“Evangelism In The Dugout”

By Dax Bruner Folks, meet Gracie Eichman, a 12 year old student leader in the Gober Baptist Church youth group. This year Gracie decided that she wanted to try her hand at softball, so she

joined her team in Dodd City. Everything was going great, she’s learning a lot and having an awesome time! Then, the schedule changed, games were now going to be on Wednesday nights. The same nights that

she meets to worship with her youth group. Gracie is faced with a decision that countless other Christian students are faced with, what’s the priority, church or sports. This is probably the biggest challenge currently facing youth ministry today. During certain seasons

we can lose up to 40% attendance on a Wednesday night because of practice or games. Emails and messages to administrators and coaches from their youth group leaders, in an effort to work together, go unanswered leaving students in an impossible situation, so the

priority becomes sports. When Gracie was faced with the choice she prayed with her family, shed tears with her family, read scripture with her family, and chose evangelism with her family. The Great Commision in Matthew 28 tells us to “go and make dis-

ciples”. So, Wednesday, April 21, 2021, Gracie went into the dugout of the newly scheduled Wednesday night game, brought out her Bible and led her team in an inspiring scripture reading and prayer. They didn’t win the game, but they received the Word of God, and that’s much more valuable. Coaches and parents alike can learn a lot from a 12 year old girl with her Bible. Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Great job Roary and Dawn Eichman, you’re raising a leader! goberyouth@gmail.com

Bonham, TX– This summer, Rylee Dawber from I.W. Evans Intermediate School in Bonham will join outstanding elementary school students from across the state to take part in a unique academic and career- oriented development experience, the National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): Pathways to STEM, taking place in, Houston. NYLF Pathways to STEM is one of the Envision by WorldStrides

family of programs that enable students to explore their interests and experience learning beyond the classroom. Rylee was nominated by her fifth-grade gifted and talented teacher, Mrs. Pat Goodwin. In addition to STEM learning, Rylee is also passionate about reading, dance, tumbling, basketball and animals. With dreams to attend Texas A&M and becoming a Veterinarian. Rylee is very excited and looking

forward to attending the NYLF and gaining the hands-on experience that the forum provides. “As an alumna of Envision myself, I am excited for Rylee to meet, work, and collaborate with fellow high-aspiring students from other cities and schools,” said Amanda Freitag Thomas, SVP for Envision. “Hands down, my favorite part of attending an Envision program was being with motivated students in an environment designed to help us challenge our assumptions, meet new people, and grow. Creating that same learning environ-

ment is a central focus for all of our programs. At NYLF Pathways to STEM, students build the confidence and skills needed to excel in the classroom while gaining exposure to STEM fields and concepts. They learn how to adapt to and communicate in new situations, to new challenges, and with new people, which, given how rapidly the world is changing due to technology and innovation, are essential skills for success.” Learn more about Envision by WorldStrides by visiting www.envisionexperience.com

He gave the total cost for running the Vaccine Call Center at $16,851. Judge Moore added the times for the Brookshires vaccines are 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and advised all to go on to the Fannin County website to access the appointment form and/or just show up at the sites as there are plenty of openings. 9. Discussion regarding Profit and Loss Statement for March 2021 EMS Services: Bonham Fire Chief Scott Ridling gave a report that included the mention of the decrease of RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus), cases that many children come down with due to the preventative measures taken with Covid. By Bro. Bill Beasley

2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people who are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins, and will heal their land.” If you have been a reader of this column since its beginning in July 2013 you will know something of the experiences that I encountered in World War II. The air strikes against Syria and the dropping of the “Mother of all Bombs” on ISIS positions brought back memories of the Pearl Harbor attack, and our entrance into the World conflict. We need to be in an attitude of prayer for our leadership, that the risks created by their moves will not lead to extensive military conflict. Rather

let us pray that as a peace loving people, America will seek God’s guidance in every decision she makes. May we place ourselves in the position where we can really be “One Nation Under God.” A turning to God is what I saw after December 7, 1941. And that is what we need to see today. Will you look with me today and see what I saw on the night of December 7, 1941, and the week following? As you may remember the day the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor was on a Sunday. I had been a member of the First Baptist Church, Port Naches, Texas just one week. I had enjoyed worshiping with family members. I remember the service as having been kind of regular – nothing unusual. Then it was afternoon when the world learned of the treacherous assault. Fear and trembling gripped our minds and hearts. War was inescapable. When we returned for the evening worship we could not believe our eyes. The auditorium was overflowing with people looking for answers. During the day following, War was

Letter of Support for Casie Partridge

I have known Casie Partridge all of his life. I have known him to be of good, moral character. I believe he will always make the best decision for the majority of his constituents. I do not believe that he has a personal agenda. He has a kind, servant’s heart and comes from a family of loyal, hard-working folks. Many times, I’ve witnessed him making decisions that were always right, even though it was not the easiest path for him. I have been involved in schools’ youth activities and school boards most of my life, and I believe Casie has the attitude and drive to get the job done. I believe Casie is your best choice for Bonham City Council. Political Ad Paid For By Jimmy Herpeche

By Jeanne M. Ashlock - If the proposition to establish a tax limitation passes, any taxpayer that qualifies for an over 65 exemption on their residence within the boundaries of the City of Bonham would receive the benefit of a tax ceiling on the homesteaded portion of their property. It is called a ceiling, rather than a freeze, because you can pay under the ceiling amount but not over it. The City of Bonham portion of the taxes would be calculated as normal

for the qualifying year and for the next year. Whichever of those 2 years is lower sets the ceiling amount going forward. So, no matter the market value or the tax rate, the tax amount you pay would be equal to or lower than the ceiling amount each year. Be aware that if there are substantial improvements made to a property, that would increase the ceiling in the following year. If an individual receiving the benefit of a tax ceiling passes away, the ceiling would be allowed to continue for a surviving spouse if they are at least 55 years of age. If a homeowner moves to another primary residence that is within the boundaries of the city, their tax ceiling is transferable, by percentage, to that new property. Please note this benefit would not apply to disabled homeowners. If you have any questions, you may contact Jeanne M. Ashlock, Director of Support, at the Fannin Central Appraisal District.

Funeral services were held Friday April 16, 2021 at Wise Funeral Chapel at 2pm. Nick (Noah) was a young man with a love of life and a heart for music. It is only fitting that he was known by two names- as one just simply could not sum up his spirit. Even as a baby, he was our cowboy-loving his hats and boots and bonding with animals. He was raised in Lake Eufaula, Oklahoma, where he was home schooled and attended summer camps at Royal C. Ranch. He was a member of the Lindsey Chapel Baptist Church. He had a love for music and was an accomplished guitar player and song writer. The joy of his life was his family, from his siblings, his aunts and uncles, numerous cousins, his friends; but most importantly his two childrenthey were the love of his life. Although his life was complicated, he remained strong in his faith and was recently rebaptized at Sherman Bible Church, and we rejoice in knowing that he was reunited with brother, Zachary Hodge and a host of family. Surviving him are mother, Casey (Shipp) Jacobs, father, Damian Kenyon, grandmothers Sheila Jacobs and Waynette Kenyon, Uncles Tim Kenyon and Allen Shipp, Aunts Mirra Horton and Christeen Wilson, siblings

BETTY SORRELS

Beseda on September 18, 1951 in Caldwell, TX. After the death of her birth family Betty was entered into the foster care system and was officially adopted by her parents; Rev. Bill and Sadie Beasley in 1959. Betty grew up most of her childhood in Pittsburg where she was a 1970 graduate of Pittsburg High School. After graduation she pursued her education at East Texas State University in Commerce; eventually starting a career in the medical field by earning her certification as a Paramedic, which she served as in Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado. Betty spent most of her adult life as a resident in the state of Colorado in the two cities she called home, Durango and Grand Junction. Betty loved the activities that life in Colorado could bring such as hiking, rafting, even working part time on the Grand Junction Cog Train up to Pike’s Peak. She enjoyed true crime movies which she spent many hours watching with her friend John, and her sister Stephanie. Betty was well read and loved novels. However, her most prized possessions and passion for life came from being the mother of her two “kids”, which were known to others as George, a spoiled male yorkie, and Cody a fullblooded border collie. They were treated like royalty. She never met a dog she didn’t like even from a very young age. Betty fought the battle of her life

this past year as she endured the diagnosis of advanced lung cancer. She was fierce in her determination to live independently as long as she could and enjoyed every minute of life that was left. She chose to spend her last years with family, cooking many “family dinners” particularly her famous soup or chili recipes and always helped out anyone that needed a hand or a lift in spirit. She will be missed by her family, and friends who loved her zest for life. Betty was a member of the Baptist faith and was a Christian; and was ready for the next chapter. Betty is survived by her father the Reverend Bill Beasley of Bonham Texas., a sister, Stephanie Beasley Strickland, brother-in-law Todd, and nephew Reid. She was preceded in death by her daughter Ryanne Sorrels of Cripple Creek Colorado, and her mother Sadie Beasley of Bonham. Betty’s wishes were to be cremated and her ashes taken back “home” to a special place in Colorado where a private scattering memorial will be held. The family appreciates friends and family as well as all their thoughts and prayers, but especially Transcend Hospice and the wonderful care that they took of her in the last days of her life. A special mention to Denise Owens Sanderson, and Billy Teague whose passion in the field of hospice made her last days along with her family bearable, meaningful and peaceful.

Urann who had a desire to create a different kind of honor society: one that recognized excellence in all academic disciplines. Today, the Society has chapters on more than 325 campuses in the United States and the Philippines. Its mission is “To recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others.”

Dani’s Declaration Day: Lady Hornets’ basketball standout Baccus to extend career at Hardin-Simmons Univ.

By Rich Hilliard

DODD CITY -- Senior Dani Baccus and process go together. On the basketball court, she demonstrated her dedication to it. Baccus has been described as a “floor general” and “a pass-first point guard” by head coach Alex Stephenson. Being the one to score meant little -- facilitating a successful offensive possession for the Dodd City Lady Hornets meant more. Baccus had a similar approach when it came to deciding where she would continue her basketball career. “I didn’t want to rush the process,” said Baccus, “but the moment I walked [into HardinSimmons], I felt welcome. “Everybody wanted me there,” she said. “They made me feel loved and at home ...” Baccus also cited “HardinSimmons [having] a really good program” at her signing

April 20 with the university in Abilene, held in the Dodd City High School Gymnasium, with family, teammates, coaches and other wellwishers in attendance. “She’s the best leader I’ve ever coached -- on and off the floor,” said Stephenson. “She exemplifies what we preach here. “She’s done everything the right Younger sister Rion Baccus way and been (standing) smiles as she committed to the watches older sister Dani process,” he said. agree to play women’s S t e p h e n s o n , basketball for Hardin- who has coached Simmons University on Baccus throughApril 20. out her junior Photo by Rich Hilliard high and high school career at Dodd City, foreday on saw the success she would have on the

basketball court. “I knew in junior high she would do special things,” said Stephenson. “You don’t coach too many who enjoy every aspect of the game.” Baccus’ high school basketball career concluded on March 10, as she helped Dodd City win the Class 1A State girls championship -- going undefeated and knocking off perennial champion and title-game nemesis Nazareth, 30-21, in the Lady Hornets’ fourth title-game appearance in the last five years. About her basketball career at Dodd City, Baccus -- an all-star selection, multiple times an all-state selection by two different organizations and an alldistrict superlative winner -- will remember one thing in particular: “The bond with this team this year.” “Every team [on which I’ve played here] has had a bond, but we played as one this year,” said Baccus. “Even if we argued, we knew how to fix it. “Leaving here will probably be one of the hardest things for me,” she said. “The memories will stay with me forever. “I hope to build on that at Hardin-Simmons.”
