WELCOME TO SPRING 2019! A note from the Chief Librarian
Welcome to the Kamloops Libraries’ Spring Program Guide, featuring programs running from March through June, 2019. I’m delighted to highlight a few of our many new offerings! You will find a roster chock-a-block full of our regular children’s programming – from Rock-A-Bye Baby, Parent-Child Mother Goose, and Tiny Tunes— to our first-ever Man in the Moon program, which is designed for kids ages 0-5 and their dads, grandpas and other male caregivers.
BUDDING BIRDER BACKPACKS
New to the Thompson-Nicola Regional Library through a partnership with Science World and with support from CanCode are Ozobots: robots that are designed to teach coding concepts without kids ever having to touch a computer. Also check out StopMotion Movie Making to create your very own movie, Teen Music Maker workshops using creative apps, and drop-in MakerLabs for tweens to experiment with new technology.
Now available!
Authors and knowledge-keepers Marilyn James and Taress Alexis of the Sinixt First Peoples in the West Kootenay region will share traditional and contemporary stories from their book Not Extinct: Keeping the Sinixt Way. Programs featuring gardening, paddling, crafting, wellness, poetry, writing, and investing round out our offerings. The Art in Public Spaces program, through the Kamloops Arts Council in partnership with the TNRL, will be launching early spring in both libraries. You can look forward to paintings and photography on a rotating basis that will enhance our public spaces, and provide opportunities to showcase our region’s artistic talent. Our extreme lending program continues to expand this spring through a partnership with the City of Kamloops and FortisBC in the “See the Heat” program, which sees thermal cameras available for library patrons to borrow to identify areas of heat loss in their homes. We’re also introducing the Budding Birder Backpacks, a legacy of the Stewardship Roundtable, hosted by the Stewardship Centre for BC and Bird Studies Canada, and made possible with the generous support of Wildbirds Unlimited Vancouver and Vortex Optics. We’re also delighted to be launching AncestryLibrary. It will help our patrons find information to uncover their history and understand the stories that have shaped who they are. *AncestryLibrary will be available in-branch only. Your feedback on library programming and services is welcomed through our website: Ask a librarian www.tnrl.ca
Kind regards,
Judy Moore, Chief Librarian
