Diagnostic Services and Screenings Trinity Clinic Athens is supported by a broad base of services, enhancing the quality of care offered to patients in a location that is close to home. Ross Breast Center – Mobile Digital Mammography Since 1992, we have provided mobile mammography services to the women of East Texas to ensure convenient access to this potentially life-saving screening.

Our skilled physicians, nurses and technicians have been specially trained to deal with all medical emergencies, including rapid stabilization of heart attacks, strokes, trauma, poisoning, severe bleeding and other sudden illnesses in adults and children.

The center’s diabetes educators are licensed professionals who specialize in helping patients understand and manage their diabetes. Emergency Care Center Trinity Mother Frances Winnsboro patients benefit from our high tech facilities and highly trained medical specialists who staff our Emergency Care Center 24 hours each day. Hospitalists

W

hether explaining a medical procedure, providing updates on a patient’s condition or planning for appropriate care after discharge home, our hospitalists are dedicated to ensuring that our patients are comfortable and receive very good care while in our hospitals.

Hospitalists can be internal medicine or family medicine physicians and have training in other medical specialties such as cardiology and intensive care.

They assume the primary responsibility of efficiently managing the process of inpatient care for medical and surgical patients from the time of hospital admission to the time of their discharge home. They do not replace the patient’s primary care physician, surgeon or any other specialist, but in fact work closely with them to provide total case management for the entire period of the patient’s hospital stay. After a patient is discharged from the hospital, follow-up visits should be made with the primary care physician who consulted with the treating hospitalists in developing the treatment plan during the hospital stay.

ompassionate, comprehensive care at Trinity Mother Frances begins with our smallest patients—newborns. For over 70 years we have been known as the “baby” hospital of East Texas. With our annual number of births nearing 3,000, we are dedicated, as a faith-based organization, to giving every new life quality medical care.

In 2008, Mother Frances opened the first level IIIA Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Tyler through the generous support and involvement of the community. The NICU is equipped to care for babies born as early as 28 weeks, or weighing as little as 2.2 pounds, as well as full-term babies with breathing difficulties, infections and other health conditions.

For newborns meeting this criteria, the safest mode of transport to our NICU is directly from the Trinity Mother Frances Birth Center. By choosing to deliver at Trinity Mother Frances you can ensure that your newborn has immediate access to the medical expertise they need. But when situations arise and transport from another facility is necessary, our Neonatal Transport Team is available for the emergency ground transport of infants in need of the care we provide at the Trinity Mother Frances NICU. wo of the area’s leading healthcare organizations, Trinity Mother Frances and Good Shepherd Medical Center, joined forces and created the partnership for lifesaving services of Champion EMS. Champion EMS now provides technologically advanced emergency transport services to the people of East Texas.

Health – are equipped with vital life-saving equipment such as advanced life support cardiac monitors and defibrillators, intubation equipment and a full complement of medications and intravenous solutions. The role of each crew is crucial in initiating Code STEMI protocol for heart attack victims, Code Stroke protocols for stroke victims and other emergency needs before arriving at the hospital.

Champion EMS serves a 35-county region with quality emergency medical services. In addition to emergency transport, Champion EMS provides transfer services for patients needing transportation from hospitals to convalescent, rehabilitation or long-term nursing care facilities. All Champion EMS paramedics are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support, Pediatric Education for Pre-Hospital Providers, and are committed to providing quality emergency care to those they serve.

Champion EMS operates one of the region’s most technologically advanced communication centers. The 911 dispatch service is able to communicate with virtually every public safety agency in Northeast Texas. It is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week with certified emergency medical dispatchers who will stay on the line and provide emergency care instructions until the ambulance arrives.

Flight For Life

S

ince 1985, The Flight For Life aeromedical program has answered the regional need for rapid transport in a critical care environment, of critically ill and injured patients, from isolated rural medical facilities and EMS agencies to tertiary care centers.

No matter where you live in East Texas, Trinity Mother Frances technologically advanced Flight For Life medical team is minutes away. The EC145 flies up to 145 knots, or roughly 166 miles per hour. And that’s never more important than when you face a heart attack, stroke or trauma. We serve victims of stroke, trauma and cardiac emergency in 32 counties. On occasion, Flight For Life also transports patients to facilities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Texarkana, Shreveport, Houston and other appropriate facilities in East Texas.

The flight team consists of a pilot, a flight nurse, and a flight paramedic specially trained in both Adult Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support for critical patient transports.

During life-threatening emergencies, our highly-trained medical team offers the fastest and highest quality care possible.

he goal of our physical and occupational* therapists is to return our patients to normal function as quickly and safely as possible. Our rehabilitation professionals work with each patient’s physician to develop an individualized care plan. We provide a broad range of outpatient rehabilitation services.

Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Rehabilitation We offer advanced treatment for many acute and chronic Orthopedic conditions of the extremities and spine, including post-surgical rehab. Aquatic Therapy Aquatic therapy is an exercise program that is performed in the water and is a beneficial form of therapy that is useful for a variety of medical conditions. One benefit of aquatic therapy is the buoyancy provided by the water which assists in supporting the weight of the patient. This decreases the amount of weight bearing which reduces the force of stress placed on the joints. By decreasing the amount of joint stress, it is easier and less painful to perform exercises which can speed up recovery.

Aquatic therapy is available in Athens, Canton, Lake Palestine, Lindale, Jacksonville and Tyler.

Neuromuscular Rehabilitation Patients with neurological deficits such as those caused by stroke or brain injury often require outpatient rehabilitation.

eart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Strokes are the third leading cause of death in America and the leading cause of adult disability. Both strokes and heart attacks are preventable in most cases. Keys to prevention include: • Quitting smoking • Lowering cholesterol • Controlling high blood pressure • Maintaining a healthy weight • Exercising • Getting regular medical check-ups Heart Attack Warning Signs Some heart attacks are sudden and intense. But most start slowly, with mild pain or discomfort. Here are some of the signs that can mean a heart attack is happening: Men • Chest pain lasting more than a few minutes, or that goes away and comes back • Discomfort or pain in the jaw, neck, shoulders, arms or back • Intense sweating or shortness of breath • Nausea or vomiting Women • Unusual chest pain, stomach pain or abdominal pain • Nausea or dizziness • Shortness of breath and difficulty breathing • Palpitations, cold sweat or paleness If you experience any of these symptoms, call 911 immediately.

If you are experiencing symptoms of an acute heart attack, time is muscle. Our Code STEMI protocol has reduced transport to treatment time from 133 minutes to less than 60 minutes – a life-saving difference that is better than national guidelines.

Emergency care centers and emergency transports throughout the region have joined Mother Frances Hospital Tyler in this initiative. Code STEMI is part of the American College of Cardiology national quality improvement project.

Stroke Stroke is a condition that affects the arteries leading to and within the brain. A stroke occurs when a blood vessel that carries oxygen and nutrients to the brain is either blocked by a clot or bursts. When that happens, part of the brain cannot get the blood (and oxygen) it needs, so it starts to die.

Stroke Warning Signs • Numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body • Change in vision in one or both eyes • Trouble speaking or understanding • Trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination • Severe headache with no known cause

DirectCARE vs. ER There are times when unexpected illnesses can occur, even when you are managing your health, such as when your primary care provider’s office is closed and there is a need for medical treatment. First, ask yourself if your illness is life-threatening.

If the answer is no, the solution is to seek treatment at one of our DirectCARE facilities or an urgent care center, instead of the Emergency Room (ER).

Urgent care visits are generally an hour or less and walk-ins are welcome. An emergency room will treat those with lifethreatening illnesses or injuries first, so you could wait two hours to be seen. Visit the ER if you have: • chest pain • difficulty breathing • head trauma • near amputations • severe bleeding • other potentially life-threatening emergencies

irectCARE, staffed by physicians and other trained professionals, is your best option for after-hours care for non-life-threatening conditions that need attention right away. These include minor illnesses/traumas, such as: • bronchitis • coughs, colds and sore throats • ear infections • hypertension • minor cuts and scrapes • pneumonia • urinary tract infections • other routine illnesses

If you’re not sure if a problem is serious, and your primary care clinic is closed, call ahead to one of the Trinity Mother Frances DirectCARE facilities. If you need more extensive care, you will be referred to our Emergency Care Centers in Tyler, Jacksonville or Winnsboro or another ER facility.
