Foreword Hello... Welcome to The Almanack. We’re delighted to be right here in the heart of Kenilworth, where we’ve created a fantastic pub. The Almanack serves top-notch food throughout the day from an open kitchen. Our menu focuses on the best seasonal ingredients, British wherever possible, freshly cooked by our senior head chef Corin Earland and his team. Step inside The Almanack and we guarantee you’ll be completely bowled over. We have taken a clean modern space and filled it with a huge island bar, dividing a relaxed and comfortable bar area from a stylish eatery. The use of warm brick and natural timber, together with a fabulous selection of really comfortable restored teak and rosewood furniture from the 1960’s gives the pub a character all its own. It’s the place to see and be seen in town. In setting up The Almanack, the team from Peach has taken everything it has learned about running great hospitable pubs over the last eight years and applied it to a brand new building. We want you to feel just as much at home in our new pub as in any of our more traditional ones – our house is very definitely your place – the welcome is warm and the style relaxed. We’re open every day from 8am for coffee and breakfast, serving hot food and drinks right throughout the day, every day. Come in and see us soon.

Part 1: The Almanack A modern British Gastropub Introducing The Almanack, Kenilworth The Almanack, right in the heart of Kenilworth, is a haven for fantastic food and drink, stylishly served in stunning surroundings. It’s the perfect place to eat, drink, relax and chill out with friends and family. Inspired by the Kinks’ song ‘Autumn Almanac’, The Almanack also takes its name from the old English word ‘almanack’, which Dr Johnson defined in his dictionary as: “a calendar; a book in which the revolutions of the seasons, with the return of feasts and fasts, is noted for the ensuing year.” We have been committed to serving seasonal food in our pubs for several years now, because it enables us to use ingredients at their best and cheapest and minimise our carbon footprint – so the name really seemed to fit. That’s why, from the food on the menu to the whole look and feel of the smart eatery, everything is designed to be fresh and natural and in tune with the seasons. Join us any time of day and on the menu you’ll find a great choice of delicious daily specials alongside a selection of seasonally-inspired dishes freshly prepared in The Almanack’s stunning open kitchen. Senior head chef Corin Earland and his team focus on the best, seasonal ingredients, British and locally sourced wherever they can, to create a full à la carte and through the day menu.
5 One of our signature dishes is a top quality roast of the day – served immediately if you need it fast – with the day’s special vegetable dish. Or enjoy a delicious Almanack deli board piled with cheese, charcuterie, fish or a mix of everything, served with plenty of bread and chutney. Pull up a stool at the bar to dine casually or sip a glass of perfectly chilled wine or champagne from The Almanack’s small but carefully chosen list. There’s a selection of whites, rosés, reds and bubbly to be had by the glass or carafe, as well as some outstanding speciality beers, including award-winning real ale brewed down the road in Stratford-Upon-Avon as well as fresh juices, pressés and cordials. If the mood takes you, you can sink into one of the comfy chairs or sofas dotted around the chic interior and just watch the world go by over a cappuccino, an invigorating herbal tea or a dreamy hot chocolate with marshmallows. The Almanack’s the perfect place for a quick coffee with friends and for informal meetings for work – help yourself to our free WiFi if you’re one of that growing band of digital Bedouins who work from cafés on laptops!
6 Finally, sit back and let our brilliant team take care of you. That team is led by Jeremy Kynaston, a familiar face to many in the West Midlands, having run the award-winning Rose & Crown in Warwick for the last two years. Jeremy’s reputation for creating great places to eat, drink and relax is known throughout the area and he and his team work hard to ensure the food, the drinks and the welcome are the best they possibly can be. He says: “The Almanack’s a fabulous place to enjoy good food and drink and just relax with your friends and family, whether you’re here for a quiet drink, an unhurried lunch or dinner to celebrate a special occasion. We’ve created a stylish gastropub right here in the heart of town – we really feel Kenilworth deserves a great place to eat and drink and we like to think that place is ours. “We’ve got an award-winning team in the kitchen, as well as behind the bar and in the eatery, whose talents are very much in evidence. We want The Almanack to be known for exceptional food – restaurant quality ingredients perfectly cooked and served and all at pub prices – but also for giving people the kind of place they come to consider a home from home. Ensuring everyone gets a warm welcome and faultless service whenever they visit is our number one goal. “We feel it’s a winning combination. The Almanack not only looks completely different, it also is completely different. Fresh, seasonal cooking, an inspired choice of refreshments and a stunning place to enjoy them bring a real breath of fresh air to the food and drink scene here in Kenilworth. “The Almanack really is the place to see and be seen. We look forward to seeing you here soon.” The Almanack is open for breakfast from 8am and serves freshly cooked food throughout the day, every day of the week. It’s at Abbey End North, Kenilworth, CV8 1QJ Tel: 01926 35 36 37 Email: hello@thealmanack-kenilworth.co.uk Web: www.thealmanack-kenilworth.co.uk
Part 2: Food & Drink At The Almanack Eat & Drink in Style at The Almanack Fine food – fresh, seasonal and natural On your plate at The Almanack you will find the best, freshest seasonal food freshly cooked by senior head chef Corin Earland and his team in the large open-plan kitchen. The emphasis is on outstanding quality and seasonal ingredients simply cooked with minimum fuss and maximum flavour. Only the best quality meat and fish – humanely reared and sustainably caught – from ethical suppliers we know and trust, the freshest seasonal produce and the tastiest ingredients from small, artisan producers find their way onto the menu. All the food is freshly cooked every day by The Almanack chefs. Their style is a mix of pub classics and more sophisticated dishes, with a few retro classics such as classic cheese fondue or arctic roll, to chime with the character of the décor. And the good news is you can eat what you like, where you like in The Almanack’s smart but relaxed interior; perch on a stool at the bar and watch the world go by, chat with friends or make your own party in one of our glamorous booths with its vintage rosewood table.
Brilliant breakfasts Get the day off to the best possible start by dropping in to The Almanack for breakfast or, if you’re in a hurry, get it to go. A Jimmy Butlers free-range bacon bap or Almanack hash and poached eggs will see you through the morning, or, if you fancy something lighter, try the stewed seasonal fruit topped with natural yogurt and granola. Wash it down with a delicious cinnamon and caramel latte or maple maracca nut shake.
7
8 Great lunches Lunch is served from 12 noon to 2.30pm and there’s plenty to choose from, with small and large portions depending on how hungry you are. There’s always home-made soup, a seasonal risotto and Caesar Salad on the menu as well as the Roast of the Day and seasonal dishes like pigeon, pomegranate and chestnut salad and herb pancakes with spinach and mushroom stuffing and Kirsch cream sauce, as well as daily changing specials. There’s even a classic cheese fondue with crudités and country bread to share! Delicious deli boards Deli boards are an Almanack signature. They come in classic combinations of fresh, regional British cheeses, outstanding charcuterie and fish as well as a ‘favourites’ board piled with cheese, ham, tomatoes, fish goujons and tartare sauce. Each comes with a generous chunk of rustic bread and chutney. A la Carte There’s a common thread running through our à la carte dishes; they’re all fresh, seasonal and natural. They use the best quality meat, fish and fresh produce, locally sourced wherever possible, and expertly prepared by the chefs. All our chicken and eggs are free-range, and so is our pork. Our steak is 28 day dry-aged Aberdeenshire beef from Catering Butcher of The Year, Aubrey Allen, who has been supplying many of the UK’s leading restaurants from just up the road in Coventry for the last seventy five years. The Almanack serves traditional pub classics as well as contemporary dishes. On the menu you will find pan-fried Welsh seabass with sautéed leeks, and artichokes, free-range duck breast, balsamic roast figs, Parmentier potatoes and squash purée and 28 day dry-aged Aberdeenshire côte de boeuf on a board for two to share, home-cut chips and grill garnish.
9 Roast of the Day The Almanack does a superb roast of the day, every day of the week, not just Sunday. Succulent joints of meat perfectly roasted and served with the special vegetable dish of the day. Choose from slow-roasted Cornish lamb on a Monday or free-range roast leg of pork on a Wednesday; end the week with free-range gammon and make your Sunday with a fantastic Almanack Sunday roast and traditional trimmings on a sharing board. Desserts The Almanack does a wicked selection of desserts, including sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream, warm apple tart with clotted cream and raspberry fool. Delicious! Drinks at The Almanack Whether you pop in for a quick coffee during the day, a drink after work with colleagues or want to savour a glass or two of fine wine over dinner, The Almanack has it all. There’s an extensive drinks menu with everything from organic pressés and wines by the glass, to freshly squeezed juices, cocktails inspired by the season and frothy milkshakes with real fruit purée. Fruity organic pressés made with slightly sparkling Belvoir spring water are light and perfectly refreshing; The Almanack also serves organic fruit cordials made with 100% natural ingredients. We’ll happily make you a delectable cinnamon and caramel latte or a creamy hot chocolate laced with marshmallows to linger over or take with you. All the coffee we serve is hand-roasted weekly by Union Hand-Roasted, voted the number one ethical coffee company in 2007.
10 We only have a short wine list but it’s big on quality, variety and value. We’re passionate about trying new and adventurous wines at very keen prices and have sought out some great ones for you to try. Two of our particular favourites are available on draught by the glass or carafe to save on the transportation and disposal of bottles and cut down on our carbon footprint. We also serve a selection of premium speciality beers including Pure UBU and Pure Gold, two of the distinctive, all-natural brews created right on our doorstep by Warwickshire’s Purity Brewery. We’ve been drinking them for a while now and are delighted that their beers recently won ‘Champion Beer of Warwickshire’ and ‘Best Bitter’ at the Birmingham Beer Festival. Our bar is stocked with an impressive range of exceptional spirits including Beefeater gin and Absolut vodka. It’s here we mix our fantastic, seasonally inspired cocktails – Pimm’s in the summer, a champagne cocktail or mulled wine in the winter, Bloody Mary any time.
In fact, the huge Almanack bar is a talking point in itself. The first thing you encounter when you enter the pub, its gently curved, warm red brick façade creates a natural focal point and our first opportunity to bid you a warm welcome and offer you a drink. Feel free to prop up the bar, or perch on a stool and have a snack with your drink, or sink into one of our super-comfortable quirky retro armchairs. You may never want to get up again! Come in for a drink anytime. The Almanack is open from 8am to midnight and has free WiFi throughout. Who’s Who at The Almanack Come and meet the team. Jeremy Kynaston I've been on the West Midlands hospitality scene for over a decade now, with some great experience under my belt, including once being the youngest licensee in Birmingham. I'm from The Rose & Crown in Warwick, loved by all for its fantastic food, amazing atmosphere and warm welcome. Now, I've opened a place of my own and all the signs are it's turning out to be just what Kenilworth needs - a brilliant spot for enjoying the best seasonal food in stunning surroundings.
Jeremy Jordan Marr, General Manager My fascination with food started early - I was always in the kitchen at home and spent my summer holidays working as a pizza chef. My first taste of great hospitality came from le Petit Blanc in Oxford, both in and out of the kitchen, before moving to their flagship brasserie in Birmingham. Then I joined Peach and worked in a couple of their other great pubs before landing at The Almanack. One day, I'll be back in the kitchen but now, I'm loving being here.
Jordan Corin Earland, Senior Head Chef I came to Kenilworth via Stratford and Oxford, where I put The One Elm and The Fishes firmly on the culinary scene and helped them win some great awards as well as the hearts and minds of the locals. When I was head chef of The Fishes we got into The Michelin Pub Guide, too. I'm a phenomenally hard worker and like to think my creativity and flair in the kitchen are taking The Almanack's food from good to better.

Lee Cash We set up Peach in 2002 and our first site, The Rose & Crown in Warwick soon became the Best Pub in Britain. I got my passion for good food young - my mum always got something good on the table even though cash was in short supply then. I went to catering college but the best bit was working with Brian Turner in Walton Street and Robin Shepherd at the Bath Spa Hotel, where I really learned about hosting and fine food. Here my vision was born, and after a spell working with Raymond Blanc, I decided to start Peach. The Almanack is our tenth pub and I know it's been warmly welcomed by the people of Kenilworth.
Lee Hamish Stoddart I'm the management all-rounder - I've done everything from logistics and finance to sales and marketing. I dabbled in corporate finance before leaving the city to work for the family firm as an operator - we owned food distributor Cearns and Brown. When we sold the business to Brake Brothers, I began to work with other entrepreneurs before deciding to start a restaurant business of my own. Lee and I got together and Peach was born. The Almanack is a really exciting departure for us - the first place we've built from scratch and we've worked hard to give it that local pub feel in a brand new environment.
Hamish Jo Eames I've been involved in Peach since the early days, when one of my first jobs was to choose the wine list for our first pub, The Rose & Crown and I'm still responsible for our wine offer. I also design the pub interiors and manage Peach's building projects, calling on a broad hinterland of knowledge about architecture and history to ensure each keeps its own character. I always try to let the building speak for itself, creating an interior that suits its age and temperament and lets all the quirks and interesting features shine through.

Acknowledgements The Almanack was created & realised by Peach, an award-winning group of pubs across the West Midlands and Central England, serving great food and drink in relaxed, stylish surroundings. Peach – what we do We tend to take run-down, unloved pubs and turn them into award-winning places where you can relax and enjoy restaurant quality food and drink at pub prices. The Almanack is our first pub in a new-build site, and we have put everything we’ve learnt in the last eight years about running great gastropubs to use there. We’re all about ethical sourcing, caring for the environment, supporting local enterprise, rewarding our people and having fun while we work. We’re not about creating the biggest pub chain in the world – we’re more interested in perfection on a small scale. Regulars love their Peach pub because it has its own character and isn’t part of a fake plastic pub chain. We’ve got great teams of people working in our pubs and we work hard to look after them. We think that happy teams make for happy customers; if we’re all working well together, learning and sharing our success, great service follows and the customer will have a great experience.
17 It’s an approach that’s definitely working. Our pub The Rose & Crown in Warwick was twice named in the UK’s top ten pubs in the last five years and voted best pub in the land in 2004. We also have The One Elm in Stratford-Upon-Avon, which regularly gets rave reviews and only recently was fêted by the Leamington Spa Times for its ‘five star fayre’. We’ve picked up a clutch of awards for our food, our service and for being a great place to work this year; the MA Best Food Offer, the National Customer Service Awards and the Best Places to Work in Hospitality Awards are all sitting on our sideboard! The Almanack is the tenth pub we’ve opened and like all the others, it’s got fantastic food, wine and beer and great service to match. It’s a bit like a home from home, only better. Come and visit our pubs soon www.peachpubs.com
