Rayburn, I obtained a degree in Agri Business from Tarleton State University and graduated from the Ranch Management Program at Texas Christian University. I later married Diane George of Honey Grove. We have three boys together: Gage, Buford and Conner all students of Sam Rayburn ISD. I now spend my time managing a cattle operation. I own Bob’s Custom Spraying and a Skidsteer business. I am currently on the Board of Directors for Bois D’Arc Mud and am president of the Volunteer Fire Department of Telephone. I am well vested in our community and care deeply for the people in it. While we have grown as a district over the last several years, the potential for exponential growth is knocking on our door. This growth can be extremely beneficial for our childrens’ future. However, you need someone that desires to maintain the structural integrity of Sam Rayburn ISD. I am that person. I want to work for you as the taxpayer to ensure the Board is making sound decisions with your dollar while continually maintaining a very high standard regarding our childrens’ academics, athletics and extracurricular endeavors so that they may be better prepared for the future that lies ahead of them. I would appreciate your consideration and vote in the November election.

New Hope Cemetery Annual Homecoming Cancelled
August 29, 2020 - The New Hope Cemetery Board of Directors recently met to make a difficult decision about whether or not to have the annual Homecoming lunch and business meeting. The Board decided that because the Covid 19 pandemic is still active in this area that the meeting for 2020 should be canceled out of concern for everyone’s health and safety. Although we will not be meeting face to face this year, the cemetery continues with its usual expenses though out the year to keep it mowed, maintained and looking nice. This year we have had some additional expenses attempting to eliminate some of the weeds and grass that are difficult to get to with lawnmower/ weed eater. The Cemetery depends on your donations as much or more than ever. Please also pass this information to family and friends of New Hope Cemetery who may not receive a letter. Feel free to visit the cemetery at any time. Our hope and plans are to be able to get back to our annual Homecoming in September 2021. Please send your donations to the following address to help meet the usual as well as unexpected expenditures for the next year. NEW HOPE CEMETERY 2339 CR 2145 TELEPHONE, TX 75488 Sincerely, Linda Myracle Secretary Treasurer

Once again it is time for us to decide how to vote in the upcoming November election. This is an important election that each of us should put thought into, before casting our vote. I have a few questions that I believe we each should consider before making a decision. • Do you want to live in a socialist country? • Do you want to see the government confiscate guns from law abiding citizens? • Do you want to see police departments defunded? • Do you want to see government take a portion of what you have earned and give to someone else in the name of equality? • Do you want to see religious organizations required to pay taxes? • Are you in favor of late term abortions? There are a number of other questions that need to be answered, but I’ll stop to keep this letter short. If you answered no to any or all of the questions you should be sure to avoid voting for any Democrat. Remember that today’s Democratic Party is nothing like the party that Sam Rayburn and John Kennedy belonged to over 50 years ago. Today’s Democratic Party belongs to Nancy, Bernie and AOC (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez). It is far to the left! Vote Republican! Russell Green Ector, Texas Paid for by Russell Green

How to have an accident
Except for insurance purposes few of us want to have a traffic accident. Accidents don’t just happen. They usually result from attitudes. Attitude causes driving behavior patterns or habits which result in likelihood of accidents. Attitude is more important than age, eyesight, intellect, or skill level. The person who is overly optimistic thinks accidents won’t happen. Weather is bad, the brakes grab, traffic is at a peak, just had an argument and a few beers... no matter, just jump in the car and turn the key on, never had an accident in my life that was my fault. And guess what happens next. --Neal Winningham

“Without prefix, without suffix, and without apology, I am a Democrat!” -- Speaker Sam Rayburn
PLAN YOUR VOTE
Voting in 2020 is going to be an adventure. You’re going to need to be prepared, so here’s some none-too-soon advice: Register: The last day to register to vote for this election is 105-2020. If you need assistance, call the County Clerk’s Office at (903) 583-7486. Vote by Mail: In Texas, you may vote absentee (by mail) if you are: A) Over 65 years old (as of November 3, 2020), B) Disabled (bone spurs don’t count), C) Out of your county of residence on election day and the period of in-person early voting, or D) In jail but otherwise eligible to vote. Your application for a mail-in ballot must be received by the County Clerk’s Office by 10-23-2020. Your ballot must be received by 11-3-2020 at 7:00PM if not postmarked, or by 114-2020 if postmarked by 7:00PM on 11-3-2020. If this is your plan, DON’T WAIT! Early Voting: There are several extra days of early voting this year, and several days of extended hours. Early, in-person voting begins on 10-13-2020. All early voting in Fannin County will be held at the Armory (at Trade Days Park at the intersection of Highway 121 and Sam Rayburn Drive in Bonham). Extra hours are Friday, 10/16, 7AM-7PM, Thursday, 10/22, 7AM-7PM, Saturday, 10/24, 8AM-5PM, and Tuesday, 10/27, 7AM-7PM. Otherwise, polls are open 8AM5PM Monday-Friday through 10-30-2020. Election Day: 7AM-7PM, 11-3-2020. All precincts are expected to be open. Please don’t wait for election day this year. You could get sick and miss it. Still, it’s available in an emergency. Voter Safety: Regardless of when you choose to vote in person, if you are feeling fearful about exposing yourself to the voting environment (or if you are feeling under the weather), you may request curbside voting. A helpful poll worker will bring the (freshly-cleaned) voting equipment to your vehicle where you can safely cast your ballot.
JUST VOTE ONCE Regardless of what you may have heard from any carnival barkers on the electric talking TV machine, you can only vote once. If you want to make sure that your mail-in vote has been received, you can check by phone with the County Clerk’s office at (903) 583-7486.
DIRTY WORDS PART 3 “WELFARE”
The founders of the United States of America stated six reasons for establishing a constitution to govern them. Among those was to “promote the general Welfare.” (Fun fact: “Welfare” was capitalized, “defence” was not.) The word “capitalism” is not in the Constitution. Nor is the word “corporation.”
LOOKING OUT FOR EACH OTHER
A story is told of famous anthropologist Margaret Mead. A student asked her what she believed to be the earliest sign of civilization. Rather than answering pottery, a fish hook or a spear, she said, “A healed human femur (thighbone).” A healed femur indicated that someone cared for the injured person, gave them food and water, and provided protection until they could heal. Where self interest ruled, a broken leg was a death sentence and no healed femurs were found. “Helping someone else through difficulty is where civilization starts,” Mead said. Democrats believe that caring for each other is not an imposition on our freedom, but a gift that we gladly share.
VOLUNTEER: To volunteer for the local Democratic Party, click on fctxdems.org or write to The Fannin County Democratic Party, P.O. Box 297, Bonham, TX 75418. You can also use these methods to contribute material for THE DEMOCRATIC SIDE.
DONATE: To Donate to the local Democratic Party, send check or money order to The Fannin County Democratic Party, P.O. Box 297, Bonham, TX 75418. Contributions are not tax deductible.
LEGAL STUFF: Political Ad paid for by the Democratic Party of Fannin County, Texas. Not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee.
Two picnic tables made and donated by King’s Trail Cowboy Church Youth
9/15/20
By Tina Moore - Open Arms Homeless Shelter has now been able to help more than twenty-five homeless people in Fannin County. Mel McKibbin is serving as Interim Director of the shelter. The shelter has been blessed with much community support. Churches, individuals, and organizations have donated lots of items, time, and money. The shelter could not be open without your support. Open Arms gives a great big thanks to the following restaurants who have provided an evening meal for residents of the shelter: Los Amigos, Golden Chick, Hickory BBQ, Roma’s, Subway, and Juba Pizza. A big thank you to the youth of King’s Trail Cowboy Church (Whitewright) who made and donated two picnic tables to the shelter. The youth decorated the tops with handprints and scriptures. Open Arms Homeless Shelter is participating in North Texas Giving Day on September 17. Any donations to the shelter would be greatly appreciated. Volunteers are really needed! – bring a meal, cook a meal at the shelter, supervise residents, mow the lawn, make phone calls, … Please visit our website www.oashelter.com or call and visit with the director (Mel McKibbin) about volunteer opportunities (903-505-3369).

CLR ELECTRIC
AFTER THE CROSS- PART 2 Before Jesus went to the Cross, he was speaking with His disciples. He asked – “WHO DO YOU SAY I AM?” Simon replied, “YOU ARE THE CHRIST (MESSIAH) THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD.” “Simon” Jesus said, “only my Father in heaven could have revealed this to you. You will be called Peter from now on, meaning Rock. For upon this Rock, this confession, I will build MY CHURCH and the gates of Hell will not withstand it. This church will have the keys to the Kingdom of God.” Matthew 16:17-19. What did Jesus mean? He meant that the revelation of HIs identity was foundational, and upon the foundation of this confession His church – His body of believers would be built. But it would be a church unlike any other. It would be living and breathing, unconfined by time and space. It would continue to grow until the message of this Christ’s Church body covered the whole earth. It would not be adorned with carved pillars, inlaid gold and silver, stained glass, and pipe organs. This Church would be the living, breathing life of God on this earth. The temple was the center of life for the Jewish people, yet Jesus said that “not one stone will be left on another – it will be completely demolished.” Mark 13:2 When Jesus was speaking to the religious leaders, He told them that “you will destroy this temple, but I will raise it up after three days. What?? You will raise up what took 46 years to build, they cried. BUT HE WAS SPEAKING OF THE TEMPLE OF HIS BODY.” John 2:19-20. The true church is the Body of Christ which operates by the Power of God through the Holy Spirit – the Life Breath of God. Peter was waiting in the upper room of a Jerusalem house with 120 fearful followers of Jesus, waiting as Jesus commanded them – waiting for Power. No one could have needed it more. Their Messiah had been arrested, killed, and miraculously raised from the dead. They had seen it with their own eyes; they had touched Him, eaten with Him, and watched Him ascend back to Heaven. HE WAS DEFINITELY ALIVE, but who would believe them? Before Jesus left, He gave a command “Tell this Good News to everyone you see – here in Jerusalem, the surrounding areas, to the uttermost ends of the earth.” Matthew 28:19-20. But do not worry, He said, you will receive the Power, the resources to fulfill your mission. Peter must have thought, “We are going to need it.” It Happened! The WIND, BREATH “RUACH” of God descended on the place and the band of timid, fearful followers became instant evangelists. Peter did not cower – He stood! As the Holy Spirit filled him with the message of God, he turned to the Jewish religious leaders, pointed a finger, and said – YOU KILLED YOUR MESSIAH! BUT GOD RAISED HIM UP! Instead of rushing him, stoning him, or trying to drag him to prison, they cowered – deeply convicted by the Truth. “What must we do to be forgiven of this grievous sin.” “Acts 2:4. These unskilled, common men and women were born into the True Church of Jesus Christ that day. As the Holy Spirit descended on them and filled them, He gave them the message that HE would deliver through their untrained lips. The Holy Spirit did not leave after this event; He stayed to fill every believer that would be born after them. He would fill them with the same Power He filled them with. It was the mission given them by their Savior, and it is our mission today. No longer is the worship of God to be confined to a physical place. True worship emanates from HIS Body, the true church born through the Spirit of God Himself.Peter now grasped what he had not understood before, and in his letter to the persecuted and dispersed Christians that would follow as part of this new church of believers, he encouraged them. Persecution and physical loss are real. They would be scattered and homeless, but they were not without hope. He wrote, you are not the same people you were before committing your life to Jesus Christ; You are newly born and what once was is no more. He reminded them that regardless of their circumstances, “PRAISE THE GOD AND FATHER OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, FOR ACCORDING TO HIS GREAT MERCY HE HAS GIVEN US A NEW BIRTH INTO A LIVING HOPE THROUGH THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST FROM THE DEAD.” I Peter 1:3. They had lost their earthly home, their earthly inheritance, but they now “have an inheritance imperishable, uncorrupted, unfading, and kept in heaven for their eternal life.” This was not the end of their story, and this earth is not the end our ours. Times were difficult; times are difficult, but eternity was and is secure. Peter goes on to describe the real church of Jesus Christ. It is not a building which will decay. The church is built from “living stones being built into a spiritual house for a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” I Peter 2:6. A building is not the church; we are The Church! We are in the darkest days many of us have experienced in this country. The lights are out in many church buildings across America. In this time of violence and moral darkness, our mission has not changed. We may not be worshipping in a way we have become accustomed to, but the mission remains. It may not be comfortable, but the power we have been given is the same Power given by the same Holy Spirit which gave birth to The Church 2000 years ago. Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.” Matthew 5:14. He is with us, the Holy Spirit and His Power is in us, and we have the Keys to the Kingdom of God so that His message can be carried to the ends of the earth. It is our mission and purpose! By Rich Hilliard SAVOY -- Graduation took away an almost-exclusively senior-composed volleyball team for Class 1A Savoy. In 2019, the Lady Cardinals made the volleyball postseason and area round for the fifthconsecutive year. As one of the few 1A teams again in its district, Savoy plays this season knowing a sixth-straight trip to the playoffs has already been assured -- only via which of its grouping’s 1A seeds and how long the postseason will last are yet to be determined. District play began on Sept. 8 for the Lady Cardinals who play now in 16-2A for the next two volleyball seasons with Collinsville, varsity-newcomer Sam Rayburn, Tioga, Tom Bean, Trenton, Wolfe City and

Elsewhere, 6-2A-I, which includes Honey Grove, has opted to start district play a week earlier than scheduled. The move allows for time to make-up any 6-2A-I games canceled due to COVID-19 at the end of the season. Honey Grove will host 3A-II Callisburg on Sept. 18 to complete non-district play and Como-Pickton to start district on Sept. 25. Conversely, 1AII Fannindel had experienced no changes, as of the morning of Sept. 10.

Class 2A Sam Rayburn’s varsity volleyball team members Ector do the now-customary Bonham post-match waive on Sept. 8 after garnering the school’s first varsity district win in the sport in its first opportunity -- 25-23, 26-24, 25-11 -- at Savoy to start 16-2A play. Due to COVID-19 concerns, teams now waive to one another at the conclusion of matches -- in lieu of the previous post-match good-game hand-slap under the net-and stay on the same end of the court during the duration of the match.
