wells on their property should look for plastic, steel, brick or concrete casing (pipe) that may extend above ground, or for a hole in the ground with no apparent bottom. Some abandoned wells have concrete or brick casing extending above ground or a windmill with missing blades. Abandoned or deteriorated well casings or pipes may be cut off at ground level, posing an additional threat. • Wells are “abandoned” when they are not in use, as defined by Texas Occupations Code, Section 1901.255. • A “deteriorated” well is a well that is causing or likely to cause pollution of any water in the state, including groundwater. Under Section 1901.255 of the Occupations Code, abandoned or deteriorated wells must be plugged or brought into compliance within 180 days of a landowner learning that they have an abandoned or deteriorated well on their property. Landowners are responsible for abandoned or deteriorated water wells on their property. If a well needs to be plugged, they may plug the well themselves (in compliance with Title 16, Texas Administrative Code, Section (76.104 Capping and Plugging Wells Standards) or hire a well driller or pump installer licensed by TDLR to plug the well or bring the well into compliance. If a landowner chooses to plug the well themselves, they are required to plug the well in accordance with TDLR’s well plugging specifications (https://www.tdlr. texas.gov/wwd/wwdspecs. htm) and submit a State of Texas Plugging Report to TDLR within 30 days from the date the well was plugged. These are pretty simple to make and taste great for a Graduation party or any get together! PIG SHOTS 10 oz. bacon, cut in half, lengthwise 12 oz. Kielbasa Sausage, sliced about 1” thick 8 oz. cream cheese, softened 1/4 c. fresh jalepenos, chopped 1 c. pepper jack or cheddar cheese, grated brown sugar toothpicks Slice your sausage and wrap your bacon around the sausage so that it resembles a shot glass. Take a toothpick and skewer at the bottom, securing the bacon and the sausage. Take softened cream cheese, cheddar, diced jalepenos

and mix together in a bowl until well combined. Fill your pig shot until it is just below the top of the bacon. Sprinkle the tops with brown sugar. Cook these at 350 degrees in your smoker or the oven until your bacon is done, about 45 minutes to an hour. Remove from oven and let them cool for a few minutes before removing toothpicks. Enjoy! Congrats to all of our seniors throughout Fannin County!

plant will be staffed 24/7/365. Baugh will supervise team members ranging from several lead operators with decades of experience to newly licensed operators in training. “We have an extremely wide range of experience on the team,” he said. “A lot of it is finding like-minded individuals who enjoy working in the plant and together.” The state awards its treatment plant licenses by level, with operators able to progress from Class D to Class A based on training and experience. Work at Leonard Water Treatment Plant will provide its newer operators with the years of hands-on experience they need for the higher licenses. Currently, Baugh’s staff is in training to learn all key regulations they will need to use on a regular basis. “The whole team needs to know those like the back of their hand before we begin,” Baugh explained. Looking Forward Once the plant is operational, Baugh’s team will review gauges, monitor the treatment processes and make adjustments as needed. They are currently taking trips to the Leonard site each week so they can get familiar with the size of the plant, track progress and learn about key facilities. Once the operations building is finished, the team will relocate on-site, and, on a personal note, Baugh (a longtime resident of the Leonard area) will enjoy a much shorter commute. Construction made considerable progress over the past year, and there is growing excitement for the handoff to Baugh’s team to operate and manage this leading-edge water treatment plant, which will help provide safe, reliable drinking water for more than two million North Texans. Baugh’s mission? “The highest quality water possible. All of our current plants meet or exceed the state requirements, and this one will do the same.” Baugh’s team is enthusiastic and ready for the opportunity to make that mission a reality.

Water Wells Continued from page 1 To avoid problems in the future, landowners should install a locking well cap or sanitary well seal – not just a cover over the well – to prevent unauthorized use or entry into the well. Septic systems should be pumped and inspected as often as recommended by the local health department. Care should be taken when mowing or working near the well. Remembering Their Sacrifice

By Bro. Bill Beasley

In Memorium Original Publish Date: May 27, 2014

Galatians 6:14 (NASB) On Monday of this week our country has had the opportunity to remember the sacrifice our fallen warriors have made while serving in the defense of our freedoms. It has been a moving obligation to observe Memorial Day. On the front page of our monthly MOPH newsletter are these words “All gave some and some gave all”. Four who have given there all were crew mem-

bers on my B24 Bomber. By position these young men were, namely, radio operator, tail gunner, pilotage navigator, and bombardier. They lost their lives while we were on a bombing mission to Karlsruhe, Germany. I salute their memory and sacrifice today. One of them, Lt Charles Davis, our bombardier was my very special friend. We were roommates in the barracks and work mates in the plane. I owe my life to him for he had pulled me away from a window by my desk just before it was shattered by shell fragments. In case of emergency it was his assignment to see that all crew members had evacuated if the order to abandon the craft was given. His body was found at the crash site with his parachute unopened. It was evident that he was too low for his chute to deploy. I lost a friend. Today I am thinking of another who gave His life so that we may enjoy the for-

given life. His name is Jesus. In Galatians 6:14 (NASB) we find Paul’s words “may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ”. The cross was an instrument of death long before it was a symbol of eternal life. Millions died by crucifixion, but the most famous death in history transformed its bloodstained wood into a gift of grace and life. As Jesus was dying on the cross He was heard to pray for our forgiveness. As He drew His last breath He said “It is finished”. We owe Him everything. His death purchased our life. May this be a memory we will never forget.

Getting Ahead Fannin County Conducts Community Assessment Press Release - Community officials and Getting Ahead investigators came together for a productive evening on May 2, assessing our community’s ability to provide a high quality life for everyone including people in or near poverty. During the sixteen week program “Getting Ahead in a Just Getting’ By World”, participants examine their own experience of inadequate resources as well as explore

issues in the community that impact success − banking, housing, jobs, transportation − providing critical information the community can use to take action to end the cycles of poverty. The Community Assessment night provides the Getting Ahead investigators a chance to learn first-hand about community resources in addition to establishing contact with community leaders who

can help them on their way. Four workgroups were assembled on Monday evening to assess the opportunities for everyone in the county. Workgroup #1 assessed Economic and Housing Conditions with Karen Grandstaff and Tami Welch from the Bonham Area Chamber of Commerce, Christi Tynan of Century 21 Harvey Properties, and Melody Michaud representing

MC TRAILERS MFG

the Open Arms Shelter and Texoma Housing Partners. The top concern identified by this group was the dire need for affordable housing in our area. They also learned of the great demand for additional volunteers at the Open Arms Shelter. Workgroup #2 discussed Protection from Predators, and Financial/Banking Conditions with Chief of Police Mike Bankston, Bryan Peeler of Fannin Bank, Dillon Weeks and Wendi Lindsey of Fannin Federal Credit Union and District Attorney Richard Glaser. Investigators received valuable information regarding business loans and submitting effective job applications. Workgroup #3 delved into Health Conditions and Public Sector Conditions with County Judge Randy Moore, Patricia McBean of TMC Bonham,

Bobbie McDonald of TCOG, Fannin County Indigent Health Coordinator Mark DeMay and Lindsey Prince, Licensed Professional Counselor. Access to affordable healthcare was addressed, and Mark DeMay was able to provide many resources. The investigators suggested some real solutions to include beginning a community garden and encouraging local churches to offer a Mother’s Day Out program. Traci Daniel, Assistant Superintendent for Bonham ISD and Marlene Phillips, Director for Advising and Outreach for Grayson County College helped Workgroup #4 assess Education Conditions along with Jobs, Wages and Wealth. Investigators were pleased to learn that BISD is expanding their vocational programs, and Grayson

County College offers several free training opportunities for jobs in high demand. Major concerns included limited availability of childcare services for working parents and the need for convenient, affordable transportation services. Getting Ahead Fannin County is grateful to the community officials who took the time to participate in this event. The current Getting Ahead investigators will graduate on Saturday, May 21 at 2 pm in the Williams Building at First Presbyterian Church in Bonham. The public is invited to attend. Plans are underway for the fall class which begins in midAugust. For more information, visit https://www.facebook. com/GettingAheadFanninCo or call 903-213-3750.

NATHANIEL LUKE WARREN

It is with extreme sadness that our family announces the unexpected passing of our sweet, witty, sometimes goofy, Nathaniel Luke Warren aka Nathan, Nate, Bubba, on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at his residence in Commerce, Texas at the young age of 28. Nathan was welcomed into the loving arms of his parents Richard and Melissa Warren on Monday, October 11, 1993, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In true Nate fashion, he was a few weeks late. Even before birth, he kept us on our toes. From day one, Nathan could not be still. Walking at the age of 9 months, jumping off the top of couches and shopping buggies at the age of 1, he went on to become a talented multi-sport athlete at both Melissa High School and Honey Grove High School where he graduated in 2012. Nathan had always loved nature and in his adult years, became an expert on trees and bass fishing. A true lover of all things social media, I know we will be able to enjoy his many posts, and videos until we meet again one day. Nathan had a fierce love for his loved ones and friends. His circle was wide, and he called them all family. He was loyal to a fault and loved following in the footsteps of his Dad and Papa by serving his country honorably in the Texas Army National Guard. Even with his many struggles, he found ways to connect with others. He had a kind, sensitive, creative, poetic soul and we have been deeply moved by the messages of how he touched the lives of so many during his short life. Family visitation was held at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home, in Honey Grove, Texas on Monday, May 16, 2022, from 6-8 pm. His funeral services at First Baptist in Honey Grove were held Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at 1:00pm. Graveside services were held immediately following the service at Duplex Cemetery in Duplex, Texas where he can rest near his father, Richard Warren, awaiting the return of our Savior. First BaptistHoney Grove was where he asked our Heavenly Father to be his Lord and Savior and professed his faith by baptism. Nathan is survived by his mother and stepdad, Melissa and James Caldwell, and his stepmom, Misty Warren. He is survived by his sister, Caitigirl, Caitlin Warren and fiancé Montana Mannheimer, his brother, Ben Caldwell and fiancée Brittany Cochran, and sisters and brother in laws, Ashley and Dean Womble and Rebeka and Greg Beavers. He is also survived by his grandparents, Mareta and B.E. Gross along with his beloved nieces and nephews, Levi Beavers, Rylee Caldwell, Macy Beavers, Carson Womble, Connor Belvins, Ryder Evans, and Briar Grace Womble. He is also survived by his aunt and uncle April and Mike Bigby and many cousins. He was met along with our Savior, by his father, Richard Warren, his grandparents, Harold and Mary Griffith, Carol and Keith Sager, Papa Joe Hooser, his Aunt Gran, Diann Cockrell, and his Auntie Carolyn Sue Stegall who I am sure fought to be the first to welcome him in Heaven. “We see those we love in every sunrise and in every sunset, in every tree and in every flower.”-unknown

CURTIS CLIFFORD ADAMS, SR.

Curtis was born June 21, 1924 to Homer and Emma Adams in Forest Hill, Texas. He went to be with the Lord on May 13, 2022 surrounded by loved ones at his home in Forest Hill. He married Karon Robinson on January 31, 1948 and they had 43 wonderful years. Surviving are daughter Rebecca Green and husband Danny, son Curtis Adams, Jr. and wife Shelley, daughter Brenda Eudy and husband Justin along with four special nieces Iretta Brimmage, Kathy Mills, Pat Donley, Irene Janes, nephew George Adams and cousin Ruth King. They have four grandsons Clay Green, Clint Adams, Aaron Green, Joel Eudy and one granddaughter Shelby Eudy and numerous great grandchildren. He graduated Honey Grove High School on May 5, 1942. His beloved mother passed on away June 1, 1942. He then volunteered into the United States Navy for WWII. Following the war he remained in the Navy for 22 years. Upon retiring from the Navy he returned home to his family farm which has been in his family since 1868 and raised cattle. He then began an 18 year career as a welding instructor at Paris Junior College. This was a perfect fit for him as he loved working with young men and helping them learn a trade just as he had done in the Navy. His roots to the community run deep and he was the caretaker of Forest Hill Cemetery for 46 years. Curtis was preceded in death by his parents Homer and Emma Adams, very special grandmother Melissa Zimrude Adams, sister Margie Brimmage , his first wife Karon Adams and brother Scottie Adams. He married Glenda Dellinger on May 18, 1995 and enjoyed a loving and happy relationship of 27 years, especially traveling to Westernswing music events. His love of music meant that songs like “There’s a Star-Spangled Banner Flying Somewhere”, “My Life’s Been a Pleasure”, “Walking on the Fighting Side of Me”, and other patriotic tunes either fired him up or brought a tear to his eye. Pulling a heavenly Hank Snow and “Moving On”, Curtis was prepared to meet his Lord and Savior and reunite with those that have gone before him. Family visitation was held on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, prior to the service starting at 1:00 pm followed by funeral services at 2:00 pm at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel in Honey Grove, TX. Burial followed at Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Forest Hill Cemetery would be appreciated.

Sunday Morning Re-take

Hello everyone! We had a wonderful service in God’s house Sunday morning! Thank you to our visitors for coming! Hebrews 11:1 tells us, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” The problem in our nation today is that we have lost our faith in God, and our dependence upon Him. We must have faith in Him in order to be an overcomer. Sure, we will face hardships in life, but just like Jesus said to His disciples in John 16:33, we are to be of good cheer, for He has overcome the world. This is one of my favorite passages in the Bible to use as an encouragement to others. In my research, I came across this classic hymn written by William H. Bathurst in 1831. As it is a hymn of faith, I hope and pray that this is your testimony.

“O, for a faith that will not shrink, Though pressed by every foe, That will not tremble on the brink. Of any earthly woe! A faith that shines more bright and clear When tempests rage without, That when in danger knows no fear, In darkness feels no doubt. Lord, give us such a faith as this, And then, whate’er may come, We’ll taste, e’en here, the hallowed bliss Of an eternal home.” If you are looking for a good church home, we invite you to come visit and worship with us here at Central Baptist Church! Like we always say, visitors are our honored guests, and we hope to see you this coming Lord’s day! Josh Stevenson Central Baptist Church Bonham, TX https://www.facebook.com/ cbcfannin

The last several seasons, basketball has extended even deeper into February, as Ector has qualified for eight-consecutive boys’ postseasons. Two years ago, basketball season extended into the

He took on the role of baseball manager this season. “We have a bunch of guys playing baseball and having fun,” said Adams. “I have told the guys to enjoy the moment.”

Bonham junior Alli Kirkpatrick has verbally committed to continue her volleyball career at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. Kirkpatrick, who in 2021 received one of only 50 All-State selections in Class 3A by the Texas Girls Coaches Association, collected 566 kills and 347 digs last season. She also in 2021 earned the top hitter award in 11-3A, after sharing the same superlative honor in the same district grouping the previous year. Each season, the Lady Warriors advanced to a play-in for the fourth and final 11-3A berth in the postseason. As a freshman, Kirkpatrick garnered the top newcomer award in 10-3A, as Bonham finished as the runner-up -- its best district finish since 2014 -- to Van Alstyne, the 2019 3A State finalist, en route to its first regional quarterfinals trip in 11-years. Catcher Carter Whitburn equates another of those talented juniors for whom the advance also equals a chance to continue a family legacy of postseason diamond success at Fannin County high schools. His sister, Destiny Whitburn, as a pitcher and hitter, led the Lady Eagles to the Class 1A State softball championship game in 2018 and to the softball regional semifinals in 2017 and 2019. (She has since extended her career in the sport at Paris Junior College and now Texas A&M-Commerce.) In 2000 and 2001, Chris Whitburn, their dad, likewise helped neighboring Savoy reach the 1A baseball regional finals. “I just want to live up to and follow in the footsteps of my dad and sister,” said Whitburn. On May 16, the Eagles began preparations for play in the Region II-1A semifinal round on Friday, May 20, against Dodd City at Sherman High School. Wins over Campbell, 13-3, in the bi-district round and Perrin-Whitt, 13-9, in the regional quarterfinals preceded the advance by Ector which qualified for the playoffs as District 11-2A’s No. 1 seed to the 1A postseason. “It’s just a big deal for me,” said Emory Cooper, the lone senior on the postseason roster. “Baseball is my main sport. “We have always been a basketball school,” said Cooper, who hopes to extend his baseball days beyond high school as a college walk-on. “It’s kind of crazy to think about. “We have lots of talent besides me -- lots of juniors and sophomores.”

In the 1A boys’ 100m dash, Fannindel senior Contreal Judkins on May 14 placed sixth in 11.27 seconds and Dodd City senior Mason Rodriguez took seventh in 11.31.
