Another school year is coming to an end, and another set of young people are heading towards a change of nursery/school/college/apprenticeship/further education/employment. Leaving the place that they will have hopefully been very happy for many years can be a sad time for both children and their parents (I remember children’s and parent’s tears during and after the year 6 leavers services well) but it is also a positive time when we can look forward to what is to come and the new opportunities available. My eldest has just finished school and we now have the wait for the A level results that will determine where he ends up next; he is very philosophical about it – whatever will be, will be! Whatever change you or your loved ones may be facing over the coming months, I hope it will be change for the better.

Arts Review S & what’s going on - July 2016

Sarah Villeneau S Saturday d 9 July. l Have you ever wanted to take part in the making of an artwork? And have you ever wanted to get completely naked with thousands of other people? The artist Spence Tunick is going to be working with a throng of people who want to get their kit off together in Hull this month. The Ferens Art Gallery are organising the event – sorry – it’s being called a ‘site-specific-commission’. Actually you won’t be completely naked, Tunick is going to have the participants painted in body paint to reference the colours of the sea found in the Ferens Gallery seascape -paintings. Imagine the logistics of this exercise! It’s quite mind-boggling…all that painting up and then do they send you home still the blue-green of the deep sea? Tunick’s work is great! I know people who have been part of these photoshoots. On a warm day it could be a wonderful experience. If you fancy it visit www.hull2017. co.uk/seaofhull (see it’s all part of Hull city of culture) Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery Wed to Fri 10.00 – 16.30, Sat & Sun 10.30 – 4.15 Exhibition: until 3rd July: Janet Waring: ‘Regenerative’. 16th July – 11th September Doncaster Art Club. Hello from Mayflower Sanctuary, Apparently the weather there is really hot at the moment. Just when I have come on holiday to find the sun it appears in England. But all the Staff and volunteers are keeping the animals in their care cool and will be making sure they are not overheating g on hot summer days. y

Gri We recently arranged our Annual Dog Walk in Bawtry Forest which was wonderful. It was really special to see the dogs that had been adopted taking their new owners for a walk! It was especially heart-warming to see Gri, a dog rescued from Romania. When he arrived he was very sad and depressed. We had been waiting for the right people to adopt him for quite some time. Eventually he did find his new loving home and it was a very special moment for us all to see him looking happy and confident. confident Our fundraising is continuing with M&S, Wheatley Hall Road. We will be bag-packing on 2nd July and will be collecting outside the store on 10th July. Please come along and say hello hello. We are so grateful to M&S together with other supporters, Direct Line (who have recently raised £800 on a charity day for us) Rail Track, Sainsburys, Morrisons and all local businesses that help in any way they can. Without this support we would not be in a position to carry on with our work. work

Finding a forever home weekly basis, but we must look forward and be positive. We will always y be there to p pick up p the p pieces. As I said at the start of the write up, I am on holiday at the moment in a very small working village in Greece. I have been coming here for many years. However about 5 years ago the cat population escalated to such a degree it was totally out of control. There was no charity/rescue centre available apart from one English lady who did her best. I discussed the situation with the Mayflower Manager and we talked about how the village could start raising funds for a Neuter Programme. To cut along story short, lots of both English and Greek like-minded people came together, and with a very sympathetic Vet, their Charity was formed. After 5 years they now have a large number of people helping in any way they can, raising money towards neuter programmes and taking care of any sick, injured or abandoned animals. Also raising awareness which is most important. We are so proud to have been a very small part of this project. project Many countries are now realising that animal welfare is important. Most shops, restaurants and tavernas in the villages and towns now have collecting boxes so while on your holidays (abroad or in the UK) a donation no matter how small can make such a difference. difference If you are looking for that special pet to be part of your life, please come along and speak to us. We look forward to seeing g yyou soon. Best Wishes

Name: Charley Sex: Female Date into care: FEB 2016 Age: 4 years Good with dogs: ?? Good with cats: Some Good with children: Yes Charley arrived at Mayflower with her buddy, Missy, due to a bereavement in the family. Their owner felt that she was unable to cope so asked for them to come into our care. Charley is the more timid of the pair but is a fussy-puss once she gets to know you. All she needs is a little time and patience. Her new owner/s must realise that, as a semilonghaired cat, Charley will need to be brushed at least weekly to keep her beautiful coat in tip-top condition. She quite likes it though so it shouldn’t be a problem. A home with Missy would be perfect but not essential.

My name is Sooty and I came into Mayflower’s care after my owner died. There was nobody in the family who could take care of me. I missed my Mum very much at first but now that I’ve settled things aren’t so bad. I try to make friends with the other cats but I’m told that my social skills need a little finetuning as I can be a little overpowering at times. I would be better with a female companion I’m just a fun-loving guy who deserves a 2nd chance. Could I come home with you?

Why should I make a Will? Everybody with any form of asset however insignificant it may seem should have a Will professionally prepared. Often people think ‘I don’t have anything to leave’ or ‘I’m too young to make a Will’ or ‘I’ll do it another day’. Unfortunately death is one thing that we cannot predict. Dying without a Will can have lengthy and potentially expensive consequences for your family and loved ones during what is already a very difficult time. It could also mean that the people who you want to inherit your assets or who you think will inherit your assets actually do not. You should make a Will if any of the following apply to you; • You are cohabiting with your partner particularly if the property is not owned jointly by you and your partner. • You have children (particularly if they are under 18). • You have family members from whom you are estranged. • You are separated but not yet divorced. • You want to make provision for persons other than your spouse. • You have stepchildren who you class as your own. • You are worried about care fees. The above are just some of the reasons why you should make a Will there are many many more! Our fees for preparing a Will are fixed we don’t add on hidden extras and for the month of July 2016 only with this advert we will prepare your Wills at the following discounted rates; • Single Wills – only £ 85 plus VAT (£102.00) • Mirror Wills – only £125 plus VAT (£150.00) • Property Trust Wills – only £225 plus VAT & £3 Disbursements (£253.00) To arrange your appointment to make a Will please telephone Katy Delaney at The Byrne Practice Solicitors on 01302 711211 or email katy.delaney@tbplaw.co.uk

A Steering Group to make the Plan was established, which has wide representation from the town. The Steering Group has been working to identify what it is about Bawtry that its residents value most highly, and what concerns them most. 0DMRU VRXUFHV RI LQIRUPDWLRQ KDYH EHHQ the Bawtry Residents’ Group, Bawtry Retail Association, the Town Council, and a survey questionnaire delivered to all the households and businesses in Bawtry. A picture of the town had emerged, and this was presented at a consultation exhibition in February at the Crown Hotel, and the display placed in the Library during April. The exhibition was very well attended, and a good level of feedback has been received so far, but the development of the Neighbourhood Plan is a continuous consultation exercise – so please continue to have your say to help us shape the future of your home town. Many residents complain of nuisance parking, in residential streets, on pavements, and so on. Most residents describe Bawtry as a pretty market town – but also one which is becoming very tired. They refer to unsafe and uneven pavements, poorly maintained verges, litter, and dog mess in the play areas. Size Ornaments should be an appropriate size for the setting. Rules are there to be broken of course and whatever your garden type or size the ornament you choose should be special to you. Update from Councillor

Rachael Blake It’s been a couple of months since I havee had my Bawtry update for you to read – last moonth I did write it but for various reasons wasn’t inncluded which made me realise how useful and a greatt source of information Bawtry Today is. Not just for me to let residents know what is happening, but also for me as a Councillor to read about everything else that is happening so I can go along to it. Thank you to Paula for providing me with a page every month. New bus service for Austerfield and Bawtry We now have a twice weekly bus service from Austerfield to Doncaster (which connects with Bawtry) on Mondays and Wednesdays. Whilst this is very welcome, I had a long discussion with Austerfield Parish Council at their May meeting, the timings aren’t ideal and the implications for concessionary passes, so I would be really interested to hear your views on this – I will be at the next Austerfield Parish Council meeting so please do pop along for a chat or contact me. Tour de Yorkshire After the hugely successful event which showcased the many community groups and venues that we have in Bawtry and Austerfield, the groups involved are going to carry on meeting and are looking to have an event to celebrate our heritage. To discuss this further, we are having a cheese and wine thank you to all the volunteers that helped with Tour de Yorkshire and DMBC’s Cultural Officer is attending to talk about Doncaster’s plans for culture and heritage. If you would like to be involved in planning our next event, please come along to the event on 28 June at 6.30pm at Bawtry Library. BARRS Community Sports Dayy – Thank you to everyone involved with BARRS who organised another great Sports Day. It was great to see so many children taking part in the races and adults taking part in the football tournament and there were some great stalls, traditional and not so traditional with egg rolling into the toilet – a great way to highlight how what we take for granted isn’t the same for everyone in the world. Hopefully lots of money was raised to go towards the sports pavilion and in next month’s update there will hopefully be some more news about this. Grass Cutting. During the last few months DMBC have introduced new vehicles and equipment and 46 BAWTRY TODAY

DMBC Councillor

restructured the whole of the workforce. New staff have been recruited and training on new equipment provided to staff. This has meant that the teams are behind with their cutting and maintenance. I share residents’ concerns about the standard of grass cutting and areas that appear to have been left and will be out again with the street scene team highlighting residents’ concerns. Flooding Issues – It is taking a long time to sort out a number of flooding issues – particularly on Station Road outside the Doctor’s Surgery. I have had conversations with the drainage team and until the problems are resolved, wherever there is surface water, they are happy to send out a vehicle to get rid of the surface water. If you have any problems with surface water please contact DMBC on 736000. Central Heating. Due to changes in Government legislation, there are more people now eligible for grants to have central heating installed. The criteria has been extended to include; households with an income less than £20,000 (total gross household income); with an existing solid fuel central heating system with 4 radiators or less; with an existing warm air central heating system. The deadline for applying is August and those qualifying will receive full gas central heating free of charge. If you are interested please contact 736000 and ask for the Energy Team. My surgeries – I will be at the June Austerfield Parish Council meeting and the Coffee Morning on 8 July at Bawtry Community Library. Please don’t wait for my surgery though – please get in touch anytime on the different ways below. Tel: 07976896563/01302 710251: Twitter @CllrRachaelB: Email: Rachael.blake@doncaster.gov.uk As always I am limited by space to include everything I am doing, so please contact me if you want any updates on anything I haven’t included or please do let me know about areas or issues that you feel need improving. Kind regards

Community Mission Mi i P Parish i hC Councilil - JJuly l 2016 Chairman’s Annual Report – 2015/2016 This is my fifth Annual Report as Chairman and at last year’s meeting Cllr Woolliams was again unanimously elected as Vice Chairman. It has been another exceptionally busy yeear and the Parish Council has had d to deal with some very complex issues. Thanks to the efforts of Jayne Watson our website is now live and gives all the information on Parish Council issues. However, please continue to visit the Misson Hub as it is the place to find out about village events, news items, history, live music and entertainment and much more besides. Economic Health The Council reviewed the budget forecasts for 2016/17 and due to the ongoing austerity measures, which particularly impact on rural areas, Members reluctantly voted to approve an increase of the Misson Precept requirement of £10,850. Environment 1. Tunnel Tech – We are working with BDC and Tunnel Tech to further reduce the odour emissions from TTN. They have now submitted a planning application which we all hope will put an end to the pollution and distress residents have endured for so many years. The Parish Council and our BDC elected member Annette Simpson have requested that the application goes to the full Planning Committee where we shall also ask for the 58 BAWTRY TODAY

The T TC T C have v worked exceptionally hard over the years and without their input I do not believe we would have reached the present position. I would like to thank them for everything they have done and continue to do. However, residents should continue to report any unacceptable odours as it is still vitally important that there is an ongoing record of emissions so that we can continue to hold TTN to account.

Wildlife/Heritage Projects – Parish Council representatives have attended h tt d d Steering St i Group G Meetings for the restoration of the Newington Quarry Site. Hansons are working closely with Notts Wildlife Trust, English Nature, RSPB and the Environment Agency and have restored an extensive area into an important wetland grazing and wildlife asset. This exciting work will be an ongoing project for the whole of the quarry site and will extend into the SSSI. It will also connect with other important wetlands along this section of the River Idle. Following research and consultation with residents the new pictorial village signs have been manufactured and when we receive delivery of the new oak posts they will be installed. Likewise a Heritage walk around the village and the surrounding parish has been written and is currently at the printers. A lectern is to be installed on the village green depicting the bridleways and footpaths in the parish. I would like to thank Julie Watkins for all the hard work she has devoted to both the above projects and also a big thankyou to Sheelagh Handy who has spent a great deal of time writing the text, organising the printing and manufacture of the lecterns. Also, I would like to thank Sue Scott for achieving the grant in the first place from Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund and for her personal contribution to the project.

Sue Scott is retiring as Parish Clerk and I would like to thank her for all her hard work, insight, advice and knowledge which has contributed so much to the smooth running of the Parish Council over the years. John Holmes is also retiring and I would like to thank him for his support over the past year. However, we now have a new Parish Clerk and I would like to welcome Sarah Youngman to the village and I’m sure she will have everyone’s support. I have already mentioned individuals in the body of this report but in addition I would like to thank Annette Simpson our local Cllr and Liz Yates our County Cllr for their advice and efforts and grants which supported the Pensioners Christmas lunch, pictoral verges and, together with a donation from Mr Martin Rowley, the Christmas lights! Finally I want to thank the residents of the village and members of the Community Association for arranging all of the activities and initiatives which make this village special. Last but not least I need to mention those residents who turn up to Parish Council Meetings and alert us to matters that need attention and which might otherwise be missed.
