The pathfinder includes selected library resources, websites, and organizations. The resources listed here are those that library staff and patrons have found to be useful and are not intended to be exhaustive. Library staff are happy to assist you with any questions outside the scope of the pathfinder. Remember to check the library website (www.tnrl.ca) for additional online resources. You can then note the province, district, subdistrict, and subdistrict number to assist you in locating the appropriate microfilm reel or the digitized version (where possible). BC Archives http://search-collections.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/Genealogy/basicSearch B.C. Archives is the central archives of the provincial government. It provides research access to the public. Holdings include: government records, private manuscripts and papers, maps, charts and plans, photographs, paintings, drawings and prints, audio and video tapes, film, newspapers, and a library of publications with a strong emphasis on the social and political history of B.C. and the Pacific Northwest. British Columbia Cemetery Finding Aid http://bccfa.islandnet.com/bccfa-search.php The British Columbia Cemetery Finding Aid is a pointer database consisting of surnames, cemetery name and location of more than 344,000 entries collected from records and headstone inscriptions from 264 cemeteries situated in B.C. British Columbia Genealogical Society https://www.bcgs.ca/ The Society's focus is British Columbia, but limited research support for Great Britain and parts of Europe is also available. The resource centre in Surrey, B.C. includes over 10,000 publications and the Web site is extensive. Canada GenWeb Project http://sites.rootsweb.com/~canwgw/ The purpose of this project is to assist researchers in locating information, as well as to add to the existing online data for genealogy research. Canadiana http://www.canadiana.ca Search digitized works dating from the time of the first European settlers up to the early 20th Century. Includes colonial, federal, and provincial government publications as well as a few special projects such as the history of the Hudson's Bay Company, women's history, and Jesuit Relations texts translated into English. Canadian County Atlas Digital Project http://digital.library.mcgill.ca/countyatlas/default.htm County atlases for Ontario published between 1874 and 1881. Searchable database of the property owners' names which appear on the township maps in the county atlases. Search for the biography of your favourite Canadian. dMarie Time Capsule http://dmarie.com/timecap/ Provides headlines, top songs, prices, t.v. shows etc. for date chosen. Encyclopedia of British Columbia http://knowbc.com/ Search for facts, history, or people related to British Columbia. Search by keyword, subject or alphabetic index. Encyclopedia includes video clips, teachers' resources, and an online forum. Heritage Walking Tour https://www.tourismkamloops.com/thingstodo/tours-itineraries/heritagetour/ Embark on a self-guided heritage walking tour and learn about the history behind the cultural buildings in downtown Kamloops. Hudson’s Bay Company Archives https://www.gov.mb.ca/chc/archives/hbca/ The Hudson’s Bay Company Archives includes over 300 years of records relating to the North American fur trade. The holdings include handwritten journals, correspondence, and accounts of more than 500 HBC trading posts (1688-1949), Company ships’ logs, original maps and plans, various journals of travel and exploration, a photograph collection and an art collection. Use the finding aids to locate records and order microfilm. Kamloops Family History Society http://www.kfhs.org/ Formed in 1982, this non-profit society offers a variety of fee-based services as well as genealogical resources and programs. Kamloops Museum & Mary Balf Archives https://www.kamloops.ca/parks-recreation/kamloops-museum-and-archives The Archives is a repository of historical manuscripts, photographs, maps, local newspapers, finding aids, and other documents relating to the history of Kamloops and district. The Archives also houses microfilm copies of the Canadian Census and the Department of Vital Statistics birth, death and marriage certificates.

ONLINE RESOURCES MemoryBC https://www.memorybc.ca/ The MemoryBC.ca portal provides a searchable database of the materials available at nearly 200 archival repositories throughout the province of British Columbia. Ontario Archives Microfilm Catalogue http://www.archives.gov.on.ca/en/microfilm/index.aspx Discover what microfilm is available for interlibrary loan. On this website begin with ‘start your research’ to find available microfilms and vital statistics such as birth records, death registrations and marriage certificates. There are pathfinder hints to help you along. Use the research guide provided if you need more tools. Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid http://ocfa.islandnet.com// A pointer database consisting of the surnames, cemetery name and location of over 2 million interments from several thousand cemeteries, cairns, memorials and cenotaphs in Ontario, Canada. Search the site often as local histories are always being added. Sites also includes educational resources for both students and teachers. Pier 21 http://www.pier21.ca/ This award-winning interactive site includes stories written by immigrants and war brides who passed through Pier 21 in Halifax Harbour when they came to Canada. Other features include a virtual historical library, mailing list, bibliography, links section, and photo gallery. Surrey Public Library - Cloverdale Genealogy Collection https://www.surreylibraries.ca/services/family-history This collection contains one of the most extensive Canadian genealogy collections in the country. The site includes descriptions of the resources and how-to guides. Thompson's River Post Journal http://royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/exhibits/living-landscapes/thomp-ok/river-post/contents.html The 1841 - 1843 journal of the Thompson River Post of the Hudson's Bay Company, which was located at the confluence of the north and south branches of the Thompson River near the Secwepemc (Shuswap) village of Tk'emlul'pe'/ ( Kamloops). United Church of Canada Archives https://www.unitedchurcharchives.ca/ The Archives preserves the historical records of the United Church of Canada and its antecedent denominations. The records predate 1925, are searchable by pastoral charge, and generally include information about baptisms, burials and marriages.

AncestryLibrary https://www.ancestrylibrary.ca/ AncestryLibrary is premier genealogical resource containing 3,000 databases and billions of primary source documents. This genealogy treasure trove helps you find information to uncover your personal family history. AncestryLibrary is only available for use at TNRL branches.

Kamloops Newspaper Obituaries http://www.tnrl.ca/?p=/pages/admin/kdn_obits/search.php The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library has compiled a searchable database of obituaries published in local newspapers. To obtain the article, you will need to contact the appropriate Thompson-Nicola Regional Library, local museum, or newspaper office, or the British Columbia Archives. June 2001 – Present.

NewsHound http://arch.tnrl.ca This service gives you free access to a searchable digital archive of thousands of newspaper articles from Thompson-Nicola Region newspapers. The project currently has archived newspapers from Merritt, Clinton, and Sun Peaks and plans to expand to other interior newspapers.
