Press Release - On Saturday May 21 Getting Ahead Fannin County celebrated the graduation of their fifth and largest class with approximately eighty family members, friends and community supporters in atten-
dance to cheer the graduates on. Thirteen participants, known as investigators, completed an eyeopening 16 week workshop for people who lack resources and were recognized for their accomplishments during the cer-
emony. The 2022 Getting Ahead graduates began their work in February with Patty Kreider facilitating their study “Getting Ahead in a Just Getting’ By World”, assisted by co-facilitator Sonya El-

her personal journey from generational poverty and drug abuse to sobriety and financial stability. Elmore explained how the Getting Ahead program helped her recognize her own potential and advance to a better paying job, which in turn allowed her to purchase a vehicle and be well on her way to the life she has always dreamed of. Her story was inspiring to all in attendance. Tania Pena, graduate from the fall 2022 class, shared how she experienced several “aha!” moments during her participation in Getting Ahead which resulted in a better life for her family. As she passed the torch to the new graduates, Pena encouraged the investigators to put what they learned into practice. She quoted from Admiral William H. McRaven’s famous commencement speech “… if you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.” Kreider and Elmore then awarded each investigator a certificate and a yellow rose. District Judge Laurie Blake offered words of congratulations and encouragement to the graduates. Blake presented each investigator with an engraved bois d’arc pen custom-made by David Keene. Graduate Deborah Spindle expressed her thanks to the facilitators and said “The Getting Ahead program has changed the course of my life. When I started, I knew very few people in my community. I felt lost and unsure of how to start moving my life forward. The people I have met and the lessons I have learned have sparked a fire in me. I feel empowered to change, with a community to help guide me, and a hope for my future.” Continued

Hello everyone! The apostle Paul wrote to Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:17-18, “Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” We serve a great and mighty God, who is able to deliver us from the evils that we face in life. We must put our faith and our trust in Him. As I have said before, the problem with our nation’s trust in Him has fallen away, and America has forgotten the Godly foundation that it was built upon. That being said, I am reminded of this classic hymn written by William Augustine Ogden in 1887. “Tis the grandest theme through the ages rung; ’Tis the grandest theme for a mortal tongue; ’Tis the grandest theme that the world e’er sung, “Our God is able to deliver thee.” He is able to deliver thee, He is able to deliver thee; Tho’ by sin oppressed, Go to Him for rest; “Our God is able to deliver thee.” If you are looking for a good church home, we invite you to come visit and worship with us here at Central Baptist Church! Like we always say, visitors are our honored guests, and we hope to see you this coming Lord’s day! Bro. Josh Stevenson Central Baptist Church Bonham, TX https://www.facebook.com/ cbcfannin

From My Life to Yours:
Enjoying a Family Welcome
By Bro. Bill Beasley
In Memorium Original Publish Date: June 17, 2014
Joshua 24:15
Within a week, after my return to the USA, I was enjoying the welcome of family and friends both in Texas and Mississippi. It was a nice, safe feeling to be at home at last. As an added pleasure I was getting to share Father’s Day with my dad, my stepmom and my little sister and brother. As icing on the cake, I was granted a 90 day leave to recover from the wounds of war. Enjoying my father’s new house was a warm, welcoming experience. Putting

my feet under my mom’s table and eating my sufficiency of her home cooking began to put flesh back on my bones. The three month leave provided me time for physical recovery. It also gave me an opportunity to reevaluate the importance of the home, a time to find myself, an opportunity to think about the future, and to see my life again as a work of God in progress. With the observance of Father’s Day, I began to see my dad as the spiritual leader in his home as well as in his church. I saw in my dad a likeness to Joshua in the Old Testament who said “choose whom you will serve but as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15) That which I have written took place in 1945. But here in 2014, we are in the midst of a Father’s Day observance. My father was called home in 1985. But the example he set before me lives on. And so does the role that we have from God today lives on. As a father let me chal-

lenge fathers who may be reading this let’s accept our responsibility to be the spiritual leader in our home. Let’s point our family to God in both word and deed. It is my hope that each of us as an earthly father so live before our family that they may have thoughts of our Heavenly Father. May God bless you, Dads. God loves you, and I do too.

Romans 12:18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Romans 12:18 recognizes that while we can’t control everything, we should try our best to seek peace. For instance, you can’t control someone else’s anger or vitriol, but you can control yourself. By controlling our words, our actions, and our conduct, we can encourage peace rather than discord. For example, as believers, we should purposely avoid provoking strife or fighting. Include and make time for GOD this Sunday at 11:00.

By Rose Schwartz
Tuesday, June 7, 2022, County Judge Randy Moore called to order at 8:50 a.m. a Special Meeting of the Fannin County Commissioners Court. There was a distinct sense of quiet excitement on this the first morning of the Commissioners Court being held in the 2nd floor courtroom of the restored Fannin County Courthouse. Pledges were led by Fannin County Emergency Coordinator Troy Hudson. 4. He then went on to recognize Former County Judge Butch Henderson and current Mayor of Honey Grove Claude, Caffee. After introductions, Judge Moore invited all attendees to today’s court to come to the front of the courtroom for a commemorating photo. 5. Public Forum: Mayor Caffee spoke to note that this being the fourth week of cleanup from the severe weather that ripped through sections of northeast Fannin County in May, he wanted to publicly thank the many who stepped up to help Honey Grove and other areas affected by that storm. As Fannin County residents, you may have or will be approached to lease your land for a wind turbine. Some who have already leased are going to get $10,000 a year for 25 years. Is this a viable option for you? Start by doing your own math. Take the lease of a turbine for $10,000. Though it is a yearly payment., look at it differently. Divide that amount by 12. You will get about $833 a month. Take away your tax rate percent-

age ( I am using 30%). At 30% your monthly increase in income is $584 a month. In addition, your property may very well lose value. Would you buy property that had a 800 foot turbine on it? Next, google Warner Group Properties. They have several listings that are for sale and/ or sold. One such listing of 37 acres listed for $5,580,000 and sold. Another parcel of 20 acres was listed as $4,600,000 and sold. There are several more with like numbers listed. If you don’t want to google it yourself, check with a realtor and ask
for acreage listings near the lake. If you are approached by a wind farm entity, you may be very likely between Bois ‘dArc Lake and Ralph Hall Lake. What would bring you more money? To sell all or part of your property for possibly much more than you ever dreamed, or lease for $10,000 a year with no cost of living raise? For more facts about leasing property for wind turbines, go to Facebook and ask to join Stop Fannin-Lamar Wind Project. Patsi Tindel

Spiritual Thinking
By Mike Dickison (minister of the Ivanhoe church Christ)
of
We are challenged by the apostle Paul to think spiritually. We are to think about spiritual matters. We must train our thinking to be in accordance with God’s word. We must acknowledge that the Bible is the word of God. Paul writes, “If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord” (1 Corinthians 14:37). We must have humility to think spiritually. We must not think too much of ourselves, “if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself” (Galatians 6:3). The church at Rome received this message, “to every man that is among you, not to think [of himself] more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith” (Romans 12:3). We must consider our
spiritual family in our thinking. Paul writes, “Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace” (Philippians 1:7). We are given a list of things to think about to keep us on the spiritual path, but are also told to do them. Paul encourages us in saying, “whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you” (Philippians 4:8-9). When it comes to thinking spiritually, we must; acknowledge God’s word, have humility, consider out spiritual family, and follow the list that Paul provides.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Director Tanya N. Garfield of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Disaster Field Operations Center-West today reminded small nonfarm businesses in 36 Texas counties of the July 5, 2022, deadline to apply for an SBA federal disaster loan for economic injury. These low-interest loans are to offset economic losses because of reduced revenues caused by excessive moisture in the following primary counties that occurred Jan. 1 – July 31, 2021. Primary counties: Calhoun, Colorado, Delta, Falls, Floyd, Hopkins and Victoria; Neighboring counties: Aransas, Austin, Bell, Briscoe, Crosby, Dewitt, Dickens, Fannin, Fayette, Franklin, Goliad, Hale, Hunt, Jackson, Lamar, Lavaca,
Limestone, Lubbock, Matagorda, McLennan, Milam, Motley, Rains, Red River, Refugio, Robertson, Swisher, Wharton and Wood. According to Garfield, small nonfarm businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture and most private nonprofit organizations of any size may apply for Economic Injury Disaster Loans of up to $2 million to help meet working capital needs caused by the disaster. “Economic Injury Disaster Loans may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable and other bills that cannot be paid because of the disaster’s impact,” said Garfield. “SBA eligibility covers both the economic impacts on businesses dependent on farmers
and ranchers that have suffered agricultural production losses caused by the disaster and businesses directly impacted by the disaster. Economic injury assistance is available regardless of whether the applicant suffered any property damage,” Garfield added. The interest rate is 3 percent for businesses and 2 percent for private nonprofit organizations with terms up to 30 years. Loan amounts and terms are set by SBA and are based on each applicant’s financial condition. By law, SBA makes Economic Injury Disaster Loans available when the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture designates an agricultural disaster. The Secretary declared this disaster on Nov. 2, 2021. Businesses primarily engaged in farming or ranching are not

Getting Ahead Continued from page 1 “I learned it is okay to ask for help when I need it, and not to be so fearful of feeling judged by others.” said Graduate Shasta RomeroVan. Graduate Philip Bullington stated “Getting Ahead has shown me that I can learn about Bonham. But mostly that I can grow even though I am disabled. The classes opened my eyes about the area—people and their needs, how I might be able to help, that my opinion counts.” “Even though all seems lost, as long as you persevere there is always hope of a bright tomorrow.” shared Graduate Trysta Lappin. A reception followed the

The Getting Ahead program is for people who are living in poverty or unstable situations. It’s about building economic stability for themselves and a better future for their communities. The idea of “getting ahead” means action and movement – getting ahead of where they are now,
toward a future that they really want. The program is sponsored by District Attorney Richard Glaser, the Fannin County Ministerial Alliance and Texoma Regional Foundation. The Getting Ahead Steering Committee is very grateful for the support provided by local businesses and churches. Getting Ahead Fannin County is currently accepting applications for their 2022 fall session, scheduled to begin in mid-August at the Bailey Inglish Early Childhood Center. First Bass Delivered for Lake Ralph Hall
The first fish stocking at Lake Ralph Hall. Courtesy Photo Press Release - Late last month, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) officials introduced young adult bass to a pond within the footprint of the future Lake Ralph Hall. “We’re stocking approximately 400 fish, and they’re probably around 10-12 inches long already,” said TPWD Fisheries Biologist Dan Bennett, onsite to help with the delivery process. “These fish are about one pound or so and a few years old already. We’re stocking these in this nursery pond so they can grow before the lake fills.” The fish are part of the Toyota Sharelunker Program—particularly large fish caught by anglers in Texas and bred with Florida male bass to produce a special breed of “Lone Star Bass.” The fish are being introduced now so they will be mature by the time the lake starts filling in 2025 to establish a thriving population of large bass for anglers visiting the reservoir. While this is the first fish stocking at the lake, it won’t be the last. “This will likely be the only stocking at this pond specifically, but we may try to seek out some additional nursery ponds to introduce bass,” Bennett shared. “Once the lake starts to fill, we will introduce more fish then as well.” In addition to stocking the future lake area, Upper Trinity Regional Water District and TPWD will also be creating permanent habitat, such as large brush piles and artificial reefs, for the future fish to thrive in the new lake. “We’re working to create fish habitat that wouldn’t otherwise be there in open pastures and fields,” explained Bennet. “Ultimately, we hope it will provide anglers with the opportunity to target fish in some of these locations and increase their success when fishing the reservoir.”

Game Warden Field Notes 10/5/21
Kids Say the Darndest Things A Polk County game warden received a call from county dispatch regarding a father and his 9-year-old son who had gotten stuck in their buggy deep in a deer lease. They attempted to walk back to their camp and got lost in the process. County dispatch was able to ping their location within a three-mile radius. Once in the area, the warden was able to follow the tracks to the father and son. Dad commented to the son, “Yeah, might be bad luck being the second time we’ve been stuck together,” as the son responds, “but each time, dad, you were driving.” The warden responded, “you’re a smart kid,” and presented him with a Texas Game Warden badge. Cue the Mutombo Finger Wag Two Jefferson County game wardens were patrolling Taylor’s Bayou when they saw a man in a shallow-drive mud boat quickly approaching them in the narrow bayou.
The wardens motioned for the subject to slow down and he shook his finger at them. The wardens were able to position their patrol boat beside the subject and get his full attention, forcing him to come to a stop. The subject claimed he didn’t understand they asked him to stop. After checking his safety equipment, the wardens initiated an investigation after noticing signs of intoxication. The warden placed the subject under arrest for Boating While Intoxicated (BWI) and booked him into the Jefferson County Jail. The subject consented to a voluntary blood draw. Case is pending. He’s a Rescue Texas Game Wardens and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Agents inspected some antique resale stores. These locations had alligator skulls, black bear mounts, waterfowl mounts, raptor mounts and migratory bird mounts for sale. During the inspection of one store, an individual entered

HOWE -- Trenton alumna Ashley Anderson will now head Class 3A Howe’s girls’ basketball program -- and volleyball -during the 2022-23 school year. “God opens doors even when you don’t expect it Where He guides my feet will follow,” said Anderson in posts on social media on June 3. “[I’m] excited for this season and what the Lady Bulldogs can accomplish as a program! “I get the blessing to lead both volleyball and basketball,” she said, “with great coaches and great young women! “Let’s Go!” Her social media posts appeared after Howe athletic director Lance Bryan on Twitter on the same day announced the additional head coaching duty for Anderson. He noted she has 90-plus wins as a head volleyball coach. Bryan had previously promoted Anderson to head girls’ basketball coach in April, after Derek Lands, the longtime

She assisted Lands with basketball and Erin Lopez with volleyball during the 2021-22 school year: her first at Howe. In volleyball and basketball, Howe will continue competing for the next two seasons in 11-3A with Bells, Blue Ridge, Bonham, Gunter Leonard and Pottsboro -losing Whitewright as a district opponent via the 2022 University Interscholastic League biennial realignment in February.
Anderson last served as a head coach for both sports at 2A Trenton during the 2020-21 school year. Two years ago, she coached the Lady Tigers, as 16-2A volleyball’s No. 4 seed to the 2A playoffs, to their then sixthstraight postseason: a fivegame bi-district loss to firstplace-seed Rio Vista, 19-25, 25-20, 19-25, 25-16, 18-16. Anderson also coached Trenton to a bi-district volleyball trip in 2019, after qualifying as 12-2A’s No. 3 seed to the 2A playoffs.

Previously, she also served as head coach for volleyball and girls’basketball at 1A Dodd City. Dodd City under Anderson made two-straight area-round postseason volleyball appearances -- 2012 and 2013 -- the first consecutive ones in the sport at the time for the Lady Hornets since 2005-07. The latter advance under Anderson included the program’s first volleyball postseason victory then in six years, after winning Dodd City’s first district title then in five years in

2012 as she resumed the role of head coach of the sport there. Anderson coached Dodd City to three-straight area-round trips -- 2011, 2012 and 2013 -in basketball. The last advance came via a district title -- the Lady Hornets’ first in girls’ basketball at the time since 2004 -en route to a 24-6 overall record. Her return to Trenton in 2019 followed a second coaching stint at 2A Celeste -- this time as the Lady Blue Devils’ head girls’ basketball coach. She guided Celeste earlier
in 2019 to the Region II-2A quarterfinals -- only stopped by defending State champion Martin’s Mill en route to its fifth-consecutive title. Anderson garnered the 13-2A coaching superlative in 2019 after the Lady Blue Devils overcame midpoint-leader Honey Grove to win the district title. That followed leading 2A Lindsay in 2018 as head coach to an area-round advance in girls’ basketball. After overcoming cancer, Anderson returned to high school coaching in 2015, serving as a varsity girls’ basketball assistant and overseeing the junior high girls for two years at Celeste. Anderson started her coaching career at Trenton in 2008, assisting with girls’ basketball and softball.

Press Release - At the June monthly meeting for the Fannin County Republican Women, the Fannin County Republican Party announced their two Patriot Scholarship Recipients. This year the application process included a required essay of 300 words or more. The essay sub-
ject was, “How Can I Be a Good American.” The applicants must have resided in Fannin County for the last 12 months or have attended a Fannin County school consistently for the last 12 months. This year our two recipients are Preston Morris from Honey Grove High School and Lukas Wilson from Dodd City High School. Preston Morris is the son of Charles and Mandy Jones of Honey Grove. Preston presented in his essay that the freedom of expression is an important part of providing an avenue for individuals to stand up for what is just and right. He pointed out that this freedom is not common in most other countries. Preston received many awards participating in the school marching band and as well as with photography. Through the Beta Club, he has provided numerous hours of community service and volunteer work. Preston has spent a lot of his time in high school as the Technology Assistant. He
seeks a degree with a computer information systems major with a minor in cypersecurity at Paris Junior College. Lukas Wilson is the son of Clint Wilson and Stacy Reed of Bonham. He started his essay indicating that the great thing about being an American includes the many freedoms we have been given. Lukas stated that volunteering and serving others is an important part of being a good American. He stressed that voting is an important right and responsibility and stated that as soon as he turned eighteen, he registered to vote and had just recently voted. Lukas has spent his time in high school participating in basketball, baseball, golf, robotics and FFA. Lukas will be attending Tyler Junior college and is planning on majoring in surveying and geomatics.
