Commissioners Select EMS Contract and Set Tax Rate By Gabrielle DeMay A regular meeting of the Fannin County Commissioners Court was called to order Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at 9:06 a.m. by County Judge Randy

Moore, at Bonham City Hall, and via teleconference. Judge Moore established quorum; all Commissioners were present. The invocation was given by Reverend Mike Allred of Boyd Baptist Church in Bonham.

Judge Moore led the pledges. Judge Moore recognized Senator Bob Hall’s Aid Beth Purcell in the audience. There were no comments in Public Forum. 6 Judge Moore gave an update on Covid-19 cases in the

County, which includes 214 total, 14 active, and 192 recovered. He believes the low count is due to citizens following the mask mandate. There has been no further communication from the Governor’s Office regarding

the pandemic. Commissioner Lackey asked on behalf of a citizen whether Fannin County could apply for the mask mandate waiver, as the active count is below 20 citizens. Judge Moore stated that the count fluctuates too frequently above 20, and he would like a more con-

sistent count before applying for the county exemption from the mandate. A motion to extend the Fannin County Declaration of Disaster Proclamation for Covid-19 one week passed. 7 A motion to extend the Covid-19 Response and Continuity of Operations Plan for Fannin County one week passed. Commissioner Self commented he was having trouble accessing the DSHS Count by County map, and Judge Moore said he will bring up the issue in a meeting with DSHS later that day. 8 NTMWD Reservoir Project Manager Steve Long gave a presentation and update of the Bois d’ Arc Lake construction. He had a good report for the dam but noted that construction is still affected by the rainy season. He anticipates a late August opening of the FM 897 bridge. Lake Operations Center has had exterior sheeting and roof installed, with the interior framed. He gave updates on many of the smaller bridges as well and showed maps of the raw water pipeline route, which is now 60% installed. Judge Moore asked if NTMWD will do a maintenance follow-up after project completion and heavy rainfalls to verify everything works as planned, and Mr. Long agreed there will be inspections. Judge Moore announced there would be a workshop on Thursday, August 6, to discuss Shoreline Management. Continued See Commissioners on page 8

Celebrate Recovery offers a person the opportunity to participate in a group where love and hope combine with God’s purpose to mend our lives. Ask yourself: • Are there things in my life that I do to hurt others? • Is there something I wish I could live without? • Is there something in my life that has gotten out of control? • Do I have a habit or hang-up from which I need to be freed?

Introducing the Seven Deadly Sins

By Bro. Bill Beasley

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (NIV) Romans 3:23 Since the 6th century, the term “the Seven Deadly Sins” has been used by many to group the wrongs that are so prevalent among us. It by no means is saying that sin in our world is limited to seven. Rather, what it is suggesting is that all sin may be classified in one of seven general groups. Namely these groups are: pride, anger, envy, impurity,

gluttony, slothfulness, and avarice. Most of them may be easily defined, but two or three are not every day terms and may need a clearer meaning – slothfulness and avarice. All sin is a fatal disease, therefore deadly. If left unchecked it is destructive in nature and defeating in result. The word “seven” in the Greek language carries the idea of Completeness or full or whole. While one does not find the seven deadly sins mentioned collectively in a single passage, we will find them condemned separately in many places. We need to remember that the Bible is God’s Word and as such it is His Book given to us to be principles for living. These principles are applicable in multiples

Melt candy bars in microwave. Mix with whipped topping. Pour into crust and chill. Garnish with shaved chocolate.

If you need something for your kids or grandkids to do for a change, this recipe just might work for you. This is probably the easiest recipe I’ve ever printed. When I made the chocolate pie, I used a giant size Hersey bar from Brookshire’s. It seemed like it needed a little something more, so I poured in a large bag of plain M&Ms. The strawberry pie recipe comes from my golf buddy, Mary Kay Mayes, from Grayson County. Her husband is a diabetic, so she uses sugar free glaze, etc. Both of these recipes are great

Commissioners Continued from page 1

9 A motion to approve the minutes from 06/16/2020 passed. 10 Judge Moore introduced Doug Janeway, Property Services Manager with Upper Trinity Regional Water District, to speak about private property access on CR 3370 in Ladonia, regarding Lake Ralph Hall construction. Mr. Janeway noted the road will terminate at the Lake, just past the property of a Mr. Craddock. Mr. Craddock has two parcels along CR 3370, both of which will have access from the road, but Mr. Craddock seeks confirmation of this from the Commission-

ers Court. Mr. Janeway noted the engineering has not been done yet in the area, meaning the elevation of the road cannot yet be determined for certain, though all work done to the road will be in conjunction with Commissioners and be up to County standards. Commissioner Magness added that he has met with Mr. Craddock, and extended his concerns regarding the condition of the road and of where the landowner can place culverts. Mr. Janeway stated Mr. Craddock’s private driveways will be reconnected if any work on the road affects them. A link to information and a schedule of the construction on Lake Ralph Hall is posted on the County Website. 11 Judge Moore opened dis-

cussion on selecting a provider for Fannin County Emergency Medical Services by noting some of the preferences and requirements that influenced the Court’s final selection included: a long-term contract, which some providers were unwilling to consider for the relatively low number of calls and income that servicing the County outside Bonham would entail; the possibility of distributing ambulances throughout the County; support for TMC Emergency Room; and an oversight group to keep the service accountable. Commissioner Lackey emphasized that the point of looking at EMS contracts was not about saving money, but about ensuring better service for citizens. The low number of calls means paying

a higher subsidy, but this is something the Commissioners are willing to pay for continued service. Commissioner Magness stated the decision was made with the best interest of the County in mind. Commissioner Self learned a lot during the process and wanted to be sure they picked the best provider for the citizens. He took the decision very seriously because these responders would be the ones to help his family and friends if emergencies arise. Commissioner Whitlock thanked all who sent information for the position, and though he knows all were good companies with good people, he feels confident the best was chosen. A motion to enter into contract negotiations with the City of Bonham to provide EMS for Fannin County, with them providing fully-staffed ambulances, one of which will be stationed in Leonard, passed. Judge Moore noted that the next steps will be to work out contract details with the City of Bonham. 12 Judge Moore opened discussion on setting the proposed 2020 Tax Rate by saying he and the Commissioners had made a few edits to the proposed budget, which is based on the current tax rate of 0.589. His goal is to only take $500,000 out of the reserved funds, but with the overcrowding in the detention center, the more likely total will be over $1 million. Judge Moore stated these borrowed funds could only be reduced by making further cuts, or by raising the tax rate. Commissioner Magness felt that with the unfunded state mandates and low income due to Covid-19, he was leaning toward a tax rate of 0.599. When the budget goes down, he said, so do services to the County. Commissioner Lackey believes there is a way, through freezing all departments, to ease the budget without raising the tax rate. Commissioner Self agreed

that he would rather make cuts, saying people have had a hard enough time losing work and paychecks to Covid-19 without raised taxes as well. Commissioner Whitlock also preferred to keep the tax rate as is. Judge Moore expects the County will experience dramatic changes in the situation with the completion of the lake constructions. A motion to set the tax rate at the same rate as last year passed. 13 A motion to set the Public Hearing for the Proposed Tax Rate for August 24, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. and to hold a Special Meeting immediately following to adopt the 2020 Tax Rate passed. 14 Commissioner Magness explained he and Commissioner Self were appointed as heads of Bond Supervision, but that the workload is too much for the personnel to handle. Commissioner Magness suggested loaning his secretary to Bond Supervision 1-2 days per week to help with catch up. He noted she is well-qualified and willing to help. A motion to approve loaning Commissioner Magness’s secretary to Bond Supervision as necessary passed. 15 Commissioner Magness spoke on the disbursement of proceeds from the sale of old equipment by Auctioneer Express to help purchase replacement equipment. Judge Moore recommended passing on the item until the next regular meeting, so the correct funds and accounts for the transfer could be identified and included in the agenda item. 16 Commissioner Lackey presented for implementation the Culvert Permitting Process for Fannin County, which he developed from similar policies in Grayson and Hunt Counties. The Process involves submitting a permit application to Development Services Director Lita Huffman, who will contact the Precinct’s Com-

missioner. The Commissioner will do a site visit to determine the correct size of the culvert, the landowner will install the culvert, and the Commissioner will return to inspect it. The Process will be effective immediately, though those already on the list to be installed by the Commissioners’ teams will be finished. A motion to implement the Fannin County policy for right-of-way uses and implement the Culvert Procedures of the culvert installation process, effective today, passed. A fee for the Process will be adopted in the next regular meeting. 17 A motion to approve the FY 2020-2021 Interlocal Agreement between TCOG and Fannin County regarding the provision of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Services to Fannin County for $23,000 passed. 18 Judge Moore invited Purchasing Agent Michelle Case to speak on accepting the quote from Bane Machinery to lease with the option to purchase a Pneumatic Roller for Precinct 3. Purchasing Agent Case explained the lease for 6 months at $3,200 per month offered by Bane Machinery would apply $14,720 of the lease toward the purchase of the equipment. At the end of the lease, the County would owe $39,780 for the purchase. A motion to accept the lease with the option to purchase passed. 19 Purchasing Agent Case recommended awarding the contract the resinous flooring for the Courthouse Renovation to Allied Concrete Systems at $166,821.28. A motion to award the contract passed.

21 Kids Need a CASA

Press Release - At last check, 21 kids in foster care from Fannin County did not have a CASA advocate. “Child abuse has not stopped during COVID-19. Children and youth have continued to come into foster care during the pandemic,” said Sandy Barber, Executive Director of the Fannin County Children’s Center. “Our work has not stopped but many things are being adjusted or done differently in order to keep

everyone safe.” Counseling and court hearings are utilizing video conferencing. Forensic interviews at the CAC have continued in-person, with various safety precautions. CASA advocates have been doing virtual visits with children in foster care and others involved in the cases. The next Volunteer Information Session is set to happen by Zoom on Tuesday, August 25 from 6 to 7 pm. This free, no-obligation session will cover all the volunteer opportunities available at the Children’s Center, including becoming a CASA advocate. CASA, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates, is one of several programs offered by

the Fannin County Children’s Center for the benefit of abused and neglected children. CASA is seeking adult volunteers who can complete training and pass background checks to be appointed by the 336th District Court to serve as Guardian ad Litem for children in foster care. In that role, CASA volunteers regularly visit their

assigned child or sibling group and gather information from parents, other family, teachers, medical personnel, therapists and others in order to make recommendations to the court on what will be in the child’s best interest. They prepare court reports and testify at court hearings too. Many volunteers successfully manage to volunteer

while also working full time and spending time with their families. Currently, advocacy work and meetings are being done by various video apps, phone calls and emails. Court hearings are happening by Zoom. The next training sessions for CASA volunteers will start Sept 15. Training classes will be in the evenings. The plan is for par-

ticipants to have a choice of attending training in person or by Zoom. Participants will also be reading and completing activities on their own time. At least 2 hours of court room observation will also be required. Learn more and apply online at www.fanninccc. org. For questions, contact Amanda McDonald at (903) 583-4339 x240.

Oakwood Cemetery News By Feida Moreland July was a busy month with mowers buzzing almost daily. With over five inches of rain, the

grass and weeds kept growing. Then the wind storm came, and there were loads of small limbs to be picked up and removed from ev-

ery tree. The Board of Oakwood Cemetery would like to recognize one of its members, Carl Linduff, Project Manager. Carl devotes a lot of volunteer hours with

each project, locating and ordering materials, checking prices and daily managing the work being done. It takes team work to make our Oakwood be the beautiful historic

cemetery that it is, and Carl is a big part of that team. Recently he supervised the addition of metal and gravel to the bottom of the antique fence surrounding the cemetery to help pre-

vent the erosion problem happening there. Memorials were given for Charles and Mildred Yarbrough, Polly Gilbert and Manette Stroud in July.

Commissioners Continued from page 8

20 A motion to approve RS Ventures to continue leasing 49.5 acres of the Statzer land south of Ector for another 12 months in the amount of $757.85 passed. 21 Purchasing Agent Case explained the air conditioning unit for residents of the South Jail that is to be replaced out of Contingency Funds is a 3-ton unit, quoted at $5,200. A motion to approve the purchase passed. 22 Judge Moore explained the 75%-25% requirement for spending in smaller counties does not apply to larger counties or schools, and some of the relief Fannin County seeks, such as reimbursement for the overdue inmates in the detention center due to Covid-19, will not be allowed until the 75% is spent on approved expenditures. Judge Moore suggested using a large part of the 75% on testing machines for hospitals and clinics in the area. There is a waiting list for the machines; the machines must be paid for in advance, and they wouldn’t be available before October. 23 A motion to approve the payment of bills passed. 24 Comments: Commissioner Whitlock had no comment. Commissioner Self noted County Roads 4510 and 3805 have bridges that will be temporarily closed until repairs can be made. Garney Construction needs laborers and equipment operators at the treatment center in Leonard. Commissioner Self wished a happy anniversary to his wife. Commissioner Magness noted there is a “bridge out” sign on CR 3625, though the bridge itself is on the Lamar side of the county line. He will explore the possibility of posting certain signs on county roads, so the County may be able to charge fines for road damages due to mudding and 4-wheelers. Commissioner Lackey joined Commissioner Self with his announcement of his own anniversary on July 31. He is confident the budget can be worked out to everyone’s benefit and is proud to lead the County. The Courthouse will see steel going up on the roof next week. Judge Moore met with the Forest Service last week, who requested Fannin County pay them $465,000 in fees for a property that was transferred to Fannin due to new legislation last year. He will contact the Senator’s Offices to set up a meeting and work out if the fees can be removed from the legislation. Judge Moore reminded everyone of the Bois d’ Arc Shoreline Management Plan workshop on Thursday with NTMWD. The meeting adjourned at 11:26 a.m.

BGC to Extend Daily Discount for Senior Citizens and Critical Emergency Service Providers

TYLER, Texas, Aug. 4, 2020 – As part of the company’s continued efforts to assist our customers and communities, Brookshire Grocery Co. (BGC) is extending its discount programs through Sept. 8, 2020 for senior citizens and critical and emergency service providers in all four of its banners – Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, Spring Market and FRESH by Brookshire’s. Having safety as its top priority, BGC continues to uphold its stringent guidelines, policies and procedures, which are constantly being updated to comply with the CDC’s most recent guidelines. “BGC is committed to doing our part to lessen the impact and spread of COVID-19,” said Brad Brookshire, Chairman and CEO for Brookshire Grocery Co. “As long as this pandemic continues to affect our customers and neighbors,

BGC is here for them and implementing precautions and practices to help keep everyone safe. We will continue to give back to our customers and communities while making safety our top priority in our stores.” BGC has offered both discount programs since March and has been able to save discount recipients more than $13.4 million during this difficult time. Senior Citizen Discount BGC is extending the 5 percent daily discount for senior citizens which started on March 18. The discount is available upon request to customers age 60 or older with valid ID. BGC is also still strongly encouraging that the first two hours of operations be reserved as a dedicated time for senior citizens and critical and emergency service providers.

The company is asking for the community’s help in honoring this practice allowing any senior customers to move to the front of the check-out line throughout the day. Critical and Emergency Service Providers Discount The company is also offering a 5 percent daily discount on store brand products for critical and emergency service providers through Sept. 8, 2020. This discount is available for all emergency first responders (EMS, fire department and law enforcement officers), hospital personnel, and active-duty military (including National Guard and Military Reserve). To receive the discount at checkout, critical and emergency service providers must present active first responder, hospital or military identification or name badge. The store brand discount applies to Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods and Spring Market branded products, along with Goldenbrook, Pure Harmony, Top Care, Simply Done, Paws, Tippy Toes, Full Circle, CharKing, Wide Awake Coffee Co., Over the Top, That’s Smart and Culinary Tours. Some exclusions apply and may not be combined with other

discount offers. Safety BGC continues to take proactive and preventive measures, including sanitation practices beyond our normally stringent standards. In keeping with CDC guidelines, BGC is requiring all partner-employees to wear face masks or cloth face coverings in our stores. They are also cleaning and sanitizing stores and hard surfaces as well as fuel stations throughout the day. We have

contracted a professional third-party cleaning company to be deployed if a potential exposure has occurred to clean and disinfect the store. We have increased the frequency in which we sanitize surfaces, shopping carts and baskets, keypads, counter tops, etc. As a standard practice, we have sanitizing wipes available near our shopping carts. In addition, BGC has waived fees for all customers on Curbside orders, where

available, as another way to help those who are depending on the company for this service. Based in Tyler, Texas, BGC is a regional family-owned grocery business that employs more than 15,000 individuals throughout Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas. The company operates more than 180 stores under the Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, FRESH by Brookshire’s and Spring Market banners, along with three distribution centers and corporate offices.

By Hayes Equine Veterinary Services - Weaning babies from their mamas is a stressful time for everyone: the foals, the mares, and the owners! So let’s take a moment and talk about safe weaning practices, since we’re getting to the time of year when weaning becomes necessary. A common misconception that new horse owners have is that mares will wean the baby themselves, because that is what they do in the wild. As you can see from the pictures above, this is not always true. The reason a mare weans her baby in the wild is because she has a new baby to take care of, and she knows the older one needs her less than the newborn. Mares in captivity, especially those that don’t have another baby to take care of, can let their colt nurse for years without self-weaning. Imagine a 4-year-old horse that is still nursing off of its mama! So when is the best time to wean? Most horse people will say the best time for weaning is between four and six months of age. By this time, many of the danger periods have passed for the foal. Of course, the ideal age is dependent on several factors. First and foremost, we must consider the health of both the mare and the foal. Earlier weaning is called for when the mare isn’t able to keep up with the nutrition plane to maintain her own weight while feeding a growing colt. Mares that are consistently losing weight or consistently thin (if you see ribs, she’s thin) can benefit from weaning their colts earlier so they don’t lose more weight than they can gain back before winter comes. This is especially true if she’s a broodmare and already has another colt on the way. She needs to have fat stores in reserve not only for winter, but for the following spring as well after the new baby’s arrival. Horses don’t tend to put on weight in the winter, so summer and fall is the only chance she’ll have to get to a healthy plane of nutrition. Nutritional status of the weaning-age colt is also very important. Some colts will develop a disorder called physitis, which is inflammation of the growth plates. This is caused by too much nutrition, and is noticed when the growth plates start to get big and sometimes painful. You may or may not see lameness when this happens. Look for large, swollen, painful “bumps” just above the fetlocks, knees, or hocks. The best way to stop physitis is to wean as it lowers their nutrition level. With the arrival of summer, it’s also important to consider the weather. Undergoing a period of high stress when the temperatures outside are hot and humid. Weaning during this time is less than ideal as potential issues can arise such as the mare or foal getting sick or colicking from

dehydration. If the mare and colt are both healthy, they may benefit from weaning a bit later. This puts most of the hot weather behind us, and allows for the colt to be a bit more psychologically mature. Weaning when the colt is a bit older puts less stress on both the mare and the colt as the mare is usually ready to say goodbye to her colt at 5 to 6 months, even if the colt isn’t ready to say goodbye. The next consideration to keep in mind is the safety of your mare and colt’s surroundings. One shallow fence line between the mare and foal will NOT be enough. Fencing needs to be tall enough that the mare or the colt can’t jump it and sturdy enough that they can’t push through it. Slick wire, barbed wire, or any fencing secured with T-posts (unless it’s electric with a good zing) really isn’t adequate, nor is it safe. Many mares and foals have had trips to the vet because they tore themselves open on fencing trying to reach each other. And remember, there needs to be at least TWO fencelines between the mare and foal! Ideally, they should not even be able to see or hear each other. The safest option is to put the colt in a stall and take the mare off property. Keep in mind that mares and colts will do anything to reach each other so extra precautions must be taken. If the colt is in a stall, don’t leave the wheelbarrow in the stall door when cleaning and assume that it will be enough of a deterrent. Colts have been known to jump wheelbarrows, jump out trailer windows, and clear fence lines just to look for their mothers. Obviously, foals can get very hurt trying to find mama, so keeping them in an enclosed, safe environment is paramount to everything else. When weaning, don’t be surprised if your colt doesn’t eat for a few days. Stressed out colts don’t want to eat or drink much. This is why it’s important to try not to wean during the hot months. Their behavior may change as well. Your once sweet, docile colt may turn into a fire-breathing dragon for a few weeks or months during weaning. Be sure to do anything that stresses the immune system at least two weeks before or two weeks after weaning. Since the colts are already stressed, vaccinating or worming during this month interval around weaning can cause problems such as a decreased immune response, or worse, the colt getting sick after receiving the vaccine. Colts should be vaccinated at six months if their mothers were given their pre-foaling shots, and can be started as early as 4 months for those where the mares were not given their prefoaling shots. Mama and baby need to be kept separate for at LEAST three months. Many horse owners make the mistake of keeping the mare and colt separate for only a month and thinking that is adequate. However, a month is not enough time for the mare and colt to forget about each other and for the mare’s milk to dry up. If they are re-introduced too soon, the colt will go right back to nursing and the mare will go right back to producing milk. If necessary, move either the mare or colt off site to allow for adequate time to pass between weaning and re-introducing. Occasionally, mares and colts may need sedation to keep them safe during weaning and to reduce the stress level. Talk to your veterinarian about obtaining oral sedation for them to have on hand if things start to look dicey. Yes, weaning can be a stressful time for everyone, but by taking precautions, everyone usually makes it through unscathed. As always, contact your veterinarian if you have questions or concerns regarding weaning.

Commissioners and NTMWD Workshop New Lake Shoreline

By Gabrielle DeMay

The Fannin County Commissioners Court convened Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 9:01 a.m. for a workshop regarding the Bois d’ Arc Lake Shoreline Management Plan and Watershed Protection Plan. Commissioners and Judge welcomed from NTMWD Deputy Director of Operations and Management Mike Rickman, Public Relations Specialist Jeff McKito, Assistant Deputy Billy George, Watershed Manager David Cowan, Water Operations Technical Support Manager Galen Roberts, and Project Manger Steve Long. Deputy Director Rickman opened the first presentation by sharing the importance of having a shoreline management plan to keep a safe drinking supply and recreational use and sustainability in balance. He mentioned several aspects of what NTMWD intends to be a flexible, “living” plan, which include developments such as boat ramps, picnic areas, fish habitats, and site offices for the Sheriff and Parks and Wildlife departments. Water Operations Technical Support Manger Galen Roberts continued the presentation with a timeline of the shoreline management process up to this point, with a technical focus on support and restrictions for public boat ramps, marinas, and private or community docks. He also educated the audience on use agreements, natural resource management notifications, and agreement fees. The NTMWD team took questions throughout, and after a short break Watershed Manager David Cowan began the second part of the presentation, focusing on developing a Watershed Protection Plan (WPP) for Bois d’ Arc Lake. Though WPPs are not usually put in place before a lake is built, NTMWD has initiated the beginning stages of the planning process, in order to preserve water quality for future generations. Mr. Cowan explained there are 44 WPPs in Texas, most funded by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), but with EPA approval, options for federal funding can come into play. Mr. Cowan showed a map of the Bois d’ Arc Watershed, comprised of the lake with its tributaries and the land around it with the possibility of contributing to the reservoir. He gave examples of management measures and outreach and education, such as AgriLife workshops. Outreach and education are critical because Watershed management is not regulatory, but depends upon community involvement. The presentation slides used have been posted to the County Website. The workshop adjourned at 11:17 a.m.

Bonhi seeking another postseason in 2020 despite graduation losses 6/9/20

21-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-9 -- in the third round against Gunter, an eventual regional finalist, on Nov. 11 to stop the Lady Warriors from an even deeper advance last season. Now aligned into the new 11-3A, Bonham for the next two seasons will face Gunter, Pottsboro and most of its previous district opponents -- Bells, Blue Ridge, Howe, Leonard and Whitewright --

Honey Grove’s Makiyah Johnson. Photo by Rich Hilliard By Rich Hilliard Honey Grove’s Makiyah Johnson has verbally committed to play softball for NCAA Division-I Texas Southern University after her graduation in 2021, according to a post on the Facebook page of the Excel Elite Fastpitch Organization on July 31. COVID-19 in mid March interrupted Johnson’s highschool junior season, shortly

after district play had begun, when the University Interscholastic League first paused and a month later canceled the remainder of its sanctioned spring activities. As a sophomore, Johnson earned the first-team selection at catcher in District 132A softball in 2019, as Honey Grove advanced to the regional finals for the first time in softball -- where it took eventual state champion Crawford to

stop the Lady Warriors. She earned the newcomer superlative in 14-2A softball as a freshman, as Honey Grove in 2018 made its then secondstraight regional quarterfinal appearance and second time of back-to-back trips that far during that decade. The Lady Warriors qualified for the playoffs that season after going undefeated for its third-consecutive district championship.

as it vies for a third-straight postseason trip. To help that happen, the Lady Warriors return one of their two 2019 district superlative winners in sophomore Alli Kirkpatrick who claimed the 10-3A newcomer of the year honor. Sophomore classmate Breauna Killgo is also back. Senior Chyrsi Hemby, an all-district honorable mention

in 2019, also returns for Bonham, which last fall qualified for its first consecutive postseasons since 2010-14 with a 10-2 district runner-up effort -- its highest finish in the standings since 2014. Fellow 2021 senior Annie Ukpe is also back for the Lady Warriors whose only district losses last season came against eventual 3A state runner-up Van Alstyne, now a 4A

school. Michelle Rodriguez also returns for the fourth-consecutive year of her second stint as Bonham’s head volleyball coach.

Bonham’s Reaves commits to Grayson College baseball award -- one of three district superlatives earned as Bonham returned to the postseason after a year absence with a bi-district advance. He had a .512 batting average during 10-3A play, totaled a 5-0 record on the mound during district and 51 strikeouts -- compared to only six walks -- with a .408 earned run average.
