From my LiFe to yours: 5/2/17 A Meeting of God’s Making
By Bro. Bill Beasley Romans 8:28 and Hebrews 4:13 (LB) We serve an awesome God. He sees the end from the beginning. He knows how to make all things work together for good to them who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose. He sees us for
who we are, and where we are, and for what we are doing (Heb. 4:13 LB). My story for this week’s column comes very near the close of my military service. I am at home with dad enjoying a lengthy recuperation leave. I had been there a few days when he suggested that we make a visit to the doctor’s team to thank them for the help they had given in sending packages to me while I was a prisoner of war. I did not receive them, but it was a nice gesture. It became more than a meeting with the physician — it was a meeting of God’s making. One of the young ladies in the office spoke to her
apartment mate about seeing me. The apartment mate was a high school classmate who knew me very well. From this interest, a date was arranged and a beautiful courtship followed. Both of us knew we had a for real relationship. I believed that the meeting was of God’s making. The horror of my prisoner of war experience seemed to lessen in her presence. God had brought a happy ending to some bad memories. God had seen my needs from the very beginning. God had a plan for my life and He was working His plan. To God be the glory.

COOKING IN FANNIN COUNTY
by Tommie Sue Turner
The recipe this week is an old one, and most of you probably have already made it, but I thought it is worth printing. My mother made this recipe, and she passed in 2003, so it’s been around awhile. If you like chocolate and whipped cream, you will love this recipe! WHIPPED CREAM DREAM SUPREME (aka Chocolate Mousse or Mississippi Mud)
1 stick margarine, softened 1 cup flour ¼ - ½ cup pecans (or almonds) 8 oz. pkg. cream cheese, softened 1 cup sugar Large tub of Cool Whip 1 large pkg. instant chocolate pudding mix 1 reg. pkg. of instant vanilla pudding mix 2 cups cold milk Combine margarine, flour, and pecans to form dough, and press into 13”x9” pan. Bake at 350° for about 20 minutes. Let cool completely. Mix cream cheese and sugar. Fold in ½ of Cool Whip and spread on crust. Mix puddings and milk. Pour on top of cream cheese mixture. Finish by layering with other ½ of Cool Whip. Decorate with chocolate shavings and nuts. This recipe can be changed some. If you like strawberries, you may want to try strawberry pudding mix and top it with a strawberry glaze. Feel free to try different combinations. Please send me your favorite or unique recipes to 300 E. Russell Ave., Bonham, TX 75418, or take them by the Leader’s office at 224 N. Main St. in Bonham.

Blessings & Butterflies Kid Kouture Wins 2019 Children’s Boutique of the Year -- Texas
BONHAM - After more than 340,000+ votes were cast, Blessings & Butterflies Kid Kouture of Bonham, Texas was recently named 2019 Children’s Boutique of the Year by shoppers! The Boutique Awards is the only global recognition event for independent boutique retail owners in the fashion industry, hosted by The Boutique Hub & Boutique.Style. The Awards recognize and celebrate the best boutiques across all 50 States in the US, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom, in the categories of Storefront Boutique of the Year, Online Boutique of the Year, Children’s Boutique of the Year, Mobile Boutique of the Year, and State or Country Overall Boutique of the Year. The awards celebrates retail at a unique time, when many are dubbing a current retail apocalypse, with the closings of multiple notable big box retailers and mall staples. However industry trends show a strong upswing in the boutique retail market. The Boutique Hub, the global voice and Hub of the Boutique Fashion Industry, cites one of
The Ten Commandments 1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image; 3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; 4. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 5. Honour thy father and thy mother: 6. Thou shalt not kill. 7. Thou shalt not commit adultery. 8. Thou shalt not steal. 9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. 10. Thou shalt not covet;
the strongest boutique markets in history with new boutiques opening daily across the globe, and established boutiques posting some of the strongest sales to date. The Shop Small movement is certainly alive and well as big box retail dwindles. Blessings & Butterflies Kid Kouture is a trendy children’s clothing boutique with a vintage twist, located right off the Bonham square on Main Street next to Luna Azul. The store opened in November of 2012 and carries the latest in boutique clothing for boys and girls ages newborn through tween. Blessings & Butterflies features popular boutique clothing brands such as Mustard Pie, Giggle Moon, Mud Pie, and many affordable fashion options. Every item is hand selected by the boutique owner, Stephanie Liebel. “ We are very excited to have such loyal customers and honored that they would take
the time to go vote for us. We are blessed that we not only have customers, but have made many friends along the way. So many of you have laughed with us, cried with us, shared joyous occasions with us and even grief with. This award means that we are doing something right and I hope that we exceed your expectations when shopping with us ” said Blessings & Butterflies owner, Stephanie Liebel. “In a time when consumers are choosing experiences over things, and having quality service over finding another piece of fast fashion off the shelf, boutique retailers have found a niche market serving women in a way that goes far beyond trend or price. It’s a lifestyle.” Said Ashley Alderson, Founder at The Boutique Hub. For a full list of winners, visit www.theboutiqueawards.com .

in nine-tenths something that tastes good and hope no one will notice. You know, stuff like chile, mutton, edible vegetables, nuclear waste, cottonwood bark, bourbon and even chocolate. Then, when you can’t taste the squash in it, and most of the slime has settled to the bottom, they smile and say, “How do you like my ‘Squash Canneloni ala Hershey con Brio?” Let’s face it; squash is an unwanted growth on an otherwise perfectly good vine. It starts with a pretty little blossom that inspires Navajo jewelry and attracts bees. Then it begins its insidious malignancy into something that should probably be surgically removed. “I’m sorry Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” says the surgeon, “your squash is in an area that is impossible to reach without

Your vine is pretty much doomed to produce something that – when cooked properly – will still gag a sick dog off a gut truck.” They even try to fool people who might consider buying squash into thinking it tastes like something else. Something like butter. Or acorns. Or crooked necks. Makes you wonder what crime against mankind Mr. Zucchini committed to be forever more squash-damned in the history books. But it’s fall now. Autumn … that time of year when children play in the lazy sunshine and squash vines go belly up. And when we enjoy our pumpkin pie and jack o’lanterns, we’ll smile quietly, knowing we’ll once again be squash free for a few blessed months.

Bois d’Arc Lake Mitigation Area to Serve as Regional Site for Texas Native Seeds Program Research North Texas Municipal Water District Approves Site Use; RES LLC Provides Funding for Three-year Restoration Research Project
September 9, 2019 – Austin and Riverby, TX – The Texas Native Seeds Program is filling a crucial gap in its statewide coverage by adding the Bois d’Arc Lake Mitigation Area in Fannin County as a research site for comparative testing of native grass varieties. The three-year study will identify the best locally-adapted grasses and forbs to use for native plant restoration projects in the area, and will immediately benefit the mitigation site itself. Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute (CKWRI) at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, is a statewide collaborative initiative aimed at increasing seed sources of native plants for use in restoration projects. Over the last 20 years, the model has proven successful in South, Central, and West Texas. A priority for the East Texas Natives Project, part of the overall state program that began in 2018, has been finding a suitable site and research sponsor for the oak woods and prairies ecoregion in northeast Texas. “We’re very excited to have such a well-located site, with a bonus of being able to leverage RES’ onsite operations and practical experience to help with the research,” says Forrest Smith, the Dan L Duncan Endowed Director of TNS. “Our native seed research has helped establish seed supplies and planting practices across the state. The research at Riverby Ranch will help us guide future successful plantings along highway and pipeline rights of way in northeast Texas, as well as on private land, where land use is shifting towards goals of provision of wildlife habitat and hunting opportunities which are supported by native plants. We’re grateful for the new partnership with RES and the water district.” The North Texas Municipal Water District, which owns the mitigation site in Riverby, Texas, as part of the Bois d’Arc Lake reservoir project, and RES LLC, the ecological restoration contractor, are fully supporting the use of the grassland tracts of the 17,000acre site for the seeds study. RES is donating $300,000 to help cover costs of the project, including supplies, researcher expenses, and supporting a

graduate student at CKWRI. RES will partner with TNS researchers to test seed mixes, seed varieties, planting methodologies and plant performance. The research team broke ground at Riverby Ranch on September 6 with site preparation for the first test plantings. “We’re delighted to support this important effort that will provide ecological benefits to the entire region as well as our mitigation project,” says Steve Long, Bois d’Arc Lake Project Manager for the North Texas Municipal Water District. “This is an ideal partnership opportunity for our restoration work at Riverby Ranch,” says Elliott Bouillion, RES President and CEO. “We’re thrilled to be supporting and learning from the TNS team and to join the coalition of partners who are funding this research and need this knowledge to be great ecological stewards of the land. As a bonus, the conservation areas we manage, including Riverby Ranch, will benefit directly from access to seed supplies and best practice knowledge.” About the Texas Native Seed Program The East Texas Natives Project and Texas Native Seed Program are research efforts operated as part of the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. ceived. Just as Jerry said there is a lot going on, but we need to get more industry in Fannin County. That is where you get your tax base. Otherwise our local people who have lived here a long time is going to be taxed right out of the county. We need to make that a top priority. • Judge Moore - Regardless of what happens and what we do here, I want you to keep in mind the most important thing we can do is learn to live together in unity. Judge Moore also congratulated District Attorney Richard Glaser for his 50 years in the legal profession. 26. Meeting adjourned. Fannin County Commissioner Court Meetings are held every Tuesday at 9:00 am at Bonham City Hall. The public is invited to attend.
Letter to the Editor
My response to the letter submitted by Barry Schwartz in the September 17 edition of the Leader, is that we who live in the United States of America are extremely fortunate to participate in a democratic system of government. As a member of the Democratic Party, I strongly support the first amendment to our constitution that gives Mr. Schwartz and all of us freedom of speech, and I encourage the exercise of that right! As a former English and journalism teacher, however, I would like for Mr. Schwartz to have included supporting details to help me understand his clearly negative opinion of Democrats in general. Because I believe that debate and dialogue are essential to a healthy democracy, I fervently hope that Democrats and Republicans will look for opportunities to engage in meaningful conversation with one another. Dodd City remained at No. 13 in the Class 1A-2A volleyball rankings on Sept. 16 by the Texas Girls Coaches Association. The 1A Lady Hornets held the spot for the second-straight week, as the start of District 12-2A play awaits on Sept. 27 at 2A Trenton. Photo by Rich Hilliard By Rich Hilliard BONHAM -- Veteransabound as Class 3A Bonham looks in 2019 to build on last fall’s postseason return. Several of the veterans return after garnering all-district notoriety in 2018, when the Lady Warriors clinched the fourth and final District 103A postseason berth to end a rare absence for the program -- three-consecutive seasons -from the playoffs. Senior Averi Reeves, who claimed 10-3A’s hitter superla-
tive last fall, is back for Bonham, which had its postseason return prematurely ended by championship competition -eventual 2018 3A title winner and recent state tournament veteran Callisburg -- in the bidistrict round. Carsyn Hemby, another senior, has resumed her role as a setter for the Lady Warriors, after garnering a first-team alldistrict selection last fall. Bonham also from the 2018 roster welcomes back senior Raegan Shackelford, a secondteam all-district honoree.
Joining the trio again on the varsity for the Lady Warriors are seniors Emma Bounds and Lily Wilson and juniors Joli Kirkpatrick and Chyrsi Hemby -- each of whom received an all-district honorable mentions last fall. Annie Ukpe, another junior, plays again on the varsity for Bonham, which on Sept. 17 defeated Blue Ridge, 25-10, 25-21, 25-23, to improve to 2-0 in 10-3A during Michelle Rodriguez’s third season of her second stint as head coach.
