Celebration of Easter......................2-3

aster (Paschal) Triduum refers to the celebration of the three days of the Paschal Mystery of Christ, starting with the evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday, and continues until the start of the Easter Vigil on the evening of Holy Saturday in the Catholic Church. On Holy Thursday during the Holy Eucharist, the celebrant (Bishop/Priest) washes the feet of 12 men in commemoration of the great gesture of self-emptying and self-giving Jesus showed at the Last Supper. The Eucharistic celebration follows adoration until midnight, Fr. Luke Kalarickal Priest Chaplain an act of keeping vigil with the Lord in his agony in the garden of Gethsemane. On Good Friday, the Church commemorates the Passion of Christ in the afternoon, usually starting with the Stations of the Cross, followed by Passion Service which consists of Liturgy of the Word, Veneration of the holy cross and Communion Service. It is observed as a day of prayer, reflection and fasting. On Holy Saturday, the Easter Vigil begins with the service of fire outside the church at sunset. The darkness outside symbolizes the darkness of sin and death – a darkness that we, as humans, have no power to conquer. From the new fire, the Paschal Candle is lit. The Paschal Candle symbolizes Jesus the true Light that has conquered darkness and death. We then follow the burning Paschal Candle into the church, symbolizing our way of following Jesus into our communal home, where we daily celebrate his saving love. During the procession, the faithful light their candles from the Paschal Candle. We identify ourselves as being illuminated by the light of Christ emanating from the Paschal Candle. It is the light of Christ that burns within each believer who witnesses to faith in the Risen Lord. The procession ends with Easter Proclamation (Exsultet) in the church, a chanting of the salvation history. The second important part of the vigil service is the Liturgy of the Word, followed by the baptism of candidates who have been preparing themselves during the past two years. The whole celebration culminates with the Liturgy of the Eucharist. On Easter Sunday, Mass is celebrated at different times according to the pastoral need. continued on page 3

In the Eastern Catholic Church (in India), it is celebrated similarly but with a little addition. On Holy Thursday, the Mass of the Lord’s Supper begins in the morning, followed by whole day adoration. At every home special unleavened bread and drink (prepared with coconut milk and brown sugar, boiled well and blessed with the palm leaf received on Palm Sunday) will be distributed by the head of the family to all the family members in the evening, after special prayers in commemoration of the Last Supper. Then the whole family spends the night praying and singing Biblical chants concerning the salvation event. The Passion Service on Good Friday begins in the morning. Bitter herb is given to all the faithful in commemoration of the bitter drink offered to Jesus on the cross. Stations of the Cross take place in the afternoon, journeying for about 1-2 miles, covering all the 14 Stations. Easter Services begin at 3 a.m. on Sunday. Mother Frances hosts a simple celebration of Easter Triduum in the main chapel. On Holy Thursday, Mass of the Lord’s Supper will be celebrated at 5 p.m., with no washing of feet. On Good Friday, a special Service will be conducted at noon. Our hospital choir will grace the Service with its beautiful harmony. Easter Mass will be at 8 a.m. on Sunday. Every Wednesday of Lent there is Stations of the Cross at noon. Everyone is cordially invited to all these holy events.

Keeping Your Cool During Stress Awareness Month By: Leaha Large, MS, Employee Health Coach

April is Stress Awareness Month! In honor of this, and to promote a different way of thinking about stress, let us consider some intrinsic factors. This list was taken from Spark People’s website and talks about 10 High Stress Personality Characteristics. How many of these qualities do you exhibit? 1. Over-planning each day. Do you feel the need to stick to a strict schedule? Do you live in fear of falling behind or overlooking a task? 2. Doing several things at once. With too much to do and not enough time, it is easy to think that “efficient” means doing everything at once. He who chases two rabbits catches neither. 3. Extreme need to win. Do you feel like a failure if you do not come out on top – even when the only competition is your own expectations? 4. Excessive desire for advancement. Highly stressed people need confirmation from outside sources that they are doing okay and performing well. 5. Inability to relax without feeling guilty. Do your weekends become opportunities for “accomplishment” and “getting something done?” 6. Impatience with delays. When you are under pressure, everything in life takes on urgency and the additional burdens to get everything done as quickly as possible. 7. Over-commitment. Are you chronically late or forgetful of commitments? Does your schedule cause problems in personal or professional relationships? 8. Chronic urgency. See #6. Now! 9. Highly competitive drive. Have you forgotten what it is like to have fun for fun’s sake? Have you “grown up” so much that playtime actually causes you anxiety? 10. Compulsion to overwork. Is your office more familiar to you than your backyard? Do you find yourself missing out on what you might otherwise deem “meaningful”? 5 TrinityTALK tribune APRIL 2014

As a new mom, I can definitely relate to a few of these. Numbers 5, 2 and 1 seem the most applicable. Who has time to relax when there are bottles and dishes to wash? My spouse, on the other hand, is a number 3. From working out to driving in traffic, he is a number 3 through-and-through. I am sure we all have been blessed with at least one of these characteristics to keep us from becoming lifeless slugs, but the key is not to let them run our lives or ruin our health! Dr. Thomas Cooper, D.D.S, and Richard Clayton, Ph.D., promote the LARK method to stress management in their smoking cessation program. L is for LOOK: observe the situation before you do anything else. A is for ACCESS: access the stressor, and decide on the level of response. Is this really a “code red” situation? R is for REACT/ACT: react/act on the situation only after you have looked and accessed. K is for KNOWING: “this means knowing the difference between things that are worth the stress and those that are not, and also knowing how to gain perspective.” In closing, I leave you with a passage from the Richard Carlson’s “Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff... And It’s All Small Stuff:” Something wonderful begins to happen with the simple realization that life, like an automobile, is driven from the inside out, not the other way around. As you focus more on becoming more peaceful with where you are, rather than focusing on where you would rather be, you begin to find peace right now, in the present. Then, as you move around, try new things and meet new people, you carry that sense of inner peace with you. It’s absolutely true that, “wherever you go, there you are.”

Patient Confidentiality and HIPAA Reminders As a Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics team member, what should you know about privacy? Trinity Mother Frances recognizes that patient privacy is critical to building and maintaining our patients’ trust. We utilize a privacy monitoring solution called FairWarning to help us ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and internal policies. However, we still need your help. Please report any actions or processes you observe that could compromise patient privacy to the Privacy Office. There are two primary ways to communicate your concerns, one is an online submission located at https://tmfhs. privacyprosolutions.com/report. The other is to call the Privacy Office at (903) 606-5137. Your communication with the Privacy Office is strictly confidential. Remember these key components to ensuring confidentiality for all patients at Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics.

Faxing and Printing

Please be sure you are faxing or printing patient information ONLY from within designated ConnectCARE/Epic workflows. This provides important patient confidentiality protection.

Patient Confidentiality Flags

The following patient confidentiality flags help protect our patients’ privacy. Please familiarize yourself with these designations. • Private Encounter marks the patient’s encounter as private and keeps the patient’s name from appearing in places like the ED Track board or House Census while in house. This is often combined with a Break-the-Glass flag to protect the encounter’s documentation from unauthorized users. Example: crime victims. • Break-the-Glass is a function of the auditing process. For example, a Break-the-Glass warning occurs when an individual not on the patient’s care team attempts to access the record. Users can still access the encounter, but they are prompted to enter their password and reason for accessing the record as an extra level of security. Every time a user accesses a Break-the-Glass encounter, it is recorded and a message is sent for monitoring. Example: Cosmetic Surgery. • Release Restriction triggers the mother and baby to be billed separately and alerts HIM users to the release restriction on the patient. Example: Adoptions. • Confidentiality Patient is a patient level flag added in Registration that functions like Break-The-Glass for all encounters associated with the patient. Example: Celebrities or public figures. Finally, what should we tell our patients about security? Tell them we value their privacy and are taking active measures to protect their confidentiality. Our Privacy Office receives alerts if suspicious activity is detected and acts quickly to address potential violations. If they have questions or concerns about the privacy of their information, they may contact our Privacy Office at (903) 606-5137.
