 7 operational vehicles and one ambulance expected to be delivered at years end.

8. Approve Treasurer’s Financial Report for February 2024 – County Treasurer: Fannin County Treasurer David Woodson noted the receipts for February was $5,630,125.03 and noted the amount of sales tax was not available due to an audit from the comptroller office but that he would have the number to report on at the next Commissioners Court. A motion to approve was made by Commissioner McQueen, seconded by Commissioner Self and the motion passed.

9. Approve Treasurer’s Investment Report for February 2024 – County Treasurer: Mr. Woodson commented on a new program recently implemented that will help his department to stay in compliance with their reporting. He thanked Julie Criswell for her vital assistance before breaking down the interest amounts from the TexPool Account, the 2020 Bond and the Operating Business Fund that brought the total amount of interest revenue to $60,691.71. A motion was made by Commissioner Kopf to approve with Commissioner McQueen seconding the motion which passed.

10. Approve Treasurer’s 2023 Fiscal Year Investment Report – County Treasurer: Mr. Woodson first noted this report was for the period from October 1, 2022, to September 30, 2023 before noting the total interest for that period for the TexPool accounts was $343,160.73

which amounted to 63.55% of the total interest income. The 2022 Bond had an interest amount of $195,552.50 with the Operating Business Fund having a total interest amount of $1,291.79. The total interest revenue from all the accounts for the 2023 Fiscal Year was $540,005.02. A motion to approve was made by Commissioner McQueen, seconded by Commissioner Kopf and the motion passed.

11. Report of monies received by the Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 office for February 2024; $1,162.00 –County Judge (for JP 2): Informational only.

DISCUSSION, CONSIDERATION AND ACTION ITEMS:

12. Approve going out for bid for a Ram 5500 Pickup truck for Precinct 2 – Purchasing Agent: Fannin County Purchasing Agent Edwina Lane presented this request and asked if there were any questions before Commissioner Self made the motion to approve with Commissioner McQueen seconding the motion which passed.

13. Approve Non-Exclusive License Agreement between Fannin County and Healthcare Solutions, Ltd. for access to Healthcare Solutions Software as a Service (SAAS) from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2026 – County Judge: Ms. Whipple explained how this was the software that Indigent Healthcare Director Mark DeMay (who is currently recovering from surgery) has used satisfactorily for many years. A motion was then made by Commissioner McQueen to approve with Commissioner Self seconding the motion which passed.

14. Approve Interlocal Agreement between Fannin County and the City of Trenton related to development and implementation of regulations in Extraterritorial Jurisdictions (ETJ) – County Judge: Fannin County Civil Attorney Andy Garner explained how the attorney who represents the City of Leonard also represents the City of Trenton and had agreed with Attorney Garner to replicate the agreement recently used for the City of Leonard and Fannin County to be used with the City of Trenton. A motion was made by Commissioner Self to approve with Commissioner Kopf seconding the motion which passed.

15. Discussion regarding County Treasurer Internal Audit Report – County Auditor: Ms. Whipple led a discussion about how an audit is to assure all the departments are following ever changing regulations and how that can mean just the addition of a certain spreadsheet form to be fully in compliance. Before the discussion concluded, Ms. Whipple also answered questions about efficiency and how means to improve efficiency are being researched.

CHEESECAKE FACTORY AVOCADO EGG ROLLS

1 c. vegetable oil

3 avocados, halved, peeled and seeded

1 Roma tomato, diced

¼ c. diced red onion

2 Tbsp. chopped fresh cilantro leaves juice of 1 lime

Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

8 egg roll wrappers

For the cilantro dipping sauce: ¾ c. fresh cilantro leaves, loosely packed

1/3 c. sour cream

1 jalapeno, seeded and deveined

2 Tbsp. mayonnaise

1 clove garlic juice of 1 lime

Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

To make the cilantro dipping sauce, combine cilantro, sour cream, jalapeno, mayonnaise, garlic and lime juice in the bowl of a food processor; season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.

Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium high heat. In a medium bowl, gently mash avocados using a potato masher. Add tomato, red onion, cilantro, lime juice, salt an pepper, to taste, and gently toss to combine. Working one at a time, place avocado mixture in the center of each wrapper. Road Work updates for Week ending 3/19/2024

As commissioner, I plan to let you know every week what we accomplished the prior week. As citizens, you expect us to be out working daily in the precinct and bringing our county roads back up to at least a minimum standard. We have rented a mini-excavator for a few weeks and have been working on drainage issues on CR 2210, 2215, 2235, and 2600. This has been a good test of the usability of a machine like this for the precinct as it can clear ditches and pick up brush when needed. Brush has been cut on CR 4005 and picked up within a day of cutting. By using a tractor with a grapple directly behind the brush cutter it tends to go faster but involves using

in the sides. Continue rolling until the top of the wrapper is reached. Using your finger, rub the edges of the wrapper with water, pressing to seal. A large culvert on CR 4330 was destroyed in last week's rainstorm and should be replaced as soon as we get another culvert from the manufacture. In order to prevent it being overtopped in the future two large culverts will be used to replace this single culvert.

16. Discussion regarding State Highway 78 property

– County Judge: Judge Cunningham began the discussion by referring to the question asked last week by county resident Rusty Deets. He explained the research done on the matter and explained how the original agreement on this never actually relayed ownership of the land by the State of Texas to Fannin County but just the use of the land for construction plans of a recreational type of facility for public access to the Red River with contractual requirements on the part of Fannin County to keep the area clean and in good condition. A detailed discussion followed with suggestions from Rusty Deets and other residents, Jason Walker and Jannie Bellows which resulted in a consensus that the county might ought to look to get out of the agreement for the building of a facility no funding exists for. Judge Cunningham noted this would be put on the agenda two weeks from now for more definitive decisions.

17. Subdivision Committee and Subdivision Policy

– County Judge: Judge Cunningham commented on a historical marker that was possibly destroyed by a developer or other party. He noted how historical markers belong to the State of Texas and the destruction of or the removal of such markers can result in unwanted consequences to the responsible party/parties.

18. Courthouse repairs and litigation – County Judge: No significant updates.

19. Justice Center – County

Judge: Judge Cunningham noted more information would be forthcoming during the next Commissioners Court.

20. County budget and revenue sources – County Judge: Judge Cunningham mentioned a meeting that would be held with the “hot tax” people and more should be known by the next Commissioners Court.

21. Water issues affecting Fannin County – County

Judge: Judge Cunningham noted a meeting would be scheduled within the next two weeks on this item. Citizen Sarah Richardson began a discussion by touching on the topic discussed in the previous Commissioners Court of evident damage caused to Lake Bonham by a sand plant in Ravenna that was attributed to erosion before touching on the proposal of another municipal utility district facility. She noted how sand plants, and such, affect the county’s drinking water particularly those served by onsite well water and how it can be very problematic due to some county citizens (like herself) being too far away to afford public drinking water to be piped onto their property. She voiced her lack of confidence in appointed regulation officials having adequate consideration for all citizens. The Power of Compassion

In compassion we have the power to emulate God. The Lord said “love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful” (Luke 9:35-36). Peter wrote about the importance of being like God, “Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy” (1 Peter 1:16).

In compassion we have the power to be Christ-like. Luke recorded these words of Paul, “I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord

Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). Paul wrote concerning what Jesus gave; “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works” (Titus 2:14).

In compassion we have the power to affect all men. Paul encourages “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith” (Galatians 6:10). Doing good unto all men includes our enemies, “if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:20-21).

In compassion we have the power to trust God. Timothy was instructed to “Charge

them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate” (1 Timothy 6:17-18). Jesus reminds us “take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:31-33).

Compassion is powerful. As children of God, let us not forget the power of compassion.

Sunday Morning Re-Wind “They That Wait Upon the Lord”

Hello everyone!

The Bible tells us in Isaiah 40:31, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

When we pray to the Lord for help with the problems that we face in life, we must remember that He may not answer us right away, but His timing is always right. An example of how we should wait upon Him is found in Psalm 62. First, David declares his patience in waiting for God to act on his behalf. Next he says that his enemies will not shake him because God is his Rock.

Third, after he declared his patience upon God, he pours his heart out to God in prayer. Next, as David did, we should put our hope and our trust in the Lord alone, and not in the things of the flesh. Bring Spiritminded is an important part of waiting on the Lord. Lastly, as David did, we must have faith in God’s sovereignty and His greater plans.

As I was researching hymns for this, I found this classic hymn that was written by Benjamin Beddome in 1787.

“Wait, O my soul, thy Maker’s will, Tumultuous passions all be still, Nor let a murmuring thought arise; His ways are just, his counsels wise.

In realms of cloudless light he dwells, Performs his work, the cause conceals; And though his footsteps are unknown, Judgment and truth support his throne. Wait, then, my soul, submissive wait, With reverence bow before his seat, And ‘mid the terrors of his rod Trust in a wise and gracious God.”

The Power Of His Resurrection

The resurrection of Jesus Christ has more cause for celebration than anything else I can imagine. It is no doubt a special holiday as well as a special day for celebration. However, it is also true that believers should celebrate the resurrection of Jesus every Lord’s Day (Sunday). Before the resurrection of Jesus on the first Lord’s Day, worshipers of the One True God would gather for worship on the Sabbath, or Saturday. However, the New Testament clearly puts forth the Lord’s Day as the day for believers to gather to worship Jesus and celebrate His resurrection. In fact, we can take this celebration of the resurrection even a bit farther. Paul testifies in Philippians 3:10, “that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.” In a very real sense, we are called to live every day in the power of His resurrection.” The very power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to us every moment of every day. Amen! Hallelujah!

Christians are to be like mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of God wherever and in whatever circumstances we may find ourselves. The glory of God with its transforming power is operative even now among believers through the risen Christ and our fellowship with Him (Rom. 8:29-30). The believer shares this divine glory now as it is reflected in the person of Jesus Christ and will in complete perfect manifestation of that glory in the great consummation when Christ returns. The Christian’s confidence is in “the hope of glory” in Christ (Col. 1:27; Eph. 1:18; 2 Thess. 2:14; 2 Tim. 2:10). The highest obligation of man is to glorify and praise the LORD God in worship. The only way this can happen is through an intimate personal relationship with God through the Lord Jesus Christ. God’s power is demonstrated and operates in “salvation history.” The supreme manifestation of the power and glory of God appears in His work of salvation (Matt. 17:2-5; Jn. 1:14; 2:11; 2 Cor. 4:4, 6, etc). Jesus gives His glory to those who believe in Him (Jn. 17:15, 22). The veil of unbelief is removed in Christ. “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit” (2 Corinthians 3:18).

BEWARE of SCAM in FANNIN COUNTY

There are scammers in our county…be informed on how to protect yourself!

A local couple was selling their truck (posted on FB Marketplace and Craig’s List), and a man contacted them saying he was interested in buying it. A meeting was set-up at a local bank, so the sellers could verify that the cash given for the sale was not counterfeit.

On the day of the meeting, the sellers met the potential buyers -- a man, his wife and baby. The buyers liked the truck and agreed to buy the truck for the agreed-upon price. The buyers then asked if the seller would take them for a short drive around the block. The seller’s wife went into the bank to wait and collect the car title, instead of going on the test drive (this was the first mistake). After they returned from the test drive, the male buyer asked to see the engine, and the male seller agreed and opened the hood. While the men were looking under the hood, the wife of the buyer exclaimed, “What is this?” (drawing attention to a puddle of oil beneath the

tailpipe). The seller walked from the front of the truck to the back to see what was going on. Unbeknownst to the seller, while the men had been occupied looking under the hood, the wife of the buyer had squirted oil into the tailpipe. As the seller went to look at the oil coming from the tailpipe, the male buyer (quickly and secretively) squirted oil into the engine and in the coolant reservoir, all of this occurring because there was not a person watching EACH of the buyers. The buyers claimed that the truck had a blown head gasket, and that $10,000 worth of repairs were now needed. The buyer told the seller that he would now only pay $10,000 less than the previously agreed-upon price. The seller did not fall for the scheme, although the buyer was adamant about still wanting the truck and wanting to “fix” the gasket problem. The seller, thankfully, refused the offer.

It wasn’t until the potential buyers left that the sellers realized that they were almost duped into selling their truck for significantly less money than it was worth. There was NOT a blown head gasket, after all. This is a simple scam in which many could have been fooled. Have eyes on EACH person, at all times, as they look at your car for sale. Unfortunately, the names of the potential buyers were not yet known, so these scammers are still out there, looking for more people to trick. BE ALERT!

Commissioner Buckingham Sues Biden Administration Over New Liquified Natural Gas Exports Freeze

AUSTIN — March 21, 2024

Texas Land Commissioner

Dawn Buckingham, M.D. filed a lawsuit with the State of Texas and 15 additional plaintiff states over the recent Biden Energy Department’s freeze on new liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. “With Biden’s decision to pause new LNG exports, the outright assault on our fossil fuels is reaching a fever pitch. As the steward of 13 million acres of energy-rich state land, I promised Texans to manage this land wisely and efficiently. Biden’s move to halt new LNG exports will steal from Texas schoolchildren and lead us further away from true energy in-

dependence. I cannot allow that to happen under my watch,” said Commissioner Buckingham. “From our wide-open southern border to this latest move to kneecap our economy, it’s clear that our state, our commerce, and our families are in the crosshairs of the current administration. I will always stand up for the prosperity of Texas and Texans, even if that means taking the Biden Administration to court.”

The Texas General Land Office (GLO) generates revenue for the Permanent School Fund through lease royalties from oil and natural gas production, land sales and leases, and other transactions involving the as-

sets under management. Since its inception, the GLO has deposited over $30 billion into the Permanent School Fund, including approximately $3 billion from oil and natural gas revenues in the last two fiscal years alone.

The Biden Administration’s pause in reviewing pending LNG export applications and the corresponding halt in market growth will keep the Permanent School Fund’s natural gas prices artificially depressed, reducing the revenues that the Permanent School Fund would otherwise earn to support Texas’ schoolchildren.

Earlier this year, Commissioner Buckingham sent a let-

ter to the Biden Administration emphasizing the harm this decision would cause hardworking Texans and the Permanent School Fund revenue stream for Texas school children. Her letter additionally noted: “The oil and gas industry supports more than 2.5 million jobs statewide, many of which are high-paying and bolster the economy in rural areas of Texas. Further, Texasled energy security allows us to support our allies in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East during times of conflict by providing cheap, clean-burning LNG in lieu of Russian or Iranian gas. In light of these facts, it's unconscionable that our own federal government would take such drastic steps with the goal of shutting down this thriving industry.”

On Friday, April 19, Jerry Rizzi and other performers will lead an evening of spoken word, poetry, music and visual arts. Doors will open at 6:30 pm and the show will start at 7:00 pm. In April, there will be an Eclipse Paint Party led by Chris Cravens on Monday, April 8 from noon to 3 pm. Weather permitting, this class will meet outside in the garden. In case of poor weather, the

In April, Jessie with Three Little Birds Painting will lead two different paint parties. On Tuesday, April 16 she will lead a class to paint a Highland Cow with sunflowers. Cost for all supplies, two hours of instruction and snacks and drinks is $35 for members and $55 for non-members. On Tuesday, April 30 she will lead a Brush & Brunch class from 11 am to 3 pm and the painting will be of a bear. All supplies, four hours of instruction, plus lunch will be included. Cost is $55 for members and $65 for non-members.

On Saturday, April 20, there will be a Kids Painting Party with Jaye Metellus from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm. This class is $12 for members and $15 for non-members. Metellus will also lead an adult paint party of Saturday, April 27 from 10 am to noon.

A two-part intermediate crochet class with Alyssa Amonson will be offered on Saturdays, April 20 & 27.

Participants will make an adorable bumblebee plushies. Cost is $40 for members and $50 for non-members and includes all supplies.

A basket weaving class with Frances Kelly will be held on two Thursdays, April 18 & 25 from 1-2:30 pm. All supplies and 3 hours of instruction are included. Cost is $30 for members and $45 for nonmembers.

Two different sewing classes with Eli Redabaugh will be offered in April.

On Wednesday, April 24, participants will learn to make a table runner and on Saturday, April 27, students will learn to make postcards from fabric. Redabaugh will also be teaching a crafting class with shells on April 17 from 1 to 2:30 pm.

The center also offers weekly drama and art classes for kids, yoga for adults and private voice lessons for teens and adults. New art classes are being scheduled regularly.

Cooper GOOD. Water stained; 60 degrees: 1.00 feet below pool. Catfish bite continues to be king on cut shad. Fork GOOD. Water Stained; 60 degrees; 0.28 feet below pool. Bass fishing has been slow due to the fluctuating weather patterns. The best bite has been on frogs behind the grass and Texas rigs in front of the grass. Yum dingers are good around flooded grass in 1-3 feet deadsticking rigged wacky worms. Lavon GOOD. Water lightly stained; 55 degrees; 1.97 feet above pool. Crappies are showing up in the shallows in 2-4 feet of water. The bite is not on fire, but some limits are being taken in the shallows with jigs and minnows. Prespawn fish roaming some hanging on brush 5-15 feet. White bass spawn is in full swing, with a few hybrids thrown in the mix. Sandies are spawning in the creeks on the North end. Tawakoni GOOD. Water lightly stained; 60 degrees; 1.41 feet above pool. Lake Tawakoni continues to fish well despite the brief cooldown in water temperature this week. Main lake is sitting at 60 degrees right now. Heavy overcast skies and cooler temperatures had the hybrids and white bass feeding all day. Swimbaits have been the ticket for the bigger fish and slabs for the white bass. 20-40 feet is best. The eating sized blue and channel catfish bite is wide open. Blues are being caught in 2-4 feet using fresh cut shad. The channels are coming out of 15-25 feet using prepared bait such as punch and dip baits. Trophy blue catfish are slowing down as our waters are warming. Still seeing fish up to 60 pounds being caught in 1-4 feet of water on rod-and-reel. Crappie are spawning right now. Fishing shallow on warmer days is key. The largemouth bite is good on docks and riprap with crankbaits, hogs and worms are all catching them in 1-4 feet. Report by Captain Michael Littlejohn, Lake Tawakoni Guide Service.

Texoma GOOD. Water normal stain; 57 degrees; 1.86 feet below pool. Striped bass are good using live shad and cut bait anchored in 45-65 feet of water thumping the boat and running a splasher to get the fish under the boat. Recent rains will have a lot of big female fish up river but look for them on flats and structure with swim baits in 12-25 feet of water. Crappie are good on jigs using electronics to fish brush in the little mineral arm 15-22 feet of water. Also seeing fish in the creeks 2-4 feet of water on brush. Smallmouth or largemouth bass are slow fishing docks and structure with crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Look for SM on gravel beds along the bluffs in 6-12 feet of water. Catfish are slow on cut gizzard shad anchored near the rivers in 5-10 feet of water but starting to see eater size fish coming on ledges and flats in 40-55 feet of water.

Toledo Bend GOOD. Water slightly stained; 62 degrees; 2.40 feet below pool. Spring started off with a freeze. Water temperature is running 59-63 degrees and the clarity is clear. Lots of bass are still spawning in 1-5 feet of water hitting wacky-worms and senkos. There are good numbers of bass starting to show up that have already spawned, these fish spawned on that February full moon. These fish can be caught on shallow running crankbait and Carolina rig lizards.

“Fishing is a pastime that brings people together and the ShareLunker Program is no exception,” said Natalie Goldstrohm, Toyota ShareLunker program coordinator. “This season we have had the opportunity to celebrate two father and son duos that have landed fish of a lifetime.”

Keith and Kyle both arrived at O.H. Ivie on Monday and the primary goal was for Keith to land a ShareLunker.

“I fished all day with Kyle on Monday and catching a ShareLunker is definitely not as easy as it looks,” said Hall. “We targeted several big fish, but I couldn’t catch anything, so we headed back out Tuesday morning. It was freezing cold and finally at about 10:30 a.m. we spotted one, so I started working on trying to catch it. I was using a Berkley worm on a new Full Send Series rod, and it took several casts to get the cast exactly right, but suddenly, she bit. We got her in the boat, weighed her and then headed to Elm Creek Marina to put her on the certified scale.”

The catch was a personal best for Keith, who fished with Kyle last year around the same time. A year ago, he caught roughly 22 fish over 10 pounds and 12.83 pounds was his personal best prior to Tuesday’s catch. He gave up after two weeks last collection season, went home and decided to try again this year.

MAURICE WALKER

Maurice Walker was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 21, 2024. The following day he would have celebrated 67 years of marriage with the love of his life, Lorene. Arrangements are under the direction of Wise Funeral Home, Bonham, TX.

Maurice was born at home in Desert, TX on October 28, 1937 to James and Rassie Walker. Maurice grew up in Windom and at the age of thirteen the family moved to Dallas. He attended South Oak Cliff High School. He married Lorene VanHooser on March 22, 1957. Maurice and Lorene moved back to Fannin County in 1995. Dedication and hard work was at the very center of Maurice’s life. He worked for Horn Blueprint Company and Midwest Surveying Service as a sales manager. Maurice enjoyed working with cattle, hunting, and cheering his grandchildren on at their sporting events. He was a very kind and generous man, having never met a stranger. Maurice will be fondly remembered for his love of the great outdoors, outgoing personality, and devotion to his wife and family.

He is preceded in death by parents, James and Rassie Walker, brother, Harold Walker, and great grandson, Nash Walker.

Those left to cherish his memory, wife of 67 years, Lorene Walker, sons, Steve Walker and wife Leesa, Russell Walker and wife Michele, sister, Jimmie Turbyfill, grandchildren, Ryan Walker (Ashley), Jamie Kelley (Arthur), Trent Walker (Jerica), 9 great- grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Monday, March 25, 2024 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Wise Funeral Home Chapel. The service was held the following day at the same location at 1:00pm. Burial followed at Crossroads Cemetery in Blue Ridge, TX.

IRENE BROWN SISK

Irene Brown Sisk was born November 10, 1927, in Hedley, Texas, to Nell Reavis Brown and Oscar Harmon Brown. She passed away peacefully in her home on March 25, 2024. Arrangements are under the direction of Wise Funeral Home, Bonham, TX. Irene grew up in Titus County and attended schools in Mount Vernon, Texas, before graduating from Winfield Public Schools in 1945. She attended college at East Texas Baptist College in Marshall, Texas. She graduated from ETBC in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Business Administration. Irene met her husband, Walter Lee Sisk, Jr. at ETBC and they were married July 2, 1948. They were married for 67 years before his death in 2015. Upon graduation from college, Irene taught school in Harleton, Texas, and Waskom, Texas, before moving to Dallas in 1952 so Walter could attend medical school. Dr. Sisk was in the Army Medical Corps for four years and they moved to San Francisco, CA, Ft. Hood, TX, and Philadelphia, PA.

The Sisk family moved to Bonham in 1961 where Dr. Sisk set up his practice. Irene became a stay-at-home mother to her four children and spent her time being involved in church and school activities. She enjoyed family gatherings and cooking for her large family. She loved having her family come to visit. She also had a great love for beautiful plants and flowers. She was involved in the Women’s Auxiliary at Fannin County Hospital. She loved to fish! In later years, Irene went back to school and became a nursing home administrator, working at Seven Oaks Nursing Home in Bonham. She enjoyed playing bridge and 42.

In 2022, Irene received the Golden Lightkeeper Alumni Award at East Texas Baptist University. She helped establish the Sisk Medical Clinic on campus to serve the student’s and faculty’s medical needs, and she set up an endowed scholarship in memory of her late husband for students entering the medical field.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, James E. Brown, her grandson, Jamey Sisk, and her daughter-in-law, Eloise Sisk.

WISE FUNERAL HOME

Irene is survived by her children: Dana (Kay) Sisk of Bonham; Mike Sisk of Bonham; Scott (Gina) Sisk of Wylie; Suzanne (Larry) Melhart of Bullard. Grandchildren: Jon (Amber) Sisk; Matthew (Mary) Sisk; Daniel (Casey) Sisk; David Sisk; Andrew (Morgan) Melhart; Tricia (Jeff) Cox; James Melhart; and Amy (Todd) Avery, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Virginia (Tommy) Free of Douglass, Texas and nieces and nephews. The Sisk family would like to thank the many kind and loving caregivers who assisted in their mother’s care over the past eight years. Memorials may be made to Boyd Baptist Church, Trinity Baptist Church or The Sisk Scholarship Fund at East Texas Baptist University, One Tiger Drive, Marshall, Texas 75670.

The funeral service was held Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Wise Valley Chapel @ Wise Funeral Home starting at 1:00pm, burial followed at Willow Wild Cemetery.

Joseph Sowell In September 1836, Joseph Sowell (1804-1841) came to Texas shortly after the republic was established. Settling on his 1280-acre land grant just south of the Red River, Sowell made his home about 1.5 miles northwest of this site. In the short time he lived in Texas, Sowell was closely involved with the creation and development of Fannin County and with the protection of the frontier settlers. Upon the creation of Fannin County in 1837 and its organization the following year, Sowell was appointed to the county board of land commissioners and served as county treasurer. He and fellow pioneer J.S. Scott built a tavern at Warren, the first county seat, where Sowell had served as postmaster. As leader of his militia company to defend the frontier and its settlers, Sowell led several attacks against the region’s Native Americans. Additionally, he served as quartermaster for the Army of the Republic of Texas. On October 31, 1841, a band of Indians raided the horse stable at the tavern in Warren. In the ensuing struggle, which involved the guests and proprietors of the tavern as well, Joseph Sowell was killed, leaving behind a widow and four children. He was buried near his homesite. As an early settler in northeast Texas whose interest and concern for his duty as a citizen was realized in the positions he held and his active involvement in local affairs, Joseph Sowell played a significant role in Fannin County’s early development. The Little Sit: April 6th, 2024, 6:30 am Pad-H on the West side of Hagerman NWR

If you want to learn how to identify the birds of North Texas, the "Little Sit" is the perfect way to start.

Meet Jack and the Bird Census Team while learning how to identify the birds of North Texas, and enjoy the beautiful sunrise over Lake Texoma! Modeled after Cornell's national "Big Sit" event, a group of dedicated birders invite you to join them at sunrise to conduct a bird count as multiple species fly to the water and the surrounding land to feed. Leaders will bring spotting scopes and will provide tips for identification of the many species you will see. This event lasts a couple of hours, but all are welcome to come and go as they please. Participants are advised to bring a chair, binoculars and water. We meet on the first Saturday of each month, 30 minutes before sunrise to watch the birds come into the water and begin to feed. We usually stay out for 2-3 hours, but you are welcome for all or part of the Little Sit.

NOTICE OF REQUIREMENT TO COMPLY WITH THE SUBDIVISION SERVICE EXTENSION POLICY OF FROGNOT SPECIAL UTILITY DISTRICT

Pursuant to Chapter 13.2502 of the Texas Water Code, Frognot Special Utility District hereby gives notice that any person who subdivides land by dividing any lot, tract, or parcel of land, within the service area of Frognot Special Utility District, Certificate of Convenience and Necessity No. 10164, in Collin, Fannin and Hunt Counties, into two or more lots or sites for the purpose of sale or development, whether immediate or future, including re-subdivision of land for which a plat has been filed and recorded or requests more than two water connections on a single contiguous tract of land must comply with the Developer, Subdivision, and Non-Standard Service Requirements (the “Subdivision Policy”) contained in Frognot Special Utility District’s tariff.

Frognot Special Utility District is not required to extend retail water utility service to a service applicant in a subdivision where the developer of the subdivision has failed to comply with the Subdivision Policy.

Applicable elements of the Subdivision include:

Evaluation by Frognot Special Utility District of the impact a proposed subdivision service extension will make on Frognot Special Utility District’s water supply system and payment of the costs for this evaluation;

Payment of reasonable costs of fees by the developer for providing water supply capacity;

Payment of fees for reserving water supply capacity;

Forfeiture of reserved water supply capacity for failure to pay applicable fees;

Payment of costs of any improvements to Frognot Special Utility District’s system that are necessary to provide the water service;

Construction according to design approved by Frognot Special Utility District and dedication by the developer of water facilities within the subdivision following inspection.

To repeat at the top of this list validates the enterprise focus on customer service and process improvement across all divisions of the company, particularly in the operations and customer support organizations.

The ACSI, first published in 1994 to provide information on satisfaction with the quality of products and services available to consumers, is the only national cross-industry measure of customer satisfaction in the United States. This year, the ACSI Energy Utilities Study is based on interviews with 28,887 residential customers, chosen at random and contacted via email between January and December 2023.

Overall satisfaction with natural gas service providers is
