AFIDA reports are also required when there are changes in land use, such as from agricultural to nonagricultural use. Foreign investors must also file a report when there is a change in the status of ownership.

The information from AFIDA reports is used to prepare an annual report to Congress. These annual reports to Congress, as well as more information, are available on the FSA AFIDA webpage.

Fannin County Commissioners Court – Marketing & Litigation Discussed

Tuesday, April 16, 2024, Fannin County Judge Newt Cunningham called to order at 9:04 a.m., the Regular Meeting of the Fannin County Commissioners Court. Quorum was established with all County Commissioners and County Judge present. The Invocation was led by Pastor Michael Evans of the Windom United Methodist Church. Pledges were led by Major James Manis, Retired.

4. Introductions: Judge Cunningham introduced and welcomed Republican Candidate Elect for Precinct 1, Troy Waggoner.

5. Public Forum: Judge Cunningham noted his disappointment in hearing that during the recent election period, there were individuals who had been tearing up candidate’s campaign signs from various sites with one of those sites being the front yard of one of the candidates. He admonished those doing such acts to refrain from campaigning in this wrong manner in the future but to try instead to be kind, Christian and collegial to one another. He advised anyone running for office who knows of supporters engaging in bad acts, should discourage that behavior.

6. Approve payment of bills – County Auditor: Fannin County Assistant Auditor Sherry Zindars noted the bills were $373,846.25 and the payroll was $333,542.61. A motion was made by Commissioner Magness to approve payment with Commissioner Self seconding the motion which passed.

Approve purchase of a 2019 Kenworth T800 for $109,871.30 from VT Trucking for Precinct 3 – Purchasing Agent: Fannin County Purchasing Agent Edwina Lane first explained how there were six bids received on this with a range of $109,871.30 to $276,000. Commissioner Magness then made the motion to approve the purchase with Commissioner Self seconding the motion which passed.

These Smothered Pork Chops are a classic Southern dish made in just one pot! Tender and juicy pork chops are seared until browned, then simmered in a rich and flavorful bacon gravy.

JUICY SMOTHERED PORK CHOPS

1 lb thick cut boneless pork chops ( aim for ¾" thick), room temperature

½ c. all purpose flour

1 ½ Tbsp. seasoning salt

1 tsp. onion powder

1 tsp. paprika

½ tsp. garlic powder

½ tsp. dried thyme

¼ tsp. black pepper

2 slices thick cut bacon (diced)

1 medium onion (diced)

½ c. fresh mushrooms (sliced)

1 Tbsp. salted butter

¾ c. chicken broth

¼ c. heavy whipping cream

Place pork chops on the counter to come to room temperature. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add 2 Tbsp. oil. In a medium bowl, combine flour, seasoning salt, onion powder, paprika, garlic powder, thyme and pepper. Dredge pork chops in flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Reserve remaining flour mixture. Place in the preheated pan and cook on each side for 2-3 minutes until golden. Once browned, remove to a plate and cover to keep warm. In the same pan, cook bacon until crispy. Add butter and allow to melt. Stir in onion and mushrooms, cook until softened. Stir in 2 Tbsp. of

Approve going out for bid for janitorial services for County buildings – Purchasing Agent: Ms. Lane noted that since going out for a bid had not been done for these services since 2021, this action was being requested in the interest of competitive pricing for comparative purposes. Commissioner McQueen made the motion to approve with

the reserved flour mixture and cook for 1-2 minutes, until no white remains. Add additional butter if needed. Add chicken broth and cream and stir until combined. Add the pork chops back to the pan and simmer until the sauce has thickened and the pork chops reach an internal temperature of 145°. Serve and ENJOY!!!

5 acres of County owned property located on FM 897 – County Judge: Judge Cunningham led a discussion on the practicality of rezoning this property before considering marketing it as the county isn’t using the property and its sell can bring needed revenue into the county (“I don’t want to pay for things using tax dollars.”) He further noted that the influx of monies received from its sell could prevent the county from going into debt for projects such as the Justice Center. After much discussion with one of the commissioners expressing his thought of possibly relocating his precinct’s barn to the site, a motion was made by Commissioner Magness to approve marketing the acreage with Commissioner McQueen seconding the motion which passed with one nay vote by Commissioner Kopf.

10. Discussion and possible action regarding installation of fiber optic cable to the Tax Assessor-Collector Office –County Judge: Judge Cunningham explained problems being had with the current system and then described how this would improve needed communication and allow the county to continue doing its job. He then noted that Fannin County’s Facilities Management Coordinator Ruben Moreno, would be doing the work with some technical assistance from AT&T and Frontier Cable. After some discussion with Judge Cunningham noting the scope of the work and how it needs to be done before October, a motion was made by Commissioner Mag-

ness to approve with Commissioner McQueen seconding the motion which passed.

Judge: Judge Cunningham noted some pricing was received from the contractor last week, but the number was rejected by the county with there being another meeting scheduled to receive revised pricing next week.

Fannin County – County Judge: Judge Cunningham noted he is asking Commissioner Kopf to work with himself and Attorney Andy Garner to get together a meeting of the water agency board members to move forward and possibly having some members who are no longer interested in serving, to vote themselves off the board.

16. Fannin County road issues – County Judge: Judge Cunningham commented on the destructive power 6 ½ inches of rain has in washing gravel off the roads into culverts. He noted with more rain in the forecast, it will probably get worse before it gets better.

Discussion regarding Recreational Vehicle Parks – County Judge: Judge Cunningham commented on a rumor of possible litigation action being threatened against the county by developers unhappy with the county’s requirements for RV Parks (asphalt roads, certain right of ways and facilities located in the parks.) He commented on his belief that the county’s laws are constitutional and reasonable before noting that if any believe that the law is unconstitutional, they should go to court with their complaints and if it is decided by a higher court that the laws are not constitutional, he will go before the Commissioners Court to ask the laws to be changed.

Commissioners and County Judge: Commissioner McQueen thanked everyone for their attendance before noting that 3 major culverts were washed out and advised that though they are being worked on, it would be a “fairly slow process.”

Commissioner Self commented on the recent “Steaks on Main” event in downtown Bonham that he had the pleasure to be one of the judges of and noted how he wanted to commend the community for the way they came together for this fund-raising event for the 4H program before wishing all a good week.

Commissioner Magness wished everyone a good week before commenting on the short Commissioners Court.

Commissioner Kopf stated his appreciation for everyone’s attendance before advising everyone to enjoy the cool Spring temperatures.

Judge Cunningham urged everyone to keep Israel and the Middle East in their prayers with everything going on over there and to be grateful for what we have here in Fannin County before thanking everyone for their attendance.

Supporting The Gospel

The gospel is to be preached to “every creature” (Mark 16:15) and “all nations” (Matthew 28:19). Those that gladly receive the word will be baptized (Acts 2:41) “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 28:19) “for the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38). Those that “continue to believe and are baptized shall be saved” (Mark 16:16). Paul reminds us that we cannot be “ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth” (Romans 1:16).

Peter asks the question, “what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?”

(1 Peter 4:17); Paul answers,

that Jesus will come “In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power” (2 Thessalonians 1:8-9). If we desire to “partakers of God’s promise in Christ by the gospel” (Ephesians 3:6), then we must obey the gospel. The gospel must be lived. Paul informs us that “the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel” (1 Corinthians 9:14). Those that live the gospel will be “holy and unblameable and unreproveable in His sight, if ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel” (Colossians 1:22-23). message to the Philippians, “let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ” (Philippians 1:27).

The Lord commanded, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). Paul told Timothy, “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine” (2 Timothy 4:2).

Peter demanded, “If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God” (1 Peter 4:11).

The gospel is God’s message. This gospel is the ‘good news’ that God sent His son, Jesus Christ, to die, be buried, and raise again for the purpose to be our sacrifice for sins, build His church, and be the standard for us to follow so that all can make the decision to obey the gospel, live the gospel, teach the gospel, and be saved.

Sunday Morning Re-Wind “Fear Not Tomorrow”

Hello everyone!

Bible tells us in Philippians 4:6-7, “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” We all face situations in our lives in which we worry about how they will turn out every day. It may be our finances, our health, or what have you. What we do know is that the Lord is aware of these things, and He wants to help us. He has promised to never leave us, nor forsake us. We will never have true peace in our lives unless we let go of our anxieties and turn them over to Him. Just like the songwriter Stuart Hamblen wrote in one of his songs, “I know not what the future holds, but I know who holds the future.”

Once again I am going in a slightly different direction this week. One of my favorite quartets is the Kingdom Heirs Quartet. This song is from their 2003 album, “Going On With the Song.” I absolutely love the message in this song. It’s a great message for us to remember when we are going through the trials of our lives.

Where Is My Time?

Wednesday night Chris and I led a study of a passage that contained the parable of the Good Samaritan. I shared with those present some wise words I heard as a young man from an elderly evangelist that was preaching a revival for which I was leading the music. The preacher shared that contained in the parable were various responses to the man who had been beaten, robbed, and left for dead. Each of these responses represent three attitudes we can have toward others:

1) The thieves’ attitude was, “What is yours is mine and I’m going to take it.”

2) The priest and Levite had the attitude of, “What is mine is mine and I’m going to keep it.”

3) The Good Samaritan’s attitude was, “What is mine is yours and I’m willing to give it.”

A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.

Regulation of Recreation(al Vehicles)

After falling in love with the small-town feeling and rural scenery, many of us consider Fannin County home. Unfortunately, the metroplex is expanding our way, and only getting closer with development in Sherman. This growth is causing us to see an increase in RV parks.

So, what is an RV park? Silly question, right? We lake-lovers know the answer. Like many of you, I go to Lake Bonham every summer to enjoy a long weekend in the water with family. So I assume that RV parks are a means of recreation. Nope! My weekend vacation spot is now a low-cost mailing address. This isn’t what I remember about my childhood, and it’s not the type of environment I want our children to experience. Maybe I’m lost in all this growth, or behind with the times, but maybe you have the same thoughts as I do. What is an RV park to you?

So, should we regulate RV parks? In my opinion, we NEED to regulate RV parks. With development coming our way, we need to ensure positive growth so our children will thrive, and allowing RV housing is a disservice to our children. Studies show that “high-density housing units promote serious violent crime,” which local law enforcement would probably confirm (Stucky/ Ottensmann). After the presentation on child trafficking, I feel called to protect our children, and these encampments are not doing our county justice.

Citizens of Fannin County, this is our opportunity to keep our beloved, rural homeland, protect the safety of citizens, and ensure quality of life for all current and incoming Fanninites. Please share your thoughts on what we can do, as a county, to ensure this growth only promotes the beauty of our green fields, clear skies, and welcoming lakes. Let’s keep Fannin County the home you fell in love with!

History, noun : Carson Cemetery

Directions: From Ector, take FM 898 north for 2.5 miles.

Marker Text: According to local oral tradition, this cemetery was named for John Carson, who once owned the adjacent land. Some sources say one grave was in existence before 1842; others maintain the first graves date to an 1842 Indian raid at the nearby home Dr. and Mrs. W. M. Hunter. The three victims of the raid were Mrs. Minerva Hunter, her young daughter Elizabeth, and an African American maid whose name is unknown. By 1878, the cemetery trustees acquired title to the land and they later added more acreage. Among those buried here are land donors Mr. & Mrs. W. E. Alderson, Mr. & Mrs. W. R. Luton, and T. M. Newell. Minerva Hunter’s grave was marked in 1942, a century after her death.

gade Band, The Lindsey Family, Sweet Song String Band, a Native American Pow Wow Dancer. The Tribal Evolution Belly Dancers will perform their vaudeville steampunk show. A best dressed contest will be held at 1:00 before the beard and mustache contest. In the 500 Block of Main, you will experience vendors and food. The Red River Valley Dulcimer Club will be playing throughout the day. The Denison Arts Council will have their 517 Gallery open with an art show and from 1-3:00 p.m. they will feature ghost stories, poetry, and storytelling. Across the street in the Senior Center, there will be artists, makers, and crafters with demonstrations and sales. Some of the demonstrations will include quilting, painting, woodcarving, fiber arts, ceramics, and a luthier. There will also be children’s activities and genealogy research by the Preston Trail Chapter of the NSDAR.

Just up the street at the 700 Block of Main, there will be a frontier encampment with music by Rickey Pittman. Frontier Village will have blacksmithing, black pot cooking, trapping, woodworking, and more. Kids activities will feature panning for gold, kid roping, and horse shoe throwing. The Downtown Denison Farmers Market will be there all day for their season opener. The Choctaw Cultural Team will have a display and demonstrate how to play stickball. A parade will be held at 2:00 p.m. and many of the characters throughout the day will appear in horse drawn carriages. The carriages and wagons will be shuttling people up and down Main Street for free the rest of the day (except for during the gunfights!).

Over the past eight months, Edwina attended at least six of the eight sessions to learn various aspects of the industry and take deep dives into critical issues of their job and responsibilities as a public procurement official. The classes were daylong events, presented by experts in the field and facilitated by experienced professionals. Successful completion of the NEPO program required active participation in session discussions, homework, and contribution to a group project.

Our Good Shepherd

“I am the Good Shepherd.” This is picture language, the oldest, simplest, and most effective of all languages. When you hear it, do you not understand, are you not attracted by the eternal, unchanging picture of Christ?

Truth is, we are all sheep in need of a Good Shepherd, a Good Shepherd who is willing to lay down His life for us (John 10:15). Furthermore, our Good Shepherd desires to add to His sheepfold other sheep who are not yet His. Jesus said, “I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.” (John 10:16, ESV) Therefore, our

The psalmist says, “your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4, ESV) It was not poetic necessity on David’s part but the accuracy of the Holy Spirit that gave this double name to the Shepherd’s staff. Sometimes it is a rod used to lightly touch when ignorant feet begin to stray, to tap when perverse eyes are attracted to pastures filled with weeds and poisonous plants, and sometimes the rod is laid severely across the shoulders of willful wanderers. It is because He is the Good Shepherd that there is found in His hand an instrument of correction. For in the heart of the best sheep there lurks the seeds of weakness and ignorance and malice, thus, the rod falls light and heavy. Such a rod, the Law, is placed upon the Christian, who in life knows its pain is to warn, to guide, and to safeguard. But Christ’s rod is also called a staff: something to lean on when the road grows steep; something to cling to when the going grows rough; something to fight with when the wolves circle round. In the hands of the Good Shepherd, it is always ready to conquer and defeat the evils within and without that would pull down the boldest sheep.

Good Shepherd has said to His sheep, that is to us, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19–20, ESV)

Make my sheepfold larger so that many others may be brought to still waters and green pastures, there to be refreshed as you are refreshed, to be safe as you are safe in My sheepfold.

Who would not gladly follow this Good Shepherd, knowing all the while He alone knows the way to His Father’s home?

We pray: Loving and gracious Good Shepherd who redeemed us, Your sheep, by laying down Your life for us, keep us always in the safety of Your sheepfold, guiding us with rod and staff lest we be lost in the wilderness of sin. In the name of Jesus. Amen

Jordan Kuenstler will discuss her book, Heavy Date Over Germany: The Life And Times of B-17 Tail Gunner Ray Perry, at the WWII History Roundtable Audie Murphy Chapter meeting in the American Cotton/Murphy Museum in Greenville. The program will begin at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Kuenstler was a Perry neighbor and interviewed the veteran, father of former Texas Governor Rick Perry. Kuenstler is director of the Museum of the West Texas Frontier in Stamford, Texas.

In World War II more than 12,000 B-17 Flying Fortresses at $3.3 million apiece were built for action. Lost in combat were 4,735 Queen of the Skies. Each had a particular name, and of the 63 percent that survived missions the second one called Heavy Date, part of the 336th bomb squadron of Jimmy Doolittle’s 95th Bomb Group out of Horham Airfield in England, carried 19 year old Ray Perry from Haskell, Texas. He was the tail gunner, still alive in April 1945 after 37 missions.

The average age of the heavy bomber pilots was only 26 and that was just a couple years older than the average age of the crew of 10. Perry’s pilot was 26. One pilot flew 91 missions! Some went to larger assignments, such as Paul Tibbets of the B-19 Enola Gay. Curtis LeMay became head of the Strategic Air Command. After service, Tom Landry became an NFL coach. Others in B-17 crews who made their careers famous were actors Clark Gable and Jimmy

Many more became leaders of hundreds of communities.

Tail gunners were lost in history’s haze, but Perry saved a mission bomb tag from all assignments. Each Kuenstler chapter discusses the date, the target, and the results completed by the durable machine that ended the war with Germany one month after Perry finally qualified to take a break and return home on leave. A part of the 8th Air Force, his was the only group awarded three Distinguished Unit Citations. The story of Perry’s tail gunner rear view at about 182 miles per hour is fascinating. The Flying Fortresses were in 321 missions before April 20, 1945. They lost 156 of their B-17s with 569 crewmen killed in action. Many times the tail of the craft was shot up or off!

“Lucky to survive” was a normal phrase when the beat up B-17s finally arrived back to base.

MARTHA ANN RICHARDS

Martha Ann Richards passed into the loving arms of her heavenly father on April 13, 2024. She went peacefully in the comfort of her home with her devoted family by her side. Arrangements are under the direction of Wise Funeral Home, Bonham, TX.

Martha met the man of her dreams, Ernie Richards and they were married on February 1, 1969. Her steadfast faith in God sustained her as she raised her children and grandchildren. Martha was an excellent cook; she loved cooking for her large family, church family, and all of her friends. Some of their fondest memories with Martha were made around the kitchen table. Martha also enjoyed traveling, lake life, and shopping. Her favorite times were spent in a canoe, or floating the river. Martha’s faith in Jesus was evident in how she taught others about forgiveness and understanding. Time and time again she would inspire those around her by the kindness and love that was shown. Martha’s legacy will live on in the lives of her children and grandchildren.

Martha is preceded in death by her parents, Judy Hutsell, Arlie Hutsell, Thomas Reagan Vance, sisters, Shirley Pannell, Tootsie Rebecca Palmer, and granddaughter, Lauren Crowell.

She is survived by husband of 55 years, Ernie Richards, daughter, Judith Hix and husband Alan, son, Joel Richards and wife Sarah, brother, Eli Grayson, sister, Beverly Payne, grandchildren, James and Chelsey Speed, David Speed, Suzanne Wine and husband Daniel, Joel Lee, Kaylin Richards, Alianna Richards, great grandchildren, Scout Speed, Trace Speed, Andrew Wine, and Alison Wine.

Services were held for Martha on April 16, 2024 at 12:00pm at Wise Valley Chapel, 219 W. Sam Rayburn Dr, Bonham, TX. Burial followed at Carson Cemetery, Savoy, TX.

Fannin County History: The Road Down Memory Lane

Ira Wayne Andrews, 84, of Bonham, TX passed away on April 15, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his wife, son and granddaughter. Ira was born on August 21, 1939 at home in Moran. TX. He was raised by his beloved aunt, Nellie Denise. Aunt Nellie encouraged him to join the United States Navy. At the tender age of 17 Ira proudly joined. Little did he realize that the time spent serving would always be his fondest and proudest moments. Ira was the kind of man that could fix anything. He passed his love of cars on to his son David, and together they enjoyed working on fixing them. Ira was a friend to all and will be remembered for his love of family, watching westerns, and the Navy.

He is preceded in death by, first wife, Mary Andrews, aunt, Nellie Denise, sister, Clara Riggs and son, Mike Andrews. Those left to cherish his memory, wife, Carol Thiebaud, son, David Andrews, granddaughters, Ashley Stone and Heather Andrews.

The funeral was held on Thursday, April 18th, at Wise Valley Chapel with visitation starting 1hr prior to service. Burial was be the following day, Friday, April 19th at Restland Cemetery, Dallas, TX at 11:00am.

Phillip Eugene McKenzie passed away in his home in Savoy, on April 13, 2024 at the age of 62. Phillip was born to Lemax and Mildred (Rhudy) McKenzie on July 12, 1961 in Bonham, Texas as the middle child of three siblings.

Phillip was widely known and recognized as a lover of people. He was energized being with people. He had the perfect job working with the public as a stocker for many years for Bonham Walmart and Brookshire’s.

Phillip was an ardent Christian and loved to tell people about The Lord. In recent times, he was excited to give away little Jesus figurines. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Savoy. He wanted everyone to know and follow Jesus. Phillip was a storyteller and his favorite stories were told over and over even if his listeners knew the details by heart. He loved his family and doted on his great nephews. He was a prankster, loved to pull jokes on people. Some of his favorite times included having DJ sessions with Zane and watching Jensen play baseball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lemax and Mildred McKenzie.

He is survived by his brother, Ricky McKenzie and wife Tina; sister, Kathy Miller; brother-in-law, Bryan Miller; niece, Alexandria McKenzie; nephew, Christopher Miller and wife Michelle; great nephews, Zane and Jensen Miller; along with extended family and friends.

A memorial service was held by the family on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church 207 S. Ashford St, Savoy, TX 75479.

Catfish are good, shallow 5-15 feet on cut bait. Crappie are starting to show up in brush piles decent on sunny days jigs or minnows. Report by Justin Wilson, Wilson Outdoor Connection. Texoma GOOD. Water normal stain; 58 degrees; 1.53 feet below pool. Striped bass fishing is great drifting live shad around the islands or past the bridges near the rivers. Rain should finish off the spawn and look for bait on the banks with feeding fish near them. Top waters are working on sandy flats in 2-8 feet of water. Smallmouth bass are good on live shad along the bluffs on the banks in 2-4 feet of water. Also fair on spooks early and look for largemouth off the banks in 6-12 feet of water on main lake points near rocks. Catfish are fair on cut shad along the rocks in 30-45 feet of water. Drifting cut rough fish or gizzard shad in 5-10 feet of water near the river could produce a big fish after a rain with an inflow of dirty water. Crappie are good on brush piles in 12-18 feet of water on jigs using electronics to locate active fish working in and out of the brush. Look for spawners shallow with warmer temperatures in the forecast. Report by Jacob Orr, Guaranteed Guide Service Lake Texoma. Threadfin shad are spawning along the banks. Hybrid stripers are good on topwaters in the morning along rocky banks. Some days the egrets are working leading the way to fish. Some schooling activity under gulls. After the morning bite ends switch to swimbaits and Alabama rigs in 10-25 feet of water on the edges and dropoffs. DC-ex Mauppin garners first collegiate s'ball win

Dominating 15-2A titlist Trenton tops postseason-bound softball teams

ADA, Okla. -- Former Dodd City multiple-sport standout Lindsey Mauppin earned her first collegiate softball win on April 12 for East Central University (Okla.). Mauppin, a true freshman, garnered the victory after posting two and one-third innings of scoreless two-hit late

relief with no walks during the Lady Tigers' eventual 6-5 home walk-off win against Arkansas Tech University in a Great American Conference series opener. Mauppin excelled in all sports in which she competed for Dodd City for four years. She helped the Lady Hornets three-consecutive times reach the Class 1A State softball tournament -- and win the 1A championship in 2021. Mauppin also equated a four-time State qualifier in girls' cross country, a sport in which she also competes for ECU.

Senior Ely Longoria garnered a first-team selection to lead Bonham players earning notoriety in the All-District 11-4A boys' soccer awards for 2024.

Senior Ryan Gandara earned a second-team selection and junior Victor Koitschev received an honorable mention for

the Purple Warriors, who swept Pilot Point during district play. Bonham will remain in 11-4A in 2025 and again vie against Aubrey, Celina, Farmersville, Frisco Panther Creek, Gainesville and Pilot Point. Anna, also an 11-4A opponent this season for the Purple Warriors, will compete in Class 5A in 2025.

Bonham will remain in 11-4A in 2025 with Aubrey, Celina, Farmersville, Frisco Panther Creek, Gainesville and Pilot Point, losing Anna which is moving into a Class 5A district.

Postseason softball will commence April 25-27, with bidistrict games for most Fannin County qualifiers. Class 2A Trenton will enter the playoffs as the lone district champion, having dominated its 15-2A competition while defending its title. The Lady Tigers, a regional finalist last spring for the first time since 2016, through play on April 16, had outscored their district competition -151-5 -- en route to 15-2A's No. 1 seed in the 2A postseason. Honey Grove and Sam Rayburn also secured 2A postseason berths via 15-2A, but had not determined via which each will advance, through play on April 16.

The Lady Warriors equated a bi-district finalist last year after tying with the Lady Rebels for the fourth and final district 2A playoffs berth. Meanwhile, Dodd City, a 1A State Tournament qualifier five of the last six completed softball seasons, secured 152A's top seed again and Ector, which is returning to the sport after a year absence, garnered

the district's second berth in the 1A postseason. Both will advance to the 1A regional quarterfinals, having bi-district byes since 16-2A this season did not include any participating 1A teams. Elsewhere, Bonham, an area finalist last year, assured a second-straight postseason via 11-3A -- before returning to 4A for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

The Lady Warriors -- part of a four-way district championship in 2023 -- advanced as the district's No. 4 seed -- again from a tightly-contested 11-3A top four.

Nakayoshi Initiative Joins the North Texas Food Bank in the Fight Against Hunger

Japanese community forms an affinity group to help close the hunger gap in North Texas.

April 18, 2024 (Dallas, TX) – The North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) announced the formation of the Nakayoshi Initiative, the newest cultural affinity group to join the organization in its fight against hunger. The Nakayoshi Initiative is a volunteer-driven grassroots movement to channel resources and contributions of the Japanese community to fight hunger through the work of the North Texas Food Bank.

The Japanese affinity group celebrated its founding during an April 6, 2024, event at NTFB’s Perot Family Campus that featured State Sen. Nathan Johnson, Plano Mayor John Muns, NiHao Food Bank Initiative founder James Huang, HungerMitao founders Raj and Anna Asava, and Dr. Sam Shichijo, the honorary consul of Japan in Dallas who is spearheading the Nakayoshi Initiative.

“The North Texas Food Bank is excited about the formation of the Nakayoshi Initiative and

so grateful for the commitment and support of the Japanese American community in looking for ways to contribute to addressing the complex issue of food insecurity,” said NTFB President and CEO Trisha Cunningham. “Nakayoshi roughly translates to ‘good friend,’ and we are excited about having this organization as friends of the Food Bank as we work together to close the hunger gap and strive for a hunger-free, healthy North Texas.”
