Our Dad, Dave Ray, re turned home from World War II. He’d stayed on the front the whole war and never lost in wrestling. His 210 pounds was solid muscle. He was our hero. He lived to be 93.

I followed on the bank.

He kept his hand on my shoulder. He could have sunk me like a bug, but he didn’t apply much pres sure. In a panic, he yelled “GO TO THE BANK!” It was 70 feet upstream. I yelled back, “I AM!” I did the breaststroke down stream to the bank 100 yardsWhenaway.we reached the bank, he laid on the sand a long time without talk ing. Finally, he said. “I wouldn’t have made it without you.”

Even though I’m 90, I’ll never forget the day when I was 15. A lot of us went swimming in the Red River. I crossed the river where it was deep, narrow, and fast. I swam with the current and it was easy. Dad decided to join me but was down-river and tried to swim upstream. The river got wide, and the cur rent took him farther away.

There are not enough words to describe Elijah. He was in the 7th grade and attended school at L. H. Rather in Bonham, TX. He was a very vibrant, smart, and talented young man, with a very large personality. He would tell you how he thought it should be, knowing how to micromanage everything and everyone. You could always tell when he was about to correct something you said because he would start out with “Well actually…”.Elijahloved school and learning. This was evident almost every day, but especially when he won the 2021 spelling bee at I.W. Evans as well as several medals while competing in UIL. As an avid reader at a 12th grade level, he read anything he could get his hands on. Elijah was in honors Math and Reading and took Choir and (PHT) Principles of Hospitality and Tourism. He enjoyed cooking, participated in Robotics, and enjoyed taking things apart just to put them back together again.

Elijah was also very loveable and had a big heart, he loved to be helpful. He enjoyed swimming and going to the beach. He loved art; whether it was drawing, painting, or crafting; he was resourceful and clever in everything and anything that he set his mind to create. He loved his family and friends.

Elijah wanted to learn to play the guitar and to one day learn how to drive a stick shift so that he could drive his Daddy’s Jeep. He enjoyed the company of older women; he would craft or go to the library with Granny Elaine, bake cookies with Grammy Martie, and go play bingo with Memaw Sharon. He even had thoughts of his future with dreams of owning a bakery /pizzeria and running it with his best friend Michael. He walked home almost every day with his best friend Trey and Jesse.

The family received friends at Wise Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday night. Family and friends met at Wise Funeral Home at 10:30 AM Friday morning and went in procession to Grove Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Joshua Ham, Thomas Williams Mason Long, IV, Travis Boren, Buddy Sales, Warren Richards and Corey Armstrong.

Memorials may be made to Arthurs Acres Animal Sanctuary, 89 Ahrens Rd., Parksville, NY 12768.
