This collection of delicious, alcohol-free alternatives is a great reminder that you can have fun at your parties or just hanging out at home, but that skipping the alcohol is the best choice if you are the driver for the evening. MADD is working hard to eliminate drunk driving and prevent underage drinking. Together we can stop drunk driving and reduce the chance of alcohol getting to those under 21 years of age. Community Traffic Safety Team Program The Community Traffic Safety Team Program is a multi-disciplined federal, State, and local government-endorsed program developed to reduce the number of traffic crashes that occur on Florida roadways. The program was created in response to federal legislation (the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1990), which calls for local participation and solutions to traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities on local roadways. Our membership consists of professionals in four disciplines: Law Enforcement, Engineering, Emergency Services, and Education. We possess the resources and skills to directly impact the epidemic problems that Florida faces on our roadways. Fill an ice cold pitcher with ice, then fill ¾ full with fruit punch; top off with Sprite. Garnish with lemon, lime, and orange slices.

My name is Patricia Powell. I was blessed with three beautiful children - Anthony, Tiffany, and Nicholas. On September 16, 2007, while Tiffany and I were together delivering newspapers, our van was struck from behind by an aggressive drunk driver. Tiffany and I both were thrown from the van. Tiffany did not survive her injuries. She died in my arms in front of a little Spanish church that was on my paper route. There was no time to save her - she died immediately. Tiffany was 20 years old. The woman who hit us was coming from her third drug and alcohol rehab graduation. She decided to celebrate by getting drunk and doing cocaine; at 3:20 a.m. she struck the rear of our van at a speed of over 65 mph, as approximated by the State Troopers. The impact of being struck in the rear of the van was so great that our minivan was hurled into the air, turning over twice before hitting the ground. The compact sports car that hit us sustained very little damage and the driver walked away without injuries. It took three State Troopers to work the crash and six months to file formal charges against the other driver for DUI Manslaughter. It took a year after that to go through the judicial process to have the offender sent to prison. She was sentenced to 11

years in prison for DUI Manslaughter and 4 years probation when released. Tiffany Victoria Powell was my soul mate, my twin, my sister, my friend, but, most of all, she was my only daughter, and I miss her more every day. A loss like this for anyone is a pain I would not wish on anyone, ever. I have one blessing from this tragedy - I was there when she was born, and I was there when she died. On October 25, 2008, what I thought would be a day like any other, deputies arrived at my home in Ohio to tell me of the death of “Carol Barnett” in an automobile crash in Hernando County, Florida. I was confused for a moment, thinking “No, I’m alright….” It was then that I thought of Ashley, my daughter. I ran into the house and tried over and over to call her; I left her voicemails. I called my parents, but they told me they were fine. I prayed that Ashley would call back, but she didn’t … she would never call me again.
the other vehicle was charged with two counts of DUI Manslaughter. That case has not been set for trial yet. In my life, I have experienced a lot of pain, but none of it compared to the loss of my first child in August 2004. I thought I had suffered the worst tragedy a mother can, until I lost my second child, Ashley, in October 2008. It is unbelievable that I’ve lost two of my three children. And to think that Ashley’s death could have been avoided if only a young woman had not been driving drunk; it is not only haunting, but heart-breaking. Her actions have left my family broken and a huge hole in my heart.
I called the Medical Examiner’s office in Hernando County and begged the woman to tell me that she didn’t have my daughter’s body and that it was all a mistake. I told the woman that Ashley was beautiful, with dark curly hair, two eyebrow piercings, and a tattoo of a bird on her arm in memory of her older sister; the woman confirmed each. I couldn’t believe it - my second child to die.
Ashley was a beautiful young woman, known for her humor and uplifting spirit. She will be missed greatly by not only her family, but by her many friends. I hope by sharing this story others will urge everyone to think before drinking and driving - it could save another daughter or son.
We were told that Ashley had been in a car crash that day and had died on the scene at the young age of 20. She was in the back seat of her friend’s van; her roommate and boyfriend were in the front seat. A vehicle crossed over the center line and hit the van. My niece, Sarah Gleason, was tragically killed by a drunk driver on March 26, 2006. As long as I live, I will never forget the sound of my brother’s voice telling me that he had just received a phone call from the Florida Highway Patrol telling him that his daughter was dead.
her, and we wonder what her life would be like today. After four years of waiting for justice to be served, the man that killed Sarah and Joe was finally found guilty and is now serving the 35 years in prison that he deserves.
Sarah and her fiancé, Joseph, had both moved from our home in upstate New York to Florida because they both wanted to see sunshine every day. They were both 26. The evening of this tragic crash, Sarah and Joe had attended a festival. At the end of the night, they chose to call for a ride since they both had a couple of drinks at the festival. Unfortunately, the man who killed both of them did not make such a responsible decision.
I hope that by writing this letter it will open the eyes of others to see what damage drinking and driving can do to a family. Living each day with the loss of our loved ones is beyond difficult, but I also can’t imagine what it would feel like to have to live knowing I was the one that took the life of someone’s child, wife, mother, or sibling.
Sarah and Joe were walking down the street to meet their ride when they were run down and left to die. Joe died instantly, and Sarah died while being airlifted to an area hospital. People tell us that our pain will get easier as time goes on, but it has now been over four years and the pain has no where come close to being easier. We still wonder if Sarah knew how badly she was injured when she was hit. We live with the pictures we saw at the trial in our minds, pictures of Sarah’s flesh hanging from the bottom of the truck that hit

Designated drivers have saved nearly 50,000 lives and spared many more thousands of people from suffering injury from drunk driving. Each year, over 73 million Americans either serve as a designated driver or are driven home by one. A designated driver helps friends and family avoid embarrassment, keep their driver’s license, avoid fines, stay out of jail, and prevent senseless injury and death.

On June 10, 2006, my son, Raymond “AJ” Johns was taken from us by a 22-year old alcohol-impaired driver who made the very poor decision to drink and drive. The evening of the crash, AJ was out with his friends. They were on their way home, and the Yukon in which he was the front-seat passenger had just turned onto Nebraska Avenue in Palm Harbor. They were T-boned on the front passenger side with such force that the Yukon first spun and then flipped, and AJ was thrown 20 feet. He died at the scene at age 26. The amount of trauma that AJ’s body suffered during the crash was so extreme that it made identification difficult. He had to be identified by a scar on his left leg. Not only was his life taken, but his beautiful smile was gone also. The driver of the vehicle that AJ was riding in was a lifelong friend, and he almost lost his life as well. He survived with medical assistance at the scene and at Bayfront Medical Center. The driver of the other car walked away with a few scratches. I was notified by the Florida Highway Patrol and then began the terrible task of informing AJ’s brothers and the remainder of my family. The call to his married brother was especially difficult because he and his wife were going on an anniversary trip to celebrate one year of marriage. Now the date of his marriage is also the date of his brother’s death. AJ’s youngest brother is surviving very quietly; he does not speak about AJ being gone. They had just started to develop a close, dependable relationship.

The absence of AJ at his brother’s high school graduation was felt in the hearts of all. As a family, we are still trying to make some sense of this tragedy. AJ was a wonderful person, so full of life, and he could melt your heart with his smile. He loved people and he was loved by many. He was at the stage in his life that he knew exactly what he wanted to do, and that was to be a firefighter/ paramedic. He had already finished the fire academy and was EMT-certified. He was attending paramedic school and was ready to begin his career as a firefighter. AJ’s goal in life was to help others in their time of need, but instead he was the one receiving help. As a parent, I want to stress to everyone that lives can change in an instant. This type of tragic change is one of the most horrible ways for a family to have to adjust. Please always keep in mind that you need to let your loved ones know how much you care about them. Please help all of us whose lives have been affected by someone who has chosen to drink and drive … please think before you drink and get behind the wheel. On September 8, 2008, my daughter Jennifer called me to let me know that she and my four-year old granddaughter, Summer, were getting ready to leave. They were going to the beach for a few days and meeting a friend there to celebrate Jennifer’s 25th birthday, which was the next day. I told her to be sure to watch Summer in the water because there was a hurricane way out in the Gulf. The last thing Jennifer said to me was, “Don’t worry, Mom, I’ll call you tomorrow, I promise.” That never happened. Later, I was on my way home from work when my son called me saying the police were at the door and asking for me and wanted to know if Jennifer lived there. I was only a few blocks from home, and I pulled up behind them at my house. I asked if Jennifer and Summer were okay, and I started crying when the officer said to me, “Let’s go in the house.” I sat on the couch with my two sons on each side of me as the officer told me that, at approximately 2pm, Jennifer had been killed and Summer was in the hospital fighting for her life. The officer said they had been hit by a drunk driver who was three times over the legal limit and traveling in the wrong direction on the Crosstown Expressway when she hit Jennifer’s car head on. They had to use the jaws of life to remove Jennifer and Summer, who was in the back seat crushed up against her mother. I asked where Jennifer and Summer were; I wanted to see Jennifer and be able to say goodbye and tell her how much I loved her. The officers asked if Jennifer had any special markings so they could identify her. I told them she had a flower tattoo with Summer’s name over it on her leg.

The cause of Jennifer’s death was a rib through her heart. We never did get to see her or say our goodbyes. I just wanted to hold her one more time and tell her much I loved her.

Summer has had 14 surgeries, and more are expected. She had to learn to walk and talk again. She is still recovering two years later from a head wound that won’t heal. We’ve endured a lot of challenges with the head wound, and we work through them one day at a time.
When my husband got home, we went to Tampa General Hospital. Doctors met us in a room and told us that Summer was not in good shape; she was in a coma and they didn’t expect her to survive the night. We couldn’t even see her at that point as she was still being worked on in the Intensive Care Unit. Both legs and both arms were broken, and she had a fractured pelvis and a fractured skull. She was broken from head to toe. Later, my husband was allowed to go in briefly to identify her, but they told me it wouldn’t be a good idea for me to see her. The next morning they were still picking glass out of her body. My husband took a picture of her to help prepare me to see her before I went into her room.
Our family has been turned upside down, but it has never taken the good spirit out of Summer. She is always smiling and trying to make people laugh. She is my angel, and I love her so much! Summer is what keeps me going every day. On August 4, 2010, the woman that caused the crash, who is now 27, pled guilty. Her sentencing is set for October 27, 2010.
A week later, my family was in Chicago for Jennifer’s memorial service when the hospital notified me that they were going to be bringing Summer out of her induced coma. I made sure I was the first person she would see when she woke up; I took the next flight home and went straight to the hospital. When I saw her, she had so many wires and tubes hooked up to her, casts on both arms, and pins sticking out of her legs.
I went public with this story hoping that all this tragedy that my family has been through will help make a difference, hoping that I can touch people who may drink and drive and help end the tragedy of drunk driving. Tammy Rosian Jennifer’s Mother, Summer’s Grandmother

¼ cup whipping cream ½ cup milk 5 scoops vanilla ice cream ½ cup chopped pecan nuts ½ cup chocolate syrup 1 banana
Fill glass with ice and cranberry juice. Garnish with a lime and a maraschino cherry. Very pretty when served in a stemmed glass.
In a blender, mix whipping cream, milk, and ice cream. Pour into an ice cold glass. Top with chocolate syrup and banana slices.

Hot coffee Whipped cream Shaved chocolate
20 oz. frozen raspberry syrup 12 oz. frozen lemonade concentrate 46 oz. pineapple juice 64 oz. chilled 7-Up
Fill a mug with hot coffee. Top with a mound of whipped cream, and add shaved chocolate on top.
Place raspberries and lemonade into a blender; blend until smooth. Stir into a punch bowl (discard seeds). Stir in pineapple juice. Just before serving, add 7-Up.

4 oz. clam juice 2 oz. tomato juice Dash of ketchup ½ oz. lime juice Dash of Worcestershire Sauce Salt and pepper Top with stalk of celery
1 gal. milk 2 cups espresso ¼ cup hazelnut syrup ¼ cup vanilla syrup ½ gal. coffee ice cream Mix milk, espresso, and syrups together in large punch bowl. Add medium-size scoops of ice cream. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
Blend all ingredients. Pour into a chilled glass with ice. Sprinkle with celery salt.
Passion Fruit Iced Tea

1 oz. passion fruit syrup 1 oz. sugar syrup 1/3 shaker of premium Chinese black tea 1 scoop ice
½ fresh mango (peeled, diced, then pureed) 4 oz. coconut mix (piña colada mix) 1 oz. pineapple juice Ice
Mix all ingredients together and shake very well.
Combine all ingredients in a blender. Pour into a tall glass. Garnish with two cubes of fresh mango on a sword and a sprig of mint.

2 oz. regular or decaf espresso ¾ oz. almond cocktail syrup (non-alcoholic) 1/3 oz. vanilla cocktail syrup (non-alcoholic) 1 small scoop vanilla ice cream 2 oz. cold milk Cinnamon powder
4 oz. Sprite 4 oz. Finest Choice Strawberry Daiquiri Mix 4 oz. Finest Choice Piña Colada Ice 2 blender cups Blend 2 oz. Sprite, strawberry mix, and ice. Separately, blend 2 oz. Sprite, piña colada mix, and ice. Layer one inch of strawberry mixture in glass. Add a one inch layer of piña colada mixture. Continue alternating layers to top of glass. Top with whipped cream and a cherry.
Blend ingredients until smooth. Top with cinnamon powder.
Juice Delight

Combine juices in a large cocktail glass with ice.

It is often said that out of the darkest times come some of the most positive realizations. That could be said of the nonprofit Driving Sober to Save a Life. The organization started in 2007, after Chris Marcone, 24, drove drunk and struck and killed a 13-year-old girl named Shelby. The car crash and the death of Shelby shattered Chris’s life. Not only was he sentenced to 13 years in prison (one year for each year of Shelby’s life), but he was overwhelmed with guilt, remorse and depression. His father, Barry Marcone, was also experiencing guilt and pain over his son and the car crash. Although Barry certainly never condoned Chris’s choices behind the wheel, he was a parent, and as such, felt the intensity of his son’s pain as well as the pain of Shelby’s family. It was so intense that Barry spent many late nights questioning what he did as a parent that could have contributed to the crash. While Barry finally realized that it was his son, not he, who made the bad choice that caused the crash, he felt compelled to try and do something to help other young drivers make better choices than his son made. He knew he had to share his and his son’s story and impress upon others how dangerous it is to drink alcohol and drive. Barry formed Driving Sober to Save a Life. Now in its third year, the organization seeks to reach teen drivers and teach them about the consequences of drinking and driving. Barry has traveled all over the United States presenting his story and sharing with teen drivers and their parents. The Meagan Napier Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the memory of Meagan Napier and her friend Lisa Jo Dickson who were killed by drunk driver Eric Smallridge on May 11, 2002. This organization was formed to raise awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and to promote forgiveness and healing. The Napiers, the Dicksons, and the Smallridges believe it is extremely important to educate everyone about the horrible consequences of drinking and driving. Their lives were taken in a senseless car crash that could have been avoided. One decision, one moment in time, and many lives were irreversibly changed! Renee Napier, Meagan’s mom, has made it her mission in life to share this story with as many people as possible. She is passionate about saving lives! Since March 29, 2004 she has presented this story to thousands upon thousands of people, young and old. In her presentation she tells the story, talks about the healing power of forgiveness, shows videos that feature Eric’s powerful message from prison, and concludes with a slide show featuring Meagan and Lisa. Afterwards, the audience is invited to go outside and take an up close look at Lisa’s mangled car... the car in which she and Meagan died.
