WELCOME TO SUMMER 2019! A note from the Chief Librarian
Welcome to our Kamloops Libraries’ featured programs for summer 2019. I’m delighted to highlight a few of our many offerings. Summer Reading Club is fun for everyone! This year’s province-wide theme is Imagine the Possibilities and is the perfect jumping off point for reading. From preschooler through to school-aged, teen, and adult challenges, it’s the best way to relax, take in the sun and enjoy the hazy lazy days of summer. Children’s You’ll find a whole host of our regular children’s programming like Tiny Tunes, our ever-popular storytimes for families with stories, songs, fingerplays, and rhymes, and a special summer session of Parent-Child Mother Goose.
Maker and Youth Programs Experiment with new technology! Our Ozobots Coding Camps will teach youth ages 9-12 how to code without using a computer. Stop-motion movie making, digital art classes, Dungeons & Dragons and Minecraft complete our summer Maker Program offerings. Technology Programs Designed to support adults from novice through to expert, we’re featuring in-library sessions on everything from computer/tablet/smartphone basics to more advanced applications including digital photography, Microsoft Excel, Windows 10 and more. Be sure to register for sessions to avoid disappointment! Drop-in tech help is also available at both of our Kamloops Libraries. New Partnerships Check-out our bird watching starter pack – the Budding Birder Backpack! It’s the perfect way to spend some time outdoors and learn about birds of the region! Containing binoculars and BC birder information, these kits are provided by Stewardship Centre for BC and Bird Studies Canada, and are made possible by the generous support of Wild Birds Unlimited Vancouver and Vortex Optics. Be sure to check out tnrl.ca for this and other extreme lending opportunities! The Art in Public Spaces program through the Kamloops Arts Council has now launched at our Kamloops Library with our North Kamloops location to follow. Please consult our website for information on the current artwork on display and enjoy the Region of BC’s Best artistic talent. Finally, the long-awaited Amplified Cafe opened its doors on June 3 at the TNRD Civic Building with access into the Kamloops Library. Proprietor Daniel Houghton and his team will proudly brew premium coffee (and other beverages!) and offer pastries from Red Seal Black Salts. We welcome your feedback on library programming and services through our website: Ask a librarian www.tnrl.ca. Kind regards, Judy Moore, Chief Librarian
