The Fannin County Leader deadline is Thursday at 3:00pm!
This recipe is sweet and spicy and is reminiscent of your favorite Chinese takeout dishes, but made so much better, right at home.
FIRECRACKER CHICKEN
½ c. Frank's Red Hot sauce (or something similar)
¾ c. packed dark brown sugar
2 tsp garlic powder
1 Tbsp. soy sauce
3 tsp. rice wine vinegar (you can sub apple cider vinegar)
6 boneless, skinless chicken thighs salt and pepper, as needed
1 c. corn starch
olive oil or another neutralflavored cooking oil, chopped
scallions, for serving cooked rice
Preheat your oven to 400°. In a medium saucepan set over medium heat, combine the Red Hot, brown sugar, garlic powder, so sauce, vinegar, and
2 Tbsp. water. Cook gently, stirring frequently, until the sugar has dissolved. Set aside
for now. Meanwhile, season your chicken thighs with salt and pepper all over. Dredge/ coat the chicken on all sides with corn starch, getting them nice and covered. Set a large (large enough to contain all of the chicken), deep-sided skillet over high to med-high heat and add enough oil to cover the entire bottom surface. Cook your chicken on all sides until brown and crispy; about 3 to 5 minutes per side. Once the chicken has cooked and browned nicely, turn off the heat and pour the sauce all over the meat using a spoon to help coat everything, if needed. Place the pan in the oven and cook, uncovered, for about 5 to 8 minutes, just to crisp up the chicken and to help the sauce marry with the meat. it's magical, honestly. Sprinkle with some sliced scallions and serve with hot cooked rice, if desired.
This Firecracker Chicken seems to be fitting with the July 4th holiday! Everyone have fun and be safe!
ENJOY!!!

BEDCO Board Meeting – Addressing Rumors & Speculations
By Rose Schwartz
Monday, June 19, 2023, Bedco’s President Alan McDonald called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. after noting Quorum established with all Board Members present. Board Member Lee Ellis led an Invocation with a short version of “The Serenity Prayer.”
2. Consideration and possible action to approve the Minutes of the Regular Meeting held on May 15th, 2023: A motion to approve was made by Board Member Allen Sanderson, seconded by Lee Ellis and passed.
3. Consideration & possible action acknowledging the monthly financial reports for May 2023: Bonham’s Director of Administrative Services, Sarah Osburn, gave a report of a continuance of around 7% increase in incoming sales tax. She noted interest rates are good at this time and touched on the partnership of Bedco with the City of Bonham in obtaining a subscription to “Zach Tax” which she explained will assist with confidential information (that will not be able to be shared with the public) on sales tax by payor and by location. A motion to accept the report was made by Board Member Wayne Moore, seconded by Board Member Ernie

Quintana and passed unanimously.
4. Citizens Opportunity to Speak: [The Board of Directors of the Bonham Economic Development Corporation invites persons with comments or observations to briefly address the Board for the limited purpose of determining whether the matter should be referred to staff for study and response and/or be placed on a future meeting agenda. Local practice limits comments to three (3) minutes or less. State law prohibits the Board of Directors from considering deliberations on any item not listed on the posted Board of Directors Agenda.]: There were no speakers.
5. Consideration & possible action regarding a Contractual Services Agreement between the City of Bonham and BEDCO (attached.): Mr. McDonald explained how this was basically documentation that should have been entered into city records last May when Gayle Cooper was hired. It was noted that Ms. Cooper works for the city but is paid with Bedco funds. A motion to sign and accept the agreement was made by Bedco’s Vice President Kelly Royse, seconded by Board Member Allen Sanderson and passed unanimously.
6. Consideration & possible action regarding the addition of Administrative Services Director, Sarah Osburn, to our list of signatories for all accounts: A motion to approve was made by Ernie Quintana, seconded by Lee Ellis and passed unanimously.
7. Executive Director’s Report: Bedco’s Executive Director Gayle Cooper began her report by addressing rumors circulating regarding possible businesses that will be located at the lots on Hwy. 121. Without confirming specific business names, she noted there is currently one tenant and a “potential” other tenant whose names she is not at liberty to disclose at this time. Regarding the downtown grants she spoke of an increased interest in the grants and relayed her delight in the continued improvements being made to the appearance of downtown Bonham. She noted to date there has been $131,000 paid through the grant program and there is currently $135,700 requested by others. A question arose by a board member regarding requirements placed on grant recipients for length of time in business. Ms. Cooper responded that that issue would be covered in Executive Session as there is a “caveat”
in the grant application that an applicant must be in business for a certain amount of time. She closed by advising the board she would be attending the Texas Economic Development Conference being held this week in Allen and reminding them of the joint City Council and Board meeting being held June 26th at 5:30 p.m. where a presentation will be made on the downtown work that has been done.
8. Adjourn to Executive Session in accordance with TX 551.074 personnel and 551.087 economic development negotiations: A motion to enter Executive Session at 5:40 p.m. was made, seconded and passed.
9. Return to regular session; consideration and possible action resulting from Executive Session: Regular Session resumed at 6:20 p.m. after which Mr. McDonald noted there would be no action taken on two items discussed during executive session and asked for a motion on the third item. Kelly Royse then made the motion to give Ms. Cooper a raise as discussed in the executive session. Ernie Quintana seconded the motion which passed unanimously.
10. Adjourn: Meeting adjourned at 6:23 p.m.

NOTICE OF A PUBLIC MEETING
Notice is hereby given that a meeting of Trenton City Council will be held on July 12, 2023, 7:00 p.m. at Trenton City Hall for the purpose of considering and taking action on all matters on the agenda for the meeting, including approval of an agreement with the law firm of Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP as special counsel to perform all legal services necessary to collect delinquent property taxes and authorizing the execution of such agreement.
The agreement to be considered is necessary for the delinquent taxes owed to the City of Trenton to be collected in the most effective manner. The City desires that such delinquent tax, penalties and interest be collected as provided in the Texas Tax Code.
The Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP firm is fully qualified to provide this representation, being the largest delinquent tax collection law firm in the State of Texas, as well as the United States and having been engaged in this specialized legal service for more than 40 years. In addition, the Linebarger Goggan Blair and Sampson, LLP firm possesses infrastructure and technology, such as call center technology, that the City does not currently possess.
Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP has represented the City for the past 28 years with competence and professionalism, in the collection of delinquent property taxes, beginning on August 27, 1994.
The specialized legal services required by this agreement cannot be adequately performed by the attorneys and supporting personnel of the City due to the high cost of implementing the appropriate infrastructure and technology and employing sufficient in- house attorneys and staff with the level of experience and competence necessary to perform these activities.
Linebarger will be compensated on a contingent fee basis as provided in the Texas Tax Code Sections 6.30, 33.07, 33.08, 33.11, and 33.48. These Texas Tax Code sections specifically provide for an additional penalty on delinquent taxes to compensate collection attorneys. A contract to pay inside or outside attorneys on an hourly basis would represent an additional cost to the City.
Entering into the proposed agreement is in the best interests of the residents of the City because the delinquent taxes will be professionally and competently collected without the additional costs to the City of implementing infrastructure and technology, and employing in-house personnel or paying outside counsel on an hourly fee basis which would otherwise be required.

[The 16th in a series of articles for the 175 Anniversary of Bonham]
What is the history of Bonham’s airport, Jones Field?
It got its start because of one man, Bonham native Charles Jones.
Charlie Jones left Bonham after high school and ended up in California as President of Richfield Oil Corporation. The story goes that he wanted
In 1929 the Bonham City Council voted to buy 131 acres north of town to be developed as an airport.
Jones Field in Bonham was opened on November 11, 1929. Soon planes were flying passengers, freight and mail between Bonham and Dallas. But as World War II began
Jones Field became one of 17 civilian flight schools in Texas, and the first Army and civilian personnel arrived July 31, 1941. Sam Rayburn spoke at the dedication which was attended by a crowd estimated at 2,000. The Bonham High School Band played. The original Jones Field was 131 acres, but Bonham voted additional bonds to bring the facility to 315 acres. At the time of dedication two hangers would accommodate 35 planes each.
Three barracks housed 80 men each with additional facilities such as a hospital, mess hall and recreational buildings.
In addition to Jones Field, there was Kueckelhan Field, a primary field with a small cafe for instructors and two hangars; this was where most pilots received their first 45 hours of flight training before transferring to Jones Field for the second half of primary training. Trainees and their instructors could also shoot touch-and-goes at three more auxiliary airstrips -- Craven Field (just south of Red River), Brown Field near Ravenna and Hrdlicka Field approxi-
Bonham was a boomtown as thousands of young aviators went through training and then spent their free time in local hot spots such as the soda fountain at Saunders Drug Store. Boyd, Evans and Graham streets were built to house ground school instructors, flight instructors and mechanics.
The airplane used for training at Jones Field was a Fairchild PT-19. From 1941 until Jones Field closed in 1944, approximately 5,000 pilots were trained at Jones Field on the PT-19. The plane was built specifically for training new pilots. The frame was built of metal piping and carried a Ranger 6-cylinder, inverted engine. The aluminum materials used for the body and wings weren’t top quality because the plane was used as a trainer and had a short life expectancy.
The cadets who successfully completed primary pilot training at Jones Field were destined to enter fighter pilot training -- often flying PT-13s at nearby Perrin Field -- or bomber school at Enid, Oklahoma or San Antonio, Texas.
The final flight of a military student-pilot at Jones Field was in October 1944 and the process was initiated to return the airstrip to civilian control.
Over the years former Jones Field instructors returned to Bonham for reunions. A proposal was made to locate a Fairchild PT-19 to restore for permanent display at the Fannin County Museum of History. Contributions for this effort were made by many local businesses and organizations, and a large room at the Museum which was then undeveloped was refurbished to resemble the interior of a hanger from Jones Field.
Local businesses helped with construction and electrical and lighting upgrades.
A plane was found in want ads, and the owner finally donated the plane to the reunion group. It was in parts and pieces, so restoration took nearly two years. As the plane was to be kept in the Museum, the plane wasn’t restored to flying condition, but serves as an impressive reminder of what the Jones Field students and instructors had to work with.

FREE robotics camp at Grayson College for middle schoolers
Denison, Texas - Thanks to a grant from the Bosch Community Fund, the Grayson College Center for Workplace Learning (CWL) will offer a FREE robotics camp to area middle schoolers from July 17 through July 21.
The camp dubbed, RoboTex, is a foundational STEM-based robotics camp. Middle-school-age attendees will build robots with the VEX-IQ system and participate in competitions. On the final day of camp, participants will get hands-on experience utilizing STEM-aligned equipment in Grayson College’s Industrial Technology Labs. Friday afternoon will feature a major robotics competition allowing spectators. Residents of Fannin and Grayson county who are entering sixth grade through exiting eighth grade are encouraged to apply by visiting grayson.edu/cwl/ courses/roboticscamp.html. Placement is expected to be competitive since there are just 20 spots available. The application consists of a short biographical data questionnaire and an eight-sentence essay explaining why the applicant would like to attend this camp.
Deadline to apply is Friday, June 23.
“Grants like this one from Bosch allow us to expand our reach and pro-
vide educational opportunities for students we don’t often see on campus,” said Grayson College President Jeremy McMillen. “Middle school is a formative time for learning and self-discovery. I am grateful for Bosch Community Fund’s gift to Grayson College that will spark middleschool students’ interest in science, engineering, technology and mathematics fields.”
The Bosch Community Fund has been providing support to nonprofit organizations and teachers in North America for the past 10 years. The Fund prioritizes teacher support and efficacy, hands-on and project-based learning, equity, diversity and inclusion, and sustainability and is dedicated to providing teachers, students, and local communities the tools they need to create exceptional learning experiences and implement innovative approaches to education. Since it began providing funding in 2012, the Bosch Community Fund has made 1,615 grants to over 250 organizations, plus 466 sustainability grants equating to over $36 million dollars to date. Nearly 200,000 students and more than 4,000 teachers across North America were positively impacted in 2021 alone by the Fund's investments.
Grayson College was awarded $7,000 from the Bosch Community Fund to host the RoboTex camp up to six times over three years. This is Grayson College’s first grant award from the Bosch Community Fund.
Middle schoolers interested in the RoboTex camp can find more information and apply at grayson.edu/cwl/courses/ robotics-camp.html or can ask questions by contacting Grayson College’s Center for Workplace Learning at 903463-8765.

If
God Gives Us The Choice!
By Mike Dickison (Minister of the Ivanhoe Church of Christ)
The Creator has given all of humanity the gift of being able to choose. The choice given is right and wrong, each having consequences.
The Israelites were given the choice of right of wrong several times. Moses relayed the message of God, “Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God” (Deuteronomy 11:26-28). Another time the offer of choice was given, “See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil” (Deuteronomy 30:15). Joshua offered a choice and a proclamation; “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose
you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD” (Joshua 24:15). Elijah offered the people a choice; “How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him” (1 Kings 18:21).
The Jews were given a choice. When the Jews were gathered at Jesus’ trial, “Pilate said unto them, ‘Whom will ye that I release unto you?
Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?” (Matthew 27:17). “They said, Barabbas” (Matthew 27:21).
The majority will choose an eternal punishment over obedience to God. Isaiah said, “they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their abominations” (Isaiah 66:3). Micah recorded that the people in such a way that
“they may do evil with both hands earnestly” (Micah 7:3). We have the right to choose. Let us choose eternity with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Jesus said to those “which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:3132). Jesus said “except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3). Christ said, “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 10:32). The Lord said, “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved” (Mark 16:16). Jesus said “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 28:19). We have a choice to make. The responsibility is on us.
Sunday Morning Re-take “Faith of Our Fathers”
Hello everyone!
The Bible tells us in 1 John
3:1, “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.” Our Heavenly Father loved us so much that he sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross so that we can have eternal life through Him. This is an example of the greatest love of all time. As I have said before, why anyone would not want to accept this love is beyond me. My father, God rest his soul, loved our
Life Requires
family very much, and was an excellent example for my sisters and I. It’s been 22 and a half years since he passed away, and not a day goes by that I don’t think about him.
In 1849, Frederick William Faber wrote this classic hymn, which is commonly sung on Father’s Day.
“Faith of our fathers, living still in spite of dungeon, fire, and sword; oh, how our hearts beat high with joy whene’er we hear that glorious word!
Faith of our fathers, holy faith, We will be true to thee till death.”
If you’re looking for a good church home, we invite you to come visit and be a part of our worship here at Central Baptist Church. Visitors are our honored guests, and we hope to see you this coming Sunday!

By controlling our words, our actions, and our conduct, we can encourage peace rather than discord. For example, as believers, we should purposely avoid provoking strife or fighting. Include and

Cooper GOOD. Water lightly stained; 85 degrees. Summer fishing patterns should resume after the recent storms. Catfish are good on cut shad. White bass are good. Crappie are fair with jigs and minnows.
Fork GOOD. Water Stained; 90 degrees; 0.34 feet below pool. Bass are good on topwaters, frogs and spook type baits early in the morning. On cloudy days the shallow bite is good on flukes and chatterbaits on the outside edge of flooded weeds. On sunny days the offshore bite picks up with Carolina rigs and Texas rigs with blue fleck, plum colors best. Designated hitters with big worms, or eight inch bull worms plum or red bug will land bites as well. Best offshore depths seem to be 18-25 feet near deeper water. Deep crankbaits are fair, but the bite is slowing. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Bass are slow with the topwater bite sporadic early and late in the day. Try frog patterns along the outside edge of grass and weed lines. Bream are excellent on beds.
Lavon GOOD. Water lightly stained; 80 degrees; 0.09 feet below pool. Crappie are excellent in the early mornings in 5-10 feet of water on timber in shallow brush piles. As the sun rises, fish transition midday to 12-20 feet of water. Majority of the schools will be at 12-14 feet. A lot of the monster fish are going to be sitting on the bottom and you cannot see them. You will need to take your jig and touch the bottom and lift up real slow and you will find they are hiding right on the bottom. Some days timber is better than brush. If you were to cut the lake in half, it seems that the south half of the lake is fishing best right now. Ray Roberts GOOD. Water is stained; 85 degrees; 0.05 feet above pool. White bass are slow, but should improve soon. Bass are good on Carolina rigs and dropshots in 2-14 feet of water.Some mornings have a good topwater bite. Crappie are good with many undersized catches on brush piles in 15-25 feet of water. Report by Jim Walling, Ucatchem Guide Service.
Tawakoni EXCELLENT. Water lightly stained; 85 degrees; 0.66 feet below pool. Lake Tawakoni continues to fish excellent with summer patterns in full swing. Fish are on the move as the water temperature increases to the mid 80s. Hybrid striper, striper and white bass have been consistent on slabs, in-line spinners and even live bait in 18-30 feet of water on drop offs, humps and long points. Side imaging is helping find the fish. Crappie are good in 8-16 feet on bridge columns, lay downs, and standing timber preferring minnows over jigs. Eatersize catfish are excellent with baited holes producing most of the fish right now. Prepared baits are working best in 22-35 feet of water. Largemouth bass are fair with a solid topwater bite the first 30 minutes on a white frog. Then switch over to a stick bait or shallow crankbait. Fish are holding on shady sides of shallow docks and bridges. Texoma GOOD. Water stained; 80 degrees; 0.33 feet below pool. Striped bass are in the summer pattern. Small stripers are biting swimbaits under working rafts of threadfin shad. Bigger stripers are good with topwater action, and some out in really deep water with great big schools using slabs. Report by John Blasingame, Adventure Texoma Outdoors. Striper fishing is excellent on live bait fishing deep water 60-80 feet. The slab bite is on as well as the fish are making their runs down the deep water banks in the early morning. Look for white birds! Crappie are slow on jigs and minnows in 15-18 feet of water on brush in the Little Mineral Arm. Catfish are fair on cut shad in deep water fishing on the bottom in 60-70 feet. Prepared baits in 15-20 feet of water working for channel catfish. Largemouth and smallmouth bass are fair on live shad along the bluffs on the banks around the gravel. Also try topwaters early near the sandy flats. Report by Jacob Orr Lake Texoma Guaranteed Guide Service.
getting short of moisture for final filling, which may trim off the excellent yields previously expected. Overall, corn was expected to produce above the long-term average yields. The wheat harvest was complete with varying yields. Cotton began squaring. Fleahopper populations built up in ditches and rangelands and have now begun to move into cotton fields. Sorghum progressed nicely and avoided many insect problems so far. Livestock were in good condition, and prices remained steady.
EAST
Strong storms tore through several counties. Winds around 110 mph and higher were reported. Trees, power lines, fences and livestock structures
Property Sale Prompts Fairfield Lake State Park Closure
June 3, 2023
Media Contact: TPWD News, AUSTIN— Fairfield Lake State Park will close to the public beginning 10 p.m. June
4.
“Texas Parks and Wildlife Commissioners continue to pursue options for saving Fairfield Lake State Park, including through condemnation,” said Commission Chairman Arch “Beaver” Aplin III. “But in the meantime, department staff must focus on decommissioning the property before our lease ends June 13.”
The park has been open for day use visitation while Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and its commissioners took persistent and extraordinary steps to negotiate with Todd Interests, which purchased the property from Vistra Corp. TPWD extended a formal offer that totaled $25 million as incentive for Todd Interests to relinquish its contract, which would have allowed TPWD to purchase the park from Vistra. Todd Interests rejected that offer.
Beginning June 5, park staff will begin to remove equipment and relocate staff members. Closure of the park also means the public’s loss of access to the two public boat ramps and a fishing pier on Fairfield Lake, a popular bass fishery.
Commissioners will hold a special meeting at 10:30 a.m. June 10 to consider acquiring through condemnation the 5,000-acre property in Freestone County that includes Fairfield Lake and Fairfield Lake State Park.
“We want to thank the more than 6,250 people who have supported Fairfield Lake State Park since it reopened,” said TPWD Executive Director David Yoskowitz, Ph.D., “and the millions who made memories there in the nearly 50 years before that. We look forward to having the opportunity to welcome you again someday.”

were all heavily damaged. Power was knocked out for many residents. Gregg County reported producers were having to water livestock due to power outages. Record high temperatures were also an issue. Hay production continued in other areas of the district. Cattle markets remained strong. Livestock were in fair to good condition. Weed control was underway.
NORTH
Subsoil and topsoil moisture levels were adequate to surplus for most of the counties. Pasture and rangeland were in fair to good condition. Some counties received significant rains including scattered thunderstorms with hail, damaging winds and flooding. Some counties were dealing with power outages, downed trees and some crop damage.
Wheat, corn, grain sorghum and soybeans looked good. The pasture conditions should improve. Winter wheat was being harvested. Hay was being cut and baled up in some areas. Insect and disease populations were on the rise. Foliar fungicides were being sprayed. Livestock conditions were good and continuing to improve.
ROLLING PLAINS
Temperatures were rising. An extended heat wave could hurt pastures and dryland corn and sorghum. Cotton planting was in full swing with most dryland and irrigated cotton acres planted. Several counties reported better-than-expected wheat harvest yields and test weights. More rain will be needed to sustain pastures, crops and stock tanks.

3 Items That Can Help You
Elevate Your Morning Routine
(StatePoint) A great morning routine makes getting out of bed more pleasant and sets the tone for a successful, happy day. Whether you are a morning lark or a night owl, check out these items that can help you start your days on the right foot.
Wise Funeral Home
1. The perfect cup of coffee: Most people think they are satisfied with their morning cup of coffee, that is, until they try Nextmug, a smart, self-heating mug that keeps beverages warm (130 degrees F), hot (140 degrees F) or piping hot, (150 degrees F) depending on the setting selected. Lab testing has shown that liquid in a standard ceramic mug loses 52% of its heat over a twohour period. Nextmug loses no heat over that same time frame, making it possible to savor coffee or tea for as long as it takes to drink it.
If you have ever resorted to microwaving a forgotten morning brew, which can turn even the best drink bitter, or have simply slugged it down tepid, you will appreciate this sleek, ergonomic, easy-to-use mug. Plus, its optional spill-resistant lid means that you can take your cup of joe throughout the home or office, on the back deck, or wherever you would most enjoy it. For more information, visit https://nextmug.com/.
2. A closer shave: Men can say goodbye to nicks and patchy facial hair. Offering a close shave, even on a dense beard, Braun’s Series 9 Pro Electric Shaver features sensors that adjust power to beard density, and a precision switch to capture tricky hair. Because its builtin sonic technology yields a more efficient shave, and its docking station automatically charges and cleans the razor, you’ll be giving yourself the gift of more time for yourself in the morning.
3. Music and podcasts onthe-go: Add entertainment and motivation to morning workouts with comfortable, durable headphones. Just be sure to consider your needs when selecting the right pair. Whereas bone conduction headphones offer the safety of being able to hear surrounding sounds, which is great for morning jogs and commutes, air conduction offers the best shock-free comfort. Finally in-ear style headphones can isolate outside noise when it’s desired, such as at the gym. The X9pro, allows users to switch between these three modes. It’s also completely waterproof and Bluetooth-connected, so you can listen to your favorite jams and podcasts, even when swimming laps at the pool. And thanks to its 32G storage, you won’t get bored with his listening options.
For brighter, more efficient mornings, find gear that elevates your routine.
Never miss the chance to offer a sincere compliment.

Producers to File Crop Acreage Reports
(Bonham, TX), June 21, 2023 – Agricultural producers who have not yet completed their crop acreage reports after spring planting should make an appointment with the Fannin County Farm Service Agency (FSA) before the applicable deadline.
“In order to comply with USDA program eligibility requirements, all producers must file an accurate crop acreage report by the applicable deadline,” said Amy Lindsey, FSA’s County Executive Director in Fannin County. “Our FSA staff is available to assist producers in completing acreage reports, including providing maps.” An acreage report documents
a crop grown on a farm or ranch and its intended uses. Filing an accurate and timely acreage report for all crops and land uses, including failed acreage and prevented planted acreage, can prevent the loss of benefits.
How to File a Report
The following acreage reporting dates are applicable for Fannin County:
July 17, 2023 Corn, Grain Sorghum, Cotton, Peanuts, Soybeans, Haygrazer, Cover Crops, Grass for Hay/ grazing or left standing
To file a crop acreage report, producers need to provide:
• Crop and crop type or variety;
• Intended use of the crop;
• Number of acres of the crop;
• Map with approximate boundaries for the crop;
• Planting date(s);
• Planting pattern, when applicable;
• Producer shares;
• Irrigation practice(s);
• Acreage prevented from planting, when applicable;
• Other information as required.
Acreage Reporting Exceptions
The following exceptions apply to acreage reporting dates:
• If the crop has not been planted by the acreage reporting date, then the acreage must be reported no later than 15 calendar days after planting is completed.
• If a producer acquires additional acreage after the acreage reporting date, then the acreage must be reported no later than 30 calendar days after purchase or acquiring the lease. Appropriate documentation must be provided to the county office.
• Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) policy holders should note that the acreage reporting date for NAP-covered crops is the earlier of the dates listed above or 15 calendar days before grazing or harvesting of the crop begins.
Producers should also report crop acreage they intended to plant, but due to natural disaster, were unable to because of a natural disaster.
Prevented planting acre-
age must be reported on form CCC-576, Notice of Loss, no later than 15 calendar days after the final planting date as established by FSA and USDA’s Risk Management Agency. FSA offers continuous certification for perennial forage. This means after perennial forage is reported once and the producer elects continuous certification, the certification remains in effect until a change is made. Check with FSA at the local USDA Service Center for more information on continuous certification.
Farmers.gov Portal
Producers can access their FSA farm records, maps and common land units through the farmers.gov portal. Through a new mapping feature, producers can import and view other shapefiles, such as precision agriculture planting boundaries. This allows producers to view, save, print and label their own maps for acreage reporting purposes. To access mapping features and other helpful on-line tools, producers need level 2 eAuth access linked to their Business Partner customer record. Visit farmers.gov/ account to learn how to create a farmers.gov account.
In addition to mapping tools, a farmers.gov account offers a variety of self-service opportunities for FSA and Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) customers, including managing FSA farm loans and NRCS conservation contracts. Video tutorials, including how to use mapping tools, are available on the farmers.gov YouTube channel. Learn more about a farmers.gov account.

Bonham City Council – Recognizing Excellence and Valor
By Rose Schwartz
Monday, June 12, 2023, Pastor Mark Posey of the First Congregational Church of Bonham, led an invocation before the start of the Bonham City Council. Mayor H.L. Compton first thanked all for their attendance before noting there was a Quorum with all City Councilmen present and calling the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.
1. Consider and take action to approve minutes of the May 8th regular meeting and the May 15th special meeting: A motion was made, seconded and passed to approve minutes.
2. Consider and take action to accept financial report for month ending May 31, 2023: Bonham’s Director of Administrative Service Sarah Osburn, gave a report of strong property tax influx as well as sales tax collections. She noted her department would be working with the EDC (Economic Development Corporation) in purchasing software called Zach Tax that has confidential information on big sales tax collectors which should help in projecting sales tax. She touched on the interest received from the Tex Pool accounts and noted she may be proposing a new investment account idea in the future. She noted city budget meetings have begun as have the BEDCo audit for fiscal year 2022. She ended by suggesting future reports be summarized to reduce excessive content. A motion was made by Councilman Wayne Moore to accept the report with Councilman Ernie Quintana seconding the motion which passed.
3. Citizens Opportunity to Speak: [The City Council invites persons with comments or observations to briefly address the Council for the limited purpose of determining whether the matter should be referred to staff for study and response and/or be placed on a future meeting agenda. State law prohibits the City Council from considering deliberations on any item not listed on the posted City Council Agenda.]: There were no speakers.
4. Presentation of plaque to Employee of the Quarter: Bonham’s Human Resource Director Brad Nichols noted the recipient of the 2nd Quarter’s Employee of the Quarter is Jonathan Loiselle who is the Chief Building Official that has been with Bonham since February 2022. Brad spoke of Mr. Loiselle’s 30+ years of experience in his field and commented on the efficient, non-confrontational professionalism he brings to his job and shared one of Jonathan’s favorite quotes as being “We seek compliance, not punishment.”
5. Special Presentation by Police Chief Hawkes: Bonham Police Chief Andrew Hawkes spoke to commend Sgt. Trevor Franz and Patrol Officer Blake Garcia for exemplary performance of their job during “a man with a gun” call on May 6th. He noted how upon arriving at the location of the threat, their lives were immediately placed in danger and how they responded in line with their training while showing courageous bravery in the face of extreme danger. After expressing his appreciation and noting how the City of Bonham and the department is blessed to have men of their caliber on the force, he asked the officers to come forward to receive one of the highest honors in law enforcement, “The Medal of Valor.”
6. Hold public hearing and consider and take action on an ordinance amending Article 13.03 of Chapter 13 – Utilities of the Bonham Code of Ordinances to adopt sanitary sewer and water construction standards and technical specifications: Mayor Compton called to order at 5:40 p.m., a public hearing to hear comments on this. City Manager Sean Pate explained how Hayter Engineering has assisted the City of Bonham in developing a consistent uniform code to present developers in the future specifications to match with the City’s water/sewer models. Mayor Compton asked if there were any questions before ending the hearing at 5:44 p.m. after which Mr. Pate read the ordinance. A motion was made by Councilman John Burnett to approve the ordinance as read. The motion was seconded by Ernie Quintana and passed.
7. Consider and take action to approve a contract with Underwood, Inc. for the 10th St. Lift Station Replacement: Mr. Pate explained how this has been over a year's worth of planning and progress and how lift stations are located at different locations and why they are needed. He noted that the proposed upgrade, whose cost would be covered by a tripartnership between the city, Bedco and G.K. Reddy; will be able to meet the current demand while leaving the capacity for a certain percentage of additional development. After Mr. Pate’s summary, a motion was made by Councilman Michael Evans to approve the contract with Ernie Quintana seconding the motion which passed.
8. Hold public hearing and consider and take action on an ordinance conveying property at 906 Benton St.: Mayor Compton called the hearing to order at 5:47 p.m. after which Bonham’s Director of Community Development Mark Kinnaird conveyed the reasons for the recommendation by the City’s staff to proceed with the sale of this lot for the amount of $8,500. After Mayor Compton ended the hearing at 5:49 p.m., Mr. Pate read the ordinance. Councilman Bill Chapman made the motion to approve with the understanding there would be a chain of title handed to the buyer upon its purchase. John Burnett seconded the motion which passed.
9. Consider and take action to appoint Individuals to the following boards: After some discussion the following persons volunteered their services.
a) Tri-County Senior Nutrition Project, Inc. – Meals on Wheels of Texoma: Councilman Wayne Moore
b) Texoma Area Para-transit Board of Directors: Mayor H.L. Compton

11. Adjourn: Meeting adjourned at 5:56 p.m.
